Your overview and quality was great, especially compared to others that talk about live-streaming and switching. Thanks and please cover this topic more!
Thanks for the info. I am glad you did not have any issue with those wireless transmitters. I have 3 sets of Hollyland 400 S Pro and I always loose them every few minutes turning them into a useless alternatives. And I am talking in spaces where they look each other directly in less than 200 ft.
I would recommend hard wiring with SDI am whenever possible 3G SDI is all you need and anything over 1080p is over kill for live streams. Another thing is having all your cameras being plugged in for power is almost always crucial.
I have USB power to a power bank always if I’m running a camera for longer than 30 minutes. I would run cables but in many situations it’s easier to go wireless and with no more than 50ft distance the latency is not noticeable.
Regarding audio setup i have good experience with running the mixed audio through my camera no1. I plugin the xlr cables and use then the embedded audio in the hdmi signal from that camera. In the Atem i select audio only from that camera. This way i almost never had any issues with synchronicity.
Quite similar setup for our conferences. Though I use now a Rodecaster Pro II for sound, especially because I need also a moderator directly talking with attendees in Teams and also feed back audio from online to the main room. As the new Rodecaster has those routing options including avoiding loopbacks, that works quite well. Thinking of using a Blackmagic DeckLink Quad HDMI Recorder in a PCIe to Tunderbolt box and OBS on a HP Zbook plus a small Stream Deck instead of the Atem mini in future. As nice it is having the Atem running independently and so keep PC load low, I just dislike the Blackmagic switcher software. You can do with OBS so much more and much easier PiP and scenes. But I will bring the Atem along to venues, just as a backup or if needed as hdmi to webcam converter (runs more stable than Camlink in my opinion).
Have you found a way of ISO recording and exporting out to OBS at the same time? I understand the hard drive takes up the slot you would normally use to connect to your computer.
I have a cooking show. I have been doing a couple of live streams. I am interested in getting an atem and then multi streaming across youtube and facebook if possible. Thank you for the video. Any thing else I should consider?
I have used multiple cam links but most of my cameras can connect using USB now so I don’t really use cam links anymore. I try to limit overloading usb because it can cause a port to fail and the only way to get it back is to restart the computer.
We plan on live streaming our podcasts and have 3 cameras that are in 4k that we would like to switch between during recording. You mentioned in the video that the Atem Mini down samples the quality to 1080. Is there a live stream switcher that keeps the 4k quality within the cameras whilst live streaming and exporting? Thank you so much… we are excited to make this dream a reality.
Love the wireless camera signal to laptop via switcher but instead of using wifi to router how about 5g thetered to laptop battery powered and youtube live via software ? What if your shot location has no reliable hard wired internet/router ? Sometimes all you got is cellular 5g ? Will 5g mimic an network connection when there is no wired router avaliable?
I have had to tether laptop to my iPhone before. It’s not a good solution but better than nothing. I have Starlink which I bring as a backup in situations where I don’t know what to expect with internet. Usually I work with the IT department to get a dedicated and unrestricted line.

Hi Jerad, thanks for the Video - I have a question: (How) can I use an existing livestream on the internet (just any webcam) use and turn into a youtube livestream? Thanks for your answer!
Great setup! We're using PTZ cameras and running SDI+Ethernet loomed, though I'm wondering about trying to add Wireless. Do you find that the wireless latency is noticeable between wired and wireless inputs? Do you delay the wired to sync up with the audio correctly?
Great tutorial. Thank you. Of course there's a big spectrum here...but what do you typically charge for a 4-hour event? Or where could I find more about that?
Thanks for this. Two questions: 1) What's the range on your wireless transmitters? 2) How are you getting your Starlink signal (I'm assuming from outside the building) into your production area?
Such a useful video, thank you! Question: How do you manage to incorporate slides shows into the live stream? How would you get that feed, would you use a HDMI splitter where one side goes to the projector and other side goes to your switcher?
Good stuff Jared I was wondering, how do you live stream with a wireless connection combine with a hard wire connection do you ever experience any latency between the two when you switch from a hard wire connection to a wireless connection just curious
Tips on OBS scene setups for livestreaming and tips on setting up the audio mixer or different audio mixing options for people. Thanks for the info you shared. I wanted to ask you how do you do to stream or record to the ssd (Is what I always do) in HD and record to the each camera in 4K. In the cameras should I press REC or I can do it through the ATEM?. Thanks! 🤙
If you have Blackmagic cameras, you can send the rec command from the ATEM, but with any other brand you're gonna have to press the rec button on each of the individual cameras.

Great content!! Question for ya… running your cams through the ATEM switcher, does that act as your “encoder” or “capture card” so to speak? Or does your live-streaming platform do that processing for you? Kinda new to this but needing to do it for work. I’ve got 2 Dslr cams and I’ll be using a zoom podtrak P8 for audio and have been looking at the cam link or legato HD 60 X for the cameras (a7r3 and a FX3) just don’t quite understand how you get that encoding done for 2 cameras on the same device. I’m probably not explaining that well. Ha Thanks in advance!
@@dhfkfloorball The ATEM Mini is an encoder itself, as well as a video switcher. It encodes everything and sends it out to whatever streaming destination you choose (TH-cam, Facebook, Twitch).

