My every day smoothie: Fill half of container with greens [usually spinach] and tamp down a little. Then add a cored apple, one peeled banana, 4-6 strawberries, 4-6 chunks of pineapple, and about a cup of frozen blueberries. Add store bought probiotic blueberry kefir for liquid. Mix. Drink. The amounts of fruit varies by what I have but I always use all of the fruits listed, with one of the fruits [usually blueberries], frozen. [I use a NutriBullet. If using a blender, put the fruit in first and top off with the greens.]
As a thickner and nutrients I grind raw oats into flour and keep in a mason jar. I also use a coffee grinder to grind chia and flax seed into a flour texture and store in a mason jar in fridge. You can also use your over night oats in smoothie as well
As a dietitian, I must say, Dani I LOVE your videos. They inspire me to help my clients with easy-to-digest tips! Basic cooking skills are lost these days, so thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. X
My son became a vegan awhile ago and just purchased a "super" blender and has started making his own smoothies. I sent him this video as it will be a great reference to help him produce some delicious drinks. It will also help me as I am his tester, He believes if I can drink it and not get sick it is a winner. I do hope he follows your tips and methods. :)
I love your videos Dani. My favourite smoothie combination in the morning is 1/4 of an avocado, a good handful of spinach , cucumber , chia and hemp seeds , some nice cold coconut milk or almond milk . This keeps me going almost all morning . I am going to have to get some Jay Robb whey protein . I didn't realize it was lactose free . When I need something just to cool me down , I just throw a frozen banana in my nutribullet along with some coconut milk , some cinnamon and blend it and it really tastes like I am drinking a milkshake . :)
Lemon zest, lemon juice, orange zest, fresh oranges or orange juice for flavor variety, vanilla essence, cinnamon, all spice, cloves, honey, dates, raisins, hemp seeds, moringa powder coconut milk, frozen papaya, bee pollen, nutritional yeast, pumpkin seeds, vanilla essence, sun flower seeds, almonds, black seeds( anti inflammatory, very pungent, tiny amount or else you will ruin your smoothie) sesame seeds or tahini, flax seeds are some of the ingredients I add in different amounts and combinations. Thank you Dani for sharing your great smoothie ideas.
Can I please just tell you that I love you and your channel. I haven't came across a video that wasn't easy and so delicious. Thank you so much and you explain everything so well. Thank you so much for your hard work.
I love your channel...thank you. I take a couple of avocados...peel and put them in my small processor with a bit of fresh lemon juice...(to prevent browning) and process until smooth...then spoon dollops of creamed mixture onto parchment lined tray or cookie sheet and freeze. Place in zip lock bag or airtight container to pop into your smoothies whenever you wish. I enjoy the creaminess it lends to a smoothie better than banana. I am diabetic and watch the sweetness factor closely. The healthy fat is a great addition!
Thank you for the video. I've totally been putting the ingredients in the blender in the wrong order.... super helpful. My smoothie was much better today.
Inspired, I just had one made of - Skim milk, Almond Dutch Chocolate Milk, an inch length of banana, an inch of avocado, strawberry, small handful of blueberries, baby kale leaves and baby spinach leaves. I'll be doing this after gym workouts.
Thanks a lot Dani. Though it's 9 yrs ago, this video is on time! You have really encouraged me to get back to making and drinking smoothies! Thanks a lot!
I just stumbled onto coconut yogurt (actual coconut made with probiotics). I was never into a green smoothie but once I tried it with the coconut yogurt and cinnamon, I'm never looking back! Add some flaxseeds and it's my fave.
It's a very good guide! Greek style, natural, full fat yogurt (low fat if you prefer; can be used as a thickener/liquid) and flax seeds (grind into flax meal in a processor and keep it in the freezer) are the only things I would add to this list. Yogurt will give you the added benefits of good bacteria, and flax seeds for all the good fats.
Hi Dani- as a man in my 40s on bp meds & cholesterol meds I find your recipes not only tasty but easy to follow which makes a life change much easier. Thank you for taking your time to post these videos. checking out the C&D website today!
Other's may have mentioned it but you can add a teaspoon or 2 of chia seeds as a thickener. I use banana and add fat free plain greek yogurt and a tablespoon or 2 of hemp seeds for some extra body and nutrition. Some people add a small amount of agave syrup too as a natural sweetener. I stick with a single date.
