Great to have you back Shaun. Your videos are really appreciated. Sorry to hear you’ve got some troubling things going on. If you ever wanna an ear to listen you let me know. I live in Newport so if you’re passing? I went to a very dark place about 10 years ago, lost everything I’d worked my whole life for, it was hard to get through it but coming out the other I feel a better human being. So, yeah, if you ever wanna chat let me know. 💯 Anyway great to see you’re committed to the channel despite everything else going on. TBH watching your building work in Portugal was really quite fascinating….perhaps there’s an opening there one way or the other? Cheers! Jonathan
It would be great to meet at some point. Sounds as if you have gone through what I am. Not a nice place. Like you I have learnt so much about my self. Being honest with your self, allows for improvement. Wish I could have understood all of this a long time ago. Not sure if it would have made any difference. This is the one thing we will never find out. Glad you liked the Portugal trip. Apparently from reading the TH-cam diagnostics, not many were bothered, and skipped it. I had a feeling this was going to happen. But I thought some would be interested. Thanks for the comment Jonathan, Really appreciate it. Take care mate. Shaun.

Nice one Sam. Be nice to find some more fishing over here. One day I will get sorted. Next trip Garnffrwd sorted. Can't wait. May even see you Sunday if we are lucky. Thanks for every thing Sam.
Hi Shaun, great to see you back. I’m sorry you’ve been having a tough time and I’ve missed your videos a lot. This one was brilliant…as with every seasonal change I check back to see what I need to do so the timing of this film was perfect. I love the way you’ll give up the prospect of catching more fish just to see which technique works better …..taking one for the team as they say. Our local lake has had problems with stocking for months now so we are down to the bare bones and only very cautious residents left. Saying that in five hours last Saturday I only had two takes…..but the second fish was a very fit double so it has its advantages over catching stockie after stockie. The big fish took a tiny buzzer about three feet from the shoreline. I was lucky enough to see him take the fly with a twist of his head so managed to strike at the right time. Exiting stuff. Keep up the good work Shaun ….cant wait for the next video.👏🎣
Ye been a bit shit to be honest. Never seen it coming. Still in the middle of it. But with time I am getting used to it. A lot of waters are finding things difficult. Its the changes we are experiencing. But for those who can understand whats happening, will benefit. Us boys often switch methods to try things as appose going to the go to method. We find it more interesting. But if you are more interested in numbers, then you would not be doing this. But then what do you learn. That was a cracking fish. My best fish, which was in the water for about three months. I know this as the fishery manager told me. He had put three 20lbers in, and nobody had hooked one. I could see the fish about three foot down. Going around in the same bit of water all the time. It was like watching a basking shark feed. The fish would not chase anything. Just opened its mouth and sucked it all in. Well, my black buzzer was in its path. Great to hear from you mate. Take care. Shaun.
Hello Shaun, I have a new subscriber here! Im really enjoying your presentation. You make it very clear on the educational aspects and i for one really appreciate it ...... Looking forward to viewing your back catalogue . 👍
Thank you so very much. Mind if you end up going a long way back, please excuse me. Way back then I had no idea about editing, and to be honest I did not even want to be seen or heard. This channel was a mistake. It started out as a joke with the boys. But here we are. Thanks again. Take care. Shaun.

Great video Shaun, always informative and I have learnt a lot from your channel, thank you for that. But most important look after yourself, keep safe and well. Dermot
Honestly Dermot it is so easy to see why I do these videos. The response I have had from you and others is just amazing, such kind people. Going onto TH-cam was a mistake. I would not say I enjoy it. But I am creative, and enjoy some of the editing bits. But by far the biggest thing is how it makes a difference for you and every one else. This is why I will continue. No other reason. Thanks for your time in your comment Dermot. And your kind words. Shaun.
Great, so the next one will defo help. I can't help but remember your first comment. It just sticks in my mind. It was about the weather at Garnffrwd. Great to have you back my friend. I peru at the moment but will try to contact you shortly after I get back. I'm still using dry flies the majority of the time I just find it more enjoyable. They call me the dry fly king at my local water. Speak soon , take care.
Can't believe they have not caught on that the dry works on your water. They still plugging away with lures. Pre this video we were using more dries as the fish would not even look at the nymphs. Well not as consistently. This will be picked up in the next video. Have a great holiday mate. Lucky sod. Shaun.
Thanks George, I am finding a bit of time, but not what it was. May be over time things will work out, and get more time for editing. Hopefully you won't be waiting to long for the next one. Thanks for the comment and support George. Shaun.
