This is probably the best all female metal band I've seen. Might even be the best Japanese band I've seen, period. BAND-MAID with their hit song Thrill is being reacted to by yours truly, Fables. It is also Band-Maid's very first video on their channel. I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

This is BAND-MAID’s first MV, which saved them from getting disbanded by the management, and went viral world wide 🕊️
This song was actually a B-side song to their first single “Love, Passion, Matador”.

It's not their most popular, just the oldest. In fact had it not gone viral the label was going to fire the musicians and turn the two singers into DANCE-MAID. Miku and Saiki both cried saying, "We didn't come to Tokyo for this". Fortunately for them, and all of us, they took this song, which was the B-Side from their single, and made this Music Video for it, and the rest is history! Miku actually worked in a Maid Cafe, but quit after winning an Idol Contest. She did that for a year, but didn't want continue the "Idol Thing". She wanted to form a Hard Rock Band contrasting that sound with the "Maid Look". She found Kanami through her online guitar videos and through her got Akane and then MISA who went to the Tokyo School of Music together. Saiki worked for the same agency so they didn't have far to look to find her. BabyMetal was a Label vehicle for SuMetal, and built around her. They can't really compare to BAND-MAID. They have many influences, like Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Smashing Pumpkin, Pixies, Maximum The Hormone and Sheena Ringo. I'll leave you to discover who's which. But bo, it's not LIVE. However, LIVE is where they shine, and in most cases with few exceptions, the Official LIVE Video is usually the definitive version of the songs.

Saiki sings, “I turn my earphones up. Nothing can beat the ecstasy of living with this Thrill.” And Miku sings, “A pigeon traces an arc in the shrunken sky.” No matter what song you're listening to, with Band-Maid the surprises and thrills ain't never gone. 🤘😉 Thx, Fab!

A thing about the maid outfits, Fab: as Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids.
Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working, Po! Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. Band-Maid is considered by many of their fans and Maidiacs to be the best hard rock band in the world - maid outfits and all!

NIce reaction - BTW - Miku (backup singer/singer/guitarist/lyricist/Band Founder) in this video is "just holding" the guitar as at this time she did not really know how to play the guitar. Today, she has acquired the skills and is starting to do solos on her own....of course having Kanami as a teacher really helped. Kanami (main music composer) actually wrote several songs as guitar lessons for Miku to learn how to play!....Thanks - Peace & Respect from Montreal

Straight-forward rock that not only showed the band their way forward, but also saved them.
You see, the band only found out later that if this video didn't succeed, their management was going to take the singers and try to make "Dance Maid" a two-member dancing group. When they finally learned this they cried. Luckily this video happened to be posted on a Facebook page and the video happened to go viral (which is why it's by far their most viewed video). And now we have the best rock band of the 21st century.
At this point Miku (rhythm guitarist, secondary vocalist, lyricist, band's founder) was just starting to learn guitar. In the years since she has become an accomplished rhythm guitarist.
I recommend not having subtitles on. It wouldn't be a problem for this song, but with the music they've been making over the past several years it is difficult enough to take it all in without trying to read while doing it. You will absolutely miss things in the music. Your task is even more difficult than it is for us regular listeners because you are making a video at the same time. Also, there are some awkard moments in many of the translations that can take you out of the song. This is a not a problem with the lyrics (their lyrics are highly regarded among native Japanese speakers); rather it is because of the difficulty translating between Japanese and English.

@@thefablesfolly Pity those of us who have gone down the pigeon-hole of Kobato's lyrics then. It's a little lyrical universe - fairly stark, pretty sad, quite beautiful - down there. Few years ago Japanese school orchestras (K-On's, it'sa thing) would get into costume as Band-Maid tribute bands, and Kobato got a little upset, because she didn't think school children should be singing about the kind of sad stuff she puts into her lyrics. (Alone - about being stuck in a toxic relationship. Puzzle - being "the other woman", and rejected. Anemone - a goodbye to someone close but deceased. I Can't Live Without You - effectively: "Love me, and let the world burn!")

MISA (The bassist) has a trick where she flips the pick and tucks it under her finger to go from picking to slapping. Kanami (lead guitarists/primary composer/riff master) is a Santana fan. The Warning is in your future too.

Funny you mention driving music, because I made a playlist of their songs specifically for cranking up while driving.

Kanami (lead guitar) has referenced Santana, Steve Vai, EVH as influences. MISA (bass player) The Police and Smashing Pumpkins. Akane (drummer) got into drumming b/c of Maximum the Hormones female drummer, Nao.

@@thefablesfolly When you start getting further along, you will start hearing other familiar leads guitar influences for Mincho (Kanami's nickname) Satriani, Angus Young, Nickelback, Slash, Eddie with the tapping and fast trim picking...Akane really reminds me of Stewart Copeland.

@@bandmaidfanATL MISA immediately reminded me of James Jamerson, who also created these melodic runs in the higher registers during the Motown period. And of course to John Entwistle, who constantly moved up and down the frets and, together with Keith Moon, created the solid basis for the sound. For me, MISA and Akane are in the league of great rhythm sections.

Watch the MV of INFLUENCER. You'll see a lot of blended musical ideas and styles in one song. Best rock band on the planet. This is the video that saved the band's contract, the label was talking about dropping them but Band Maid insisted on this one instead of the label's choice. The rest is history. They have a video with two cars and lots of flames in the MV of WARNING, I'll bet you'd like that one.

The japanese rock scene is stacked.
Band Maid are imo the best and they have Roger doing work on TH-cam spreading the message so they get a ton of traction from the Maidiacs invading every reactor he gets to listen to anything by the band.
But they aren't the only only great japanese band. You've abviously heard babymetal, but you can add in Aldious, Scandal, Trident, Love Bites, Nemophelia, Pokadot Stingray, Wagakki Band, One Rock OK, Yousei Keioku, Ninjen Isu.

Comparing BabyMetal with BAND-MAID just because they are Japanese is like comparing the Beatles with Iron Maiden because they are English. The only thing they have in common is their nationality and that time will also make them Legends.
