please research these ingredients on your own to ensure they are anti inflammatory for your body as everyone’s body reacts differently to certain ingredients regardless if research says otherwise.
Anti-inflammatory ingredients included in this dish are: Shallots, garlic, sundried tomatoes, butter beans, harissa, coconut milk/soy milk, red pepper flakes, shredded kale.
Research Resources:
Kale contains phytochemicals, sulfur-containing indolic glucosinolates, and aliphatic glucosinolates that have demonstrated anti-inflammatory activity (bit.ly/3UzDfFJ)
Shallots are... rich in plant compounds with high antioxidant activity, which helps reduce inflammation and prevent oxidative stress (bit.ly/3UB62cO)
Beans have several antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds and are a good source of fiber, protein, folic acid, and minerals such as magnesium, iron, zinc, and potassium. (bit.ly/3xSL7JE)
Harissa & Red Pepper Flakes: spicy chili peppers contain something called capsaicin, which acts as an anti-inflammatory

Hi friendss! I hope you loved this video. As a way to support me, please try not to skip the ads - if you can. It is how TH-cam compensates me for sharing my recipes❤. Also please research these ingredients on your own to ensure they are anti inflammatory for your body as everyone’s body reacts differently to certain ingredients regardless if research says otherwise. If you are sensitive to tomatoes, feel free to use a substitute of your choice.
I did make it the same day your video came out! I'm going to make it on rotation! I used not-beef bouillon and coconut milk. I put it over some kalamata olive sourdough.
Watching while working out or cleaning the kitchen helps me not skip ads. We're here to support. Miss u in the DMV!!!! Happy Sunday!!!!
Didn't know about the ads. Thanks for informing us!

I made this tonight and it was a hit! I had to substitute the harissa sauce for Better than Bouillon Smoky Chipotle 😋
Thank you 😊
MA’AM!!!!!! I’m speechless. Let me start with the FACT that I don’t eat beans PERIODT, UNTIL I made this dish. I’m on a healthy journey and anti-inflammatory is what caught my attention.
I could only find the spicy harissa in my local grocery store and I could only find the curly kale. So I made it with what I had. I will serve it with Naan bread slightly toasted.
SHOUTING….THANK YOU for sharing this recipe.
It’s sooooo good😋😋
Deeelicious x
I actually think it's more economical to just use less spicy harissa vs the mild at the same price.
What milk did u use? Thanks
It looks good 5-27-2024❤
I just made this for dinner and was not prepared for how tasty and bold the flavors were! Full disclosure: I burnt the shallots and garlic 😂but I'm so in love with this recipe. Thank you ♥
Four things:
1 where have you been all my life?!!
2 harissa is spiceeeeeeeey!
3 this is the perfect meal after a day of wine tasting! I followed your recipe to the "tee" but added some farmer markets faves (peas, bell pepper, and roma tomatoes) just a little...
4 the way my man just ate this up dancing in silence with his eyes closed and then went to bed 😂
Thank you so much for sharing 💝 what a beautiful gift you are!
Two more edits based on what i could find... great northern beans and unsweetened coconut cream. I could've used more cream tho bc that harissa baybeee! 😋
I finally made the dish after traveling to several stores to purchase the Harissa, no butter beans. I had two cans of chickpeas,I used them instead. I used cashew milk in place of soy milk. I added a little ginger, smoked chili salt, and 365 organic Italian blend cheese. SOOOOO GOOD!
I've made this twice! Love this recipe so much. I eat mine with rosemary sourdough bread. * chefs kiss*
Yes!!! Rosemary sourdough bread just fires on all cylinders. Sooo delicious
Just made it today, and I agree. After the chopping the meal comes together really quick. One pot! 🙌🏾
Made that bread this past Friday! So good!
Rosemary sourdugh bread? Ohhh! I'm going to use this bread next time. Thanks!
