    I have used your petroleum jelly trick in the past it works good. Good tip. I see that you are a recycler, the white shirt that you use as your assembly rag. Thank you for you clear videos Gebbuilt. It helped me a lot.
    Really so nice the way you combine the work and videos, with your son being around in workshop.
    (This is a gift you have , gives me kind of happy feeling) I wanted so much and tried also a lot , to create interest and skills like this to my Son. Long time I had good hope.
    But he is 17 now, and still ...gaming remains prio1 in the life of a big part of next young gen. Really hope you do have that luck sharing same hobbys.
    I think gotta accept times changed and let them go their own chosen way. ( keep pushing to long, when it does not workout is also not the way )
    My question:
    Rear output.
    I have noticed and still wonder why ? the 5 bolt seal retainer drain back channel, it ends op on a blind flange ( no oil hole lines up there ?)
    While on the front side, 4 bolt seal retainer it does line up with a logic drainhole on spot !
    You even cutted the gasket intentions to line-up with an opening ? see at 17:32
    Could it be the case the same (factory mold) alu retainers are used on different applications , and on our NP205 it has no function ?
    Only thing I can imagine is to "store" and prevent sludge/dirt getting into bearing groove.
    Keep up making new instr. vids please.
    Thanks Martijn ( the Netherlands)

    Great work, nice and clear directions. I'm needed to do this to a dodge W250. It took out or vice versa, the input berring in the front axle. After I got it together it was good for 2 days. Then a funny sound I get down this morning and push on the front drive line. There was 1/2" of movement on the transfer case output. Lol.. time to learn something. Lol.. Im a subscriber now. Thanks!

    These are great videos. I just bought one from a F250 its divorced. Itll go in an older GM truck with a passenger side drop. That will put it in an odd position. I have room for it to set in the way it needs to go. I noticed the vent will face down. Can I simply tap n plug that vent and drill another vent in what will become the new top? Also is there any issues Ill have by running it laid to one side? thanks for the quality show how tooooos

    I'm currently rebuilding my Chevy NP205 and your video series have been immensely helpful so thank you! I do have one question though, after placing the rear output housing onto the output shaft at 12:30 in the video, I noticed that the protruding section on the back of the housing touches and rubs against the gear when trying to spin it. Is that normal or am I doing something wrong?

    • @GebBuilt
      @GebBuilt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should not rub. It has been a while since I've been in this case so I can't answer off of the top of my head but the video should show the whole process. God bless!

    Hey Geb, I've got a speedo problem with my 71 Blazer with a 205 case. Speedo doesn't work, I pulled the cable and driven gear to check them and everything seems good. It feels like I can spin the speedo drive gear with my finger inside the case. What keeps the speedo drive gear from spinning on the output shaft? I didn't see splines on the output shaft or the inside of the speedo drive gear. Is it just torque from the output yoke that should press on it?

    Great vid, Geb- I'm just now learning the basis of 4x4's and transfer cases. 1978 Dodge Club Cab 2WD but I want to make it a medium duty 4x4 (just to get up Mt. Hood from time to time). Is the NP205 overkill? Maybe a chain drive aluminum case (NP231/ 241/ 271) would be fine? You got a new subscriber!

    • @GebBuilt
      @GebBuilt  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's awesome and thanks a ton for subscribing! I would say as long as you're not doing anything hard core you'll be fine with an aluminum chain drive transfer case. In all honesty I'd prefer a chain drive in any vehicle that I was going to put highway miles on since they're much quieter and in my opinion provide less rolling resistance. If you want bulletproof go 205 of course. God bless!

    Thanks for making these videos! I've been following along step by step building mine out of a ford. When I was taking it apart I noticed the bearings were loose and they pretty much just fell out. So I thought new bearings would do the trick, but as I was putting the new output shaft bearing in it just slid right in also. No tapping was necessary. Is this normal?

    • @GebBuilt
      @GebBuilt  8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Geb,thank you so much for making these videos! You did a great job. They are very helpful especially the part of this video, installing the needle bearings in the output shaft. My np205 came out of my '91Dodge that got totaled. It has over 500,000miles on it but was in amazingly good shape. Im replacing all of the bearings, seals and inputshaft because the splines were worn (and im kinda anal!) The transfer case and engine ( cummins) are going into a 1947 ford 2ton. Thanks again for making these videos. I pray you and yours stay safe and protected from the covid 19 plaguing our country. God bless!

    12:15 Working on a 1973 gmc t-case, I noticed there was a space between the Speedo gear and bearing on mine. I also noticed a difference in your output shaft from mine: on the bottom where the rollers ride right above it mine is smooth where yours steps down for about an inch. Did research and found an exploded view of my specific case, there is a spacer that goes on before the speedo gear. I'm not sure if this is correct because there is a small gap between the bottom of the bearing lock ring and the housing. Geb, if you or anyone else can clarify this I would appreciate it

    22:50 why can you just remove the clip and the washer? Then put the needle bearings in followed by the washer and then the clip?
    Do you have any problems with these seeping through the threads of the screws that hold the covers on? My divorced case came with star washers that seep all over the place.

      I coulnt find a place for a new reply. Thanks Geb for the videos! I probably wouldnt have tried it if I hadnt come across them. Just finished mine up, not back in the truck yet. I have a divorced Ford 205, things are swapped on it for those looking, 4x4 and range rails are opposite, had me wondering if someone had been in it before, but I marked each as suggested so put it back together the way it had come apart after walking away from it and thinking about the ford having the front output on the drivers side. On the bench it wont shift if I screw the detent ball screws all the way in. It will be tough to get to once mounted back in the truck, thinking Ill put a washer\spacer under them, or will the leverage of the stick be enough once its mounted? Shifts smoothly but easy to go beyond each position with them backed off a bit.

    Is this transfer case out of a 1974 Chevy k5 blazer

    • @GebBuilt
      @GebBuilt  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ChevyK5 - It is an NP205 transfer case. It is used in many applications, but I am not sure that it was offered as a stock piece in the Blazer. The NP205 has a fairly distinct appearance slightly resembling an NP203, but very different than the aluminum cases. I know there are sites out there that have detailed pics to assist in identifying your transfer case that you could go to for reference. Also, the aluminum cases generally have a circle shaped ID tag riveted to it. I now I didn't answer your question, but I hope I pointed you in the right direction. Thank you and God bless!

    • @GebBuilt
      @GebBuilt  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, great question! I power wash the heck out of it before I even take it apart, then yes I soak the gutted case in mineral spirits and work it over with a scraper and wire brush. Then I go over it with a wire wheel, wire brush, and laquer thinner to get as much old paint off as possible. I know it's old school compared to media blasting but it's what I do.
