Social media is definitely bad for your mental health or I will say body and mind I definitely feel like I am being Hypnotize when every I use social media specially when I am looking at the screen and scrolling the screen up and down looking for information I feel like i am becoming Transfixed and I can't see or hear anything else that's going on around me I think the smaller the device the worst it is for me like a mobile Phone. I Try to only go on social media Twice a week now and if I do use it I only go on youTube. As for Facebook I Think is the worst thing ever is just a platform that was invented to divide People with all the different comments coming on Their it can't be good for people's mental health along with other platforms similar. Also social media breaks down communication within families. Alot of people think reading a book is boring not at all I think people should Try it. I think social media has is good side and also its got the negative side to it but sometimes the negative out weights the good
it is!! kids and teens have to realize that. to be honest, i was that kid who thought that is wasn't because of phone (social media) and i made a decision to delete all social media and look at me now. i'm the happiest i have ever been. i highly recommend people to delete social media and see the major difference in their lives.
I deleted all of my socials last year and literally not one person has reached out to me since lol I only talk to 4 people on a regular basis now and I love it this way .
right? It's like we can identify who were real with us and the ones that were fake and prolly just using us. It helped me to distance myself from the fake ones.
I deleted ig 2 years ago and I literally have no social life rn , and every time I meet someone new they ask me if I have instagram and each time I tell them no they just leave , it’s like if you don’t have ig we can’t hang out with you , I honestly HATE ig but it’s really necessary cuz I’ve been feelin really lonely
@@AB-oy2dy I deleted social media for two years in my late teens/early twenties and became incredibly isolated in that time. People would forget to invite me to things, I couldn't join university groups and clubs (most of them used social media for memberships and sharing info/events), and people were just generally bad at remembering to include me in things, often "forgetting" I wasn't in certain group chats and so didn't know about things happening. I've personally found since (I'm now 23) that a better approach is to use time-monitoring/blocking on social media apps/websites, and to be extremely picky about who I connect with/what I look at. Unfortunately, I think nowadays not having social media as a young person when everyone is so completely and utterly used to using it to interact is just not a good solution for people who want to be sociable.
@@LucyAlllan I been off Facebook for months now. I still have TH-cam and Tiktok, mainly to grow my channel from my animations I do. I hardly get on my tiktok unless I'm posting a video
@potatogirl social media is really bad at this point. Even when I started talking to a girl online and she's near my area, it's always no I only wanna talk online or they say go to my snapchat, lol. Nobody wants to meet in person at all anymore, it's crazy
idk if this is just me but it feels weirdly dystopian that NOT having social media is considered weird and rare. it’s so so ingrained into our lives- it’s absolutely mind-boggling how dependent our society has been on something that’s so recent - like it’s has a even been around for that long
Yeah I agree - there is alwasy a particular reaction from other people when you say "I don't have social media" when it should be almost normal when we look at the negative effects of it :)
Yeaah. My friends think im weird because i delete all my social media especially instagram. But its the best decision i've ever do. I dont wanna spend my time looking for someone's fake life.
i'm beginning to appreciate how rare and special it is that i grew up without the internet until i was 20 (finally got it in 2004)...it really is a different kind of quality of life when things are quieter.
When I talk to people who do not have it, I tend to compliment them (I am not a Generation Z person by the way, I was born in 1988, but I see huge numbers of people my age who are completely absorbed by their phone as well, my first social media account was on TH-cam, and 2 or 3 years later I had my second account on a Dutch Facebook-equivalent which by that time had been around for 4 years already and many people around me had an account there). People in general get ridiculed for not having social media while I think it takes courage not to have it nowadays, so I tend to turn it around by saying I can really understand it (also from the privacy-perspective). The response is usually something like "Wow...most people think I'm weird for not having it..." and that's just sad... I've been giving informational lessons on high schools for about 2,5 years as a volunteer from mid 2017 to about 2019 and it was weird to see basically each class having several small groups of children who were completely obsessed with checking social media to see if there would be a new like on their latest post, while phones in my graduation year (2004) just started to be able to take supercrappy pictures...
Deleting social media has been a LIFE CHANGER for me. I realized most of my self doubt and depressive thoughts stemmed from me comparing my life to other people's best moments...at first I was a little worried about people thinking I had no social media (being a gen z) But then the FOMO faded away and I realized how unbothered and happy I was....THIS IS YOUR SIGN TO DELETE SOCIAL MEDIA...it will change Ur life for the better!!! EDIT: By social media, I mean insta, FB, tiktok. These platforms are more personal and way more toxic than youtube FOR ME so yeah..
