I feel like most eso tanking videos are showing super powerful high end builds and skills with gear sets and champion points that not all leveling players have so I appreciate you making this video. Gives me a better idea of what skills and passives I should focus on as I level so from a newer player this is much appreciated.
Though an older vid, this guide really helps even now. Learning tanking has improved every aspect of my game. I started just doing Orsinium delves solo, using no skills at all, only LA/HA, Block, Dodge, and Interrupt. That really helped as I started adding in the other skills. As a DPS main, it was hard at first to stop my instinct to always attack, lol.
I just recently found your videos but I haven't stopped watching them. I've learned so much and I really appreciate it. I know you don't read these but you're insanely knowledgeable. I only wish that I could hear you better. You should try dropping the music, or turning it down.
Hey nice vid, I would also suggest that when blocking take block off for a split second and double click light attack, you can get a few light attacks off without taking damage!
Here is my Sorcerer Tank build: 1-PUNCTURE (either morph works) 2-SHIELDED ASSAULT (simply the engage) 3-SHATTERING PRISON (roots the enemies, just like the DK Talons, but with the Dark Magic Passive, it heals 5% per enemy you hit with it, that is huge) 4- SUMMON TWILIGHT MATRIARCH: Your main Dmg source, that heals you when under 35% health, and passively increases heal by 9%. This takes some weight off of the healers shoulders. The Twilight is not that hard to keep alive with puncture and 5- HARDENED WARD: Shields you and your Twilight. Any tips or critics for this build? Any Suggestions for the second slot?
Fynn Gilbert Good build overall thought I'd drop the summon creature for Defensive Postures for extra mitigation and stamina cost reduction. I like Streak as my movement tool instead of Shielded Assault. I'm a High Elf and have no stamina return via race or passives so I don't use any stamina abilities. Otherwise looks solid.
I like the templar as a tank, very healer friendly, it's true I can't do as much dps as a dk, but defensively, you can't beat a templar, especially an Imperial templar :)
awesome job! And NB's do have some cool tanking abilities but are missing too many core abilities for tanking. For awhile NBs were able to use dark cloak to stun mobs, which was awesome, but now they lose the focus of the mob. This is a great video, i am trying to learn how to tank and this is nice. would love to see some more videos in action!
Yeah it was a good guide for tanking in general but he completely did not know any info about Nightblades. He did not even use the shadow line which has the most tanking like skills on it. He could use shades to weaken targets attacks. Veil of blades that provides damage mitigation while attacking and crits a lot. The sap essence ability generates ultimate a lot when you are tanking with your friends it heals you and your friends while provide quick ultimate gains. You also use funnel health which gives you a lot ultimate because it heals your group and it is a siphoning ability which allows you gain more ultimate. With the quick ultimate gain you can use veil of quickly to protect yourself and allies and providing damage. IMO opinion Nightblades should be better tanks than sorcerers but Templars and Dks have better skills for tanking. He could gave better information on the nightblade tanking but it shows that he really did not that much knowledge in night blade and sorcerer abilities.
I think we can easily take more than one target. At least 5 mobs at the same time. As Dragoknights we have plenty aoe skills for damage. So we dont need stuff as second weapon, just Sword and shield twice. On trials u should add decrease armor to your weapon (increases Dps to stamina dpsers "100+"). Use araments every 6 seconds.(11 weapon dmg and 30 crit) helps alot at your teamates.
good guide ^^ to sorc tank - I play him a bit in other way and it works too (not so easy as the DK or Templar but good too) I use shuttering prison instead of talons from DK, Bound Agis or more armor (playing complete in light armor ^^) silver lash to pull (very nice alternativ to lash from DK) Ring of Protection or Degeneration .. However very good guide :D !! My guild mats love this too! Thanks!
Thanks for the advice. I like the details at the end of the video about the abilities to have on the weapon bars. I hoped you would do the same for the Templar. Maybe that can be found on your website.
Any Class can tank just as well as any other. its all about the gear and not about the skills you can make up for your classes short comings i with the sword and shield skills, Basically like healing. NB in particular has shade a 30% reduction in enemy damage this is massive since nova is just as powerful. You want to steam role a boss with dps pick NB so he can dps/tank and you all take less damage. NB veil ult is arguable the best aoe tanking ability in the game. one drop can wipe any adds and you take almost 0 damage. Also never ever ever rely on armor is hard caped at 50% that sucks. 3 block reduction jewelry will give you inst 50% from blocking and you never run out of stam. Block casting is op and you stop most cc to.