You are truly my new favorite "vlogger" ! Thank you soooo much for this and your other videos! My absolute favorite smoothie is my pineapple carrot spice smoothie...I use 1/2-3/4 cup almond milk (just eyeball it, depends on end result), 1/2 cup chobani plain nonfat greek yogurt (a good thickener in place of banana), 1/4 cup shredded carrots (or I just throw in a few sticks from my crudite), 1/2 cup frozen pineapple, a pinch of ground ginger, pinch of cinnamon (both spices to personal taste of course) and finish with a squeeze of honey for extra sweetener then blend. It's sooooooo yummy and tastes like a pineapple carrot cake! Try it out! :) Thanks again Dani! I've learned so much!
Being new to smoothies I'm happy to say after watching this, I'm doing pretty good :) my favorite is, chilled black coffee with frozen raspberries homemade peanut butter cinnamon honey and protein powder. Taste like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Thanks so much for this basic info. Just what I needed. I am a perfectionist and tend to think that I need to learn everything and get it just right. That leads to "analysis paralysis". I also want it to taste good!! Also love all the suggestions from other comments!
Absolutely fantastic guide! Thank you for your help because I always wanted to start making smoothies but do not know what to put in it! I'll try later Great video!!
Dani youre amazing i did one of your videos (chocolate yogurt cheesecake) for a healthy class project everyone one had their mouth watering thanks to you!!!!!!
I love your videos because you are just your self and down to business while making your videos. And no trying to impress anybody. Thanks for sharing your healthy delicious tips with us :).
What a WONDERFUL AND HELPFUL VIDEO! THANK YOU! I have never considered using frozen greens in a smoothie before, so I am super grateful for that tip. As an option to thicken a smoothie, I put almond milk in a blender on high, then drizzle in a tablespoon or two of coconut oil. Thank you again for imparting such excellent information! Cheers!
saw this video a couple weeks ago started off simple maybe some blueberries a bannana ice and milk but now im freezing my own fruit and adding dark leafy greens to my smoothies and i got to tell you its so much better. thank you dani your videos are great
Dani you're always so much fun to watch and learn from! i had some fresh kiwi that i needed to use,, so added 1 whole gala apple,, 1 whole orange, 1T flax, almond milk and water, and viola, a delish smoothie! my fridge/freezer isnt working correctly, so can freeze anything but small bags of mango, b'berries that i'll add 2 smoothies! cant eat any dark green products, so try to use cucumbers, roman, and or avocado, and frozen bananas when i can! thx:): kelli
Thank God I finally found you! by far your videos is the best and very educated thank you ever so much. I promise myself to live a healthy life style and loosing weights. I love smoothies so refreshing and healthy!
Thanks for the great video! Just a thought to share. I recently found a way to get some protein into my smoothies without using protein powder. Try adding tofu or black beans. They are good sources of protein but do not add much flavor, which makes them perfect to sneak in some protein.
I love using Tera's Whey organic dark chocolate protein powder, frozen bananas, cocoa powder, PB2 (peanut butter with the oil removed) and any type of milk I have on hand. Sometimes I add a bit of unsweeted coconut flakes + walnuts on top. It's my go to when I'm hungry and want something sweet.
I do a green smoothie every morning, usually spinach (lots!) or kale, chia seeds, hemp seeds, coconut water, goji berries, cucumber, tomato, and I sometimes replace some items with other stuff to mix it up. Also, a high speed blender helps make the smoothies super creamy, I used to have a ninja and it just didnt get it done, very grainy. Then I bought a vitamix and fell in love.
Hey Dani your channel is really inspiring me to change my nutritional habits. Straightforward videos, complete and clear information, keep up with the good work!
I just came across your TH-cam channel! I love your videos so much! You should be a teacher..you make everything so simple. I'm currently cooking garlic cloves thanks to the first video I ever watched! :) I use yogurt in my smoothies, flaxseeds,& spanich :)
Hi Dani, thanks for the video! I'm def a smoothie lover. I always add chia seeds and flax seeds to my smoothie on top of some of the great things you mentioned in the video. The chia seeds really help to thicken up my drink. Before I was introduced to chia seeds I used oats, that also gave me a really filling breakfast drink. Awesome! I've made thousands of fresh juices & smoothies and I still learned something. I wonder though if choosing 'frozen' vs. 'fresh' doesn't miss out on some healthy life energies (usually gained by 'raw' diets). Love ya!