@Tom F youtube is social media but personally i dont find it as damaging as instagram and whatnot,, its more of a place for fun, entertaining/informational vids instead of just posting pictures of your life, which makes it easier for you to compare and find that crippling insecurity. not to say that yt cant be like this at times, but in general both arent reallly the same tbh.
Social media used to be a cool place, especially between 2010 and 2014-2015, but then it slowly became a place that you cannot really feel safe and truly be yourself there, if that makes sense. It was truly a place to have fun and meet new people. Not anymore. Not really.
It's because Obama was trying to look cool until the emperor was caught without clothes on if you know what I mean. Then the global elites are showing their true nasty side now.

My take on social media is if you can’t use it with moderation, delete it. If it negatively effects your mind, delete it. If you leverage it for your business or brand, then that’s okay. But in the end you should be enjoying it but also not allowing it to take over your real life !
@@LucyAlllan I think, deleting social media is such a drastic measure. Social media is actually one of the greatest inventions in human history. The world/humans have never been more connected. Start with turning off notifications and check in once a week. Consider it "entertainment". I have always said that the people deleting social media are the ones using it for the wrong things like approval, comparing, attention-seeking, flexing etc. Where they start associating it with negativity. It is actually a good thing when used to check on friends, check out the news, search for info, organize events & groups around a specific interest, check out funny clips, memes etc. Also anything can be harmful when used without any moderation.

Good for you! That’s great, some people get really carried away & start using it for putting other people down from now I only use Snapchat and all my posts are going to only promote positivity, work, achievements
I saw someone say with the amount of hours scrolling through short videos, imagine how many books you could have finished and new hobbies tried. I've gotten back into reading daily and its so fulfilling c:
2 hrs a day minimum and you'' read 56 books a year if the average book takes 8 hrs to read. And still have time to be around friends. That's if you decide to spend 1 hr online and 1 hr on reading a day
Reading is so great. I just started reading again after like a year and a half (I was unknowingly battling a social media addiction) and it feels. so. good.
2 Years ago I deleted my social media, it made school interaction harder, but it improved my social and communication skills, where I wouldn't look down on my phone every time I'm alone, instead confidently start a conversation with a random stranger beside me.
The school interaction problem is true. It also makes it difficult to find common ground with people when they talk about something they saw on social media. Ofc you can show interest and learn more about it but sometimes people are b* and they have an attitude like “do you live under a rock and you don’t know that?!?!?”
It's here already. Earlier Myspace was an amazing tool for connecting people to eachother IRL. Somewhere down the line social media became the opposite and this bright new future I was promised further dimmed even after the economy crashing. I'm a millenial that is getting close to 2 decades of this nonsense. it's time to cut down
I’m 16 - I deleted my Instagram, Twitter, and Tik Tok in January. Since then I realized how messed up it is. It’s an addiction that keeps getting worse for everyone. I’ve learned how to live in the moment more now! Also I’ve learned to focus on the people in real life around me and value my time with people and my relationships. Also I feel better about myself - at least more stable. It’s not like I feel bad so I post to get validation and feel worse again. Also my opinions and what I like have become more stable and less influenced by random peoples opinions. I could say much more
We're the same. I'm 16 as well and I deleted all my accounts. It's just too toxic. Just like what Lady Gaga said: "Social Media is the toilet of the internet"
I haven't had an IG/Twitter account for 4 years now. It kind of resembles the feeling of waking up at 5am and realizing everyone else is asleep while you enjoy the peaceful moment. I'm glad you took the leap!
Ananya I have that feeling sometimes, I intentionally ignore using TikTok and have still never downloaded it despite FOMO. The addiction to currently using an app is hard, but I can manage continuing not to use it. :)
I unistalled the apps but i kept my accounts, whenever I NEEDED to go on social I generally use the browser version. The browser version doesn't have that addictive feel to it.
Yeah I did the same. I check my FB once a month. I kept getting banned and reported so I stopped using it as much....I got on yesterday for my monthly check and I found out I got reported for a post I didn't post in 2015. I now remember WHY I don't get on Facebook.
