Lexus killed the GX 460 mid sized suv. The 500 is the best option out of the bulky and pricy lx 600 and the GX 460 both I. Terms of price point and specs at least you get 349 hours and the same engine in the tundra or lx 600. The GX 460 has the Tacoma engine. Turbo engine over the old V8 is a big no no. Yes you are more efficient but you lose about 2000 lbs towing. My neighbor has the old GX 470 and that thing could tow 11,000 lbs
As someone with multiple kids, I really wish the Overtrail could be optioned with a 3rd row. I get that some people don’t want the 3rd row, but that’s why it could be optional. Big families also like to off road. 😂
I don't understand why you can't get saddle brown interior on Overtrail. Saddle brown with nori green overtrail would be a nice combo. The light tan looks good with the green suede, but I can't do light seats
Lexus owners have NEVER cared about trim badging. The only badge that mattered is LEXUS. The one feature that's a miss and is a miss on many new Lexus and Toyota is the seating. Many of them are cramped in the 2nd row. It's almost like the driver is the only occupant that matters. For big vehicles, there are growing children and families with car seats and I took my kids to a recent car show and I was disappointed with the interior spacing especially for non-first row on the GX550 and LX600 and other models. This is one area where the engineers need to be way better, especially for the US market. It's the same for the new Tacoma, it's ridiculous.
wrong. lexus owners loved to show the world if they had the v8 over the v6 as it was stamped on the trunk, just like MB. you can see trim via wheels these days. lets get real.
I was lucky enough to get one a week ago. Luxury plus trim. I'm sad to say so far, I'm very disappointed. It rides pretty rough and the engine is loud and send lots of vibration into the cab. Lots of wind noise (I know it's a big box so that's to be expected) but it's pretty bad. Doesn't feel like a luxury car to me at all for $85K. It's only been 1 tank of gas but so far it's averaging 13.3 mpg, mix of City and Highway driving. Our Ram pickup truck rides 10 times smoother and gets much gas mileage. I know Lexus will have no problem selling these as fast as they can make them but I'd thought I'd get my experience out there since no one buying has a chance to test drive it for more than 20 minutes before they have to make their decision to buy, I know that's how it was for me!
Don’t feel bad. I have the sequoia limited 4x4 and that crap vibrates at lower speeds and under load. Took it to Toyota and went all the way up to corporate and they said it’s “operating as intended”. Toyota have quality control issues and will no longer stand behind their product. Smdh

You can distinguish between "trim" levels by looking at the wheels. If they have a thick sidewall is the Premium. A Low Profile will be Luxury. and the bulky tires is the Overtrail.
You answered your own "head scratcher" on the Overtrail and Overtrail+. Many customers don't want the third row limiting the cargo area. The third rows and hybrid batteries are major problems for cargo areas on other vehicles, like the Sequoia.
I have a moonroof on our 2019 Tundra 1794 that needs to fixed. $4200 at the dealer. Not sure I want to take that hit. I would highly recommend against one.
I bought the base model a couple weeks ago I'm very happy with it EXCEPT for three things. No memory seats in the Base Model, it requires you to walk up to the drivers doors to unlock all doors, and finally the lack of storage space with the third rows up.
Yeah I want the overtrail but have to have 3 rows. Not feeling the wheels and tires on the luxury and for over 80k I’d hate to have to pay even more to change wheels and tires, also not getting the off road options is unfortunate. I Think we’re buying a tx500h and thought about getting the gx550 to, but the no third row in the overtrail is making me decide if I should just save money and get something different over the luxury one. Had the overtrail had a third row, it’d be my choice.
I like it. Most 2 row suvs come with 4 cylinders and v6s seem to be reserved for 3 rows. I’d like a good 2 row suv with a v6. I hope Mazda gets that new suv right.
The lowest based price GX when pay out the door will be close to $70k dollars, so all of them should have the pull-up sunshade for all passengers including the front.
Hate is a strong word. I absolutely love the styling and feel that Toyota did a great job on this vehicle. I am just waiting for a hybrid option to see how much better the mileage can be.
You missed: 1. Third row seats don't have enough room 2. When Third row seats are up, not enough cargo room.... look at TX as an example 3. Hate the bump in the center seat 4. Toyota Sequoia has more luxury material than GX, I feel like I'm being cheated 5. KDSS should be on all trims
After seeing this car and yes, rides very nice and very smooth, I am looking now for the older GX, dealer cert, low miles, lease return. It didn't ignite me at all.
It's irritating that Lexus makes you have to buy up in order to get simple things. The Mark Levinson appears only in the Luxury or Overtrail I believe. The pano moonroof is also a garbage move. It'd be nice to add a few things to a base or premium plus without paying the crazy almost $80k range.
