I applied for my GMRS license at about 7:30 am on May 1st, 2024 and in less than 24 hours at 2:35am on May 2nd I get an email stating that it was approved, and a call sign assigned, Just printed out the PDF file. License in hand! This vid made it easy to get where I needed to be on the website to do it.

I just applied for the GMRS license made it all the way through only had to pay $35 dollars thanks to your video! All I have to do now is wait for the call sign to show up.
been waiting for 5 days now. How long did it take for your's to show up? Also, the site at 5:32 looks a little different now compared to the video, can you tell me how to confirm where the call sign shows up now? I couldn't seem to find the page he is on...
Yep, I just went to the FCC website, then paid the $35.00, and got my license about 24 hours later.
Did they send it to your email?

Check your email and your junk email too because sometimes it could end up in the junk folder.@@revistytrains

Great video, thanks! It truly is a HORRID website, unbelievable. How long does it take to get? I just followed your instructions, paid for the license, got a receipt but no confirmation email.
Just a heads up for anyone who can't find data when clicking on the "ULS Pay Fees" hyperlink @4:12 If you click FRN Financial hyperlink it will take you to the same thing and you can complete your payment that way as well.

A "Newby Newbert" taking the first steps here. Radio ordered yesterday, then started the license process. Unfortunately the folks at FCC seem to be having a host of website issues. Two attempts of waiting for the spinning wheel of death at step 5, moving to step 6, and then being timed out and kicked out of the page. The third attempt, I made it all the way to step 6 and then got the spinning wheel when I tried to proceed to CORES to pay and sure enough, there were now three new license applications that I could choose to pay. I chose the most recent application and paid it. I went back in a few minutes later and viewed the "My Applications" tab and deleted the other two. Hopefully all goes well. I did manage to get an FFC Tech Support person on the phone while waiting for the third spinning wheel. I also had a rock paperweight sitting on my desk. I will let anyone reading this guess which one was more helpful. (Hint: Patience can be invaluable during this process.) 😉
Hey Dan! Glad you got something outta the wheel, sorry the FCC is having issues. I've seen a lot of people in the GMRS forums talking about it over the last few days. Hopefully they get if fixed soon, but judging by how the website operates when it's actually "working," I unfortunately wouldn't hold my breath.

Got mine with no real issues. Just went to the website, filled out the document, paid the fee-$35 and got my license in a few days.
Impossible to navigate that website without guidance. Even so, the website was so slow and full of error messages. it took over an hour to complete but it was completed. thanks so much.

I applied for gmrs(ZA)and did the following in this Video but once i got to pay it is an empty box and there isnt anything to pay for at the moment. it also says it has been submitted but not initially processed by fcc, therfore i think it wont let me pay yet for that reason. Little more of a process then getting it done all at once the same day in my case.
FYI-even though the SSN section does not have a required * next to it. It appears you cannot proceed further without entering your SSN or reason why you might not have one? Thanks for the information.
I already have my GMRS license but how do you renew it when it expires???? Do they send you a reminder by email????
It took a whole lot of effort, but this tutorial helped out very very much. Thank you. These bastards at the FCC could make this a whole lot easier if they so chose to do so.😠(but you’re awesome,man!!😎👊)
how do you know when to check for when your call sign is available ? i cant figure it out
how long does it take to get a conformation page? Hours, days, weeks? after completing it just stops "no info"
maybe i'm dumb but i cant figure out which screen you're on to see your pending license/call sign at the end. and the FCC site is a convoluted mess which makes it more difficult. any chance you can clarify how you got there to check on your pending license?

Why am I told I have to take a test? I have an frn # I log in and there are 6 promps but no core
So my frn number and password won’t log me into for the application. Is there a lag time or something?

Everything went great up to the payment page it won't let me select payment method I assume where you enter your payer FRN that would be the FRN number they gave you. When I put my cursor over the Continue icon for credit/debt payment all I get is a circle with the line through it, it wont let me click on the icon to finish payment. But then it wont let me make a payment any other way no matter where I point my cursor to try to click I get the circle with the line through it... been working on this for better than an hour to get to the page where I can make my payment.... so frustrating!!!
Went back in on another computer to try but same deal.... It's like they turned off the continue buttons to make payments.....
Getting a license should be a drinking game, it would have helped. My FRN was from more than 30+ years ago....with the associated e-mail and PW that I have absolutely no idea what they were after all these years. Your video pulled me out of a hole! I came across it after watching your Wouxun KG-905G review. Subscribing! You are a good teacher...! And ordering a KG-905G.
Twice I have gotten all the way to select how to pay & none of the icons work. Any ideas?
I had to keep trying, The website is terrible and super buggy. I ended up paying but got no confirmation. Will see what happens. Try changing browsers as well. I was using Safari but had to change to FireFox. **Update, I just got my callsign. Took 4 days including weekend! Thank you
is it normal for it to not process your payment for maybe a day or two? Mine still hasn't gone through and is a bit strange.
It’s been known to happen. I actually had two call signs at one point because my payment m hadn’t gone through a day later and I went through the entire process again. I’d say give it a couple of days and if you still don’t have anything, try it again.

I am curious what the % of people who actually get caught using GMRS or ham for years without a license. And if so they throw you in federal prison? As if the country doesn't have far more important issues to deal with 😅but I digress.

Well I can tell that you won’t get away with using ham radio frequencies without a license and doing so will indeed get you caught if you do it enough as we have volunteer monitors who will triangulate your position and report you. Gmrs, not so much.

@@cantaffordtodie Well seems people I've asked say nobody they know has gotten caught not saying they'd promote it but I figured as much. Especially now with far worse things to worry about but I digress.
At the four minute 12 second mark I may have found an error. It is where you go to the next step and actually pay for your application. The instructions say to go to the ULS but I couldn't past that so I called the FCC's phone number and the nice person, seriously she was very nice, said that that was incorrect you actually need to go to the FRN financial choice. There you get to the actual bill point.

I received several errors during the process. I had to log out and back in 3 or 4 times. Took atleast an hour. Got payment screen. Now wait and see.

Microsoft Browser will not work
I called the 1-800 number and spoke to the representative and she explained that the Microsoft Browser wouldn't let me make payment for some reason.
Good call, I was not aware of that! I'm trying to remember if it let me submit payment through Safari, as I'm a lowly Mac user.

You can, although its only something that really is done with repeaters when they give out their identifier at a regular interval.

You now have to include your SS# or claim an exception from a drop box of 4 reasons why not to include....GRRRR!

What gmrs radio approved by fcc?
Look for a Part 95 certification on any radio that you might purchase. You can also check the FCC’s website for a particular radio’s certifications, but that’s an exercise in futility with how user friendly it isn’t.

you have to broadcast your callsign every 10 minutes your on air with gmrs giving everyone your address, name, age, previous addresses as bad as amateur radio just put an ad in the paper free radios here rob me, FCC could keep that info private, Stupid.
Agreed, it’s quite irritating. I utilize a PO or private mailbox address to give me a little bit of insulation.
Why is everyone concerned with giving their address? Your neighbors know where you live. Our address is in all sorts of databases. If someone wanted to be malicious they could follow you home. Jeck you can go to Google maps and see every address in the country, and?
You're better off to use PLAIN LANGUAGE so that you sound reasonably intelligent on the air. No CB talk, please.