I'd love to hear how you feel about sorc tanking after all these updates. I have a dk tank, a templar tank (my main tank) and recently just rerolled my breton sorc to tank. I swear its the most fun I have tanking. Its a strict magicka build (because Im dependent on hardened ward) it's decent at worst imo. I dont think its the best choice for trials unless I switch up armor sets
coming from FF14 hearing talk you about "doing dmg as a tank" ist comfort zone for me (good tanks are supposed to focus on offensive stats only and kinda expected to be close up to DPS jobs dmg wise), the "having to block" is what sets me off ... so I shouldn't be attacking all the time ?
Went as a tank for AA,they told me to switch to dps cause we dont need another tank thta with just 1 was enough and the tank was just needed for 2 bosses.I got dissapointed by that.Dont know about Hel Ra.And for the 3rd trial i heard tanks are heavily needed. So,looks like ZOS noticed how tanks were not really needed at least in AA and they did better for the new Trial.
AA you dont really need a dedicated tank unless on the axes on the Mage, sure. However, Hel Rah Citadel and Ophidian Sanctum are different as a tank is essential. In order of difficulty AA ranks the easiest by far, I mean nobody even uses the mechanic on the first boss, but just stacks ontop of eachother and drops damage reduction ultimates.. AA is however a unique example in that it is very anti-tank, try running HRC or OS without a dedicated tank and you'll quickly realise that they are unbeatable. Two bosses in HRC do about 2k damage even when you block with a sword and shield and the first boss in OS does about 2.5-3k damage when you block. AA is a shitty example and people always focus on that one when talking about tanks being worthless, even if there are two other trials where it is not the case.
Pretty nice guide. It make me to look on my tank build from different side (and maybe rework a little). But I also have a note to your build. You use magma shell. It's not bad ultimate, but as a tank you might be like a werewolf ult for passives. It allow you to gain ult a little bit faster for taking + add some stam regen. And one more. Why your stats are so low?
Ashy Samurai I am now a Werewolf as this was prior to patch 1.5. Stats as in like health and magicka? I'd have to recheck my gear and see but I've upgraded and moved on since then.
What are your thoughts on using Dark Exchange for a Sorcerer tank? With Lightning Form being used often (group AoE damage as well as armor buff sounds nice), Sorcerer tanks are pretty reliant on magicka so it feels like it would be pretty decent in terms of some self-heal as well as getting some more of that magicka back. Or is the amount of stamina it eats up not worth it since stamina is what you need for blocking and interrupting?
vigkvagkv2 I just think stamina is too important as a tank, plus when would you channel it? If you don't block, you die. I haven't tried it though but doesn't seem very logical.
interesting points ,if anyone else wants to discover the elder scrolls online tips and tricks try Loctavan Scrolls Expert Strategy (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my partner got amazing results with it.
PBoogerwood He's magika based, all tanks usually enchant all their gear with prismatic so their stamina usually sits around 20k without any attribute points spent in stamina and then racial passives apply. Magika DKs are effective because their magical abilities restore stamina, also heal, snare and debuff. His play style in this build is "to do damage while being tanky" magika has so many more shields and debuffs. Its a matter of preference and play style.
BeOhBeK Good DPS should stick to their rotation, even one of their abilities does more damage than the synergy, so instead of wasting their time breaking rotation to use a synergy that doesn't do as much damage as their abilities, they should just stick with their abilities. But synergies are like free DPS and if you have undaunted passives, they give you resources back. So if you are running low, it is a better idea to use a synergy instead of 2 whole seconds for a heavy attack. But in trials, tanks and healers should be doing synergies. Main tank for resources, off tank/healers for the the dps since they don't do a lot of damage themselves.
I'm downloading ESO onto my Xbox one right now, and I'm really interested in a tanking build, as I think everyone is gonna want to be a stealthy damage dealer and I don't want to be another one of those. In your personal opinion, which race would be better for a tank, Orc or redguard? Either way I'm gonna be a dragon knight werewolf, just like your Nord in here. An answer to this would be highly appreciated!!!
There are only two skills in the game that apply a taunt as their regular effect, but there is a set that drops in one of the Imperial City dungeons that will add a taunt effect to any charge abilities that you use. So if you REALLY wanted to, you could technically have a couple more.
i just started playing ESO. I got a High Elf, Sword and Shield, Templar. I want to build him into a healing Tank. What skills should i focus on leveling up as well as armor class i should have him wearing? Any tips would be appreciated.
