Him and Manny Jacinto. Both are the prime stars of the show. Lee Jung-Jae does a great job portraying a Jedi haunted by his past, who gives in too quickly and cares too much, while Manny Jacinto rocks as an apathetic psycho horror villain and manipulative bad guy. Love both of them.

It’s official, Qimir/The Stranger is the sexiest bad guy in all of Star Wars. I’m a straight guy and even I’m drawn in by his perfectly cut arms and that bad boy stare.
I hope seeing Manny Jacinto in this motivates these guys to watch The Good Place.

5:55 lol, literally, Osha was staring at his saber
Achara was literally me all episode I was scandalized but also impressed.
Vernestra's weapon is a light-whip (still can't get Family Guy's Stewie out of my head when I write that), possibly the most dangerous melee weapon in Star Wars history, and that's just for the user.
And Qimir has a Lightwhip wound on his back. From confronting her when he found out her secret.
I think the reason we see the other Jedi is to show they are lying to the government to keep good ties. I also think the head Jedi with the whip is hiding something/ knows more than she lets on. I think our dark side user/ “sith” has been doing something to keep himself young because he looks almost the same age as the twins but was a Jedi a really long time ago.
I also think our dark side user might be trying to become a sith the power of two could equal the rule of two.
He could have been her Padawan.
Maybe left when he was a child or teenager
Qimir knew who he took back to his lair because her tattoo was visible when he picked her up

The scenes aren’t filler, Vernestra is clearly hiding something related to the story. And it also demonstrates the Jedi just taking things at face value. First excuse they hear, they want to take a face value and not look further into situations.
A taste of what happens in 100 years
Great defense, I must have just imagined other filler scenes in these short AF episodes too. This series has a lot of filler that doesn't add up to anything, but sure, bias people can spin whatever they want. And guess what, if none of that adds up to anything which it most likely wont. It'll be "WELL it'll be explained in Season 2" Still hoping for Star Wars to be as good as it use to be.
@@Kanoog Star wars is no different than it has ever been. It has always been for tweens and kids. Hence "filler" to make things obvious for "certain young folks." Stop looking at Star Wars through an adult lens and just go with things and you'll be happier, I promise. Way too many people forget this has always been directed to children and tweens from episode 3 and onward, as far as release dates go. The jaded responses are pretty gross.
Agree. It's 100% sure that Vernestra was upto something and it connects with her this behavior. She has some darkness too. And that she getting uncomfortable in the space is from the EU. She gets some visions when she travels through the space. So I think she got some visions here too and she is hiding it.
When you realise that the moment Osha puts on that helmet, its not just about finding the space to focus on the Force without outside influences, its also about her shutting out the world around her and disappearing into her own headspace.

The point of the scenes with Vernestra is that she is actually Qimer's former master. The scar on his back is from her whip. She is now trying to cover her tracks.

Shes also actively hiding stuff from the Jedi High counsel and now there's going to be an investigation. So whatever happened 16 years ago will come out and look really bad for Jedi order.
I think scenes with Vernestra and the jedi had hidden messages of possible "outcomes". Just my limited guess:
1) Vernestra is indeed Qimirs master. The scar on his back was different shape and they intentionaly showed us a Lightwhip and they should not! The Bugs are attracted to Light and they didnt had lightsabers on, only Lightsource was a Sun.
2) Vernestra nad High Jedi council will Politicaly hide Sith existence and indeed Blame all for Sol.
Next episode should be a flashback from trailers I hope.

Remember those political enemies they were talking about because one of those scenes shows you the Jedi are coming under fire and this whole incident 16 years ago is coming back to bite them and they've been untransparent at the worst time.
The hyperspace joke was for the book readers as it is a trait character trait for Venestra who gets Force visions in it.
The interstellar travel thing causingher to be nauseous was a nod to her from the High Republic stuff where she experiences visions during ftl travel and, I think, visions aren't well regarded by the Jedi.

Both Qimir and Sol knew of the swap. Qimir saw Osha's tattoo. Sol asked 'Osha' "Where is she?" when she came out of the woods, and got "Who?" in response. It's why Sol's reply is "Your sister" not "Mae". I think him playing dumb was to get a read on whether she'd be willing to leave her master.
I don't think the Jedi intentionally killed the Witches. I think they were forced into it...and felt guilt about how they handled it. If they had intentionally killed them, Saul wouldn't be able to convince Mai to trust him. Maybe the mother attacked them...and they killed the rest.
yes, my guess is Same. In Trailer there is Fight between Wookie and the Thorbin. On of them had to be mindcontroled. Thats how Thorbin also got the scar an eye out.
Thing is.. if there was Qimir at that time or his master.. there were 2 hooded person and clearly not witches.

Like we all thought Manny wasn't the Sith because we couldn't believe they would make it that obvious. Right not we're assuming that the writers have a plan and that this is all going to make sense. I'm doubting that.