That sounds delish! I had it with raisin pecan sourdough. I made mine with canned coconut milk, and garnished with cilantro and spring onion.
…anti-inflammatory meals are perfect for people with diseases like Multiple Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, et.al. Thank you for posting this; we all need more nutritional yeast!
Currently on a fast and torturing myself by watching this video - can't wait to make it.
I feel this comment in my soul (and stomach hahah)! I don't know why but I seem to watch more food and recipe videos when I'm fasting. It's weird and can be absolutely torturous but it seems to help me make healthier food choices when I break my fast so I endure the torture from myself 😂
I made some adjustments based on the ingredients I had at home. Instead of using milk, I used a whole can of unsweetened coconut milk and added 1/2 cup of water to thin it out. Since I didn’t have vegetable broth, I added a quarter cup of water and a bay leaf. To thicken the sauce, I mixed a tablespoon of coconut flour with half a cup of water and added it to the pan. Instead of using jarred harissa, I usually buy freshly made Harissa from my local Middle Eastern market for its better taste, but it has slightly more heat so adjust to tolerance. I served the dish with sourdough bread and naan, which I bought from my local Costco, and both were delicious. The meal turned out perfectly. Thank you!
Lady, this popped up based on my algorithems...YESSSS TO ALL OF IT! I will try this recipe. Thanks for sharing.
How ere you loterally reading my mind Sis! I am on the border for the Diabeetus and saw a nutritionist who told me to eat way more fiber no red meat and such. I love one pot meals and every single ingredient in this recipe.
So glad you are taking control of your health!
Not the diabeetus lolol
😅@@jessicaboutte42
Red meat is bad for diabetes? How does that track?
Btw I was vegetarian for years, just wondering if there is some biased thinking there.
@@sun-shipi don't think so, because my numbers are bad due to various other health issues. My Dr asked about me eating meat due to certain vitamins. I'm sure it's different for individuals, but in general it's not an issue.
I made this tonight and have to say that this is the best vegetarian dish I’ve ever made or enjoyed in my life, no joke! Thank you Shakayla, so much, you have made my night and there’s leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Anti inflammatory meals are so important for my health so please show a few more of these recipes soon. God bless you and your family!❤
I saw this and immediately HAD to make it, but I didn’t have harissa sauce, kale, or sun dried tomatoes so I improvised using a mix of tomato paste, smoked paprika, Ajika Georgian season from Trader Joe’s, lemon juice and red pepper flakes for the harissa, over dried cherry tomatoes for the sun dried tomatoes, and frozen spinach for the kale. It’s absolute delicious!! I’m eating it with mushroom kabobs and crusty bread 😋
I just found harissa at Shwarma restaurant & Trader Joe’s.
I can’t wait to use them.
I also wanted to say I love a quick and easy recipe that doesn't cheat on the flavor!!
Yasss! That’s exactly what this is
This meal looks SO YUMMY!! I’m a big fan of butterbeans and grow my own in my garden. Unfortunately, I have chronic auto-inflammatory illness and nightshades are major triggers. This means I can’t use the harissa, tomatoes or red pepper flakes included in the recipe. I’m so glad we’ve all learned about substitutions. Hoorah!! This is one I’ll be enjoying, at least my version of it.
Please share your substitutions for nightshades, I'm always looking for alternatives since tomato sauce tends to give me problems.
@@Fudgeey I replace tomatoes with a mix of cooked carrots, beets, garlic, onion and salt/pepper and apple cider vinegar. Experiment to get it to your liking. Everyone’s tastebuds are a bit different. I make a batch of mine every month or so and store it in mason jars in my refrigerator or freezer. It’s easy to scale and then season for the dish I’m making. In place of peppers, I add heat with oregano, white pepper and such. Search the internet for published spice mixes for chili, bbq rubs, garam masala, curries, etc that exclude nightshades. For potatoes, I generally substitute with cauliflower or turnips, which are both higher in nutrition. That’s a very good thing. Eggplants are hard to substitute, but I’ve successfully used zucchini in a fair number of eggplant dishes. I hope this helps.
