I loved how this episode showed Sol and Indara having different parenting techniques/styles. Sol is super soft and short from becoming a "soccer mom", believing Torbin´s emotions are valid and the girls need protection, while Indara thinks you can't hold the hand of your kid the whole damn time, you guid them but let them learn by themselves.
Torbin was such a teenager here, stuck camping with his mum when all he wanted was to hang out with his friends.

Sol totally messed up this situation. If he had followed the direction of Indara, EVERYONE would still be alive. The Coven, Indara, Torbin, Kanaka, Jecki, Yord and the "Red Shirts." Quimir would be somewhere getting his dark side life happening for sure. But the repercussions of Sol's actions caused a "butterfly effect" of dark side proportions.

I might miss something but do we know if Quimir somehow connected to the Coven? Or he just somehow found Mae and took her as an apprentice.

Technically, the Jedi never saw Mae start the fire, so they really decided to cover up with a complete lie. It just coincidentally aligned with what really happened and what Osha personally witnessed, so Osha believed it whole-heartedly.

This is my take on the situation if it helps. You start with the premise that the Jedi are deeply distrusting of other force users. The Jedi have a specific, rigid way of teaching the younglings how to use/tap into the force because that is the best/only way to safely/responsibly use the force. One of the main pillars of the Jedi use of the force is to not be influenced by strong emotions such as anger or fear. Other force users don't follow the same parameters including the covenant. This is shown when the second sister told Mae to get angry to bring out a stronger force reaction in Mae before she sent Mae to Osha. Mae in turn being all riled up ended up starting the fire. So when Sol sees all the interactions between Mae & Osha & the rest of the covenant he looks at those with a distrusting eye (maybe more so than other Jedi because of his own background alluded to in prior episodes). Sol misinterprets everything and therefore believes the twins are in danger especially when Mae likely mischaracterizing the ascension ceremony. I don't think what Mae told Sol & Indira during the test about the ascension ceremony was true & correct. She told then what she understood it to be as a child so it sounded way worse and more dangerous than it actually is. Indira seemed to understand that (she was being giving information from a child), Sol did not. The covenant always seemed to act in a self-preservation mode with the Jedi not an aggressor mode so there is no reason to believe that they wanted to hurt/injure anyone. When Mae ran up and told Mother that Osha was in trouble Mother started to use the disappearance on both. i think that was a travel skill/move. The second sister used the same move during the fight with Sol and she just disappeared. It wasn't an attack move. I think Mother was trying to to save Osha from danger and Mae was the person who knew where Osha was located so she was taking herself & Mae to find Osha when Sol struck her. She already told her own covenant that she's choosing to be the mother figure over the leader figure when it came to Osha leaving. When she told Sol that she was letting Osha go, I think she meant that. She was the leader and the final decision maker. By that time it was too late because Sol struck the killing blow due to his own fear/prejudice. At that time, he realized what he had done so when the second sister attacked him he just defended. He could have killed her too but didn't. I think the point of the episode was to show the flaw of the Jedi and their belief that only they have the best interpretation of what the force is and how it should be used. Viewed In that light, I think the episode made a lot of sense. Again the Episode was shown from Sol's perspective (in the previous episode ending he was talking to Mae telling her it's been 16 years he's been contemplating what he would say) so it's natural that a lot of it didn't fully make sense or was disjointed because that's how he saw the situation. Obviously he was in the wrong. As to his fixation on Osha. I think he really thought he was saving Osha from a "cult". That's why he was fixated on saving both of the twins from the "cult" but more specifically Osha, after Mae intentionally failed the test.

    • @ashleyfalconer3226
      @ashleyfalconer3226 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

I think you summed everything up perfectly! Also I agree with your assessment of Sol’s motivations. People suspect that Sol was driven by a desire to have a powerful and unique padawon, but I think more than anything else he was motivated to rescue both girls from what appeared to be a cult because of his rush to judgement. Osha wasn’t his obsession and I don’t think he saw himself in her, I think she simply validated his suspicions about the covenant due to her desire to want to leave her environment and become a Jedi. Surely, something evil must be at play for her to want to leave and poor Mae was brainwashed into wanting to stay. I think that was his mindset. I’m looking forward to seeing Mae’s reaction to all this in the current timeline.

I think she was trying to get Mae out of the line of conflict, and also get her away from the Jedi. She was going to let Osha go because she wanted to, Mae didn't. Sol definitely was recruited at an older age. He was 4 years old, old enough to remember leaving his family. Sure, he puts a positive spin on it NOW when he's telling Osha what it was like to be brought to the Order at that age, but I used to work in a daycare center and if you think 2- and 3- and 4-year old children aren't devastated when their families leave them with strangers for the first time, I have news for you. And with especially shy or sensitive children -- and Sol seems VERY sensitive as an adult, so you have to wonder what he was like as a kid -- it's especially traumatic for them. They can't be distracted with toys or cookies or meeting other kids, and explaining that mom or dad will be back in 8 hours brings no relief.
It pains me SO much to say this -- you just can't imagine how much -- but I'm starting to think maybe the Jedi have a good case for recruiting them as babies before they can really remember their families.