Would a heavy armor Breton Templar be a good tank so I don't have to level up my magic and I can pop bubbles more etc and point my other points into magic and stamina or should I use a red guard or Orc.
That you *CAN* do something does not mean you should, or that it's equally good. That's something I think a lot of people forget, they seem to think that since I'm allowed to tank in a bikini, it must mean it's equally good as full plate armor. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that we get the freedom to do whatever we want, it just means you also have the freedom to make less effective builds. Yes you can make it work with anything, but everything else being equal, you would do better with a classic tank setup IMO. Think about it. If every armor set can be equally good at every job in the game, then why have different armors at all? It defeats the whole purpose of choice. The ability to choose everything is in reality no choice at all. I firmly believe the developers did not want to make that mistake, so the main stereotypes are still best at what they are supposed to do, they have just blurred the lines more than a typical MMO.
I am wondering, I recently created a Khajiit Nightblade (because I'm a lore nerd) so I could pull of some sort if assasination! But the idea of tanking suits my placestyle so much better! Could I just skill her in heavy armor, sword & shield etc. and still get away with it? It's just the racial passives that wouldn't fit that well:/ Thanks! ;)
TheGamerThing Honestly yes and no, take what I say with a grain of salt because Im no expert tank, if your using a greatsword or tow hand weapon yes because they are built to defent with a single weapon, if your using a single hand weapon, then no because when you block without a shield youll take more damage because you lack an item that's sold and laying around everywhere lol
+[RHCP] Tennek127 you could use buffs like from magic to give you an edge and then the one handed damage buffs then its possible hard to do but possible
+Justin Ayers but thats coming from oblivion and skyrim ive not played eso yet but it looks similar to them compared to guild wars and diablo so i could be wrong but that should work
This is a pretty old video. Nightblades are actually pretty good now, and i play a sorc tank just fine. Everyone is decent just a different play style. Dragonknights and templars are still slightly better but its all preference imho. 1.6 changed ALOT. for pvp stacking impenetrable is no longer nearly as important because t doest stop the enemy from criting only reduces the bonus dmg so dps still get the procs. Also a lot of the classes now have stamina morphs so things have swayed more to stacking pure stam unless youre a sorcerer you still want to go magicka.
Thank you Michael. I just know for a fact that I want to play a Heavy armored class. Do stats affect weapons? Such as Bows, Two-Handed Axes, and Swords? And you NEED a Shield to tank, eh?
any tank is going to be 5 out of 7 heavy armor for the health bonuses and armor.... this video came out before the soft caps were removed so you need the additional armor. the stats that affect weapon say they affect weapon dmg such as Major Brutality buff gives 20% weapon dmg... you ABSOLUTELY need 1 hand and shield to tank. Its not necessarily the added armor from a shield but the buffs in the 1 hand and shield significantly reduce damage when blocking... at the cost of stamina, there are certain unavoidable abilities that will either kill you or do SERIOUS dmg unless you block them. and np man
Jaffaftw dom If you were only for taking damage, then you want to dragon knight so you can have armor buffs or Templar so you can heal yourself. If you were sorcerer then you have 2 companions to back you up. Even nightblades have a passive that gives bonuses to heavy armor. I think your build wouldn't be the best for purely taking damage, but it would function as an effective tank. My recommendation is your build with everything except change sorcerer into a knightblade/templar. Hope this helps!
Really want to get into eso tanking, been playing for a while but not too much either. What class should I start with? I have played tons of other mmo's and been raid healer, and raid tank etc. But not in eso before. Any best suited class, and what addons should I go for? Thanks awsome video!
also.. I like ftc for general tracking. Keeps your buffs/debuffs visible. Gives you actual numbers and percentages in regards to health and resources and ticks current incoming vs outgoing damage/healing which is nice
+For You you'd think. those definitely help with resources but the toggles take up a lot of ability slots. my set up works fine and my sort tank is my favorite but I do think tanking with other classes is a lot easier.