I hate that I cant get a 3rd row in the Overtrail trim. I have 4 kids and that is the only trim level I am interested in because KDSS is an exclusive feature. They should at least make it an option. I floated the idea of buying 3rd row seats from a base trim level and installing them and she gave me a hard no. We will have to look elsewhere instead.
I’m in the same boat but I like it a lot so I thought about buying a 3rd row seat too. Would that be possible? Did they leave the spots to screw them in? Who would sell the seats, Lexus?
@@scrappkirin2916 Youd need to replace the rear plastic cover in front of the tailgate. If you look at the photos of the back of the Overtrail and other models the Overtrail floor is flat and the others are raised to accommodate the seats. Youd need new carpet that has the proper cutouts and holes. Probably a subfloor section that goes between the seats and the rear plastic cover. A seat wiring harness to run to the main harness. Knock the blanks out of the plastic pillar covers. Probably a handful of bolts. I am sure the floorpan for the rear area has the rivnuts for the seat hardware. Highly doubt they would use different bodies just for Overtrail models.
Panoramic sunroofs are an engineering failure. We will never again buy a vehicle with a pano roof. They don't have a solid sliding interior cover, just a lame piece of fabric which lets in road noise near your ears. Lexus adds a lot of soundproofing to their vehicles so the interior is quiet and the stereo sounds good. The panoramic sunroof destroys that. Stick with the standard Toyota/Lexus moonroof models, you won't regret it!
The only thing i dont like is the gas mileage and having to run premium. Im not a huge pro earth guy and yeah I get the, who cares about gas price on a $80k suv. But 15-17-21 is horrible. Might pass on it for that reason alone.
Yep i find it more a convenience issue. I don’t want to go to the gas station so much. Toyota always waits on hybrids to push initial gas but it’s obnoxious
I have a 2017 GX that we absolutely love and I would love to buy a new one but..... The interior is not luxury. Look at the 2025 Gensis GV80 or the 2025 Buick Enclave, they nailed the interiors. This new Lexus interior looks old and plastic. Along with the new Lexus TX I would say that Lexus is leaving the luxury market. Why? I don't know but I am sad.

I don’t like the wiper showing on the back, and the 550 does not look the luxury part and has a huge price tag . Shame on Lexus making the GX look cheap, especially on the interior. This is not the SUV with the legendary V8 . They should have kept it
I was seriously thinking about buying a GX550 pretty much this weekend. Until i heard you say premium fuel!!! Noooo i am not buying a fuel hungry vehicle that also needs premium fuel.
Yeah, that’s what the poster was saying. I don’t know why you’re repeating it and of course, all models recommended because they all have the same motor.
Great great presentation as usual I heard from one of the lexus reps that owners used to remove the third row and turn it into a trail rig a practice amongst them. So lexus observed that and decided to not put third rows and also customize it with over landing third party features but ordered directly from Lexus.
Just saw a GX 550 (for the first time) in person this morning at a gas station. I am not in the market or demographic for one. I have no idea what trim level it was, but I was not at all impressed by the exterior, especially given that I am guessing that even a base model (with dealer markup) is going for $65~$70k. Take the Lexus badging off, and it could have been a Jeep Wagoneer or a Dodge something or other. Different strokes.........and all that, but (to me), unlike the GX 550, the 200 series Land Cruiser, the GX 460, and the LX 570 look "luxurious" and pleasantly distinctive. Even the new 4 cylinder Land Cruiser (which I have not seen in person), looks very plain and basic (to me) in videos.
Sad that so many people dont realize that the GX and Tundra dont share the exact same 3.4L TT V6. The defective ones are exclusively in the Tundras, manufactured in the U.S.
I don't give a crap about the number of USB ports! It's usually just me driving with my Wife, and we don't mess with USB connections while we're on the road. It needs more streamlined tail lights, but I love the GX 550.
I think that all luxury cars should offer optional badge placement and they should do it as a stick on when they give you the car. I always prefer to be anonymous.
The 3.4L V6 is total garbage. I bought a 2023 GX because of the V8 reliability and I’m glad i did. Just go search on TH-cam and you’ll see lots of people that had that engine fail due to bearings. One guy is on his third engine in 49k miles. So bring back the V8 for reliability or else they can keep it.
But can it go through 2 feet of water? I am a Land Rover owner and LOVE the ability to lift the vehicle to go through streams and-because I’m short-lower for easy entry. If it can do that, I’m in.
When I buy a new car I take the badges off. Looks classier. Took them off my lx, the rx and I’ll take them off the gx. I prefer the Lexus logo over the word Lexus spelled out. We don’t need no stinking badges.