Thanks for the excellent video, a great explanation on the stockies ref hook ups, I was pulling my hair out this week on a large res, lost 5 fish and couldn’t understand why, now I do, and as it happens I found out later there had been a recent stocking ! Always very interesting to see you try new things bucking the tradition to try differently, thanks again
For years my self and so many others have always gone with the myth of stock fish with soft mouths. But it never sat well with me. So about 2 years ago I had the opportunity to study stock fish more closely. And when doing this I used five patterns. From a small 16 natural up to a size 10 apps. Fishing the same shoal of stock fish. It was amazing to watch. Seeing them pay very little attention to the small natural. I did get a few on it, but it was difficult. As I worked my way up towards the apps. Our red weighted one. The difference was amazing. ALL patterns attracted fish. But the difference from the small natural and the apps, as I have said amazing. Each cast had at least four plus fish follow it, and bumping it. And a few to the net. And as we now know, a few lost. All this is on a video on the channel. Can't remember at mo which it is. But if your interested let me know. I will find it. Great to hear from you John. Thanks for the comment mate. Take care. Shaun.

Hi Shaun, im really enjoying your videos they are very informative and inspiring. I hope everything works out for you! Great work in Portugal 👍 I was wondering if you could give me some advice, I have just got back into fly fishing, and my floating line has seen better days. I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction for a new fly line. Something that loads the rod well and able to get extra distance. I have an orvis western 3 7wt tip flex. I had my eyes on snowbee lines but I'm not sure as reviews are few and far between on TH-cam. Thanks in advance if you get chance to get back to me! Regards James
All things considered its your own ability which makes the big difference. However considering your rod and that you would like to load quickly. I would suggest the Barrio lines. This line will perform well with a lot of patterns. It has a 10' front tapper and a 10' belly and the running line is tapered back to the reel. 10' front taper means its presentation is middle of the road. 10' belly means you can shoot the line with as little as two rod lengths out side the rod tip. And a taper on the running line means you can back cast as much as you like without loosing too much energy. The line has got a bit of stretch in it, which can work in your favour. As you have a powerful rod, the stretch will enable you to reduce your tippet strength. The line carries very little memory and sits nice on the water. Check out the Barrio web site. If you are not sure of anything, contact Mike Barrio himself. He is very helpful, and will always give good advise. Thanks for watching the channel James, and I hope you enjoy your new line. What ever it is. Take care. Shaun.
@shaunfishes101 thank you very much Shaun. I really appreciate the information, I will let you know if I get one and put it to use. Thank you once again!
Hi Shaun, quick question, I was going through your videos, brilliant content. Can you please tell me where I can get some snowbee intermediate braided leaders . Can't find them anywhere.
Really difficult now. Thing is they last so long. I think the company realised this and decided not to sell any more. Try looking for the braid but leave out Snowbee. Oh and thanks for the bit, Brilliant Content. Appreciated Mike. Thank you. Take care. Shaun.
With regard to the nymphs and such imitations of real life aquatic bugs, I have had little to no success from them in the small lake I frequent, be that pulled very slowly or suspended as well as a few other methods of fishing them for the resident fish, the freshly stocked rainbows will take almost anything put in front of them. I am still trying to find out what the residents are eating, as when you catch one it is in prime condition, I was thinking it was surface flies, but I do find that it is usually the smaller fish that are caught. Lures always work well for all the fish, I just cannot get past the use of naturals as I am a river fisherman at heart and as such all those lures are something we rarely use on the rivers. Regards and nice to see your videos again.
@@JohnRitson78 not a problem, also a nothing fly in very small sizes and foam daddy's work extremely well with different colours of foam if they've been taking a certain colour. Suspender buzzers as well. Grunter flys in sizes 14 to 18 as well deadly fly. Foam beetles. Use a degrease like fullers earth to hide your mono or fluoro leader especially if it's flat calm or not enough ripple. Best of luck.
Never easy when it comes to resident fish. Although you will get those odd days. First of all every water will present different challenges. I will cover most of this in the next video. So you mentioned fishing the nymphs with a slow pace or static. I very rarely fish nymphs slow. Some times I can't move them quick enough. I did mention this in the video. As for lures in rivers. Have you ever tried it. Lures on the day can be deadly. Check out the next video, I am sure it could help. Look forward to hearing from you at a later date. Thanks for the comment John. Take care. Finding time to get back to the channel is difficult but good. Its a great distraction. Thanks for your support mate. Take care Stuart. Shaun.