+For You I feel you. my sort tank is on the squishy side and relish a lot on hardened ward, but she pulls about 8k Dps easy. my Templar tank is my most durable tank but does very little dmg
sword and board / bow is a good 1 for templar got ur aoe dmg on 2ed bar with bow and sweep and heal ulti i personaly use a few skills off the undaunted skill tree but mostly use wep and class skills and it does nicely but i run a impirial so the racials for tanking are great but could def make it work on a high elf
Any class can use any weapon set, and the only two taunts in the game are both accessible by skill lines that are not exclusive to any class. Taunting is the most important feature available to a tank, as your job is to take damage and taunting is what forces things to attack you. Sword & shield is basically going to be your bread & butter as a tank due to the damage mitigation provided by the shield and passive skills, the availability of a taunt very early on, and a charge which will allow you to quickly intercept threats when your party is in trouble. For my other skills on my DK's main bar I use the power bash from the sword & shield line as a single-target stun for a bit of extra control, though piercing javelin would serve the same purpose with greater range. I'm also running spiked armor with the morph that adds a damage shield just to absorb a bit of extra damage, and as a templar I'd replace it with your sun shield skill which appears to grant a much larger shield in exchange for the resistances that the DK skill gives. Use the last slot however you want. I use the DK's AoE snare to control larger groups that can't reasonably be taunted. It's nice to have, but you won't have that option on a templar. Maybe try the rune focus skill, which will grant you major resolve and focus for increased resistances?
Ok so I want to tank and I was wondering if I could be a dark elf vampire DK but idk if that could work out, if anyone could help me on this situation that would be great. ☺
i recon food n potions n stuff are annoying and some people cant do certain builds unless they want to spend ages getting over level 50 their should be a universal race and ive got a realy good idea for this wich is playing as the robots in clockwork city and instead of armor n stuff they would be parts and limbs and upgrades to swap out limbs heads and so on to upgrade it and it can do anything from healing tanking and damage without haveing to start over and stuff its universal
but they would need to add stations across the map that people in the mashine race can go to to swap out parts on their body and paint the body and stuff like that. it would be like the precurser quest type deal were you had to go get his parts to put him together
honestly i use a dragonknight orc for the armor bonuses. most people just focus on dps races and tank classes but its best if you go all out really. yeah your dps is dog shit but at least groups exist.
Your definetly doing the NB tank very wrong. Wrong morph of siphon strikes. It should be siphoning attacking coz you get resource procs on any hit. Legit in big aoe trash, you will do insane dps and never run dry of resources and you will heal yourself. If you put on a rapid regen before you go in you can solo anything. Or have a funnel health running and you wont die. You can debuff boss with shade. You have the best aoe ultimate ingame for tanking in viel of blades. Sap essence spam will allow you to stack 2/3 viels on top of each other coz of the siphon passive. NB is basically the 2nd best tank after DK with templar 3rd and sorc last, definetly. Would recommend you give it a go with siphon attacks, maybe its also your familiarity but its definitely more fun tanking as a NB.
I can personally vouch for the 100% accuracy of this statement. Nightblade is bar none the BEST and most badass tank. In addition to the endless VoBs and infinite resource reg, you can also throw down Refreshing Path on a pack of mobs and then proceed to circle strafe them while spamming Sap Essence, zipping around the battlefield like a whirling dervish of deadly blood magic, all the while Refreshing Path is passively healing you AND regenerating Stamina AND building extra Ultimate. I can't imagine tanking any other way. The only problem I ran into is that EVERYTHING aggros me because I'm doing too much damage!
CorESO Sorry, I should've put "problem" in quotes. It's a "problem" in the sense that it subverts the Dev's stated goal of wanting you to only tank just the boss and 1-2 adds. It's definitely not a problem for me, since it allows me to tank like I did in WoW.
breton sorc magicka based tank heavy armor one handed and shield/ seducer and armor master skills -restoration staff bound aegis conjured ward lightning form inner fire clannfear ultimate-negate one handed and shield skill 2 bound aegis crystal shards cc that snares idk the name puncture dark exchange clannfear ultimate- storm atro 30000 health rest magicka no stamina this build may sound very very wierd but give it a try make sure the conjured ward is always up ik it is strange but blocking for this build is not that important and does not always need to be done this is a pve build that used the conjured ward as its main defense high magicka recovery and spell cost reduction is important which is why the seducer will be worn with this build rings must have either magicka recovery or spell cost reduction and thief points either in spell cost reduction or magicka recovery warrior police points in bastion and apprentice is whatever u want. in combat when magicka is low you must
Again i repeat never ever focus on armor or reducing the enemies armor it wont increase your damage by much. potentially 10% at most. Some bosses or mobs might have high armor but its rare and most content mobs have little to no armor. What i found is any creature has 0 armor and npc has a moderate amount.
I've tanked everything in the game as a NB. It's not as easy mode as DK tank but it works and works well relying more on player skill than some other tanking builds.
