    Two huge things no one ever seems to mention regarding the a7IV video that Im glad you did. In 4K 24 and 30, its oversampled from 7K,. The a7S III comes nowhere close to that resolution as it can only do around 4.2K. Also, the crop on the a7IV 4K 60 is no big deal. Most every cinema camera from ARRI, RED, as well as the Sony and Canon cinema cameras, have sensors around the same size as that (APS-C) crop in 4K 60 on the a7IV. I chose the a7IV. Its $1k cheaper, its a TON better for photo, has a better AF system, separate photo and video settings, 7K resolution video and I dont need 240fps. Its pretty much the perfect camera IMO.

    • @ViralVideos-pr2oi
      @ViralVideos-pr2oi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Resolution doesn't matter. People love to crop in 400% to show you a minor difference. But where in cinema are you cropping in 400%? The uncropped images side by side look the exact same. The terrible rolling shutter makes the Sony a7IV a no go for me.

    • @77dris

      Sony people when Canon's old cameras have a video crop: OMG! Canon is crippling their cameras!

      @@evan Yes, you could. Just back up the camera to alleviate the crop if possible.
      Secondly out of curiosity, what is your crucial need for 4k 50p? Even if you're editing 4K and outputting 1080 the A7IVs downsampled 7k will result in an excellent image.

      @@jaycarl1562 I did buy the a7iV and personally I love having the sensor crop option. I have run into it a few times that it is a bummer at 4k60, but personally I have used it to give me some extra crop on my lens almost every video I film. I am primarily using a 28-70 sigma, so that super 35 mode helps me get it more to the 105mm which I like because I used to film almost exclusively on a 28-105.

    The rolling shutter really isn’t a big deal on the 7iv. I can’t really see it being an issue except for in specific use cases. Which in those cases, like filming races or birds flying or something like that, just switch over to aps-c mode and get the improvement. It’s still being downsampled from 4.6k to 4k so it’s gonna look fantastic no matter how you shoot with it.

    2 things A7S3 has clear image zoom in 4k. I use Sigma 16mm f1.4 APSC lens with 1.2crop no issues. Also with color accuracy your the first person I've seen say A7IV is more accurate? When other channels that have done this test with skin tones show opposite. A7IV picture was always Darker and colors shift towards a purple when pushed or pulled while A7S3 held color accuracy better even with alot of noise. But this can all be fixed in Post of course the 10bit offers enough play. I say best bang for buck is A7IV, people that get A7S3 already know they need that high ISO when your traveling documenting film and get your lights jacked by the locals, you make sure your camera has enough ISO to naturally light the scene or use a lamp or street light etc. Cause your not about to start carrying lights everywhere with people that can barely afford the keep the lights on in the house. Shits rough out here. Lol. Buy within your needs and Budget both camera are amazing for what they offer. I have an A7S3 and I'm not selling it for A7IV. If you do or plan to do TH-cam, media influencer, commercial work where you get to set up rigs and lights go A7IV. And your documentary style no set ups except natural and pocket lights I think A7S3 if for you. Just my Opinion, not a fact. At the end do whatever you wanna do.

    The A7SIII is actually using a 48MP sensor. In order to get a 12mp final image, it digitally combines 4 adjacent pixels into 1. This explains why its noise performance is actually worse than the IV (split between the downsampling, the fact that the SIII's "yuuuge" photosites that everyone likes to talk about are actually much smaller than the IV's, and that pixel compositing is inherently noisy business), and why the A1 was "magically" able to do everything the SIII can do without really making any sacrifices; they're essentially using the same sensor.

    Why don’t all camera makers prevent overheating by making the tripod hotshot thread part of a heat pipe exchange to allow extreme heat users to screw in a heat exchange before the tripod? This way, you wouldn’t have to risk water damage from fan air access, and not make much change inside the camera too.

    I have to admit that I shoot more at 12800 than 640. It's not crazy bright as people say, like near golden hour 12800 is barely enough to have a decent exposure in Slog

    I've got both and the a7IV rolling shutter is unusable with a fish eye and any movement, unfortunately super 35 cropping into that lens defeats the purpose of it.

      @@aldolega 😂 I have used that lens on a 5dmii and it’s great! Atm my Samyang 12mm f/2.8 is not a variable zoom; maybe if the a7RV does 10bit 4:2:2 60 un-cropped with a fast sensor read out I’ll trade my a7RIV in plus some cash for that.

    • @aldolega
      @aldolega 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried the Samyang 12mm on my A7III and wasn't too impressed. Ended up doing a Tokina 10-17 and using 1080p60 in FF. Looked good other than the terrible Sony 1080p quality.
      I doubt the rIV will have a fast readout with a clean picture. Just too many pixels to scale quickly. Maybe at low ISO's but I bet it'll be ugly in low-light. I wish Sony had kept the A7IV at 24MP so it could do FF 4K60 with decent rolling shutter.

      @@aldolega I really like the Samyang 12mm on the a7SIII and I've been digging it for photos and hand held vlogging type shots, I use the 2.8 on it more then I thought I would. I'm going to be shooting some video of professional skateboarders this summer with that lens, I'm glad the a7SIII works well with it on it!
      I had that Tokina for my d7000 a decade ago, it's a solid lens!

    Great comparison! I have both also, and noticed battery life is better on the A7SIII. Another odd change was when customizing buttons, the A7 IV doesn't have the an option to choose memory recall so it's not as easy get to the extra 4 custom memory modes. I hope they add that back in a future update.

    Switching from Panasonic to Sony. Needing two cameras. Would you agree in buying both cameras instead of two a7s iii or two a7 IV. The idea is to have one camera for also shooting photos. For video interviews my understanding is that both camera will match well in a two camera shoot.

    Going mirrorless from a Nikon DSLR no-investment setup. Going to start video-ing (no experience at all). Found your Oct 2019 desktop DIY setup-THANK YOU! Have decided to purchase the A7 IV (yeah, again, no Sony experience) but experts seem to like it as a hybrid and mid-cost camera. I think you like it too from what I think I heard in the last 10 seconds. I think I'll look for a 24-70mm 3rd party zoom but I noticed how the 16mm worked for you in the desktop video I referred to above, so maybe I need more input on the lens. Anyway, overall it is a struggle without video experience to figure it all out, and I just want to let you know you are appreciated for sharing what you do so well! ⭐x5
