It's remarkable just how close our setup matches yours - both in hardware and software. The one extra thing I've found that has made any kind of post audio work a breeze is the addition of a Hyperdeck Pro to our audio rack; the X32 sends each of its outputs into a few Blackmagic Audio to SDI converters and those are daisy-chained to attach each audio track into a separate SDI channel. The beauty of the Hyperdeck is that it can record 16 channels of audio, so in addition to our live program records with stereo mixdowns, we also get a video track with each independent "raw" audio source completely isolated and married to the video. It's the same concept as your laptop multitrack idea, but removes the need to do any syncing later (and has a smaller footprint). Thanks for the behind the scenes look!
Can I check my understanding: You run a cable for each audio input out to a audio->SDI converter (with a max of 4 channels per converter) and piggy back them as needed running the program feed in as SDI to begin with? Giving you a program video record with the program stereo mixdown and up to 14 channels of mono channel iso records?
@@madsastvad Yes, I think you understand! The X32 rack has several balanced audio outputs, so we just run those straight into the SDI embedders. We use then just use two of the X32 aux outputs to send the mixed, stereo feed to the Hyperdeck mini. Thus, at the end of each show we have the full program recording as was mixed live, as well as a separate recording of the edited video show but with completely separated, "raw" (pre-fader) ISO tracks of audio. If you take the Hyperdeck Pro file and drop it into an NLE, you have the entire stem of audio to work with. You'd obviously have to do more editing work with that file, but if you ever need to fix something, you have complete freedom. Or, even if there were no major problems, it allows you to do a complete remix of the entire show (incredibly helpful if you are recording a concert or other situation with musical elements that require precision mixing). You can do similar things like this video shows running the tracks over dante into an audio DAW, but I have had issues in the past with sync and drift that can absolutely ruin a long show. This way, everything is 100% perfect and you still have access to all of the tracks. If you would like any more info, feel free to email me at daltonrandall89 at g-mail; I love talking this stuff and seeing how different people do things!
@@daltonrandall4348 thx a bunch, Dalton. Super helpful. I'm piecing stuff together for non-profit work, so it's work in progress and I'm definitely here to learn. My experience so far has been to avoid post processing if at all possible, just never have the time, but I agree sometimes nice to be able to fix a thing or two. I've mostly done iso records on cameras and (the very few) audio tracks with embedded timecode from tentacle syncs on all of them to allow me to piece it together after the fact, but that does take a bit of time setting up and occasionally one of the sources won't be recording. I can see how your solution is quite fast for post production. Can I ask - do you do any iso records for video sources? I have toyed with constellation 2ME and extreme iso sdi combo which would allow plenty routing, program and iso recrods on the extreme and streaming from the latter as well. Being a bit budget conscious I've also toyed with running decklink cards in beefy computer and doing almost everything in OBS/vmix. They are so fast nowadays you can do almost everything including iso records plus I quite prefer the flexibility of software based compositing over the atem system. I know it's maybe not quite as fail safe, but it has worked for me for many a stream with no hickups (not doing iso records, though). Sorry, that was a bit of a ramble. I might hit you up on that email. Thx again
@@madsastvad I agree with you 100% - I avoid post processing as much as possible as well. The audio stems are mostly for protection; let's say you have an open mic that should have been muted and caused background noise... or you have two people talking and one is quite a bit louder than the other... any number of things. You can completely fix it and not have to worry. But you're right, the idea is that you won't ever have to touch them (or, in some situations they are invaluable for overall post mixing like the kinds of events I alluded to previously). Don't forget, though, that I also have a stereo mix from the show itself so in most cases there is no need for post. Just having the stems is so much nicer than having to deal with an external solution or sync audio from ISOs (in my opinion). All of that is a total hassle. We do record camera ISOs, but we do those in-camera... it's just easier and requires less hardware to deal with. One could get a Shogun for every source and route SDI to it and get another SSD for it, etc., but... yeah, I think you get the picture. :) I actually also do run vMix in tandem with our ATEM now - each has some pretty major strengths over the other, and they are a great pair - but I never do recording on the vMix PC. In my experience it's just always better not to tax a switching machine as much as possible while it is doing production-critical work. Everyone has their preferences, though!