Remember, it’s Osha that had drawings of the Jedi symbol before actually meeting Jedi. Osha who clearly stated a desire to leave the coven and join the Jedi. Osha who felt the connection to Sol. Sol’s reaction was to feeling Osha’s desires and fears. His sensing that the twins were in danger were Osha’s crying out to the force, and other compounding misunderstandings.

Indara did have an unusual facial reaction when Sol mentioned that there were many more children that the Jedi had taken in (when they were testing Osha)... so it is possible that Sol does have some sort of backstory to him that caused him to act irrationally when it came to the twins. It's possible Indara knows of what Sol went through, hence why she's more receptive to allowing Sol to do what he wanted, despite initially wanting to not interfere with the witches.

One of my interpretations/theories about Sol's strong emotional obsession with Osha:
This is supposed to represent the limits of the Jedi's restrains and why some of them come close to the edge or even become Sith.
Since childhood, they have been cut off from all family, from all love. The only emotional connection and partner they can have is with the master/padawan relationship.
Sol is a very emotional person who must have desperately craved this connection with someone to the point that it became an obsession. And by meeting a force-sensitive child who also felt alone among her family, he told himself he had finally found his partner.
There is a strong parallel between Sol's desire for a padawan (and his attachment to them) and Qimir's desire for an acolyte.

Jaby asked whether the method of delivering the full story of what happened on Brendok is effective... in my mind, it is. My read of the story is that it's highlighting how everyone in the situation came in with their own biases and prejudices against the other party. The witches thought certain things about the jedi before ever meeting the four specific jedi on their planet. The jedi, particularly Sol, formed opinions about the coven and the safety of the twins after getting only a small piece of the information necessary to truly be able to make that decision.
The way the story is told, it causes the audience to follow that same path. From the first scene where Mae kills Indara, we immediately started to form an opinion of Mae based on that one tidbit of the story that we had seen. As the series has gone on, and as we have learned more, and particularly after this last episode where we see that Mae is largely justified in viewing these four jedi as the reason her mother died. Now does that completely exonerate Mae of the choices we have seen her make, of course not... but does it change our view of Mae and what we think of the character... at least for me, it certainly does.

So the twins and Anakin are vergences. The feeling I get is that they are such a unique feeling in the force, that their existence causes strong reactions in some force sensitives.
Another take I had on the behavior of the Jedi are that the witches messing with their minds is more powerful and longer lasting than initially let on. I think Torbin took the Barash vow partially because he felt guilty and partially because he felt he needed to clear his mind. Kelnacca had the ENTIRE coven in his mind, if you notice in his hut in present times, he had drawn the covens symbols all over the walls inside his hut.
I get a sneaky feeling the message they are really going to push here is that the force itself isn't good nor bad, but how force sensitives interact with the force is what tips their internal compass.

Acolyte all-flashback episode 7 was very good.
I liked the references to the hyperspace catastrophe that wiped out life on some planets; of which in the last episode Jedi master Vernestra has pain/nausea from traveling through hyperspace due to her strong connection to the force.
The fact that Sol was an emotional Jedi like Dooku, Anakin and Quigon Jinn was seen in quite a big way.
The turn of the plot, who is responsible for the death of the entire Clan of these Witches who follow the path of Bogan = Darkness in magic, they were quite similar to the Witches of the Sisterhood of the Night from Dathomir, where Darth Maul also comes from.
The fights were great, the choreography was great and seeing two Jedi fight against a possessed Wookie Jedi was great.
But most of all, normally, just like Mother Cora, I felt this emotional pain in my heart. When Sol killed her partner, co-mother of two children and the love of her life, mother Aniseya, in front of her eyes.
The destruction reminded me of something similar to when the Jedi destroyed the entire planet of Korriban, where the original Sith race came from.

