    Hello John. Great video as usual!! I am becoming kind of addicted to your videos! One doubt I have: do you normally record into 1080 50i? Or is it because the canon cameras of that sort don't give you the option of outputting true 1080 25p? What format to you consider the most appropriate for editing and for streaming? I had the same issue with the output signal of my Canon HF G40 and don't really know which format to choose. Thank you!!!

    • @heretorecord
      @heretorecord  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great comment and question. Back when I made this video I recorded in 1080i50 but since then I have changed to 1080p25. The cameras do output a true 1080p50 signal which is really nice and then I convert my final ATEM output to 1080p25 for delivery. So to answer your question, the camera cannot output 1080p25 but I work around it!

      @@heretorecord Thank you John for your quick reply!! 😅 I was wondering also about the setting of your router... I am not very familiar with the networking part of how to setup your router correctly to make it work with the ATEM, the Streaming device, your MAC computer etc... Do you set static IP for all your connected devices or do you leave it on dynamic and let it connect it via DHCP? My concern is to find the correct way to configure the router in a way that I can just configure it once and make it work every time no matter where I get the internet signal from? Thanks for any help!!

    Hello John. I am looking to build a live streaming rig but i am currently indecisive on which streaming hardware to get - The Blackmagic Web Presenter or the Cam Link 4K... between these two devices, what are your thoughts on which one to get based on performance, quality and durability? Hope to hear from you soon. Joe

      Also worth mentioning that i already have the atem HD switcher and hyperdeck studio so my main focus really is on the quality of streaming online and what options each device would give me.

    Thanks for the Awesome video, John! For this setup, is there any specific reason you're using the Mini Recorder rather than a more feature-rich device like the UltraStudio Express? The Mini Recorder is so simple and I love it!

    • @heretorecord
      @heretorecord  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jeremy Carrasco thanks for the nice comment - I really appreciate it! I'm using the mini recorder as it really is all i need in this instance. I don't need to monitor the signal it cross convert it - I just need it in the computer. So thats why I go with the simple device! I just don't need the extra features that come with the express! Hope that clears it up a little :)

    How do you handle audio delay with this setup? Are you using a hardware encoder for streaming or something like Wirecast? In Wirecast I can set an audio delay but how would I do this if I use something like Vidiu Pro?

  •  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey! Great setup and info!
    I'm actually trying to record the screen of speakers while filming conferences through the same avermedia portable but having great difficulties making this work. Most of the time i just end up having the light blinking blue a second after hitting record and the limited times that I got it to record sustained, the recording ends up consisting only of static noise. I've tried HDMI from a desktop with both windows and OSX + from a macbook. I've also tried a heap of different SD cards in either FAT32 or NTFS and different HDMI cables going either straight in or through a splitter. Also tried connecting it to the output of a field monitor while inputting the computer screen to it. I can record directly to the avermedia from the HDMI out from my camera so the problem seems to be when it comes from the computer.
    What have I missed here? :)
    Thanks and keep doing these great videos! :)

    I highly recommend those Decimator's were using them in our churches set up. we just dropped $15k on black magic equipment so there's really not any money in the budget to go out and get good broadcast cameras so, for now, we have 3 of these on a Sony a6300, Gopro 3 and an older Sony Handycam and we have a nice Panasonic P2 ... it's not perfect but it sure gets us some more angles without dropping $$$ yet. If you search "covenant church Doylestown" you can see the quality were getting

      Great question, however, it's not something I have had many issues with - I've been doing some testing lately and I've found that my video is actually a frame ahead of my audio in some tests so I'd be better off with a video delay option somewhere. With that said, there are devices to delay audio, check out this StudioTechTV epidode... th-cam.com/video/ne1H68Mrdn4/w-d-xo.html

    • @heretorecord
      @heretorecord  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my case, I reached out to lots of conferences and events and got gigs that way. That may still be a very valid approach! It's often good to start small with meetups (or similar virtual events) and grow from there.

    Hi John, I am starting here with live streaming of small concerts...still working on the set up but going forward...thank you also to your great videos.;;) The thing I am struggling with: are you using one or two laptops? I am using right now only one laptop. I have the issue though when connecting the Korg Midi Controller that I have to connect the item switcher via ethernet to the laptop. and that seems to create issues with the internet connection. I have seen that a lot of people are using two laptops, so not sure if such a setup as yours is possible with only one laptop? On the video I see one on the table and one misterious one on the floor ;)))). Thank you, your videos are just great.

      Hey! I only ever use on laptop as I only have one. I connect the ATEM to a router and the laptop to the router too. This might be the best way for you to do it too. As for that other laptop in the video, that was just a conference attendees laptop haha

    • @xx-vk1df

    • @heretorecord
      @heretorecord  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Events Unlimited we tend to just use whatever the venue has already. Mostly it's best not to go too heavy on lighting when the speakers wander around stage (and possibly leave the sweet spots). Something flat and constant is best!

      have you thought of any wireless options? such as SD-wifi? (from camera --> pc/mac) also why do you connect via LAN, wouldn't it be less messy to use facility WIFI?

    • @heretorecord
      @heretorecord  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sammamish Q I always avoid wireless as it introduces lag/delay. SD wifi would work for moving small files over wifi but not for a video stream. And I connect to the LAN as it's not a good idea to stream over wifi as it comes with consistency issues. Running an Ethernet cable to ensure a good stream is always worth it.

    • @sammamishq7688
      @sammamishq7688 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i'm looking into streaming because I enjoy filming bands, but the time it takes to edit in decent sound from my 4ch sound recorder (desk and room 24bit 96k -- via Tascam Dr40 SDcard) is pretty appalling, even if i'm just doing it for fun. I don't have powerful software at home.
      if my laptop has HDMI in and my camera (Nikon1series) has HDMI-micro out? realistically is there anything vital I need besides the cable? if just using facebook live?
      that might be an annoying question, but with these videos you never know if something is a luxury or necessity for sure??
      once I get the hang of it, i'll probably find out why I need all of these other things, esp if I want to add another camera (static wide) into the mix.
      from your video I think the main thing is that my laptop needs to be semi-decent, or just get the external encoder??? does facebook not encode the stream? is the encoder just to reduce lag or is it a necessity. are there FB prerequisite input settings?
      thanks again. you've obviously been doing this a while and have a great handle on it, esp with the backup drives and stuff?
      oh.. lastly.. is it just a matter of having the software you mentioned if I want to record and stream at the same time? and I don't know much about mini computers, but I was surprised you had one in your diy box considering the laptop on the floor I imagine could do that job?_?

    • @heretorecord
      @heretorecord  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sammamish Q lots of questions! Great!
      First up you'll need to check if the Nikon camera has a clean HDMI feed out. Often cameras like that will have display information on the HDMI feed that cannot be turned off.
      Next, are you sure you have HDMI in on your computer? It's more likely a HDMI out port as that is the common connection.
      In that case converters are needed to get the HDMI feed into your computer.
      The laptop still needs to process the video to send it onto a stream and to record it. For a single-camera situation then you won't need quite as much power.
      The mini computer in my setup does nothing other than show a pretty static website, the laptop does all the real work!

    Do I need an ATEM for my live stream? could I just use Wirecast? My mac is suffering a lot, is it because I do not have an ATEM switcher?

    • @heretorecord
      @heretorecord  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +John Rot the ATEM switcher would certainly take a lot of the load off the Mac and therefore is a great option. Also it allows for more inputs (and outputs) so it's considered a more professional way to get things done with a lot of flexibility.
      That said you can definitely do lots with Wirecast!
