    Good for you for pursuing this learning. I, too, am an adult student of the violin. I started to learn at age 70 and now am 77. Since beginning the violin, I have had rotator cuff surgery on both shoulders. These surgeries have retarded my progress while my body healed, but now I am making advancements that were previously unachievable due to shoulder pain and mobility issues. Keep up your work and someday we might meet one another at Carnegie Hall.

      I can identify with your situation! I have neck problems that cause me a lot of pain and this has also slowed my progress a bit. But we continue despite everything and that's what matters!! And yes, we will see you at Carnegie Hall one day!!🎻🎻

      Thank you! I feel very happy for your words😊. I usually don't think my videos are good, but I try to show the reality, even if it means showing me playing badly. I saw so many perfect videos on the internet and thought "it's not possible that only I have difficulty" and I felt so bad and incapable. But I have learned to respect my time and maybe showing my difficulties and how I go through them can inspire someone!

    I just love your progress, and you give an adult beginner like me so much confidence that I can get better and its ok for the sound not to sound absolutely perfect. Thank you for making this.

    • @Violintures
      @Violintures  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm very happy to hear that! Don't give up, the sound improves over time. For some, like me, it takes a little longer, but it's still fun! Regularly visiting a luthier and putting quality rosin and strings on the violin helps a lot with the sound. I also feel that stretching before and after practicing and doing bow exercises on open strings help a lot! Thanks for the comment and welcome!😊🎻

    Hola, gracias por contar tu experiencua con el violin.
    En mi experiencia puedo decir que para aprender violin, de forma mas rapida depende de la practica y el metodo de enseñanza de violin(y tambien la calidad de violin).
    A mi me enseñaron un metodo acelerado de aprendisaje, que no es el suzuki, por 5 meses con profesor particular, 2 clases por semana, me falta para concluir 7 meses, no continue estudiando por motivos de tiempo y economicos.
    Pero esos 5 meses estudiados, lo vengo practicando mas de 1 año, sin profesor.
    Aprendi tambien de varios videos de you tube, que enseñan.
    Y puedo decir, que varias canciones clasicas que aprendi que son algo lentas se escuchan bien, como adagio de albinoni, adagio de secret garden y varios himnos cristianos, lo digo porque grabo el sonido para ir mejorando.
    Para alcanzar un mejor sonido, me ayudo bastante tener un violin nuevo
    europeo, no caro.
    Saludos

      Yes! Good guidance helps a lot in learning. Unfortunately I changed cities several times, so I had several teachers, with different methods along the way. My spine doesn't help either, I had to stop playing for several months for treatment.
      In my case, when I started we weren't in the habit of consulting TH-cam so much for answers. When I started doing that, it ended up getting in the way more than helping, because I ended up dedicating myself to things that were not yet at my level.
      3 months ago I started with a new teacher, online, who has his own structured methodology, based on Suzuki. And I have learned a lot! As it is online, even if I move cities, I remain with the same teacher. It has helped me to correct flaws in my base that were preventing me from progressing and I am much happier now when I practice. Thanks for sharing your experience!🎻😊

      Thank you for your comment! It's hard to keep motivated, but it's a worthwhile instrument. Wow, isn't it difficult to play the smaller size? The ideal would be to find a standard, but sometimes we can't, right? It's very admirable that you want to keep going, despite that, don't give up! 😊🎻

      I'm not really sure what I will do in the future, but for now I have two options:
      1. Study musical engineering and working in a studio
      2. Continue studying violin and play in orchestra.
      The second one sounds better for me and also harder
      I gonna make a choice til I finish school

I would play in an orchestra if I had the chance, but I guess I'm too old to try that now hahahaha But I definitely want to play with other people, it's really cool!

      @@Violintures I totally agree. I started an online course but I decided to set up time with a tutor via Zoom. I’m having difficulty with bowing. I keep hitting strings unintentionally unless I’m looking directly at them which is hard to do if you are looking at a music sheet. Now my music sheet is no more than open string exercises but still 😀

    • @Violintures
      @Violintures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the beginning it's like that. We have a hard time getting the string angles right. There's a lot to coordinate, left and right hand working separately, but with time it gets easier. I still bump a lot! The bow will be your biggest problem forever... And the intonation too! hahahaha What I suggest is you choose a teacher that you feel good about and stay with him, changing a lot ends up harming our progress. At least for me. I had face-to-face classes and as I moved a lot, I changed teachers several times and this left gaps in my progress that I'm still trying to fill.

