I think this is the best 'seduction of the dark side' we have seen. Other instances it's just some evil guy being like oo join the dark side, but in this, it actually is presented as valid and relatable as a choice. He treats her as an equal, validates her feelings, and offers her choices, which probably make her feel the opposite of how things were like being with the jedi

The only Jedi acting more shady than Sol, is Vernestra. She may have been Quimir's master.

    • @brandoman79
      @brandoman79 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

I think so too; but where I think the twist will be; is that Quimir had already been seduced and turned to the Darkside when she gave him those marks; I see there being a mirror Jedi Master Vernestra vs fallen potentially turned to the Darkside now a Sith Apprentice Quimir ( we still haven't heard his Darth title yet) and Jedi Master Obi Wan vs fallen to the darkside Sith Apprentice Anakin. Imagine a scenario where Anakin continued to use his first name after losing his fight with Obi Wan; came across a former Jedi who failed out of the Academy and told that former Jedi that he too once was a Jedi; then points to his two metal legs and his one metal arm; hinting that it was his Jedi Master who did that to him ( Which Obi Wan did do) but he's lying by omitting key crucial details as to why Obi Wan did that to him. I think Quimir is lying to Osha by omitting the key crucial details as to why Vernestra gave him those whip marks. Again my theory is Quimir had already turned and was seduced to the Darkside and that he and Vernestra had a duel when Vernestra went and tried to reason with him and ultimately she defeated him and "abondoned" him due to him being a lost cause; similar to how Anakin would have argued Obi Wan abandoned him

    • @BravoDox
      @BravoDox หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@brandoman79 I think Vernestra's a Mace Windu-type character; she's not evil, she's still loyal to the Jedi, but her willingness to let politics affect her decisions has morally compromised her. I think she knows more about this whole situation than she's letting on, and has hidden whatever happened with Qimir from the Council because "the scandal of a(nother) fallen Jedi (my failure as a teacher) would weaken our (my) standing with the Senate".
I also think Qimir being a Sith is an intentional misdirect and he'll end up being the original Ren, a fallen Jedi who's really only practicing a bastardized form of the Sith religion. The maybe have Plagueis or possibly Tenebrous showing up at the end of the season, eager to ensure that the Jedi discover that this so-called "Sith" is merely a wannabe so that the actual Sith can continue flying under the radar.
Then again, maybe none of this is right and I'm way off. I don't wanna get too attached to my theory and then get upset when the season ends and "Mephisto was actually just Ralph Bohner".

Did you guys notice how Qimir changed the color of his outfit into a lighter more Jedi-like one after the swim … I think that was hinting at his duality or at least a super strong convincing tactic.
Also interesting how the cute little creatures on the island showed affection and were hugging, and then we get him talking about OSHA’s past of loving those who can “only go so far” - another tactic as in “don’t you want more?”
And when Mae came to and her hands were tied with Sol sitting there, I immediately thought of Rey and Kylo scene in Force awakens… wonder if there was some meaning there..

Assorted things I loved about this episode:
-Acknowledging that Osha had feelings for Jecki after they had one of the gayest conversations ever a few weeks ago
-Vern's saber whip! Heck yeah High Republic!
-Vern desperately trying not to repeat what she's see happen (during the Nihil conflict) when Jedi keep secrets, are too scattered, and communicate poorly
-Keeping alive the idea that Plagueis or another master is still out there, as it seems like Qimir might have tried to kill his master and failed
-As many have also said, turning Qimir into probably the most well-characterized and interesting Sith character (leastways without further developing him in a ton of supplemental material)

  • @TheRedBrethren
    @TheRedBrethren หลายเดือนก่อน +13

Couple things. The saber thickness has a canon reason. The high republic sabers stopped being so ornate when the Nihil conflict started. They switched to a “battle saber” which was chonky and rugged and easy to mass produce since they knew sabers were going to be lost and need replacement
That’s why all of their sabers are so big (sadly) that and they can be replicated at galaxy’s edge
Also we have to acknowledge the fact Qimir killed the Jedi with no sight or sounds available. Just the force

What if Venestra is a sith lord and Qmir was her apprentice and maybe she also trained Sol which is why when Sol said "what kind if master hides their face from their pupil", Qmir said "you tell me?" Possibly as a double meaning referring to both Venestra hiding her true face from Sol, and Sol covering up what happened on Brendock? Not a theory based on a lot other than "wouldnt it be cool if".