I do not know of any guide that I could recommend for this. I learned mine as I went adjusting as needed, I am sure there are some out there that cover NB though. Currently NB is growing in popularity as a tank and healing class. I am terrible at teaching and descriptions so never made a guide myself. I have to think that with the growing popularity of it there's bound to be such a guide.
Ah, I see why you think NB is the weakest class to tank with, you're doing it wrong. No offense at all, it's a matter of preference in ESO. I have tanked Everything up to DSA with a NB the only thing I'm lacking is the new serpent trial but we'll get to that. The weak point to a NB tank is the lack of CC admittedly, it is a huge drawback. The biggest benefit of the NB tank is it has the absolute best resource management with Siphoning. You don't want funnel health (leave healing the group to the healer) taking swallow soul passively increases the amount of healing you take from ALL sources including swallow soul itself. Under shadow tree Refreshing path is a great tank ability as it draws heal aggro from several mobs while healing you and the group, granted it is a very small heal but I love it for the heal aggro + AE damage + movement speed buff + lastly the small HoT. My NB bar for tanking 1. Puncture (either morph works have used both) 2. Absorb Magic 3. Refreshing Path or Shielded assault depending upon the fight mechanics 4. Swallow Soul 5. Leeching Strikes U:Veil Generally I change my second bar around depending upon the situation, have been known to throw DW secondary for large AE fights or Bow for those that you just can't be toe to toe with. Even have a skill set to range tank/kite with the bow for when certain mobs go all spastic and want to turn into a tornado of death and destruction.
Kraive Moar Yea have some great points and you're right, I'm probably doing it wrong. Like I said in the video, I knew someone would tell me why :) Thanks for the comment.
Deltia's Gaming I love the fact that it is a matter of personal preference in ESO, I have a friend who tanks as a Sorc where I don't even think I could begin to do that nearly as well. Did take him a while to perfect his build tho spending time tanking in all 3 types of armor since Sorc can be naked and cap out armor and spell resistance. Over all, a really decent introduction. Best advice for a would be tank I think is to take the basics but add your own flavor, learn what works for you and what doesn't. Don't be afraid to change something if it doesn't work.
I was really excited to play this when it first came out. Glad I watched someone stream it before I bought it tho. Seems too much like WOW. Just not for me.
The video needs more cowbell along with the rising volume of music...I can still hear you talk somewhat and I assume you were trying to down out that unnecessary commentary about your skills for tanking on this tanking guide later in the video. All that annoying talking in the tanking guide really takes away from the music. Around 18:30 is a great example of this trying to talk over the music.
Deltia's Gaming Actually, I would have preferred to hear your thoughts without the music which is distracting and at some points drowns you out to the point that I can't really concentrate on what you're trying to say. I personally find the music too loud making your commentary more or less pointless and therefore not very useful in a tanking guide video. I was actually looking for information on Templar tanking because I'm not happy with my current Templar dual wield build. I do fine with my Dragon Knight and Nightblade tanks pretty easily dealing with most of what ESO has thrown at me but I was considering a respect for my Templar to heavy armor, sword and shield and looking for something to use as a basis to maybe build my skillset. Your video seems ok, a bit heavy on Dragon Knight but I personally had trouble hearing you with some of the music volume. Maybe you like the music, maybe it works for you but for me its so distracting I can't really concentrate on what you're trying to say.
Deltia's Gaming I actually really enjoyed the change :) liked having the music! Maybe turn it down just a bit so it's more background but that's just a suggestion. I've seen some of your more current videos and didn't notice any music. Watching this older video was a nice treat as the music was really enjoyable :)
Not to troll... seriously though I think it would be best to really play a lot of eso with many different classes and builds before making a tutorial or guide video. Fist off, some classes actually have abilities that do taunt. So your statement about there being no taunting in eso is incorrect. Tanking has always been about controlling mobs and mitigating damage while other players do damage to the mobs and heal the tank. This is the same for eso unless you are playing a class that wouldnt normally be a tank. This off class tanking can also be done in eso but may not be quite as effective for end game. Finally... whats with the pip in youtube vids now that show the vid author sitting at his desk playing the game and talking? Its kinda lame and a bit creepy in an uncomfortable way. It really is. Especially when there's a box of wipes in the frame. Ok that was a troll. ;)
This game is dissapointing, the whole point of ESO was being able to play freely! Like, you mention in the video "Dragonknight best tank, blabla" Clearly everybody who wants to tank are going to FEEL limited to only playing a dragonknight to tank. I often find myself puzzled at how little choice we actually have, if we want to be GOOD at anything, sure i could make my own build based on my play style and interests, but it will be weaker at end game. I hate this, the game should never have had a class system, and if it did, it should have been more restrictive to a certain skill path. Its just a headache.