And I like the idea people don’t need to know if I’m driving a premium plus and whatever they call them top-of-the-line I know I don’t need anybody else know as long as I know this that’s fine with me
Hi there you did a great job on the review here are the three main things that I like and here are the 4 main things that I dislike and don’t like The pros Q it’s one of the few options that you could get a body frame SUV unless you want to get the Range Rover defender 2 twin turbo six cylinder is a little bit more efficient than the V8 3 ML audio Luxury + and Overtrail + have nice features 350 4 10 speed tradition is good 1 Pride z unfortunately Lexus is getting greedy like the European auto makers: BMW, Mercedes, Peach’s, Range Roger . The mark up from the Overtail to Overtrail + is about $10,000, when you add the Ml audio 2 tow - old Vi use to get you 11,000. Ow it’s 9.900 better than the Tahoe but not truck worthy 3 gas is only slightly improved about 17 combined mpg 4 add ons on Luxury + or Overtrail + could bump the price to over $90,000 for a mid-large suc. You could with $70000 get F250 lariat
@@VCBP-415 I just saw it. It loses to the GX, but it's awesome enough. The GX is ugly af for anyone that tows something. At least they had the common decency to not cheap out and give us buttons and a screen that isn't a quarter HVAC controls. Not sure why lexus insists on that terrible screen, but I understand it cuts cost. The rest of the GX is meh tbh for the price/running cost. However, will see. Already leaning towards the new 4Runner personally. The 2400w inverter would be nice so I don't have to actually build out a battery setup in the GX plus solar. Need to see what the prices are. If it's under $60k cash... Well... I'll just go that route. Why spend $15k on interior genericism with a steering wheel nanny. Just need to make sure it can tow a trailer and C6.
I’m buying one…currently have a Subaru Ascent and only went with it because it has 8 seats. I would rather have the Overtrail+ with 7 passengers! The luxury one is awesome and I’ll end up with that one, but I like the Overtrail better. C’mon @Lexus give us bigger American families the option! 😢

The biggest miss on the Sequoia is that damn third row seat that doesn’t fold flat. Thank goodness there are GX options without the third row!
GX is my favorite SUV now. It’s on my radar of possibilities for my next one.
true fold down 3rd row seat takes up to much cargo space , the sequoia TRD pro is a over priced 3 row luxury family School bus

Buy a case of octane booster. A lot cheaper than using premium gas.

It doesn't "need" premium fuel, it is "recommended". It will run fine with normal gas.
If you do the math, it makes just about no difference per year.
Every lexus is minimum 91 octane I think

Hate the lack of colors. No orange, No red, No yellow. No wood trim ?! Will wait to see if Lexus offers it in the future
Lexus GX550 is an upgrade to the 4runner not the GX460
No
The first thing I hate is that pigtail in the back window. Only GM and Infiniti have figured out to hide it and clean it up.
The Lexus GX 550 does not need a V8. The twin turbo V6 is more than enough by the videos you made Jeff. Thanks. I would love to own one.
“Let there be light!…Only on the Luxury +!” 😂😂❤️
Sad that so many people dont realize that the GX and Tundra dont share the exact same 3.4L TT V6. The defective ones are exclusively in the Tundras, manufactured in the U.S.
And some LX models. But yea I have not heard of a single engine issue with thr GX. Not saying there isn't, but I have not heard of any.
I don't give a crap about the number of USB ports! It's usually just me driving with my Wife, and we don't mess with USB connections while we're on the road. It needs more streamlined tail lights, but I love the GX 550.
Why premium when tundra takes 87????
Tuning I believe. I’d just try to get the gx550 tuned by Toyota to the tundra specs if possible. Hah
Is tundra a turbo?
@@robschafer9995 ttv6. same engine. Tuned different.
better to get the 2010 Tundra
I think that all luxury cars should offer optional badge placement and they should do it as a stick on when they give you the car. I always prefer to be anonymous.
They need to offer an exterior shade of red, on all levels of the GX 550!!!
why premium fuel?? Can you put the regular unlead instead? it will be lot cheaper at Costco
So, I just watched the whole video and I am still waiting for a reason not to upgrade my 2023 4Runner to the GX550...
For the price it's a rip-off
@@ChrisM-dx8up Half the price of the is for the logo...
@@Kjhgr01 I have a 2018 4Runner that I absolutely love! Thinking about the new GX but the gas milage is still as bad as my 4Runner,
Are the GX550 affected by the engine failures related to the grinding debris in the engine (main bearing failure)?
Not that I have seen. Tundras and LX models only. Really the only issue iv seen reported is the hood vibrating and shaking at higher speeds.
