    It's not a sandblast finish, it's a distressed/aged finish...the other versions that come on nylon straps (SRPG33,35 etc) have a sandblast finish.

      Thank you, I've pinned your comment as it definitely answers my question. I think I ended up convinced it was supposed be sand-blasted as the close-up pictures on Seiko's official sites show a much smoother finish for the SRPG39 and nothing like mine. However it does seem some retailers are describing it like yourself. Thanks again.

    Someone has already commented on the watch's distressed finish, which is intentional and different from bead-blasting. I love it (I have this watch) - it is supposed to make the watch look used and vintage, and works with everything else to create a vintage/retro look - the 70s-looking leather pattern of the strap, the distressed case, the colour/texture of the face, and the gilt hour markers all combine to create a vintage feel. It's all very thoughtfully designed, very intentional. Also quite unusual, not just another generic-looking watch.

    Hi MW. I just bought exactly the same model a week ago here in Singapore. My first time to wear Seiko watch and I like it. My late father used to owned Seiko 5’s in the 70s and it’s still running. I think it’s worth for the money, look nice on my wrist and it suits for daily use. Thanks for uploading your review on this watch.

    I received one of these for my birthday (my first Seiko 5) and I like it. No visible flaws. The blue dial looks black most of the time, though, unless you're in very bright light. Also, the power reserve doesn't seem to be 41 hours, but only about 24-36 (maybe I need to wear it more often, and for a longer duration). Pretty accurate too; I reset it to the exact time once a week or so. Good review.

    • @thewatchmonster1393
      @thewatchmonster1393  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for commenting and am pleased you're enjoying the watch. The power reserve will probably depend on whether you're hand winding it to maximum or not. If it's only getting wound by your movements when wearing it then it's likely the reserve power won't last as long. Thanks again, I'll have another video up soon.

    • @joeskeptical4762
      @joeskeptical4762 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      My experience: fully wound Seiko movements run past power reserve. My 6R15A rated 50 hours runs 55 with a full wind. My 4R36 (don't know the letter) rated 42 hrs lasts 46. My 7S26C rated at 40 also goes 44. Give it 400 swings, to go almost 2 full days.

    • @rajdixit1605
      @rajdixit1605 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joeskeptical4762 By 400 swings do you mean wind the crown 400 times, or shake the watch until the rotor rotates 400 times? Thanks!

    • @joeskeptical4762
      @joeskeptical4762 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Raj Dixit: *No, I don’t mean winding the crown. About 40 turns (or less for many watches) of maximum range fingers allow, will fully wind most wristwatch mainsprings. It’s always better (or much better) to use the automatic works to power up a self winding watch. Have a seat, grasp the watch with either hand, rest your elbow and swing the watch back & forth. Count each stroke forward as “1”. By 400 (or less) your timepiece will be wound to maximum tension. Watch TV or a video, maybe set a timer for 6 mins 40 seconds. You’ll be done before you know it.*

    Hi WM, I've owned this exact model for a few months now, and I love it! It's the first watch I've owned that cost me more than about $40 (or £40, since I'm a Brit who's moved to the USA). I've usually lived on a diet of Timex Expeditions, which are also field watches, but I got the urge for something different. Things that I particularly like: The lightly domed crystal adds a real visual depth to the watch; my Timex Scout's flat dial looks really boring in comparison. Also, the applied numerals have some kind of concentric milled surface which means they catch the light in sequence as you tilt the watch, which is delightful. Mine also has the distressed case finish, but it's really subtle, so it doesn't detract or look grungy. I particularly value the high-contrast, legible dial as I need to be able to read it without having to put on my reading glasses. This works perfectly in that regard: I can read it just fine even when blurry. I like the hand-windable, hackable mechanism. My unit runs a little slow, losing about a minute every four days or so. I did test that the automatic wind works, and it does: I ran it for about a week without winding it. But I feel that hand-winding keeps the spring a little more energized, which can help with that slight slow running. Like many reviewers, I find that the blue dial is usually not discernable as blue, unless you're in sunlight or something. I would have liked the blue to be a little more evident. I still have the stock strap on it, and I'm not really a fan. For one thing, it fits so snugly between the lugs that I think it applies pressure to the pins: I have twice had a pin pop out of a hole. Hopefully I won't lose the watch that way! Anyway, I am extremely pleased with this watch. I wear it every day, and I wear my Timex Expedition Scout 40 at night 'cos the Indiglo's so useful. Thanks for doing the review - it was one that I watched before buying the Seiko.

    Thanks for the closer look at the finish on this one. I was keen on the dial of this one, but happened to see the SRPG37 on sale locally and picked that up (with the sandblast finish). I know the ...39 is supposed to look a bit 'old' by design (leather strap style, the dial treatment, and the distressed blasting) but I think I prefer the finish on the ...37

    I have the same but in grey (SRPG31). Mine is from Japan and the case is bead blasted, and looks fantastic. The finish is uniform. Not sure if the version in the video with the gold tone is meant to look more distressed intentionally. There are several available case finishes.
    Anyway, I love this watch, but I did pay 275 for it, but not complaining. Is about 10 seconds fast after a full week, so very pleased with that performance. Lume is perfect, especially camping or in a situation where it may be worn while sleeping. It is easy to read all night into the morning but not so bright so as to detract from sleep.
    I really enjoy the hardlex dome.
    Very easily goes well with various leather/nato straps…eventually there will be bracelets too.

      Thanks for the comment. Yep it seems the distressed look is intentional and so it's a mistake on my part to have expected a smoother finish. I'm glad you're enjoying the watch, this series of field watches by Seiko are proving very popular.

    " Sandblast " would be the uniform matt finish like on the black dial with NATO strap.
    My guess is this would be called " stone washed " .
    It's absolutely gorgeous, in my opinion.
    BTW, the blue/gold/leather combo reminds me of a pair of jeans....denim /copper hardwear / leather belt & boots.