It's so sad when someone ask you your username on Instagram and when you tell them you don't have an account they get disappointed like it was necessary to have one

I’m actually getting really bored of using my phone recently which is why I am reducing my phone time, and I realized how time-consuming and energy-draining social media was. I overthink a lot and I feel like deleting social media apps would help me become more calm and have more time to focus on improving my life
I was wondering why I keep feeling so negative all day. It took me so long to realize that I was just being jealous of other people's seemingly "perfect" body, relationships and life
I deleted all my socials minus TH-cam and pinterest 5 years ago and haven't looked back since! Best thing I have ever done for myself mentally, physically, and Spiritually
Take it from someone in her early 30s. Growing up I was completely obsessed and addicted to social media and just being consumed in the online presence. This resulted in my life passing by without me realizing. I had my wake up call when I turned 30 and wondered where’d time go, how the heck am I already 30 and haven’t accomplished anything? How did my sister grow up so quick? How did all my peers get so ahead of me? How did my parents age do fast? Point is, get out before life flash by you.
@@charlottesmom TH-cam was the only thing that doesn’t affect me as much as I usually watch it while doing some other tasks. Plus there are a lot of educational things on TH-cam so I’m definitely here to stay.
@@Hamyhamster24 , The educational stuff would be the hardest for me, I love drawing and painting videos, so much to learn! I too use it to listen to music in the background...while sneaking the 5 second view of the music videos. 😉 If TH-cam or Pinterest ever vanished I'd be miffed.
Regarding FOMO - sure, you'll miss out on online trends, memes, influencer drama etc... But the people glued to their screens are missing out on other, probably more productive things, e.g. hobbies, reading, going out, watching films or finding peace of mind.
I despise all of them so I am not even missing out. TH-cam is the only active thing I go on for useful DIY, Stories and Motorsport racing (Or car crashs/safety tips). Rest of the FOMO is utterly pointless and not entertaining for me to the slightest. Reading a decently long good book is better than the majority of social media, fuck them all!

the worst people I met when traveling a Dutch guy and a German guy with no FB accounts. They were both ultra pretentious and arrogant. So FB is fine if you dont add fake people. If people in your society is fake. Then add foreigners only.
Whenever I am out with friends, we literally cannot do ANYTHING without at least three of the people I am with interrupting a fun moment to take a photo or video to post to Instagram. I think when we are only having fun to post the event on social media, it takes away from the specialness of the moment. Social media is fine under certain circumstances, but I've gotten really tired of doing fun things with my friends only for them to be posting on Instagram the entire time, it sucks.
I saw this went I went to the Van Gogh Alive art exhibit. My boyfriend and I, who don't have social media, sat there watching almost everyone around us viewing the exhibit through their phone screens. You could almost see this manic desperation for a good photo to share in the way they would look around the room. It's depressing. No one is really living for the sake of living, every move is motivated by their online presence. Something needs to change.
Not to be overdramatic but joining the internet/ social media at such a young age (before middle school) is easily one of the worst decisions I’ve ever made, it’s affected my every day life and I strive to undo these effects. In my opinion everyone would be better off if they did. It’s so abnormal and it’s actually asinine how much our technology and phones control us and how it’s just became normal. I probably sound like an angry old person but rather I’m an angry young person who’s seen the deterioration of me and others around me because of a phone... Hate it!
I joined insta when I was 12 years old, now I am 13 and I just deleted the app. Best decicion ever because I wasted time were I could have been educating myself and finding new hobbies
@Da kokonut That’s wild, perhaps set some boundaries between you and your parents’ wishes and explain + show them studies that young people overusing their phones leads to negative mental health consequences, encourage her to let you discover hobbies that aren’t internet based.
One of my worst mistakes. Past four years have been hell for me just because I started using social media at the age of 17 and now at 22 I am nothing. From a focused and hardworking girl to someone who find it hard to pass a day in peace.

i deleted all of my social media a year ago after watching a woodstock documentary with my grandma and seeing how free people once looked. everyone was so engaged in human interaction, singing and laughing. nobody felt the need to record every single second of it and post it to a timeline for everyone to see. they just vibed with eachother, despite being strangers, and appreciated the moment. you deserve to live your own life! you scroll to distract yourself from reality, because reality is deemed “boring”, but reality is a beautiful vast place that’s waiting for you to find yourself in it. reach out to that old friend you miss and plan a lunch date, ride your bike downtown and observe the society you live in, go help out at a rescue mission WITHOUT posting about it to your snapchat or instagram. this is your sign to free yourself from the toxic/manipulative chains of social media. you’ve got this, take back your mental health! ❤️

Social media is like a portable casino in your pocket and you keep getting addicted to it for every second you use it. Remember: If you aren’t paying for the product, you are the product.
