Love this guy, he puts it as simple as he can but with a lot of knowledge. He’s a great teacher online, I couldn’t imagine how much I’d learn if I had him as a teacher face to face.
The perfect "budget" stillwater setup. In British Columbia Jon boat any size Garmin stryker 4 Anchors both ends Scotty rod holders Any fast action 10ft rod Lamson remix with floating intermediate and full sinking line Chironomid, leech, dragonfly, scud Comfy seat and cold beverage.
Great video! Short of steelhead and salmon my biggest fish by far came from lakes. Last 4-5 yrs I’ve switched to fishing the trout speys and never looked back !
In British Columbia we can only use one fly on a line. The lamson remix for stillwater is the best if you want line options but dont want to spend a fortune. I use a scott centric 10ft 5w.
The first time I heard stillwater fly fishing, I thought, "Well, yah, obviously it's still water....fish are usually found in water..." this was before I learned that fly fishermen, I mean fly anglers, had a compulsory drive to rename everything, (bobber is indicator, ocean is coastal, pound is x, string is tippet, pole is rod, etc.) So lakes are now....stills?
Alright so I just 17 minutes of all the gear I need to buy (I hear the cash register clicking over) and then I got 3 minutes of where to find the fish; surely it needs more than 3 minutes? I didn't even get when and how to use the three different types of lines that I just got sold. Might go and buy Devin Olsen's new book on still water fishing.
Really depends on the stillwater. Some have shoals, some are steep shore, etc, etc. Lots of good videos on Stillwater fishing on TH-cam. Check out “Sportfishing on the Fly”. (SOTF)

Lamson Liquid is a great option if you want to affordably have many spools.
In a future vid, if you’d discuss different depths and retrieval methods for different flies, that’d be great.
Check out Phil Rowley and Brian Chan on you tube. They have lots of info on flies depth retrieve.

Have you ever used switch rods for stillwater??
I really like my 11 foot 5 weight switch rod.