Thanks for the tips, I've been working-out a lot more often these past few months & I've been looking to add protein to my diet that's healthier then most now u have provided that than u
I'd be interested to see you do a "what I ate in a day" video and your "formula" for what you eat in a day. I'm a new subscriber and I love your videos!
Mmmm😋...that looked GREAT! THANK YOU for the EXTRAS...tips to make a CLEANER rich Smoothie! I learn every time from your tips!😉👏 I do prepare the rolled oats then add a tablespoon too.🌸
I just bought a mixer... Cannot wait to start making healthy smoothies 😀♥️ Do you know which ingredients would be best for my arthritis? Inflammation? Thanks for your help!! Love your channel!!!
Ca tombe bien! (Good timing!) I actually made two smoothies this week in the blender here in France. This "drink" has never appealed to me. But ... I used ... a little goat milk (I will not eat soy in any form), a touch of organic honey, a very small Martinique banana (I hate bananas), a touch of cassis jelly, an apricot, fresh, pitted, two raw quail eggs (I take these raw sometimes to purify) and a dab of whole fat plain yogurt. A little bit of fresh mint. Would have added an ice cube but it was fine. Pleasant surprise. Cool clip, uprated.
I steep herbal and green teas in big batches and keep them cold in the fridge as (no sugar added) iced tea , and often use them in a smoothie. Just a little tip for those who prefer to use fruit juice in smoothies. - a fruity herbal flavor tea is a good alternative for you :)
When I was in college, I tried the fruit smoothies. They were too sweet for me. My favorite kind of smoothie on the campus was peanut-butter-banana-soy smoothie. It had a nice creamy consistency and mild sweet taste, but not too sweet. I remember that the only ingredients were fresh bananas, soy milk, a scoop of peanut butter, and some ice cubes. My favorite. I currently have soybeans and a soymilk maker at home, so I can make soymilk at home. Making soymilk at home also means I can use the soybean pulp from the soymilk production for other recipes. I currently have peanut butter too. But I don't have any bananas. Though, I do have frozen fruits bought at the Dollar Tree. I just want to check them out. I see you buy a lot of things at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods Market. They tend to be on the pricey end of thing, but the high price for the goods means that you can spend more money for relatively the same quality that you can spend elsewhere. So, in a sense, it makes you think that you are buying more food, even though you are really buying less food at a higher price. Great for weight loss, though! If more people use their $10 bill to buy vegetables and brown rice at Whole Foods Market instead of eating out at a restaurant, then they can easily consume less calories, 'cuz you can't buy much with $10 at WFM. :-D
Thank you so much! This is really informative! You are amazing, Dani. I love watching your videos and feed my family healthy food :) I have one thing that always confuse me. I've always been told that only cutting veggies before you eat/cook, so the nutrition remain. But I've seen so many people prepare their greens/salad beforehand and store them in plastic bags or glass jars. Do we still get all the nutrition by doing so? What's your opinion and suggestion?
I love your channel and you’ve got great presentation skills. Frozen cubed avocado is another thing you can use to thicken the smoothie. Just in case fresh avocado is too expensive or not around. Frozen cubed avocado is easy to find next to frozen fruit at the store :)
I slice lemons and limes into thin wedges and freeze them. Then I add a wedge to the smoothie, rind and all, to give it a nice citrus edge. Just one thin wedge does it!
A tip that I would like to share is that you want to blend first your liquid and leafy greens first. Once that's all blended then add the rest of your ingrediants. The reason for this is that it will make your smoothie more creamy and less chunky with out "warming" it up. I use a vitamix and the longer I have it running (to make sure it's all smooth) the warmer the frozen fruits get and I like my smoothie super thick and cold :) Adding half an apple is also a good replacement for the banana.
Hey dani i have been using aloe vera juice as my liquid in my smoothies any thoughts on this? I only use about a cup because i find the flavor is really strong.
what is your opinion on ovaltine? i was buying but stopped until I know if it's as good for you as it says. my kids like it in their smoothies and oatmeal. just curious about the ovaltine.
My every day smoothie: Fill half of container with greens [usually spinach] and tamp down a little. If you wanna sneak in protein sources in your smoothie, i recommend hemp seeds! They are a great source of plant protein.
This was by far the most useful video on smoothie making. Thank you!