I've tried going without social media a few times before. Never was I able to fully commit, yet I noticed how much better you feel immediately. It's wonderful to have more time to yourself, trying out a new hobby or simply just doing the things that make you happy instead of scrolling through endless feeds for no reason. You get caught in it without even noticing how much time you waste every day. You do not consume, it consumes you.
There were many years where social media was amazing and made me feel less alone. But as an adult of 24 now I just feel like it's weighing me down and I've wasted so much time on it. Sometimes I want to give it up for good, but then I look around and every single person my age will only contact me if I use it. I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons that will come from giving it up. I may feel more lonely, but it already feels lonely when you look at "active" online face bubbles that never message you anyway. I feel like I wasted time where I could have learned a skill, tried something new, etc.
I'm a similar age. Honestly, why you might not find hundreds of people willing to be your friend when you don't have socials, you will find people. These people may actually want to be closer friends with you because your conversations will be real and you'll make more effort to connect in real life. The friends I have left are amazing. One knew I was sad about something and she sent me a special gift from a boutique she visited on a road trip and had remembered (she ordered it directly from their website) and sent it to me to show she cared. Real friends are better than thousands of social media friends that I used to have. x

Why care what the herd thinks? You want people that care about you and push you to do your best in your life, not those that judge you for doing something different. Wrong is wrong even if everyone does it, right is still right if nobody does it.
Honestly they are probably just insecure because they know they can not give it up and don’t understand how you were able to. Social media becomes an addiction. Just like people with alcohol problems will say something negative when they meet a sober person.
I deleted social media such as (Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter, Snapchat) because it was mentally draining me and I felt like I was not PERTTY enough not SKINNY enough not WORTH it at all that led me to have horrible thoughts about myself and i used to have anxiety attacks because I was afraid to be alone because I thought I was not enough. I deleted all of my acc for about 5-6 months now and I go to therapy to help me get my self esteem a little bit higher. I feel so much better about my self and I’m getting my confidences back and I feel like I’m free. Of course there’s days that I’m self conscious like everyone else but overall I’m really happy.
In my experience, social media simply stopped being fun. That's the best way I can describe it. I had a Twitter account for a bit, but it wasn't enjoyable and I eventually moved on. I still love the legacy internet, stuff like old-school discussion forums, etc. I don't think social media improved upon them in any way.
Social media especially on Instagram, we get jealous, can’t stop comparing to other ppl sometimes so I recently try not to see others posts and story just posting my own photos but I guess I should stop using it soon, thank you so much for this video and I really liked other videos too especially which is about you need to stop caring about other ppl :)
just deleted my instagram because it took a toll to my mental health. whenever i post a photo, i would always obssess with the numbers. i would get 300 likes on one photo and then 200 on the next one. i would always get anxious if my posts dont improve from the last one. i also doubted my self worth everytime someone unfollows me. so thanks for making this video to spread awareness to the dangers of social media. ❤️
It is addictive. The entire premise of social media platforms is to create an addiction in users. Millions, if not close to billions of dollars, are spent on understanding neuroscience to heighten the addictive nature of social media. LOL
I think Ryan meant to say that it's ridiculouis that deleting social media, which should be something very simple and that didn't need to impact our everyday life, is treated as if it's something otherwordly
@@yuri2604 It's treated as "otherworldly" because it legitimately is. It's been proven that it's as addictive as some drugs, and so many people get addicted to it at a young age. So it is really rare for people to quit
It is very addictive. I firmly believe that it has shorten my attention span by quite a lot it's very destructive. I know what I should do but I'm not. I want to do something productive but I always delay. it's sad.
Similarly, I created my social media accounts in 2010- at 10 years old just like you. I deleted my social media accounts last year just before the pandemic hit and stay-at-home orders were in place. It was such fortunate timing. I was hyper-fixated on the amount of likes and comments on every post. I was obsessed with my outward appearance and whether or not my caption was “witty enough” or “trying too hard.” To put it simply, I cared about everyone else much more than myself. This took a toll on me and my physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. After 10 years of people-pleasing and living my life for others, this toll manifested itself in the darkest of ways. Over the course of this last year, while being at home with a lot more time for introspection, I have been able to heal and work on myself. Not only that, but I realized how I had never felt more liberated and happy. Almost like this was the first time in 10 years where I have been able to finally breathe. Thank you for sharing.