I have issues with nightshades, as well. Please share your substitutions. Much appreciated!!
@roadtriplover. Indeed, same here.
I cook carrots, beets, onion, garlic, salt, pepper and apple cider vinegar to replace tomatoes. This sounds strange, but it really does work very well. There is a company that makes “Nomato” sauce that is essentially the same thing. For Italian, Mexican, African, etc. the spices can be switched to fit. I make batches for storage in mason jars and in the freezer. For spicey foods that might normally include peppers/chilis, I include other heat inducing spices like oregano, white pepper, garlic and ginger. You can also goole for nightshade free spice mixes. I have curries, garam masala, chili and bbq spice mixes that are wonderful, all found on the internet. For potatoes, I use turnips, cauliflower or parsnips. Eggplant is the hard nightshade to replace, honestly.
I made this recipe and OMG!!! It is soooooo delicious! My granddaughter came to visit and she’s a vegetarian and fell in love with this recipe!
Thank you! For showing this special dish….we in the Middle East make this dish as an appetizer and for some a meal in itself. This is an excellent source of nutrients
They do not you you live in Michigan or something
Vegan grannie here, I saw this and said: “Oh Yeah! we are doing THIS!” Wow that looks GOOD! And not a bunch of fattening oily ingredients…Perfect! Thank You So Much!
This dish is 🔥🔥🔥. My husband couldn’t stop eating it and he’s not even a big bread fan. I can see why you can’t stop making it. This will be added to my list of go tos along with some of your other amazing recipes!! Thank you!!!
I made this last night and had it again today for lunch. OMG, if you have not made this dish, you should rush out to buy the ingredients and make this dish. I used 3 cans of beans, sundried tomato without the oil, and rough kale from Publix in a bag. I also sauteed my shallots, minced garlic, and onions in harissa oil that I picked up from the Fort Pierce Farmer's Market in February, and I had nutritional yeast in the fridge but forgot to use it. I also used coconut milk for added flavor. I eat it with a croissant, which I think I'd prefer sourdough bread when I make it again. THIS DISH IS ALL THAT. It tasted better today after it sat overnight.
Peace and blessings sister, I just made this dish in my 18 wheeler!
This is fire!!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Please keep it coming
So… I just made this for dinner and I only have one question. Is it possible to subscribe to your channel twice?! It was off the chain! It was so good, I actually came back to your video so I could comment on how good it was!! This is a new menu staple in my household!
Not sure how you made to my algorithm but I’m glad you came
Same! 💝
I cannot wait to make this👏🏾 I almost drooled when I saw the Short earlier this Week🤭
Hello there!
Please note that Nutritional Yeast that has B-12 listed on the packaging has been enriched with synthetic vitamins.
B-12 is not naturally formed in NY.
It’s better to purchase and consume a non-fortified version of NY.
I hope that this helps.
Good to know. Thank you 👌
You're right. If I remember correctly, B-12 only comes naturally in red meat. That's why most, if not all, vegans and vegetarians have to supplement B-12 since they don't eat meat. I think anyone who doesn't eat red meat must take B-12. Even those who only eat chicken, fish, or pork.
@@tashas9531 B12 is produced by bacteria. it is in animal products - their gut bacteria produce it plus many farmed animals are given B12 supplements. they also get it from manure exposure. you can also get B12 in mushrooms and seaweed. many people do not absorb it well from food - potentially up to 40% of people - and need to supplement B12 even if they eat meat/eggs/dairy. I'm vegan and my levels are good thanks to things like B12 supplemented nutritional yeast, but my mother, who eats meat, dairy, and eggs, just got told her levels are low and she had to supplement.
@@tashas9531 you know why there's an abundance of B-12 in meat? Because the cattle graze on grass and pick up the bacteria from the dirt that the grass is growing in. It's actually a bacteria in dirt. You don't need to eat animals to get B-12... just leave your veggies a bit dirty... Or use nutritional yeast or a B-12 supplement.