      @@Violintures oh ok thank you for that advice. I am taking the online violin and piano tutor course (On YT) but I feel like I need someone to oversee my positioning and help me when things I may get stuck on so I just booked an in person teacher. She seems very good based on what I’ve seen

    • @Violintures
      @Violintures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After a long time of practicing I think the posture is the most important thing in the beginning, as it sustains your next years. I was not well oriented at first, which resulted in an injury to my neck that limits me to playing today. I've always had joint problems, but my neck has been aggravated thanks to bad posture.
      What I do now is always stretch before and after I practice and I spend about 10 minutes doing exercises with my right and left hands and arms. I even made a video about my warm-up, I don't remember if I posted it here, but anyway I think I'll update it.
      As for your bow bumping, I suggest you watch my Minuet video, I always practice the bowing on open strings before playing the notes! I bump a lot since it messes with my neck muscles and gives me pain, so studying this way has helped me a lot.

  • @ViolaGang

    This shows a very normal progression in new students, the one thing I would've done differently is to wait on learning vibrato, as early on it affects the pitch that your listening for making it more likely for you to be out of tune

    • @Violintures
      @Violintures  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I often found my progress to be slower due to months of not practicing. I started vibrato along with Suzuki book 2, on the recommendation of my teacher at the time. I started with the coordination exercises and then I tried to insert it into the pieces I already knew, but it is far from good hahahaha

    One question, which mic are you using in the last clip?

    • @Violintures
      @Violintures  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!! It's really hard to keep practicing and making progress, but I believe I've now reached a balance and I'm really looking forward to practice even more! As for the mic, I use a simple BM-800, I have a video talking about it, I'll leave the link below. To record I use Reaper and normally I don't use any sound filter, just an anti-noise if my street is too noisy. Reverb usually occurs because I practice in an almost empty room, but in some music videos I end up adding a little bit because I think it's beautiful. Thank you so much for watching and for your comment!

    Honestly you have good progress but you should have more in 4 years, I feel you don't practice enough... But it's good. Maybe it's your teacher, but after 4 years you should be playing czardas and stuff like that at a fairly good level. I suggest doing some open strings everytime you practice and trying to make a (1 minute bow), no one gets to a minute but you know what I mean, making it as slow as you can this will do wonders for your tone.

    • @Violintures
      @Violintures  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can't deny it, I didn't practice as much as I should. Although it has been 6 years since I started classes, the time I spent playing was much shorter, as I was several months without playing due to treatment, college, work, city changes. So I did the best I could with the time I had. Evaluating today, I realize that despite having little time, I didn't organize it correctly, perhaps due to lack of guidance or knowledge at the time. This is something I'm looking to change. I appreciate the exercise tips, I usually do them during my warm-up and they are really good! Thank you for your kind comment and welcome!😊🎻

      I don't know if I understood very well... I'm sorry! But I really appreciate the compliment. I get some bad comments about being slow to progress, so I'm glad when someone recognizes the effort I'm making. I started studying vibrato on my own, from my second year, if I remember correctly, I was at the end of Suzuki's first book. I used a Joy Lee video that I highly recommend. I stayed on it for months, not playing using vibrato, just doing the movement, practicing my joints.

      @@Violintures oh it wasn’t you. It was my stupid typo! I meant that I thought you sounded really good on the 4 year 5 month mark.
      Thank you for all the advice. I really would like to be able to play 2 or 3 songs at my daughters wedding in a few years

      @@Violintures oh and don’t let anyone discourage you with the negative comments. You go at your own pace. As long as you are happy and enjoying the process, that’s all that matters

      Oh yes! But it doesn't help my English not being so good hahahaha Thank you for your kindness! I had moments of great progress along the way, but when I had spinal crises I would go many months without playing, which always pulled me back.
      I'm sure you'll soon be able to play for your daughters. For me, it was a great emotion when I managed to play on Christmas for my parents and also on my husband's birthday, they were simple songs, but it was a great victory.

      @@Violintures that sounds wonderful :-) I hope you continue to improve. I just started with a teacher today. She wants me to start with pizzicato and I really don't want to. plus the songs seem so childish. I understand the need for simplicity but I don't want to play childish songs

      Hi! I'm sorry I don't speak your language, but if Google translated it correctly, the answer to your question is: "For the Lover that I Lost". I participated in the cover of this song on my friend Taysa's channel, if you're interested, here's the link: th-cam.com/video/z91m1tzQ0g8/w-d-xo.html !

      Hi! If you're referring to connecting notes using legato, yes.
