Everyone clutches their pearls when George is a peeping Tom but never says a word about Lorene changing in front of an open window so regularly multiple people got hit by a car watching. Later we find out how wild she was that was totally ignored in the beginning. Woman was take responsibility for their actions and always blame men and have a double standard. Both got what they wanted just like in this movie. But people are so fast to create a victim and victimizer situation that doesn’t apply.

When Eugene Levy was asked to play Jim's dad, the character was written real creepy. Eugene only agreed to take the roll if he could rewrite the character. He created this awkward but caring dad that everybody loves. The scenes between Jim and his dad were improvised. Eugene has the only character who appears in all the American pie movies. After a while it became a paycheck, but a steady paycheck.

Everything backfires when they do something morally questionable in these flicks. Spanking to scrambled channels without locking your door, bad.. immediate smackdown. Giving your girlfriend a Tongue Tornado? Fate steers you clear for doing a good deed. The best addition to this formula though is Jim's dad. Misguided, earnest, and infinitely understanding.

But teens are always trying to push limits or see what they're trying to get away with. And both boys and girls did it. A lot of people will point out this film or revenge of the nerds. But no one points out fast times at ridgemont high. You have one high school girl that supposedly has a boyfriend that's way older. Then you have another that lies about her age to a guy that's over 21... she's 16. I think people need to calm down and just enjoy what the characters are going through. Right or wrong we've all done stuff in our past that was probably questionable. It's part of growing up. You learn from mistakes and experiences. Anyway that's my rant. Great reactions.

I can't see the scene where Jim secretly broadcasts a girl changing in private, and then go "well boys will be boys, I hope he still gets laid on prom night!" The issue I mostly have with the film is how they are suppose to be in their 30s but they are still acting like they are in high school, doing high school shenanigans and It gets pretty cringe imo. The first 3 movies are wonderful because the problems feel authentic to the time period in their lives. Don't get me wrong its not like in the 4th movie they don't show obstacles you would face at that juncture of your life. Such as Jim and Michele having issues with keeping the spark in their marriage after having a kid. However, most of the other issues are juvenile or trying to be solved in a juvenile way. I know comedies do this all the time but we basically grew up with these characters so we got to see them at every major point in their lives. So many younger people don't realize how much has changed. DSL and Cable internet were still in their infancy. Most people still had dial up internet service. Just 6 years earlier guys were waiting 10+ minutes for a picture file to download in hopes that the file name blonde-in-bikini.jpg was accurate. Since all you got was a list of files and no preview. Most people didn't have a cell phone and those who did could only make calls. Cameras in phones were rare in 1999. The internet was the wild west and we unleashed teenagers on it to roam with little supervision. (Mainly because Mom and Dad had no clue what was out there)
I agree that broadcasting her was wrong, however at that time it would be chalked up to being on par to trying to sneak a peak in the girls locker room. It wasn't until understanding of the internet was more wide spread that people began to realize that it wasn't. The 90's were a wild ride.

Don't get me wrong, Buffy was a fairly big series in America for the time, but ultimately this Movie series was the one that got her known to the public, as it was far more watched, as a whole. Also do you understand how big the quote "This one time, at band camp" is? The women reacting literally knew the quote and they had never seen the movie, need I say any more?

Let me add this. It is now 2024. This movie came out in 1999. I had just finished my junior year of high school. The world of social media and the internet was so vastly different back then. When you see Jim come up with the plan to broadcast her changing to his friends you cringed. You recognized the gross invasion of privacy. And that is the correct response. But that technology wasn't exactly common back then and, despite some critics calling the film crass, there was little to no uproar over THAT particular scene. You referred to it as "live streaming" because that is a normal thing that happens every day. They called it "broadcasting it over the internet" but it was a new or limited technology. "Can you do that?" If you would have told me back then what things would be like now I would have never ever believed you for a second. Nobody would have. We just all watched with jaws dropped. But none of us watched that thinking "how can he do that? That's terrible." It didn't seem like any normal circumstance that anybody would find themselves in so nobody was bothered by it. And "I believe 'shaved' is the expression." While shaving may not seem odd today for females of that age and older...it was not a normal or common thing then. In fact, I can specifically remember this movie and that bedroom soon sparking curiosity and conversation about how common it might be. The internet was just becoming a normal thing but it was still all dial-up and AOL and just searching for that information as a teenage boy seems so funny to me now at 42 years old.
My girlfriend and I went to see this movie on a date. We had been together for over a year at that time. We are married now with a kid in high school. So I see this movie and I related to the high school guys THEN but now I relate to Jim's dad. And I cringe to think my daughter could possibly relate to the kids in this movie but reality tells me that is probably the case. There are movies that show a more normal high school experience from that time frame. I'd recommend "Can't Hardly Wait." That movie, IMO, is nearly a perfect representation of high school in the very late 90's. Movies like "American Pie" and "Varsity Blues" certainly show a bit of that life at that time but they both are a bit exaggerated. I'm rambling now but I appreciate the reaction to this movie. As somebody who vividly remembers seeing some of these scenes in the theater.
