What do you like or dislike about 2024 Lexus GX 550? Have you sat in one or driven it yet, and how did that go? I LOVE it...but can see some reasons you might not. Jeff
#1 reason to hate is the misguided trim configurations. If you want exterior looks, its OT+ If you want practicality, get Luxury+ If you want both, look elsewhere. #2 reason: stupid features like cool box eating into already non existent storage space. No place to put your sunglasses btw.
As a 200 series LC owner, I love my cool box and use it regularly. And the storage does sort of suck so I was hoping the GX had extra storage in the door or something.
I have the OT and I love it. My only complaints is the ac in the back. I don't know why they made it different from the other trims. Also, there is no front storage. the cool box takes away storage. Not really a big deal. I agree about the nothing with the front outlet. Why couldn't they do more with that?
@@KrysC-TX Im thinking they left that under the cigarette lighter outlet for a reason. It looks like it can pop out and be possibly used for a switch panel for off road accessories. The location is perfect for auxiliary switches and other random stuff you would want to add there. if it does actually pop out by itself, which I think it does. Would have to see the mechanics of how that top cover (cigarette lighter) opens downwards and if there is a way of adding a switch panel or something similar without messing up the top cover opening without issues.
thinking about the overtrail option, and the overtrail plus… Just can’t wrap my head around paying that much extra for overtrail plus do you think the options are worth it?
I have the Overtrail plus. In the past I had a 5th gen 4Runner for adventures/winter driving, and a Range Rover for my comfortable luxurious road vehicle. I decided to try to find a singular SUV that gave me the ruggedness and reliability as my past 4Runners, but with modern tech and luxury like Ranger Rover. I got the reliable rugged capability that I wanted, but the interior of the GX 550 is VERY underwhelming and I'll be switching to the LX 700h when it releases. I love everything else about it!
No full panomaric sunroof’? also Lexus needs to start separating its looks from Toyota it’s crazy how it looks exactly like the Land Cruiser only just dressed up a bit more.
The GX 550 Overtrail has over 9000lb towing capacity - not 8000! This is the best all around capable off road luxury SUV from Lexus/Toyota. People - who don't off road/know there shit about it, venture into the outdoors will never understand why the Overtrail doesn't have a 3rd row and why it has a smaller moon roof. There are reasons why they made it the way they did. People who buy this GX Overtrail for what it is intended for don't give a shit about a 3rd row because they will never use it because they will have their outdoor stuff there for camping, hunting, fishing, etc. The moon roof is small because there will be most likely a prinsu roof rack or something like that on there eventually with kayaks, Pelican cases, max traxx, roof top tent, etc. Also, it is a safety thing...for those who off road having a full glass roof isn't wise due to a weak structure for roll over, rocks and boulders off the side of hills, trees falling and the list goes on. Also, weak structure for putting stuff up there on full proper roof rack. Some of the stuff people bitch about is hilarious and they should go buy a Van instead because they won't use this thing for what it's intended for. I could go off about this even more but I just realized I typed quite a lot already.
You are right the towing capacity is 9063 pounds for this grade. Sorry I got it wrong. The spec sheet that Lexus USA gave me for this specific vehicle clearly says 8000 pounds on the sheet. I just went off the sheet and I should’ve done more research. And you’re right about all of your analysis. But those are still things that people might not like about it regardless of why they are not there. I’m so glad you watched and wrote your thoughts.
Marketing Toyota lied, this thing struggled to tow 9K pounds. People are so easily fooled by numbers on a paper, don't you find it odd that Toyota miraculously says o the GX can tow 1k pounds more than it's competitors when they announced a new car...they know it can't but they'll tell you that to sell more cars.
@@Wild-Browns you watched TFL. It towed that amount. The rating is a maximum rating and it did it. Struggle or not. That's why it's rated at max tow rating....
Your ultra seating is nothing more than plastic and vinyl that’s exactly what it is. There is no leather anywhere and you’re paying a lot of money to get nothing wake up.
Thanks, Jeff, for the entertaining and interesting review as always!I really like the car and appreciate very much that you point out the good and not so good. I think your reviews are very fair and honest. And I so agree that I would be disappointed in the mpgs. I did want to know how the luxury plus comfort would feel as compared to my 2022 RX 450hl luxury version. Will I feel the same level of comfort or will it be more bouncy and jarring? And, by the way, I too am a dedicated On Cloud wearer! They are great! My favorites are the Monster and the Eclipse. Maximum cushioning all the way!
FYI called Toyota/ Lexus and they verified that premium gas is recommended, but not a must. The GX 550 cab take regular 87 octane and not have any issues, idle problems or void warranty. They seem to run ok on 87 octane, try it next time you fill up and it's a hunk cheaper.
@@heiden2413 True, but it runs super on 87 octane and my dealer even called it in to Toyota and they told the GX 550 is tuned to run on 87-91 Octane either or, its just a tad more peppy on the 91. I asked them about long time use and engine life,, they responded it wont affect it all. The dealer then revealed they fill them up with 87 Octane many times before they drive off the show room floor. If Toyota says it ok and it in writing on their website, which I saw on lexus Frequently asked questions, then it must be ok... Its not like a Corvette that will ping and idle funny if you dont put premium.
@@williamgalicia6219 them saying ok just means ecu will adjust to lower octane but won't be ideal. not worth saving extra $5 bucks a full up. won't run as efficiently on lower octane.
@@heiden2413 its still good to know, in a pinch where gas choices are limited, you have a choice and wont void warranty. It gets the same gas mileage on 87 Octane, it's not as peppy... yes it's not that much more $,, but more like, $18.00 dollars more with premium vs regular, per fill up. Took three minutes to even get to your first point, and for most things you mentioned weren’t really much to say. You spent most of the video saying how great things are on the car.
Too small, very low roof in the 2nd row seats, boot is too small, fuel tank is way to small, front seats have no leg room. And the engine could possibly fail 😂 Other than that nice looking vehicle
There is zero legroom for a middle passenger in the 2nd row. The back window wiper is bottom mounted. It should be top mounted, like the Chevy Tahoe. Storage space is ridiculous. The middle consoles cool box is the answer to a question nobody asked. Lexus using hard plastics throughout the interior is pathetic. This an adequate vehicle, not a great one.
LExus in general are very boring to me for thr insane prices they command the interiors look more on par with budge cars not True Luxury cars. All that plastic no color its just a no for me .
Those who don't tow or go off-road are much better served by another vehicle. If you are looking for a luxury mall cruiser, there are a lot better choices. Neither the interior or the exterior look that great either and moving what should be buttons (like heated seats) to the touchscreen isn't good ergonomically. It look like it could be a Hyundai Santa Fe from the back and that paint color is terrible
