I'm 72 grew up loving The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Free, Cream, Moody Blues etc and saw most of those and many other great bands of that era live, Band Maid pretty quickly became a favourite alongside them

Honestly I think this band is better than those you had mentioned and I'll tell you why. Every band you mentioned has at least a few stinkers. You know songs you can easily skip. That's just not the case with band-maid, I haven't heard a bad song from them yet. And I've heard a lot. Second these ladies are the most wonderful women you could ever hope to meet. Humble and sincere. Third, they value their fans more than any other band I've ever seen. Lastly, they are all consummate professionals at their instruments.

This just the tip of the iceberg for their 130+ song catalog. You should check our their official LIVE video for "Domination." When Miku (rhythm guitarist/red rose) started the band, the idea was that she wanted to be able to wear cute, girly outfits but "play cool music."

I know I'm biased, but I think they stand toe to toe with the all time greats. They remind so much of the variety of songs I grew up loving but when I actually listen to their song in direct comparison to the song it reminds me of, they just instrumentally blow those songs I loved in my formative years out of the water. It's still just as catchy as the stuff I loved, but the level of depth is just unparalleled. I say this honestly; after over a decade of cynicism towards new music, thinking 99% of the music I would ever love was already written, when I first heard them purely by chance in late 2021 during a movie, stopped what I was doing and just listened to this song three times in a row, and then heard more and *they made me love music again.* That's a hell of a feeling to get from just one band.
And this was just one song, and not a great version of it IMHO. They're that good and such a variety of every combination of rock, punk, pop and metal you can come up with. If you want guitar, I suggest Hate live or Puzzle live off their official channel.

Manchief, my favorite band for over 25 years was Rush which I’ve seen live 13 times. Notice I said “was”. Band-Maid took the crown for that top spot. Yes, these girls are like having ALL of those rock bands you mentioned, all rolled up into one band made up of 5 tiny women wearing maid outfits just jamming away at their instruments. It’s a shock to your sense of sight and sound when watching them live for the first time.
Why are you guys recommended this band to me? I’m so glad he did because I probably would’ve never seen him. That girl can play the f out that guitar.
This song is pretty much middle of the road in terms of just how good these ladies actually get live! Their best material can go toe-to-toe with all those bands you mentioned. And speaking of Led Zeppelin, when Band-Maid performed a show in Paris, Jimmy Page made his way backstage because he wanted to get a photo-op with Band-Maid's drummer Akane, who he felt was the closest he's seen to someone channeling John Bonham!

MIKU Kobato (Me-Ku), "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals and lyricist. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR Spokes Pigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. She couldn’t play when she formed the band and was tutored by Kanami.
KANAMI Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want is more!
AKANE Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa), "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!

Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band.
Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane.
Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar.
Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience.
MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls.
Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

Best rock band on the planet. Watch HATE? live from the Yokahama Arena concert. You haven't seen anything yet. They were in England several years ago and Jimmy Page had to meet Akane, the drummer, backstage and praised her highly. I always tell everyone that in some ways their World Domination album reminds me very much of Led Zeppelin IV in a number of ways.

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up.
Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

BTW they have gotten so much better since this performance. Band-Maid is a group that is always improving their sound and skills. hell Saiki, the lead vocals, started practicing piano and preformed this song solo in front of the largest show they ever put on. she had never played piano at a concert before. nerves of steel, that one.

Together they are greater than just the sum of the parts. But no bull MISA is possibly the most inventive bassist playing proper rock and roll music in the 21st century! All the rest of the members are exceptional musicians ecept for Miku Kobato who is an excellent singer/rhythm guitarist/lyricist and MC. Often overlooked she is the magnet that brought this band together. Poker player and horse racing enthusiast, Miku is hard as nails and sharp as a needle however all that is wrapped in cotton candy cuteness and the persona of an 810 year old pidgeon, po! I will always say we have BandMaid because Miku just happened to want to be a successful rock star. If she was a physician we may have had a cure for COVID in a week.Love this band!

Aside from the incredible music and playing, the way Miku and Saiki have shorten and twisted her lyrics to fit Kanami's writing is pure genius. The cadence, syncopation and soulful expression, like in Choose Me, is rare and kinda old-school-rock exceptional. It feels a bit like scat and fits perfectly to the vibe of the music - one reason why some of us don't care if we can't understand most the lyrics. Thx, D-Nice!

Choose Me is my favourite Band-Maid song..... Why?..... Coz it is a simple Chugger of a song.... Dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun..... Bare bones by Band-Maid standards. However my "Top 3"????? There's at least 10 songs in there..... How do they compare to bands like Led Zeppelin ? Well Zep's guitar player Jimmy Page is a big fan of the drummer Anne and the guitar player Kanami from Band Maid since he saw them live in Tokyo and had pics taken with the drummer. So I guess that answers one question for you. btw , check put their song Domination live 2020.

Good catch on them switching between Japanese and English. This gives them a lot of flexibility in their lyrics, at the expense of it being really difficult for them to get the lyrics down. But they pull it off amazingly well.

She is usually very on point, and never miss a note, so it's a rarity. But I would assume it's because it still was a pretty new song and nerves because of the live recording?
Still a great version. Comparison to Rush... Hmmm... Rush was a very good live band. Sadly never got the chance to see them live in 2007. Still a bit bummed out that I had to sell the ticket because of economy. Just the 3 main instrumentalists in Band-maid deserves to be compared to Geddy, Neil and Alex. Both great rythm-sections, and the guitar always stays true to the melody.
There's a reason they are being compared. Also: they're all good friends, and no tensions and little ego.

@@manchieffilms well... It's all about details. If you listen to the studio version, you get an impression of what she really wanted to do. Kanami is very hardworking, and detail oriented, so she hardly does change a solo. I believe it's her quality stamp or her signature, so to speak.