  • @G1Transformed
    @G1Transformed 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    @CinePals,
22:23 I don't think it's about Sol, at all but Osha @Achara. Why was Osha outside the compound?
12:21 Your video has this bit of dialog edited out, but a witch named Rane says, "She is a child. The girl has yet to discover the power she holds. It's not her decision to make."
    A couple of things:
    1) Mother Aniseya seemingly criticized the Jedi for wanting to control the Force, though she called it the thread. She said that it (the Thread) wasn't something to be controlled. So why is the coven trying to control Osha? Osha and Mae are the vergence, a concentration of Force Energy, manifested into a being, just like Anakin!
    2) The Coven and Mother Koril have been disappointed with Osha's ineptitude using the Thread. Osha and Mae are the exact same, and while Mae is capable of using the Thread with ease, we saw in episode 3 and this one that it isn't easy for Osha.
I think the answer to the question I asked above is this: Osha was outside the compound at the Bunta tree because she wanted to practice and strengthen her connection to the Thread without the coven and Mother Koril judging her. She also wanted to practice without Mae reminding her how weak her connection to the Thread was. What happened when Mae showed up? Mae immediately inserted herself into Osha's training, doing what Osha wanted to do, but with much more precision and control. And what was Osha's response?
"Let it go, Mae. Stop! Why do you always have to do things like that."
    --Osha
We viewers thought Mae was being sadistic and we were led down that path because of the way the story was shown to us. This side of the story shows us that Mae isn't the person we were introduced to. Mae was just a sister who really loved her sister; she was a sister who wasn't aware of her penchant for intruding on personal space and privacy. Osha was her world, which is why she couldn't stand to be apart from her. Osha was all Mae ever needed. But Osha wanted more. She wanted to be acknowledged by her coven in the same manner as Mae. She wanted her Mother Koril to see her as she saw Mae, but that wasn't possible with Mae always showing her up.
Osha was pissed. Mae had interrupted her for the last time. Osha wanted space between her and her sister, so if Mae wanted to be a witch, Osha decided she wanted to be something else--Mae can't show her up if she's doing something else, right.
Couple this with what Qimir told Osha last week, that the power she was projecting on Sol, was actually her own power in the Force.
Mae and Osha were groomed to be witches and taught to do the same things their coven did.
Osha failed because she couldn't connect to the Force the Jedi way or her coven's way. It seems like the story is implying that Osha's connection to the Force is much stronger on the Dark Side of the Force!
Why did Sol become a different person after seeing the girls? Moments earlier, he was just a Jedi doing his job. Albeit with a bruised ego since Indara reminded him why he didn't have his own padawan. That was on his mind when he found the girls, which is when Osha was pissed at her sister, and her anger grew throughout the evening, and Sol was there to watch it all. As Osha's anger grew, so did her connection to the Force. Did Osha inadvertently, reach out through the Force and touch Sol's mind? She wanted out of her coven. She wanted to be something else, and the guy with a bruised ego was in the position to give it to her--why did Osha's journal have the Jedi emblem in it? Did Osha see that when she touched Sol's mind? How would she know what a Jedi was if she had never been to Coruscant? We know that she had just drawn it because Mae asked to see it!
This episode makes Sol's actions look bad, but I don't think Sol was acting on his own. I think he was given a mental push in the same way Mother Koril pushed Mae.
Even with both girls on the bridge, we can see Sol trying to save both of them and the moment he realizes that he can only save one, he chooses Osha without a second thought. Was that really his doing or the overwhelming influence put on his mind? Their bond definitely grew over the years, but I think it started because Osha inadvertently, touched his mind 16 years ago.
Is Osha actually the bad child! Is Mother Koril still around? What or who was in this pit 3:59?!
Hopefully, we get more answers to this in a few days. This was a really good episode, I particularly like how it painted both the Jedi and the witches in a bad light. Neither side listened to the girls, they both did their own thing. The events that led to Mother Aniseya's death couldn't have been avoided, IMHO. Mother Aniseya violated Torbin's mind the day before, so the Jedi knew that she was capable of doing terrible things, and when you couple that with Mother Koril drawing her weapon and the surrounding witches training their weapons on the Jedi, it isn't shocking to see Why Sol did what he did. The fact that he saw Mae disappearing into Mother Aniseya after she had asked for help made him fear for her life. Mother Aniseya was already a cloud of smoke and Mae was about to join her in seconds. Was she killing Mae? Mae just told him and Indara that Mother Aniseya that they all had to walk through fear and that they all had to be sacrificed. Sol came to protect the girls, and he thought he saw Mae being sacrificed. He had to act before it was too late.
A lot of bad moves were made, and it's all due to poor communication on all sides.

Regarding the discussion at about the 33:00 mark... I believe that Mother Aniseya was going to let Osha go. In the discussion she had with the rest of the coven she told them that in this instance she chooses to be a mother. From her earlier conversation with Osha and based on the back and forth with the coven, what she meant by that is that she would side with Osha and let her go. But then immediately following that decision, we have Torbin and Sol coming into the courtyard and the confrontation with Koril/death of Mother Aniseya.
Regarding the arrow conversation at the 35:00 mark... Mother Koril was standing between Sol and the witches firing the arrows while fighting, so perhaps there was at least some hesitation to launch arrows in that direction for fear of friendly fire. Additionally, to Achara's point, we see the jedi blocking shots not just for themselves but for others all the time in the movies and in the Clone wars/Rebels and other shows. In Clone Wars and then in Rebels Rex even directly refers to the "you block, I shoot" strategy.

