Yes... great video.. Thanks again for walking us through this ....I remember ...haha when all Fuel pumps were all external . 2 bolts and two fittings and away you go...I never understood putting the pump in the tank ,especially electric fuel pumps ...seems risky at best ... good job guys !!
I thought the same too when I was a young tech, but its safe. Gasoline only burns in vapor form which is why its safe to run electric fuel pumps in a tank full of liquid gasoline. Liquid gasoline does not burn well if at all. Commercial Aircraft have been using electric fuel pumps since the late 50's, which is where some our automotive technology surprising does come from. /K&K
I've been having a similar issue crank but no start, the same amount of fuel into the bottle I guess I'll be doing the fuel pump change thanks for the video
Hmmm after thinking about it it’s all about MPG right . The Mechanical fuel pump’s probably did draw a little bit a extra power by running off the Cam . Anyway thanks again 👍🏼
Appreciate this video so much I don't believe I'll try this on my own lol You guys are pretty efficient while doing the video....how much labor hours is appropriate if I get this done at shop or dealership and how do I tell if it's the pump I get great gas mileage and when starting the car it intermittently randomly car turns over and attempts to start but struggles To start and almost feels like a kickback of sorts...I realize this is an older video but I'm sure hoping to hear from you oh and yesterday is the first time I couldn't get passed the struggle start...dang And ....thank you I was wondering where the pump was located..now who ever decided that...$#@!
Depending on year we will test fuel pressure by undoing the fuel filer outlet and turn the key to "ON" and see if the fuel pump primes. If the pump is bad no fuel will pass though the fuel filter located in the engine compartment. Most Subaru fuel pumps are located below the rear seat so you can pull that seat out and see if you can hear the pump prime with the key on. The pump will only prime for 5 seconds before it shut off unless the engine is started. The fuel tanks are hard to remove so Subaru installed a hatch cover for easy removal and instillation of a new fuel pump. Most shops will charge around $300.00-$400 for diagnosis, parts & labor. /K&K
@@KNKRNR thank you 😊 I've got pump and strainer having trouble getting fuel pump tank oval shaped gasket..do you think it's reusable after almost 28 years 192 thousand miles and never been opened ( time and temperature warn) ??? @@pamelavance648 If there are no visible cracks in the gasket it is safe to reuse it. We just give the fuel tank hat just a little bit of extra bit of torque on the bolts. If there are cracks in that gasket you can get RTV that that is fuel resistant, just use enough to seal any cracks present on that hat gasket. They don't make that gasket anymore so if we had to source one we use a junk yard vehicle. So far we have reused that gasket with no issues, don't top the gas tank off so fuel isn't sitting at the top. Leave a little room at the top during each refueling, its recommended to fill tank to 90% anyway for emission purposes. Bummer let's see if we can find out why. Will it start and run if you keep your foot on the pedal at about 10% to 20% not full throttle? If it runs with your foot lightly applied then you may be having a problem with the I.A.C.> Two common problems that can cause this stalling after pump replacement 1. Those I.A.C. (Idle Air Control Valves) goes bad and will cause stumbles and sudden die outs. 2. The throttle position sensor go bad as well. Unplug T.P.S and try to start in normal. If it does run okay but sluggish while driving (Doesn't Stall) then you have a problem with Throttle Position Sensor / or circuit. If it still starts and dies (NO change in problem) then T.P.S is fine for the start/run mode go to I.A.C. Sensor for next possible cause. Check for any vacuum leaks, weak battery cables, bad wiring or common ground wire breaks on the intake manifold. If you can run those test, let me know what happens, we can try to get it narrowed down for you and get your Suby running again. /K&K
@@KNKRNR Would this apply also to my situation with my 1997 Subaru Legacy sedan L 2.2 liter? Car started and died down after about 5 seconds and did not want to start bu it engine would turn.