Thanks Deltia. Some good ideas on abilities I had not thought of or forgotten.
Looking forward to more of these guides! Very nice.
I like the templar as a tank, very healer friendly, it's true I can't do as much dps as a dk, but defensively, you can't beat a templar, especially an Imperial templar :)

Absolutely love the guides, keep them coming Deltia. Bring on a levelling guide I say!
Slim Shifty I do have a written one but yea I need to get on it.
Great guide, Deltia, a lot of good information in this one. Look forward to your next video. Keep it up!
Awesome video, very informative. Thanks for uploading.
Really appreciate this video man it was really informative!
good guide ^^
to sorc tank - I play him a bit in other way and it works too (not so easy as the DK or Templar but good too)
I use shuttering prison instead of talons from DK, Bound Agis or more armor (playing complete in light armor ^^) silver lash to pull (very nice alternativ to lash from DK) Ring of Protection or Degeneration ..
However very good guide :D !! My guild mats love this too! Thanks!
Very nice video! I really enjoy your tips, man!
Great video thanks for putting it together, i like how you showed a tank build with no class abilities. But i agree DK is the best tank.
Thanks for the advice. I like the details at the end of the video about the abilities to have on the weapon bars. I hoped you would do the same for the Templar. Maybe that can be found on your website.
Bad ass music when the fighting starts 🤙
i personally run a imperial sword and board / bow Templar more of a hunker down /support healer/minor dps build but it works :)
Tank is my new favorite type. Sorc WW Tank Life
Whats on your bar for the templar
What is the add on you use to put your health and resources bars stacked closely like that?
mrbuddythecat1 Wykdds enhanced HUD
Come back when you have tanked trials. Trials has more need of a dedicated tank, then all other ESO content combined.
What are the add-ons you use to re-arrange the placement of the health-stamina-magicka bars, and the one for the buff durations above them?
Asaf Cohen Wykkd's Framerwork and Enhanced HUD.
Where you show the two weapons to use you show different powers with each weapon. Does your active powers change when you change your weapons?
What is that ground slam he's doing that's putting fire on the ground?
Question: why are you 50/50 magical and health? Practically all tank builds seem to be stamina based. Thanks!
Hua Kili thanks! I started building a tank and quickly realized Magic is probably more important than stamina. Especially the DK tank.
What shield and sword are you using?
i know this video is old, but why is the inner fire synergy a dps loss?
Music is mad distracting
What class and race are you using in this video?
How should I distribute my points over Magicka, Stamina and Health? (The ones you get when you lvl up)
What abilities are taunts??
I'm downloading ESO onto my Xbox one right now, and I'm really interested in a tanking build, as I think everyone is gonna want to be a stealthy damage dealer and I don't want to be another one of those. In your personal opinion, which race would be better for a tank, Orc or redguard? Either way I'm gonna be a dragon knight werewolf, just like your Nord in here. An answer to this would be highly appreciated!!!
And if I were to do Redguard, would pursuing the sword and shield line be a good choice for tanking?
how would dark elf do for tanking DK
Bretons are also good for magic resistance along with a werewolf bite
okay that nord is Lothar from Warcraft movie!!!
what skills can make a sorcerer a tank?
so there is only two taunts in the game?
Yup
There are only two skills in the game that apply a taunt as their regular effect, but there is a set that drops in one of the Imperial City dungeons that will add a taunt effect to any charge abilities that you use. So if you REALLY wanted to, you could technically have a couple more.
Ice staff heavy attacks taunt now. Thought I'd add in a year late :P
MrVaern doesn't the tormentor set in banished cell do the same thing?
Yup and it's incredibly difficult to hold aggro on the shit loads of mobs that come with every pull. Group gets mad that your not God and disbands
i just started playing ESO.
Pleas make updated version
Most of this stuff should still apply. It's a basics video, it's not a build video.
is the loud boring generic music necessary?
i tried tanking. in pvp i get destroyed in 10-7 hits. i have 50k hp and 20k physical and spell resistance
self heal and get your item sets sorted out
i do self heal, i use dragon blood and have 1.2k health recovery, its just playing on xbox. the break free takes longer then PC.
