The biggest difference is the color science, with the A7sIII edging it out.
So you shot your comparison with the A7iii's godawful 120p at 1080 which is soft, and used that as the benchmark against the A7siii's super sharp 4k 120p? Well that was completely pointless lol
You should change the title to 'A7iii vs A7siii at 120p'. The difference at 24p is disappointingly minimal.

Totally agree. I did a double take when I saw the A7iii footage (I own one myself) and thought no way is that the footage in 4k. It's very misleading. Using a handheld rig is enough to get decent stabilisation with the A7iii in 4K 24p if you know what you are doing.
@@Steve31000 yes and no. Ibis on A7 iii is awful, jerky and big rolling shutter not helping at all.
@@ryszardzokowski812 not true at all XD I shot an entire music video handheld with manual focus in 4k 30p with my A7III. The footage looks awesome. A friend of mine was even surprised to hear that I shot it handheld. So the IBIS is good in the A7III. The A7SIII is not so much better tbh. The only advantage it has is 10 bit color instead of 8 bit.
@@janeeightfive7331You right. I started with two A7iii and I still have those cameras, and got very impresive results, but it more depending of ability of filmmaker but less of camera. Anyway Canon and Lumix have much much better ibis, and can do much more complex shots than on A7III.

I’m looking to upgrade to the a7siii from the a7iii.
Just a quick one though could I ask what settings you’re using to get such clean footage with the a7iii for the inside shots? I have a similar setup but my footage comes out super grainy when I try and grade - I just assumed this is due to the lower 8 bit depth but wondered if you had any tips to share on this? Thanks!!

Great review of the A7SII, Ted. I just recommend you to use even a cheap camera like the A7C for your stills. You seem pretty knowledgeable and I need your help haha.
On my channel, I film high quality videos of places around the world -- mostly using the Sony A7SIII. I enjoy taking advantage of the HDR feature TH-cam has by embedding HDR metadata in the codec during the export. However, I am still having trouble fully understanding the details of this feature.
1) Apparently HDR videos on TH-cam are defined to show a higher contrast with more colors than the standard digital video. Is this another way of saying that the video will be showing 10 bit color instead of the standard 8 bit?
2) The movie settings of my A7SIII are always set to 200M 4:2:2 10 bit. If I am correct on #1, does this mean that by default I will always be able to take advantage of TH-cam's HDR feature as long as I have my movie settings set to 4:2:2 10 bit and my final export file has HDR metadata in the codec?
3) Do Picture Profiles affect whether the HDR 10 bit feature can be used or not? For example, a lot of my videos were shot in PP Off which uses the default color mode (Rec.709) of the File Format selected on the camera. I am hoping this still retains 10 bit color. Some people are telling me only certain Picture Profiles such as HLG3 (PP10) which uses the BT.2020 color mode are only capable of producing true HDR 10 bit video?
4) The details mentioned above lead to my final general question: Can footage taken on the A7SIII in UHD, 200M 4:2:2 10 bit and PP Off take advantage of the HDR feature on TH-cam? I am worried that even though the TH-cam quality dropdown has HDR, it is not actually showing true HDR 10 bit.
I would greatly appreciate if you can give me advice on this as I have exhausted my research at this point.

Video there’s a noticeable advantage for the A7siii, but I disagree with you about the photos. I thought the A7iii photos were noticeably better.
Agreed, A7iii wins the photo comparison. A7iii is clearer and more crisp. For video A7siii wins mainly because of the 4k 120fps, I bet if the A7iii had 4k in 120fps, it would blow the siii
@@thepotentguy well its more than just the slo-mo. The siii has several video features that make it better than the iii, namely 10bit vs 8bit.
for my first personal camera should I jump straight to the a7siii or a7iii? I have about £4000 pounds of spending money, also an upcoming videographer/editor/colourist/photographer been using black magic and Sony FS5 but buying my own camera next month.

You're asking if you should spend your entire budget on a camera body? For what? To sit on a shelf for viewing? Id go a7iii and buy some lenses, or a lens. Then upgrade.

just like some other people already wrote, not really fair comparing 1080p vs 4k you had to shoot 24 vs 24. Also the photos from the A7iii look better if you look at some spots with more detail

sensor always beats raw megapixel count, i have only a canon g5x2 but the increase of details, color accuracy & dof completely destroys say my pixel 7 pro phone, it's like not even close lol.
great video, both are very capable shooters but when it comes to video the a7siii beats the living hell out of the a7iii, the colors, shadow details, stability are on another level!

Hey man, you are shooting 1080p in the A7III and 4K for the A7SIII, this is not fair. For all the shots, not only the slow motion ones.

Probably would’ve been a lot more helpful if you used the same editing on each… It’s very obvious you have high vibrancy edits on the 7S… and gloomier filters on the other camera 🤦♀️

This is a stupid comparison, you showed us some 120p footage and call it done. lol I did my real world test on both cameras and find that the a7iii 4k 24p is equally sharp as the s3 in most cases. major difference is the 8bit colors and dynamic range. but your test doesnt represent what the a7iii is really capable of.