Sorry to hear things are difficult mate. I hope things pick up, and it would be nice to catch up at Ellerdine at some stage
@@oldgold5848 Its been a while mate. At this moment I am in the thick of it all. Should have been a solicitor. Can't believe what they charge. But I am determined. I will make Ellerdine this year. A few of the boys are dying to try it. I will contact you in plenty of time. Thanks for every thing mate. Shaun.
Welcome back shaun keep the videos coming
Thanks Andrew, I will do exactly that. Don't think I will have the time to push as many as others. But I will do my best. Thanks again mate. and thanks for your support. Shaun.
Brilliant to get another video from you. Been looking forward to it👍
Thank you so much Martin. Its a real fix for me to get comments like yours. Doing all of this is very challenging for me, but takes my mind of things where I don't want to be. So getting this sort of response makes it all worth while. Thanks again Martin. Shaun.
Good to see you back butty, great video (as usual), totally agree with your views, proper down to earth stuff, take care of yourself mate, the next video will come, when it comes.
PS. Good job on the roof.
Really nice hearing from you again Mike. Just replied to a comment on the roof. I did say that, should have been doing DIY channel not fishing. Apart from fishing, I am learning lots about cooking. Thanks for the comment Mike. Take care mate. Shaun.
@@shaunfishes101 Stay well butty.
Fantastic to see you back Shaun, brilliant video as always. I really love the in depth stuff.
In depth is just my way, don't think I would want to do it simple. I think its nice to know why, rather than just say do this. I am more than pleased to hear you and many others enjoying this style. Obviously it takes a lot more work and time to do. But its worth it if you all enjoy it. Thanks Brian, for every thing. Shaun.
@@shaunfishes101 not at all shaun, you could just film a video and show us the flies you're using. You do videos and show us a lot of thought and process, like the one with the black and green lure and putting wire on it. Can't wait for more videos. When I can't go fishing this is the next best thing. Gets me in the mood for tying when I can't be bothered aswell.
Good to have you back👍
To be honest with you Andrew, its a good distraction for me at the moment. Not that its the reason as to why I do it. Thank you for the support Andrew. Take care mate. Shaun.
Great video Shaun, good luck for the future.
Thanks Gary, I will need a lot of luck. But its about making the most of what is left. Thanks for the comment Gary. Take care mate. Shaun.
Great to have you back
Its great to be back Richard. However I am not out of the woods yet, and time to editing is going to be difficult. But I will do my best. Thanks Richard, nice to hear from you. I am almost sure that this is your first comment. If so, thank you. Take care Richard. Shaun.
Welcome back😃😃🎣🎣🎇🌟🍾
Thanks John. It seems a long time since I sat here replying to comments. Only difference, I am doing it a lot later than I would prefer. All other duties comes first now. I will find a system on day. Thanks for your loyalty and support John. Shaun.
@@shaunfishes101 I think all of your followers appreciate the position you are in, your motto needs to be take care of yourself, then Improvise, adapt and overcome. Do you use any messaging system other than TH-cam?
@@johnowen4888 Sorry John just found this. Been so busy the last week sorting things with solicitors. No Mate I hate computers. Will get into it one day.
Hi Shaun, im really enjoying your videos they are very informative and inspiring. I hope everything works out for you! Great work in Portugal 👍
I was wondering if you could give me some advice, I have just got back into fly fishing, and my floating line has seen better days.
Thank you. Take care. Shaun.
@@shaunfishes101 cheers mate,
With regard to the nymphs and such imitations of real life aquatic bugs, I have had little to no success from them in the small lake I frequent, be that pulled very slowly or suspended as well as a few other methods of fishing them for the resident fish, the freshly stocked rainbows will take almost anything put in front of them.
Have you tried cdc flys like yellow owls and emergers? Down to size 16 or 18?
@@brianr9529 I shall look into that as I have a selection of flies that are similar in the river brown trout box, many thanks.
Take care. Shaun.
@@brianr9529 Hi Brain, Just reading your reply. This is great stuff. More so the fact that people like your self helping out and interacting with others. I must in courage this. This is your channel as much as it is ours. And all information is good information. Thank you.
what landing net are you using?thanks
Its the sharps of Aberdeen sea trout rubber flip net. Have tried quite a few. Very happy with this one. A good few of the boys have the same.
Hello Shaun was good to meet you and Mark last June . Nice to see you again on Hays Castle