Dragon blood is a really bad heal. Do you do magicka or stamina DK?
i have 12k magicka and 20k stamina in cyrodil
thats very low
Is this guide still applicable in the current build of the game?
no, but theres updated builds, look on his channel :)
I am wondering, I recently created a Khajiit Nightblade (because I'm a lore nerd) so I could pull of some sort if assasination!
But the idea of tanking suits my placestyle so much better!
Could I just skill her in heavy armor, sword & shield etc. and still get away with it?
It's just the racial passives that wouldn't fit that well:/
Thanks! ;)
+humanity yes you could. the added stam and health passives work well for tanking. not as good as other clasees but a khajit DK would tank well
You could def go a dps tank hybrid. I was thinking about doing that with my khajiit nb as well.
Can i be effective tank with no shield?
TheGamerThing Honestly yes and no, take what I say with a grain of salt because Im no expert tank, if your using a greatsword or tow hand weapon yes because they are built to defent with a single weapon, if your using a single hand weapon, then no because when you block without a shield youll take more damage because you lack an item that's sold and laying around everywhere lol
Maikeru Gaming this is such a wrong answer.
+[RHCP] Tennek127 you could use buffs like from magic to give you an edge and then the one handed damage buffs then its possible hard to do but possible
+Justin Ayers but thats coming from oblivion and skyrim ive not played eso yet but it looks similar to them compared to guild wars and diablo so i could be wrong but that should work
Anyone know what his Inventory add on is?
So I have to become a Templar to be a tank? Or could I be a Dragonknight Tank?
Its not necessarily the added armor from a shield but the buffs in the 1 hand and shield significantly reduce damage when blocking... at the cost of stamina, there are certain unavoidable abilities that will either kill you or do SERIOUS dmg unless you block them. and np man
also there are only 2 taunts in the game and one of them comes from the 1 hand and shield line
Does a nord sorc, heavy armour, shield and sword sound like a good tank? Purely to take damage.
Hope this helps!
why are there multiple comments suggesting a Google search, I'm so confuseddddd
Really want to get into eso tanking, been playing for a while but not too much either. What class should I start with? I have played tons of other mmo's and been raid healer, and raid tank etc. But not in eso before. Any best suited class, and what addons should I go for? Thanks awsome video!
Like he said, you prob want to use a dk. I really think dk takes the least guess work. I feel like sorc tanking is the trickiest.
also.. I like ftc for general tracking. Keeps your buffs/debuffs visible. Gives you actual numbers and percentages in regards to health and resources and ticks current incoming vs outgoing damage/healing which is nice
I never tried that one before. Sounds good! Thanks for the info. I love the sorc class the best.
Is the dragonknight still the best tank?
What Add-ons are you running?
Christopher Morris FTC Cloud Combat and Wykkd's HUD those are the main ones.
Thank you
Is full deadric heavy effective for a tank build?
Does this still apply
no
What addons are you using for this character and where do I download them?
Chargersarethebest86 Here's a video guide on it: th-cam.com/video/WxwbKO68ck0/w-d-xo.html
whats this build? I'd love to do this
i want to make my high elf templar into a tank but dont know how to. can anyone help??
sword and board / bow is a good 1 for templar got ur aoe dmg on 2ed bar with bow and sweep and heal ulti i personaly use a few skills off the undaunted skill tree but mostly use wep and class skills and it does nicely but i run a impirial so the racials for tanking are great but could def make it work on a high elf
+The Crazy Gamer cool I'll give it a try thanks man
Any class can use any weapon set, and the only two taunts in the game are both accessible by skill lines that are not exclusive to any class.
Can you tank without taunt?
Christian Calhoun It will be very hard though you can AoE to get people's attention. You'll need a taunt however.
thats impossible, when your in a group the mobs/boss will target whoever it wants! =P Taunt needed 100%
wat platform do u play on
I wanna tank and I'm new I dunno if I should now
can you make a level 15 tank guild?
level 15 is when you start tanking in the LFG
I'm a noob, first would this build still work, second can this work in pve and pvp,
Good vid
i recon food n potions n stuff are annoying and some people cant do certain builds unless they want to spend ages getting over level 50 their should be a universal race and ive got a realy good idea for this wich is playing as the robots in clockwork city and instead of armor n stuff they would be parts and limbs and upgrades to swap out limbs heads and so on to upgrade it and it can do anything from healing tanking and damage without haveing to start over and stuff its universal
but they would need to add stations across the map that people in the mashine race can go to to swap out parts on their body and paint the body and stuff like that. it would be like the precurser quest type deal were you had to go get his parts to put him together
honestly i use a dragonknight orc for the armor bonuses. most people just focus on dps races and tank classes but its best if you go all out really.
yeah your dps is dog shit but at least groups exist.