I JUST MADE THESE! I used a Cannellini Beans and it turned out delicious! I have never tasted anything like this before! Soooo good!
Just By The Look Of It I Already Know Its Hittin So Hard My Foodiie Intuition Does Not Fail Me This I Know 👏🏿❤️👏🏿💯
A Must Try
Homemade food is always the best and that is why I recommend it to every mom
I never would have thought of this dish on my own and can’t wait to try it! Also, you look so pretty!
I’m not vegan, made this and I absolutely loved it.
GIRL. I. MADE. THIS. TODAAAAYYYYY. BABY THIS IS GOING TO BE ALL I EAT FOR DINNER FOR THE NEXT WEEK. I truly was shocked as to how flavorful it is. I love this.
Thanks for sharing about skipping the ads...I wasn't aware, but no more skips because I love your channel!!💜💜
I’m obsessed with this recipe
Yassss! Sameee
Same. Making it again tomorrow. 😋
Oh man, is this good! My supermarket didn’t have butter beans so I substituted with cannellini beans and it was delicious. I’ll definitely be making this again. Thank you!
This lady is NOT kidding! It is good as hell!!
Hello beautiful Shakayla and I like that she calls her viewers & subscribers beautiful people. The harissa butter beans recipe looks 😋 and garlic granules/powder is an essential ingredient in every recipe i make. Love 🥰 the video and love 💝 Shakayla.
Just found you and after this recipe I am a fan for life! 🤗❤️🥰
Just made this now and WOW! 😋
Ms. Felice, I just want to say that out of all the cooking shows that I have watched and I've always had a desire to try a vegan dish trying to eat healthier these days. I have to say this particular recipe was the best, I tried it for the memorial Day holiday and my family fell in love with it, I tell you there was no more left. And I did tweak it a little bit with the sourdough but I made it into garlic bread and toasted it it was so awesomely good. Thank you for making my transitions of eating better easier. And we are going out to buy more ingredients to make more thank you again for this recipe.
Here to declare this is in FACT YUMMY!!! Make it legit from this recipe first. Using nutritional yeast instead of the substitute makes a world of difference. I love Parmesan. Keep it on hand. But nutritional yeast adds a buttery slightly sweet smokey flavor that pairs brilliantly with the Harissa sauce. 🙌🏾♥️✌🏾
Chapter46 has new ways to get in meatless protein - starting over, again! Thank you!

THESE BUTTER BEANS ARE SOOOOOOOOO GOOD!! This is my favorite plant based recipe so far!! Thank you so much for sharing!!❤❤❤
Gonna make this for dinner today today. I just finished 9 days fruit fasting and raw vegan...
I have always LOVED butter beans...even as a kid. I follow a low carb lifestyle now so this would have to be something I make as a treat meal.
I made this last night. The only modification was that I used half regular and half smoky BBQ nutritional yeast. It will now be placed on regular rotation in my meal prep. I will probably soften my kale before adding it in or use spinach instead. Other than that... so delicious!! 😋
I'm always open to try a new recipe and this one is going into my rotation. My mother is on dialysis, has many food allergies, and is a picky eater. She loved it too. Sourdough and naan were our breads.❤
made this yesterday. I didn't have soy milk so I used soy yogurt. Freeeeeaaaaaakinnnggggg delish!!!!!!!! Thank you, so much. I'll be making this again.
Thank you! Love the beans.❤ My grandmother used them in many soups. Know I have my own delicious recipe to reminisce about our times together. 😊 Keep your style going, you're pleasant to watch and listen to. Not overstyled. With lightness and fun!🤗🎉
Just made this. Abolsolutely divine. Soaked and cooked dried beans as I didnt have cans on hand. And added small diced carrots. Didnt have kale and added bok choy.
Thank you.