Thanks for the video, Jared. It’s nice to know it’s not alone to do the livestream service. I hope I can find this video 4 years ago so I can be less struggled lol. Quick question, I found that it’s better to use ATEM mini as main video processing device instead of using OBS, due to the reason that OBS will be using graphics card of the PC broadcasting. (So I actually inputting my PPT slide source into atem mini and use the macros on the software control to make the scene.) How do you think about it?
Nice video with down to earth explanation of live stream setup. Our church’s 3 camera live stream is connected with Cat 6 through a PoE switch and into OBS from there. Audio is using an X32 Compact mixer to an audio interface. No video capture device. Is there anything I should know about using Ethernet cable instead of HDMI? Thanks.
I've done many livestreams with a similar setup to yours - looking at restarting that business now. Wondering why you went with Sony mirrorless cameras rather than camcorders? I've used mirrorless cameras for livestream (GH5 and similar) and found then to be bit of a pain - cost of lenses, battery capacity, cost of camera etc. I know the A7 will give better picture quality but no one I worked with ever cared or noticed. Why use mirrorless?
Hello! This was a really good video, it helped a lot! But I still have a question in my head. If I use a switcher, do I need capture cards for mí camera? Im sorry if its already mentioned somewhere... Thanks for the video btw.
The ATEM records to SSD. You simply plug into the device and it recognizes the drive. You hit record and it captures each channel of video and a full edit of everything you switched while recording.
Would you be able to recommend a portable live streaming setup? What would you cut out and leave behind? Laptop over PC? Standalone mic or built in to the headset? (or the webcam?) Please help!

Hi Jerad I'm looking for suggestions on a 4K video setup for recording church services/events with 4 or 6 camera angles. I need a way to record all angles internally at the same time with high-quality audio capture, triggered by pressing one record button. No live streaming, just internal recording for post-production use. Please help. What device would i need for this setup?
Hi Jerad, Thanks for this amazing video. I have a similar setup (Atem Mini Pro ISO and Sony 7M4), but I cannot get an image from my camera to appear in OBS or when attempting to stream on YT. The Black Magic device does not appear in OBS unless I connect the ATEM with USB c to the Mac directly and even then, there is no image. That's the TLDR. Here is the detail on my set up. I am controlling thru ethernet (I am able to control the buttons on the device using the button images on the laptop). I have the output resolution on the laptop for output set to 1920X1080p. On the Sony the is set to file format: XAVC S HD, with Res/Frame Rate: HD (1080p), I am plugged from Camera 1 (2, 3 or 4) with a HDMI 'high speed" cable -not usb version is written on it. Any idea of what I going wrong? I still get no image or Black Magic devices listed when connected to OBS or YT for streaming while connected to ethernet (not usb C).
Thanks for the video, could you possibly elaborate on using the XLR audio interface in conjunction with the Atem mixer? Is it as simple as selecting the interface as the audio channel on the stream? Does it ever drift out of sync from the video feed? thanks :)
I'm a one man band as well. Currently run 3 stationary cams on 2 track corners and straightaway and one I operate for following races. All connected through NDI. I have a small 15 channel Streamdeck switcher mounted on my tripod handles so that I can switch angles and scene replays without taking my hands off the cam. Works great. I am interested in wifi to put a couple cams on the far side of track but afraid of the latency shooting these fast cars. How well do you think those transmitters would be? I run OBS as well
Thank you for the information. Ever seen a way to switch to and from your main camera hands free, on a multi-camera set up? Say maybe a foot peddle. Would like to set up the automatic camera switching but able to switch to and from the main camera without my hands as I will have my hands full.
Elgato Stream Deck has a pedal option for switching cameras hands free. Check out the reviews. Of course, it’s one more thing to learn to master, so take your time to get it right.
I have a problem with audio latency. The internet connection speed is good and it's stable, but I can never sync the audio and video. I'm using 2 Canon XA 75 camcorders and a GoPro 12 black. I am also using the gostream switcher. It will be in sync and working perfectly, until I actually go live. Thoughts?

On the Sony the is set to file format: XAVC S HD, with Res/Frame Rate: HD (1080p), I am plugged from Camera 1 (2, 3 or 4) with a HDMI 'high speed" cable -not usb version is written on it. Any idea of what I going wrong? I still get no image or Black Magic devices listed when connected to OBS or YT for streaming while connected to ethernet (not usb C).
You have to connect the ATEM via USB to the computer if you want it to show up in OBS.
Great Video, Subscribed and learned a ton!
Great information well done ❤
Thanks for the video, could you possibly elaborate on using the XLR audio interface in conjunction with the Atem mixer? Is it as simple as selecting the interface as the audio channel on the stream? Does it ever drift out of sync from the video feed? thanks :)
I run it all through OBS and it stays in sync. I have used ATEM and audio interface over long Zoom calls and it also stays in sync.
@@jeradcamera thanks so much for the response! much appreciated, I'm going to look into it now :)
I run OBS as well
It depends on the distance and any interference between. Most of my use cases have the cameras no more than 50 ft away and with direct line of sight.
@@GoodNewsJamaicaTV I’ll take a look! Thank you!
Thoughts?