Speculations about what really happened at this point feel less like "theories" and more like "audience trying to cover for the writers by filling in bits they should have already explained by now". Every conversation is like "wait... what REALLY happened with ________??" "I'll tell you later" "Okay cool" 🤦♂
The fact that they got to the end of the first episode before revealing there was an 'evil twin'-situation so as audience members we didn't know if we were supposed to be rooting FOR the character they were introducing us to or AGAINST is pretty criminal. And it hasn't gotten better from there. I'm just watching for the sunk cost at this point 😬
The Jedi council in their hubris choosing to believe Sol did it or bugs rather than an emerging thread like the Sith, it's perfect to me, shows how Palpatine made it
Maul and Palpatine didn't just magically spawn, they had been in there for years, personally loving this show because of this, they are showing more of the Jedi mistakes, of their big ego, we saw a bit of that in tales of the Jedi first episodes, I want more on high republic era
Lee's acting alone puts him top 5 all-time SW character for me. I've been dying for a performance like this from a hero for decades.

Aside from the thirst, there's something symbolic about revealing yourself naked as if he is not hiding from her in any way.
Achara (sorry if I spelled your name wrong) may be onto something… maybe Qimir or I guess they’re calling him The Stranger was Vernestra’s padawan who fell to the dark side. That might be why it’s “personal” for her and she knows he’s really the one who did it

I feel like im alone on this, but I think Qimir's master might have been Sol, maybe Qimir as padawan was backup on Brendok and Sol left him to die, people are mostly sayin Vernestra for the wobbly scar on his back and her being kinda sussy, I feel like that was the point of those scenes when the padawan asked her if she was going, why did she wanted to go so badly? she could've just sent a big squad, specially if she is an important Jedi, you send someone, you don't go yourself

Hi Jaby. I did not take the mention of Venestra getting nausea from hyper speed as a joke. It just sounded like concern for her joining the rescue party.
Venestra is the only character in show from the High Republic novels and apparently a type of "sea sickness" vision during hyperspace travel was one of her quirks.
i imagine its something that was came up in the comics or one of the high republic book she is in. kinda like anakin hating sand. we know he hates it so if he goes to a desert planet or a beach we'd expect him to complain. knowing that she character that has existed in both comics and novels (not that i have ever read any of them) i would expect stuff like this to come up.

Great review guys...very balanced😁I enjoyed this episode - even the parts that felt like filler had hidden references. Vernestra feeling 'unsettled ' by hyperspace travel is a reference to how she would sometimes get Force visions in hyperspace (from the novels) and I think seeing her use her laser whip on that umbramoth was so we would link it to the unusually shaped scar on Qimir's back which makes me think she was his former Jedi master. Given that she's over 100 years old at this time and that he tells Mei he was a Jedi a really long time ago, what I want to know is just how old is Qimir? As per usual Master Sol gives the best performance in this episode.

At first wondered how a Jedi from a long time ago, then remembered from Jedi Survivor the High Republic Jedi Kal unlocked was one who turned and stored in a bacta tank for 200+ yrs. Could be similar deal.

It's for fans of the EU, Vernestra has visions when in hyperspace. The whip saber is part of Vernestra's bag of tricks as per the book. For people like me and you who haven't read that book, it really means nothing at all. It is fan service.

I think Disney insists on adding comedy + cuteness to all these star wars shows to keep kids engaged (and to sell merch) but it is boring to adults. I also think that is the reason that the episodes are shorter. Other shows like HotD and The Boys don't have that obligation.
People are saying that Quimir's scars look like whip marks. But those are not how whip scars look even if your back is bent. And a light whip would just cut and burn. so... that's weird.

I feel like this episode should have shown what really happened 16 years ago. I felt that this episode dragged on making the 30 minutes tick by slowly. They could have shown the scars on his back without have the scene of him skinny dipping. Definitely step down from last weeks episode.
yeah but that was him being vulnerable to be able to more easily manipulate Osha. Also, he needed a bath after that battle.
the 7th episode will surely be about Osha turning to the dark side.
The scene talking about Venestra getting nauseous was a reference to the old high republic books. In them a preteen/teen Venestra would get sick going through hyperspace. Only diehard fans of those stories will get the reference though, so not sure the scene was needed here.
The stuff with the "filler jedi" is important cause it talks about the jedi are about to have an audit on their practices.

The filler with Vernestra is because the characters are not part of the audience. Mysteries and thrillers deliberately take their time to get to the point.

I have been watching you guys since xmen 97 and I loved that it was not the best known topic. It was a joy to see you experience with fresh eyes that knows foils. I then started to watched your films and it hit me hard and made so much sense.

This show is starting to feel like Twilight.
How does Sol not sense Mae is pretending to be Osha. You don’t even need to force to figure that out. They act completely different, even in real life, you can tell which twin is which by the way they act, especially when you’ve been around one a lot longer than the other. The whole scene of her pretending to be Osha had no purpose either. It’s silly things like this that takes me out of this story.
The dizzyness is a reference to the comic.
Don't know about Venestra from the books, but people are saying Venestra gets "sick" during hyperspeed because she has intense Force Visions.