HI, I've just discovered your channel tonight.... noticed the anti inflammatory in the title..I'm so pleased I found you! This dish looks absolutely delicious, I love butter beans, so I'm going to give this a try tomorrow...I'm in London & lucky enough to live in an area full of a variety of Middle Eastern, Indian & Eastern European shops so I'm always interested to try new recipes using ingredients & vegetables I can find in them. I use harrissa quite often, I find it goes with all sorts of recipes, & I've found they can be be quite different from different countries. I have arthritis now so I'm trying to lose a bit of weight, change my diet at the moment. I love my food, & I love cooking so it's not been easy, but recipes like this are really going to be great to try! I should just know better than to start watching videos of delicious food at 2am!
I just made this for dinner and it is BOMB!!! I don’t even usually leave comments but I just had to tell you Shakayla, this recipe is amazing!! Thanks so much for this recipe, it’s such a help for me on this anti inflammatory health journey! ❤❤❤
This recipe is D E L I C I O U S! I also have made it as a casserole by adding some cooked brown rice and throwing into the oven until hot a bubbly.
I made this and it was SO GOOD. Had to eye the measurements because the website wasn't working for me, but otherwise stuck to the recipe. Even my 3 kiddos loved it. Definitely going into my regular rotation!
Made this-- it is SO easy and SO good!! If you don't have butter beans, any white bean will work! I also didn't have harissa paste & wasn't about to run to the store/ don't want to add yet another hot sauce to the fridge collection, LOL. So I looked up a recipe made by someone else and just added those ingredients to the recipe. 👩🏾🍳😚👌🏽🤩
I can’t wait to make it !
Absolutely delicious! 2nd time making in 4 days. I can’t stop eating it. This time I used full fat organic coconut milk in a can, game changer. I tried to be fancy and used dried butter beans, couldn’t find any canned, used cannellini first attempt. I soaked the beans overnight then pre cooked. They cooked unevenly. Some are delightfully soft and creamy others are hard, not sure how I messed those up. I have mild harissa on the way, that spicy version is no joke! Next, I’m going to swap potatoes for the beans!
Made it tonight; didn't have kale, so used parsley. We loved it. We included sourdough bread, too.
I made this for dinner last night and it was absolutely amazing. I did not have Harissa, but I created my own based on the flavor profile described in this video. I also added okra and jalapeño for an added kick. I served it with Basmati rice and broccoli. It was a hit and the flavor profile was everything. Thank you so much for the inspiration. It will definitely be one of my go to dishes from now on. Delicious 😋
I definitely plan on making this! Maybe even today
This looks really good and I (as a van dweller) appreciate that it's only one pan. I love beans but, I don't think I've ever tried butter beans. I make a beans on toast recipe with cannellini beans and tomatoes all the time. Definitively going to try this.
Yum!!! Subscribed!
I love Harissa and I live where it's quite common to go down to the local store and be able to find it in the jar...
I’m definitely making this!!
looks so good!
You are my nieces Sista' from another Motha'. She would definitely cook this and eat it standing up against the counter top in the kitchen. Butter beans are our favorite and we make a Turkish cold side dish/salad called Piyaz. Try it out.
I just made this dish. It’s bangin!!! I’m trying to eat and cook more plant based foods and this was chef’s kiss. I didn’t add spicy red flakes cuz I have gut issues and love that the coconut milk diffuses the acid in the tomatoes.
I'm a weird one who's been making soups when it's 90 degrees! Can't wait to try this! Thank you for sharing 🫶🏼
Wow looks so good!
Making this!!!❤
This was delicious. I’m not vegan, so I use parmesan cheese instead of nutritional yeast. Collard greens instead of kale and chipotle peppers instead of sun dried tomatoes. It’s was flavorful and delicious.
Chipotles are a great idea!
That looks amazing ❤
Looks so so delicious!
Ooooh…I gotta try this asap ! 🤤🙌🏽