Star Wars Explained has a theory in two parts: one, Vernestra Rwoh was Qimir's master because her lightwhip could've only incurred that scar on his back; two, she may be the master behind everything because she's starting to act pretty sus
She was doing math in her head and said she "personally" wants to go to Khofar to see what Qimir has done
She may be worried Qimir is blowing her cover and ruining everything
She may have been using the Order and Sol this whole time
I'm inclined to agree with this
It may be the last layer of the onion that'll peel back and reveal as a major cliffhanger twist

Every thing with Osha and Qimir on that "Unknown Planet" the whole situation is like a "mirror" or reversed version of Rey and Luke on Ach-To in The Last Jedi. I mean it seemed fully intentional. Bazil was causing the power disruption and comms glitches to delay Sol and Mae "Osha" so he could tell Sol that "Osha" wasn't Osha.
I think that at first Sol didn't know "Osha" was really Mae until Bazil told him, but he did see that "Osha" was acting a bit "off", her lack of being upset about Jecki was a big red flag, it was Bazil that confirmed it wasn't Osha....
Notice that Qimir said he was a Jedi *a very long time ago* (he could be much older than he appears), and his "Jedi" Master tried to kill him and left a large whip-like scar on his back.

I think you could be onto something with the Vernestra being Qimir's former master or at least her being the cause of his scars. Vernestra is 116 years old at the time of the Acolyte and i think Qimir might be far older than he looks because of the way he emphasized that he was a jedi "A really long time ago". Qimir could be similar to Dagan Gera in the way that he was in Bacta sleep or even Cryostatis/Carbonite for a long time. He could have been Vernestra's padawan 60 years prior to the show for all we know.

    This episode was very intriguing.
Venestra is being quite suspicious with wanting to lead the rescue mission, then we have Qmir saying that long ago he used to be a Jedi and it seems his Sith Master(?) literally stabbed him on the back. It is just me or that seemed more like he was hit with a lightsaber whip on his back? The scar wasn't a straight line. Plus they had that very gratuitous scene of Venestra using her whip to kill one of those bugs.
Now Sol is also going obssessed with finding Osha and Qmir, even if that mean ignoring his Jedi superiors.
Plus it seems he is preparing to tell Mae what happened in Brendok.
I feel like Episode 8 will end up being a big three way fight involving Qmir/Osha, Sol/Mae and Venestra/her accompanying Jedi squad.

I love watching the two of you react to this show.
The dichotomy we have of suspecting Sol of having manipulated Osha by hiding the truth, and Qimir manipulating Osha by using the truth.
I know this won't be everyone's favourite episode as it is a slower, character focused, episode - but I enjoyed it as much as any other. Watching all the power plays *everyone* was making in this episode and guessing at how this plays out over the final act of the season.

This implies that it could indeed be the same planet, as the creatures may have had similar evolutionary paths. Just a thought.

THIS weeks episode is EVERYTHING I've wanted. Took its time, all acting was top notch. When it went to black before the final scene I was actually worried that it was over, whereas with the other episodes it was abrupt and I was disappointed. This episode I really wanted more. Vernestra is definitely Qimir's old Jedi Master, her character getting involved more, the talk and focus on his scar that looks whip-shaped, and then the very obvious reveal of the lightwhip that wasn't really necessary to do and could have been left out and saved for later but they decided to use it right then and there, so it has to mean something right?
I think that Qimir is a true sith of Bane's line, but the Jedi won't know that and will assume him to be a fallen Jedi much like Xanatos Du Crion and Komari Vosa in legends. Personally I think Qimir would be a good fit for Darth Venamis.
If we're looking at the timeline I'd say Plagueis is not the sith master yet. In Legends, Plagueis' master is Darth Tenebrous who had another secret sith apprentice Darth Venamis. According to the wiki, Venamis was a very talented duelist, very strong in the force, and could even levitate himself. Sound familiar? Venamis and Plagueis did not know of one another and eventually Plagueis overthrew and killed Tenebrous and soon after would be forced to also deal with Venamis who came after him. Venamis himself was also never truly given the title of Darth and was considered to be an illegitimate sith according to Plagueis. Long story short, I believe that Qimir is a canon version of Darth Venamis.
I think Qimir is a true sith of Bane's line and not just a fallen jedi because what jedi knows the sith code? Throughout the series Qimir had been quoting pieces of the sith code, especially peace is a lie, and has talked about killing the jedi dream. Why would he remain in hiding for so long, how did he get so skilled, etc. To me I think he is a sith apprentice, and Venamis fits the bill.
As for him seeking a pupil, could be him trying to get an apprentice of his own to eventually overthrow his master or something similar.