I want a good written show about Qimir without Mae and Osha who are really boring. HIs story is much more interesting....❤ Qimir (Darth Biceps/ Sexy Ren) and Daddy Sol are the only reasons for me to watch the show. Greetings from Germany
the thing you need to remember is that this isn't the first story set in the high republic era. i haven't read anything from this era except this show, but knowing that stuff exists out there lets me know that some of the things that are being talked about may be stuff that others know. the motion sickness is the best example of it. i saw it as a joke but also as potentially something that was known about this character who i believe was a protagonist of a few books and comics in this era. i have since learned that she gets crazy force visions while in hyperspace. ok new piece of context unlocked. i didn't know anything about it cuz i hadn't read anything from this era. but what about all the people who have? i get it you didn't understand it, but from what i read its a pretty big trait of hers.
It wasn't really a joke it was showing that she doesn't leave coruscant often which means she's more of a bureaucrat than an actual Jedi

vernestra scenes are there for a few reasons. she is a character from the comics and possibly the high republic books, so those who have read that content are familiar with her. just imagine if they had used yoda instead of her and then didn't show much of him. so thatas part of it. they are also showing us the political pressure she's under. that senator is preparing for a major anti-jedi vote in the senate. then the message that Sol's team pretty much had a TPK.
we get there and no sol, but there was talk about umbermoths hatching and casuing havok. enough so that the young jedi kid is (quite honestly) like well there you go a bunch of umbermoths wiped out an entire party of 8 jedi. makes sense to me. investigation close. like this is his honest reaction. the other 2 along with them don't question it either. the umbermoth explanation alone was enough for them to decide they didn't need to investigate any further. obviously later if they take this explanation to the council people are just gonna eat it up.
wost case scenario when the 3 or so smart bright people on the council realize something isn't adding up she can then blame it on Sol, or Mae, or Osha, or Mae's master from "another force cult" or something less politically dangerous. and since this is the fall of the high republic they wont like it but they pretend they buy the umbermoth story for political expediency especially on account of that anti-jedi bill that is currently on the senate floor that they wont want to get passed but likely will if word about how FUBAR the mission went. thats what those scenes were for.
also i saw someone in the notes suggest that Qimir's scars look like it could have been done by a light whip so getting her there is an excuse for her to need to use it to kill an umbermoth to tell the audience that maybe she had soemthing to do with it.
they are also some light hearted scenes after having just witnessed almost everyone we love on this show get killed off and mae's slow curruption taking place.
I only watched the show for Manny Jacinto and it absolutely does not disappoint. 🤤

The only thing I'm going to say about the other Jedi in the show, not many are connecting the light saber whip and the scars on Qimir. There's a reason for everything.

"The show is great" kind of almost believable maybe.
It should have been 4 episodes long, not 8, They split it up to drag it out which is apparent.
I think the scenes at the temple were showing several things including foreshadowing the inevitable scandal in the senate in episode 8 for which Sol will likely take the fall (Osha's probably going to kill him) and really pushing the fact that Vernestra's hiding something beyond the political coverup stuff.

So it appears that Vernestra will be Qimirs Jedi Master and he got kicked out for his dark thoughts, like the little black girl in ep 1 and her seeing fire when Sol asked them what they see.
The Helm is his old depravation helm from when he was young and modified to fit him as he aged. I bet The Jedi youngling helms also are made of Cortosis.

Now it also appears that Vernestra sent the 4 Jedi to Brendok to find Quimir, 16 years ago. That would have mad him about 10-15 at that time. Only to find Osha and Mae and Quimir was the one doing all the mind takeover, when at the Coven back then. Torbin, Kelnacca and all the chaos. It does seem to follow her story very closely and with Sol possibly taking the place of Imri Cantaros.
Yet playing into The arrival of a Sith in her later years.
Vernestra is actually a VERY good Jedi through out her history. So I doubt this version is bad in any way, just focused on the Jedi way and nothing else.
Headland probably threw in that line about Vernestra getting sick because her RL wife playing the part probably gets Airsick or has a fear of flying.
Hey guys, I liked this one, seen some new stuff! A whip Saber!! Made me look up some lore. Seems a Dark Side user... Lumiya, that went by the name of Shira Brie. She was a Imperial Spy who was trained by Vader himself! With the approval of Palpatine! Her main weapon was the whip Saber. She was so good with it, she defeated Luke! When he was a Grandmaster... Crazy! Which made Luke build a shorter light saber ( like Ashoka) to counter her whip!! Very Cool. I got the info from the Comics. Just thought it was Cool✌️Lv y'all mean it ❤️
Pretty sure Venestra gave Qmir that scar. That's what all those scenes with her are eventually leading to I think.
totally understand your thoughts on Master Venestra, theres a novel thats about her and a lot of her character is shown from that. shes very old and they referenced that stuff in those scenes you wish were removed. honestly books shouldnt be something called out so heavily since it goes over a lot of people who are only TV/Movies. always love your reactions guys!~ Jaby
