    Your colors are really looking much sharper compared to the last system bro. I think that DSB had some lingering nastiness that was affecting your colors. Great to see a shallow sandbed in this tank. Looks excellent. Tangs look super happy. Merry Christmas!

      If you have success in growing the corals, at some point you will have to trim them and hopefully sell them. Thankfully over the years the tank has started to pay for itself. Patience and consistency is key. Good luck on the 120!!

    What makes yellow tangs lose their fins? Saw a few like this now..

    • @NathansReef
      @NathansReef 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That yellow tang caught a nasty bacterial infection. A few years ago I think it got into a little sparing match (I think with the yellow eye kohl tang) and got a small cut, well that got infected and it started to eat away as some scales and the fins. It then started getting bullied and stopped eating, it was so worn out I was able to just scoop him out of the display tank and put him in the frag tank where things were much calmer. I got him to eat and nursed him back to health. He healed up but the fins did not grow back. He is once again back in the new bigger display and doesn't get picked on by anyone.

    I have these lights and would love more info about how they have been hung with the rail. I’m not finding much online about how to do it.

    • @NathansReef
      @NathansReef 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hanging Parts:
      M8 Roll-in Spring T-Slot Nut - amzn.to/2FmuQBM
      M8 Ring Eye Bolt - amzn.to/3jPptd4
      These will fit fine into a 1.5” x 1.5” T-slot extrusion. I got mine from alufabinc.com and they will give you a discount if you mention Tidal Gardens. I got mine in black anodized which is a little more expensive but it matches the top of the fixtures and I also got black plastic end caps.
      Theoretically, you could mount the rail almost flush to the wood if you wanted. Those Roll-in Nuts accept an M8 screw, so you could get like a 35mm or so stainless M8 screw and washer (amzn.to/2SIybhv) and send it through the wood into the rail.

    • @NathansReef
      @NathansReef 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That first comment is everything to get the rails mounted onto a wood board like mine in the video. Once they are on, the screw heads on the top of the Atlantik slide right into the T-slots of the rail.

    • @NathansReef
      @NathansReef 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really like the coverage I get with 5. At max settings the lights are stronger then I wanted, par over 750 near the top and over 200 at the bottom. The orange spot does nip at sps polyps so the polyps are closed during the day. Growth and coloration are both good on the sps despite the Orange Spot.

    Shouldn't a calcium reactor be just as 'easy'. You peg it at a pH and then it should pump out a known dkh effluent.
    Need more than just crank up the continuous pump and dump more effluent.
    The reactor would have to be big enough to hold at the wanted pH whilst still cranking out your needed effluent.
    Brs probably explained it better 😅

    • @tidalgardens
      @tidalgardens  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think they are easy, but Nathan has never used one before. A calcium reactor is always more complicated sounding than what it is in practice. The first time someone sets up a calcium reactor, it immediately changes to "that's it?"

    Amazing tank. Ideas what the wattage draw is for a system this size? My r2r250 seems to average around 205 watts. This big guy has to be 1500-2000 Watts or more.

    • @NathansReef

    Hi, two questions, the orange spot harlequin file fish, was it added early to get it to eat, how do you feed it and keep it alive? My second question is do you have a clam in the main display, should I be concerned about multiple similar wrasses you have and having a clam?

    • @NathansReef
      @NathansReef 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got this orange spot file fish as a juvenile. I saw her at a store and she was already interested in eating prepared foods. This one eats prepared foods, sustainable aquatics dry hatcher diet pellets, mysis and spirulina enriched brine. I have had her for over 7 years and while she does pick as sps polyps causing them to hide during the day, it does not seem to hinder growth or coloration of the coral.
      I do not have a clam in the display tank but I do not think any of the wrasses I currently have would be a threat to a clam.

      She eats sustainable aquatics dry hatchery diet pellets, mysis, nori and spirulina enriched brine. I have had her for 7.5 years (brought her home on 5/20/2013)

      @@NathansReef did you have to do anything special to get the orange spot to eat that food which, I assume, you just dump in the tank? Or did she just take to it without issue? Did the place you purchased her from have her on that diet prior to you buying her?

      @@timothydoyle3380 a couple of things. I had a pair before this female. The pair were adults when I got them and I had the female for about three years before she passed and the male for about 4.5. I got that pair from Diver's Den because the go a long way in weening them onto prepared foods. I still had some acro skeletons that I I would smash food onto to help the fish eat in their natural way. Over time they recognized the food else where and would pick it off the bottom or out of the water. The female I have now happened to be at a local shop and was already eating, so I got her. She was a juvenile at the time so I look forward to seeing what their natural lifespan may be.

      @@NathansReef honestly bud thats fantastic. Very glad you can keep one healthily, impressed too.
      Unfortunately though most places dont go to that effort and never teach their customers how to keep them and so most wither away and starve. Too many of these are plucked out the sea only to starve in the tank of someone that doesn't know what theyre doing. Which is why i think they should no longer be available. Still, more power to you - gorgeous and interesting fish, and great skills to keep him fed. Merry christmas