The green is amazing colour
The 3.4L V6 is total garbage. I bought a 2023 GX because of the V8 reliability and I’m glad i did. Just go search on TH-cam and you’ll see lots of people that had that engine fail due to bearings. One guy is on his third engine in 49k miles. So bring back the V8 for reliability or else they can keep it.
The 3.4L V6 in the GX is different from the 3.4L V6 in the recalled Tundras.
Enjoy your vehicle that debuted in 2010
The 80 litre fuel tank stopped me from purchasing. I tow a 3.3ton caravan so I'd be fueling up too often
We use imperial measurements in this country. Thank you.
How about the price I'm pretty sure most people hate an entry level lightweight SUV that's 65 grand just to start
A turbocharged V-6 isn't going to have the longevity that the old V-8 had....
Only two rows of seats is a huge plus point. My wife has a three-row SUV. Don't need two.
But can it go through 2 feet of water? I am a Land Rover owner and LOVE the ability to lift the vehicle to go through streams and-because I’m short-lower for easy entry. If it can do that, I’m in.
Land Rovers are notorious for having problems. The Lexus will be bulletproof.
It can
When I buy a new car I take the badges off. Looks classier. Took them off my lx, the rx and I’ll take them off the gx. I prefer the Lexus logo over the word Lexus spelled out. We don’t need no stinking badges.
And I like the idea people don’t need to know if I’m driving a premium plus and whatever they call them top-of-the-line I know I don’t need anybody else know as long as I know this that’s fine with me
Regular gas is way too expensive in Canada let alone having to buy freaking premium gas. Will not buy this truck.
Hi there you did a great job on the review here are the three main things that I like and here are the 4 main things that I dislike and don’t like
The pros
Q it’s one of the few options that you could get a body frame SUV unless you want to get the Range Rover defender
2 twin turbo six cylinder is a little bit more efficient than the V8
3 ML audio Luxury + and Overtrail + have nice features 350
4 10 speed tradition is good
1 Pride z unfortunately Lexus is getting greedy like the European auto makers: BMW, Mercedes, Peach’s, Range Roger . The mark up from the Overtail to Overtrail + is about $10,000, when you add the Ml audio
2 tow - old Vi use to get you 11,000. Ow it’s 9.900 better than the Tahoe but not truck worthy
3 gas is only slightly improved about 17 combined mpg
4 add ons on Luxury + or Overtrail + could bump the price to over $90,000 for a mid-large suc.
You could with $70000 get F250 lariat
Only thing I hate is the screen with no buttons and the price. Still may get the redesigned 4 runner. Seems better than paying $76k cash.
That 4runner is ugly af
OK! None of those bother me, so base premium it is!
I'll stick with my 23 GX.
Smart man!
Those are just nasty and outdated looking. You should upgrade to the 550.
Man,,, thank you. very well explained
Thank you!
I personally want a grand highlander AWD hybrid with a 3” lift kit. 😂
Great job. Your videos are always informative and entertaining. We need more of that Jerry impersonations.
Oh that’s awesome I’m glad you liked that :)
So glad I decided on a 23 GX 460
Nothing is ugly and looks more outdated than it is
And the V6 goes BOOM alright!! 😂😂
I want the luxury plus.
No KDSS unless over trail, hood vibrates at 60 MPH, poor quality interior and engine issues are starting to become major!!
OHH Boy !!
Stop hating !!
Its required , and not recommended printed on the gas cap
This Luxury plus looks insane
Go with blue w/ saddle interior
I purchased a jeep comander instead. Saved tens of thousands, low ins rate.
Does it have Turbo Lag like the RX350 2021 model?
Seats look thin bolstering for long distance.
Great video ❤
Premium gas. Ughhhh deal beaker. I don’t want a hybrid either because I’ve had one and that was not a fun time.
I don’t like the panorama roof on the overtrail. I want to mount flush mount solar panels on the roof to charge my power bank.
this car is love
Can I get it lifted from the dealer??? At least 3 inch lift
You should be able to. I got a dealer lift on my 2017 4Runner so that it would be covered under warranty.
Needs captain seats, upgraded interior.. for the price looks cheap inside..
There should be more colours to choose from over the years. They’ve cut back on that. I don’t think that’s a good idea.
Red doesn’t sell, earth tones are where market has been for some time
Two main reasons:
- Not a v8 (turbos are more prone to breaking)
- Don't want all the Big Brother tech BS (also prone to breaking)
Big brother? Lmao. You're not that special... and if they did want to know everything about you, your phone has way more data.
Where is the classic white with the red interior?
I love the Lexus GX even more after this video
Why no overhead view?