The only problem I ran into is that EVERYTHING aggros me because I'm doing too much damage!
tank = take all aggro? no problem here lol
CorESO Sorry, I should've put "problem" in quotes.
It's a "problem" in the sense that it subverts the Dev's stated goal of wanting you to only tank just the boss and 1-2 adds. It's definitely not a problem for me, since it allows me to tank like I did in WoW.
How stamina tanke dk?
Good still.
breton sorc magicka based tank
heavy armor one handed and shield/ seducer and armor master
skills -restoration staff
bound aegis
conjured ward
lightning form
inner fire
clannfear
ultimate-negate
one handed and shield
skill 2
bound aegis
crystal shards cc that snares idk the name
puncture
dark exchange
clannfear
ultimate- storm atro
30000 health rest magicka no stamina
this build may sound very very wierd but give it a try make sure the conjured ward is always up ik it is strange but blocking for this build is not that important and does not always need to be done this is a pve build that used the conjured ward as its main defense high magicka recovery and spell cost reduction is important which is why the seducer will be worn with this build rings must have either magicka recovery or spell cost reduction and thief points either in spell cost reduction or magicka recovery warrior police points in bastion and apprentice is whatever u want. in combat when magicka is low you must
it is
Again i repeat never ever focus on armor or reducing the enemies armor it wont increase your damage by much. potentially 10% at most. Some bosses or mobs might have high armor but its rare and most content mobs have little to no armor.
What i found is any creature has 0 armor and npc has a moderate amount.
so in other words you are saying to not even bother trying to tank as a nb cause we suck at it.
piratehunter1 Not at all, just that I didn't like tanking with them.
do you know of a great nb tanking guide that would be of great help to me?
I've tanked everything in the game as a NB. It's not as easy mode as DK tank but it works and works well relying more on player skill than some other tanking builds.
Kraive Moar do u know of a great guide for nb tanking?
Leeching Strikes U:Veil
Generally I change my second bar around depending upon the situation, have been known to throw DW secondary for large AE fights or Bow for those that you just can't be toe to toe with.
Deltia's Gaming
I love the fact that it is a matter of personal preference in ESO, I have a friend who tanks as a Sorc where I don't even think I could begin to do that nearly as well.
I’ve tried tanking as NB, i did a trial and i totally fucked up. Disappointed 12 people in there. Have any personal tips you can give me?
HELLO DELTIA, AM BRAZILIAN, AM TANK (NORD RANK 16 DragonKnight) WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE BEST ARMOR FOR PVP E PVE? VLW ...
I like temp tank is the best
Clan fear and twilight heals you and 5hey do damage to help the tank...
Jennifur Vultee So you prefer music over narration?
Watching this older video was a nice treat as the music was really enjoyable :)
i hate the song at the start of the video since wish used it for an ad
This is all well and good if you are high level, not any good if you are low level like me, boo hoo sniff sniff
Beany mane I have been modifying my builds for those leveling. I have a new one called T3 where I talk about this.
Beany mane grind buddy. You'll make it. Just grind.
Ok that was a troll. ;)
The skills you show at end of vid for DK tank got to be the worst ive seen. There are far better 1s then that.Retreating maneuver WTF why? What for ?
This game is dissapointing, the whole point of ESO was being able to play freely! Like, you mention in the video "Dragonknight best tank, blabla"
Clearly everybody who wants to tank are going to FEEL limited to only playing a dragonknight to tank.
I often find myself puzzled at how little choice we actually have, if we want to be GOOD at anything, sure i could make my own build based on my play style and interests, but it will be weaker at end game.
I hate this, the game should never have had a class system, and if it did, it should have been more restrictive to a certain skill path.
Its just a headache.
you can't tank
hi everyone ,if anyone else needs to find out about the unofficial elder scrolls online guide pdf try Loctavan Scrolls Expert Strategy (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my co-worker got great results with it.
I\'m not sure but ,if anyone else wants to uncover elder scrolls online leveling guide try Loctavan Scrolls Expert Strategy (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my friend got amazing success with it.
You have to pay for the guide... total bs.
