    Great video. I purchased an Ayer Sky for my 2019 Outback last year. I love it and so does my Schnoodle, Scooter. I don't regret it at all. I agree, it beats unpacking and packing a ground tent and having unpack all the bedding. It took me a few times to set up and take down by myself but you begin to have a system and it works out just fine.

      Thanks! I hear you, once you get the system down, it’s so much easier.

    I love how you can get cece up there. However if it gets harder or just for an easier option. You can put some packing blankets or a mat of some sort on your hood and windscreen and they can walk right up and in to the side window access (granted that is if your side window opens up)

    Thank you for posting this, we are getting ready to buy an iKemper and before dropping so much money on a roof tent we had concerns how to get my 100lbs rottweiler in there...we gonna have to do some practice

      No problem, glad you found it useful. Hopefully you can figure something out that works. I know that would be a bit of work getting a dog that big in and out, out especially, that’s the hardest part for us for sure.

    Hey Matt, I love the dedication to getting you pup in your RTT! They are family after all! Check out Desert Armors patented DOGGO RTT Ramp! It works with most RTT's telescopic ladders and will really save your back! My 100lbs German Shepherd is a pro and runs right up in the RTT on his own!

    I have an older 60 pound dog. I purchased a dog carrying backpack and I just put him on my back when I go up the ladder and vice versa.

    • @MattKester
      @MattKester  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! That’s not a bad way to do it! Then you’ve got both hands free for the ladder for sure!

      Thanks for watching and thanks for the compliment! I hope you guys have a blast. I feel like with all the developed campsite closures going on right now, you really can't go wrong with an RTT so you can get to those out of the way dispersed sites, and still have somewhere dry and comfortable to sleep!

    Thank you for the tips. We use a ground tent now and I’m looking forward to getting a roof top tent. We occasionally camp with our 50lbs. German Shorthair Pointer. I’ll give your dog entry/exit technique a try.

      @MattKester  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Barry, thanks for watching and commenting. I hope this works out for you as well as it has for us. We're both not small people, and with the dog, I was really skeptical when we first got a rooftop tent, but it's honestly been the purchase that has made the biggest single impact on making us feel comfortable which has, in turn, made us want to get out and go camping more.

    First up, what's up KESTER...not a common last name. I'm out of NH....great review, I'm going for the gen 3 and will be looking to house the dog in the ground floor, running a 2020 Gladiator.

    • @MattKester
      @MattKester  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greetings! I think you’re only about the third Kester I’ve ever run into who wasn’t an immediate relative. I’m sure you’ll love the tent on the Gladiator, should be a little easier to throw the dog in too, if you wanna go that route, with it mounted off a set of bed rails.

    I also have a pithull I was thinking maybe a light aluminum ramp.

    • @MattKester
      @MattKester  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would have to be a pretty long ramp to get the angle down. Even at a 45 degree angle, it would need about 8-10 feet in length, assuming your tent is 6 feet off the ground. That’s a lot of ramp to have to carry.

    • @MattKester
      @MattKester  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, with pups that big, you’re probably better staying on the ground in something like a gazelle, shiftpod, or oztent. We ended up selling ours after two years just because of what a pain in the ass it had become.

    what happened to your dogs ears

    • @MattKester
      @MattKester  4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Hey, thanks for asking. She’s a rescue pitbull. Whoever had her previously had cropped them, either because they were getting ready to do something they shouldn’t be doing, or just wanted to make her look mean. I whole heartedly disapprove of ear cropping. I think it’s barbaric and it sucks for her, because she had to endure the pain then, and now lacks a vital way to communicate with other dogs and it makes her much more susceptible to ear infections and allergies. It’s sad, because I think it’s one of the things that helps to reinforce stereotypes about the breed, when she is literally the most loving creature I have ever known.