    Why does stone burn...
Why did they attack the Jedi when Aniseya was going to let her child go with the Jedi...
Why did Sol climb to the top of the mountain when later in the episode he could read the thoughts of the people in the mountain...
Why did Indara not understand that children can grow up to lead the Coven...
Why is a Jedi Knight of Sol's caliber unable to control his emotions...This has been demonstrated throughout the series...
Why are the Coven worshiping a hole... (oh never mind)...
Why did they only tell Torbin what they were looking for on the planet 7 weeks into the mission...
Why was Torbin so homesick... He was a Padawan but he has had many years of training in the force... certainly this was not his first away mission... why did he give in so easily to mind control ...
Why was Kelnacca so easily controlled...
After 7 episodes, it is confirmed... Sh*t writing is sh*t...

In the osha episode where we saw this, when the Jedi arrived, when the witches are alerted its said that they are ‘slicing’ hacking the door controls, so the witches knew the jedi were coming when they did that.

great discussion cause there's a lot of unknowns still left on the table like what set Sol off on his path of behavior. I'm with Achara, I get Sol committing Burglary to investigate this situation unknown force users and children but then he and three others break in and have to be forcibly persuaded into leaving. They break in again, to take the children, of course a fight breaks out. Maybe Aniseya was changing slowly because she was trying to transport Mae, the child who wanted to stay was crying for help as well as herself?? Sol misidentifies her as Osha in danger and kills Mom. Nobody is able to fight the fire cause they're busy fighting intruders or already dead?? Torbin is tripping cause Mother A. said she could give him what he wanted all he had to do was ask to leave/ go home. Her mind magic hyped that desire up to 11.

Sol further proves her obsession with this false choice with the twins, Achara says it was an impossible choice but she forgets a move that Jedi make all the time, like during the fight in this episode Kelnacca used the force against Sol and Torbin.
    "impulse and attraction"
Yes, Sol could have used the attraction with the force and caught them both but her motivation wasn't the same for the two children.

Does anyone else feel like indara did not actually contact the Jedi council? We never see.her actually talk to them, and the look on her face when she sent them back to camp was one of deception.

Totally agree about the structure. IF you're doing the Rashomon thing, you can't be showing scenes outside of that person's viewpoint. In episode 3 we saw quite a bit that was outside of Osha's viewpoint...except that we just left out some things (like the Mae fire being accidentally on purpose reveal we get in this episode). Except that's something Sol wouldn't have known either...
The motivation of "I want to go home" is really weak.
They demonstrate early in the episode that there's an element of the Jedi having to make some kind of concession in their mind to be taken over...yet Kelnacca is controlled easily into fighting his pals? And why did they all die when the connection was severed??
I really want to like this show because it's got some super interesting ideas but man the execution is really bad.

I’ve said this elsewhere, but Sol’s bizarre, empathic impediment is throwing me off. How did he advance beyond being a Padawan with this issue? For example: taking Torbin, Osha, even Mae’s feelings as his own, and acting upon them.

It was so cool to find out the reason why Mae was able to convince that one Jedi to drink the poison was because he hopped on a speeder and drove away too fast.

If Torbin doesn't hop on that speeder to go grab the girls, Sol doesn't chase him and sense Mae about to start the fire. No Jedi show up at the compound, Mae gets help from Aniseya, Aniseya looked like she was about to teleport them both to go rescue Osha. Witches don't spend their energy fighting the Jedi so maybe they instead stop the fire from spreading far enough to blow up the compound. Without Torbin, none of the deaths happen. Sol is most at fault but Torbin is the one who kicks it off on the night shit hits the fan. He also loses an eye and Kelnacca is left scarred by the mind control which wouldn't have happened if they hadn't had to go rescue Torbin/Sol

    • @moe5020
      @moe5020 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@ibanezaxe8 Torbin literally did nothing though. Torbin was mind controlled unprovoked and then Sol is the one who started climbing up first and is the one who kills Aniseya. Then he defends himself from witches trying to kill him with arrows and they mind control Kelnacca to almost kill him. He didn't even want to be on the planet in the first place. So I don't buy that he doesn't blame Sol and the 2 mothers for most of this and he def wouldn't kill himself over this and after years of meditation aswell your telling me he did all that meditating and he didn't make peace with the fact it was all BS and not his fault?

      Why lift them of ?
You can clearly see that the passageways behind them are currently not on fire.
So all you have to do is ask them to get of the collapsing bridge, and after that you have plenty of time to figure out how to get them down.

The thing you don't like about Sol is exactly this. They don't know how to write and this is one person that you get a connection with and yet they write such and illogical script and bad character development that his loss is just relieving in the end. I am trying to be impartial here, but after seeing this lack of consistency and character development and so many things that don't make sense from how people normally react that I got to say a simple word for this show. PUKEY!