Why does all Video guys used them plastic Gator cases...Thon Shockmount Racks are the way to go they are so handy to fly around in and out of venues great for thorwing into the back of a truck or on a ship behind hauled half way around world , yeah they are lost more expensive but they last for 10+ years I still have some from early 2000's
Oh my! This is extremely close to my maxxed out on location set. We use 3 PTZ camera’s compared to the blackmagic camera’s (a bit jealous though) really nice
Loved the tour, it was very insightful to see the different interfaces you use. One thing I noticed you did not touch on was comms, and I would love to know how you integrate it with your setup. I've heard that the built-in comms on the Ursas are not the best, so I don't know if you're using an alternative.
amazing video. just like to ask do you have an indepth tutorial of the x touch and x32 setup (basically the audio part) I would love to know. thanks in advance.
What camera cranes are you using as well and what type of tripods are you using with tripod fluid heads what brand and what brand of camera cranes are you using too also what remote heads are you using too for the cameras?
For your "PTZ" cameras, what system are you using to transmit the video to the ATEM switcher. Something like the Hollyland or Teradek? The APC-R isn't sending the signal over Wi-Fi is it?
If your budget only allowed for 2 cameras to live stream a church service using unmanned cameras and your choices were the Blackmagic Studio 4k Pro G2 or the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k, which would you choose and why ?
W O W 😮😮 This has got to be one of the most incredible setups I've seen. Absolutely fantastic job 👏 👍 That was seriously amazing to see. Thanks for sharing.
Nice setup, can you tell me how you control the Ronin Gimbals with the Stream Deck and joystick? Been looking for a solution for a couple of years now. Thanks..
Thank you so much dear. Your video is very helpful. But I need your guidance . Also please give me any other guidance or caution in this matter, if you have any ,because I am not an expert . Thank you .God bless you.
Great overview and a nice clean well planned setup Thibaud... I note you are using DJI RS2's and BMD cameras in preference to standard PTZ cameras - Do you find that approach provides you with a better quality and more flexible setup?
Thanks! We're actually building the solution that transforms RS2 + BMPCC into PTZ Camera (Middle Things APC-R) . Much better quality than regular PTZ, and flexible, but a little less convenient than a PTZ camera in terms of setup time ( you need to calibrate the gimbal, etc) . But worth it :)
Great clean builds! I'm very curious to know more about the fiber stage box for cameras. Are you using the bmd fiber converters? How are you combining the 2 into 1?. Are you running tally and com?
Thanks! Yes BMD fiber converters and then Neutrik OpticalCon Quad fiber system. You can have 4 fibres go into one cable (so 2x2 fibers from Blackmagic converters). Yes we have Tally this way and for comms we use Eartec UltraLite
Thanks! Actually the X-Touch console controls the mixer through Ethernet, better than USB. So you have the X32 Control Ethernet, the X32 Dante Ethernet, and the XTouch Ethernet that all go into the same network.
I love how clean this setup is with the custom backplate, foam for the mic drawer etc.
Thanks!
Yes, the mic drawer is the "chef's kiss" for the audio rack. 2 x👍❗
yeah I just noticed this also, amazing custom plates in the video mixer rack, and the fiberoptic rack ! Well done Thibaud!
the rack is world class 👌 I really need this in Kenya 🇰🇪
THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO. I’m surely gonna have to look into the Middle Things Setup. Awesome setup for a 1-2 person livestream operation.

I’m curious, if you’re placing the audio case at the stage, how do you get the audio back to the ATEM switcher frame? Are you doing that over Dante?
How can i get a list of items in this setup? This is a game changer.
Hello sir, I much love your setup. I will really like to purchase clearly everything you have on set. How much do I need to own all those gears.
How much would this entire production equipment cost all together?

Will the DJI Ronin 3 be added to the compatible list soon?
It's already added :) The RS3 Pro is supported. But not the RS3
This is insane! Where did you get the rear panel for your main case made?
I second this! …? 😁