Why a red saber? By ways of the Force, a Sith would pour negative emotions, such as rage, hate, fear, and pain into kyber crystals. My theory is that Vernestra was indeed Qimir (Last Name Ren?)s Master, however something happened and he slowly fell to the Dark Side and then at one point snapped, maybe killed some people or something, she confronted him but he was too fast and got away but not before she managed to graze him with the Lightwhip.
Vernestra then either calculated or panicked and started to cover it all up because we get hints and all about some political Issues the Senate or at least some Senators have with the Jedi currently and a situation like a Padawan falling to the Dark Side and doing something bad is well, a really bad look for the Jedi Order and of course a very bad look for Vernestra herself and her Status (she was the youngest Knight after all at 15/16)...
However, I don't think that she's the "Big Bad" and that Qimir found someone else, maybe Koril who survived (don't think we saw her corpse explicitly), which would also explain why he knows so much about Osha, Mae, Sol and the other Jedi but as any Dark Sider, now seeks to supplant his Master with a Pupil of his own.

Well about the red saber. Bleeding is when you're able to focus on the darkness so much that you corrupt the kyber crystal itself. My take is that it allows you to attune to it even more, it is like adjusting the crystal from the natural state to corrupted state so you can utilize it more than you would if you wouldn't bleed it. But that's my take on it.

What I predicted after episode 2 or 3 has happened: Osha and Mae somehow switch places and/or masters, quite literally
I knew Mae was going to be found out easily, even in this episode; the PIP droid reset was the act that got her caught, not so smart on her part
I thought she was smarter than that
If she truly knew her sister, the PIP would've stayed like he was
Qimir is more of a revolutionary independent than a Sith; his beliefs and actions don't quite align with that religion
The only thing that does line up is how he preaches that one can tap into the Force with their passion, the MO for a Sith
Everything else is just circumstantial; he wants to teach this philosophy to any who'd listen
The Sith always thought about themselves when obtaining power; no sharing at all
Osha will definitely start going down the dark path that no one at that point in time has come back from
Like Qimir said, once you lose everything, you'll truly be free
Nothing is holding her back anymore, not even Sol and his teachings
She wants the Force to flow through her again more than anything and she's taking that chance
I'm awfully sad to see this if it does happen

So if Qimir has a Sith master out there, to take on an apprentice would be like a challenge to the title of Sith to any other Sith during the era….i am starting to like Qimir because its interesting to see a different take on a dark sider like this, but he's dead if Darth Tenebrous or Plagueis is around.

Don't most Sith Apprentices usually have a Sith Acolyte though? I'm pretty sure Qimir is the Sith Apprentice, or at least a Sith Acolyte tossed away by a Sith Apprentice. Either they will introduce some Sith Apprentice as Qimir's master doing damage control by killing Qimir and making Osha the new Acolyte. Or what I think will happen, is that Qimir is the Sith Apprentice and Osha will become his Acolyte.
This being Canon, there isn't really any need to stick to who were the Sith Lords of the time as Legends. Canon usually at best just kind of nods to Legends and then takes a bit of Legends and goes a totally different route with it. Rebels was particularly good at that.
So, my theory is, Qimir is a Sith Apprentice, maybe even one tossed away by his Sith Lord master who felt Qimir was too nice or something to fulfill the Rule of Two grand plan. Qimir knows he needs a pupil, someone who can help him gain the power to defeat his master, or former master while being able to carry out his plans. Something similar to Sidieous and Darth Maul during Legends or Tyranus and Ventress then Savage Opress during Clone Wars. Tyranus (I know I'm butchering the spelling I'm sure) even made Savage kill his first Jedi without a weapon if I remember correctly. So Qirmir is certainly applying Sith teaching methods with how he taught Mae. He even spoon feeds her the first line of the Sith Code.
Bane's Order of The Sith Lords even innitially believed that true power in the Dark Side could be found completely in the Sith Code if memory serves. Been forever since I read those books, so I need to refresh. Anyways, my two cents, Qimir is Sith, just might be one similar to Tyranus where he is never going to become a true Sith Master.