Your basic formula makes making smoothie so easy and delicious.
I love making smoothies with milk, strawberries, peanut butter, and chocolate protein powder. It's like a PB&J smoothy! So good!

Thank you for the video. I've totally been putting the ingredients in the blender in the wrong order.... super helpful. My smoothie was much better today.
A tablespoon or two of rolled oats in a smoothie adds a delicious, satisfying texture. The added whole grains help keep you full, too!
Love it!! Awesome tip:) Thanks for sharing!!
Papaya can use to thicken
I use greek yogurt, either plain or vanilla, for thickening and protein. Thank you for sharing and all the great information.
Inspired, I just had one made of -
Skim milk, Almond Dutch Chocolate Milk, an inch length of banana, an inch of avocado, strawberry, small handful of blueberries, baby kale leaves and baby spinach leaves.
I'll be doing this after gym workouts.
Thanks a lot Dani.

sounds delish. I use a high speed blender from revile that i love - but i've heard great things about the vitamix.
A quarter scoop of protein? Is this right?

Im so excited for my smoothie tomorrow! :)
I would soak the oats in the milk while I prepped all of the other ingredients then I would blend away.
Hope this helps :)
Dani! This is one of your bests!
You've change my way to drink smoothies, thanks a lot 😁✨❤️
Josue Andree Ramirez Hernandez love it
Vanilla protein powder, honey, blueberries, banana and skim milk! So yummy!
I love using greek yogurt as a thickener and a good quality Stevie powder to sweeten (it takes less than 1/16th of a tsp). I also love kiwi in smoothies. They add an almost effervescent quality.
+shy Bunny ;)

enjoy!
I just use the triple berry mix /banana r apple and for protein I use Bodykey by Nutrilite...Iv been using it since 2007/2008..
Love this. Will keep in my arsenal. Thanks for your wonderful videos!!!
You forgot the herbs and/or nuts/seeds. Like ginger, cinnamon, tumeric, or flax/Chia seeds. 👍😎💙

This smoothie looks absolutely delicious. I'm a diabetic can I utilize all of these ingredients?
Do you have like a list of your favourite combinations? Just something like "banana+kale+ etc" ,something I could print out? Thank you
I have made red apple watermelon banana and milk smoothie this week thats really good with no veggies at all
I like to use different teas (cold!) instead of milk or normal water :) It adds a very special taste to it depending on which tea you choose :)
just got a vitamix. this info is very helpful.
I would love to learn more about protein powders!
+Erin Johnson Yes, I would like to get a video out on protein powders :)
Clean & Delicious awesome idea. I will be looking out for that video. Need to know what's up with protein powder.
You're so smart ! I like the idea of using the avocado instead of banana ...
me too:)
Hi , thanks for a wonderful master receipe . I have a question can this be made n consumed in couple of hours 2 - 3 Hours?
I love your channel and you’ve got great presentation skills.
Frozen cubed avocado is another thing you can use to thicken the smoothie. Just in case fresh avocado is too expensive or not around. Frozen cubed avocado is easy to find next to frozen fruit at the store :)
Hi yoghurt also thickens smoothies
Yes, and adds protein also.
In my opinion too.Agreed.
You just have to really watch the sugar content on yogurt though
This the helpful video I ever seen thank you so much.
:)
Chia seeds also make smoothies creamy. If i am out of frozen mango i usually add a little more chia seeds and that does the trick!
good trick! Tanks for sharing:)
I like using unflavored greek yogurt to thicken it up and make it creamier, also adds a lot of natural protein and a sort of tart flavor!
yum!
I slice lemons and limes into thin wedges and freeze them. Then I add a wedge to the smoothie, rind and all, to give it a nice citrus edge. Just one thin wedge does it!
I love using oats or chia seeds as thickeners! I also use bananas and avocados too tho.
+Darcie Heffell yum!
Very well explained, thank you 🤗
A tip that I would like to share is that you want to blend first your liquid and leafy greens first. Once that's all blended then add the rest of your ingrediants. The reason for this is that it will make your smoothie more creamy and less chunky with out "warming" it up. I use a vitamix and the longer I have it running (to make sure it's all smooth) the warmer the frozen fruits get and I like my smoothie super thick and cold :)
Adding half an apple is also a good replacement for the banana.
great tip!! Thanks for sharing.