Wow, what an inspiring story Colleen! I completely relate to the hyper-fixation on likes and comments! It sucks as a teenage girl, but glad to see you have worked on it over the last year :)
Deleted social media a few months ago. My insecurities and habit of constantly comparing myself to others have almost completely disappeared. I love myself more 💕 Kudos to anyone who's able to do this and lead a healthier lifestyle as a result 🙏🏽
I can't really delete my social media because I'm a photographer who also studies digital marketing... But I've learned to control it, not over sharing my life, not comparing myself to others, realizing that I need other stuff to do that's much more important than social media, etc etc. If you get inspiration from others when you're online, and you control your time, I believe it's nice
I decided to delete my social media because I realized I never wanted the spotlight it gaves me and trying to prove yourself to everyone. The challenging part of this is when your friends and family are into social media and they can't respect your decision and privacy.
I’ve definitely had an anxiety increase lately because of social media. I take breaks, but I don’t know if I could delete all my apps forever. You’re amazing!
The only times I feel insecure is when I see pictures of myself or others online, so I’m rarely on social media anymore, and I’ve never been as happy or never felt more free.
As a teenager it’s so scary to not have social media. I want to keep TH-cam and go on Pinterest and Reddit in moderation but besides that I never want to go down a social media hole again. At the same time I feel tempted to download Instagram and Snapchat for dating purposes in the future even though I know I don’t want to date someone who just wants to chat with me...
Yup deleted all my social media a couple days ago. It was too overwhelming for me and honestly the attention was fake. I feel way less anxious without it
TH-cam is the hardest for me. I use it educationally and love keeping up with politics etc. But then I also end up watching vlogs, style videos etc so then I end up comparing myself to other women and it makes me feel worse so it's a hard ball to juggle :/
@@priyachowdhury9075 you have an Google extension called "Block Site" which lets you set 4 websites to block. You can even set up a passcode to add more friction to the process
The only social media I use now is youtube. I deactivated my facebook because it took soooo much of my time, theres so much sh*itposting and tooo many toxic people who think they know everything about whats right and whats not. I only use TH-cam because unlike others, you can learn soooo many useful things here because of creators like you who are spreading these useful knowledge. I really admire it 🙂
Hey baby Yoda, I agree with everything you said! You’re right, that’s why I won’t delete TH-cam, I don’t feel the same toxic energy on this platform! There’s so much to learn here 😇
i also feel like when you have social media, you're almost living to 'post'- like I've been so many people (incl my mum!) at nice places, worrying sm about the right angle, and the nice lighting to get that perfect picture to post on fb or insta- but at the end of the day, its ur life, and if u have some close friends to share ur life with on messages, why should you care about the rest of the world
I’m sure I’m a lot older than you but I applaud you for taking action on your mental health. It’s inspiring and very responsible of you. Keep using this strategy throughout your life. You may think you’re being “left out” but in reality, they’ll be the ones missing out. XO ❤️
I am born in 1996, I had internet pretty late in 2009 when i was 12, with yahoo messenger as contact method. Even if i had a pc in 2003 when i was 7. I will not list the reasons why I did not have internet until that age. Parents with backward mentality etc. Anyway I made my first account of facebook in 2011 when i was like 15. So a teenager. And instagram in 2015 when i was almost 20,in fact that was the period when instagram exploded. Because before that, mostly just people with IOS had instagram. Honestly, I saw a lot of people In my life who were only 10-12 years old and already had instagram or facebook. And i kinda never understood why they need it at that age. As i said when i was 10 i didn't have fb, or internet and i lived a decent life. I watch cartoons a lot. I never had tik tok or snapchat because i consider them irrelevant. Having social media at a more mature age. It didn't affect me, the thing with the people flexing and so on. I stopped posting pictures of me in 2016 on facebook mostly because i got tired, I wasn't the type of guy who takes a lot of selfies, also i think one of the main reason was i didn't even took to much likes, and was like what is the point, no one actually really cares. The same thing with instagram too. I stopped posting pictures in 2018. On instagram i am following a very selective and small amount of people. Just people that inspire me and motivate me. I don't like the kind of posts with females who are pregnant or who post every single day just pictures with children, also pictures with their pets. Also i don't watch to many youtubers because i don't wanna keep up with their life . Same thing on instagram. I wanna drive some cars, not seeing others drove them, or what is their opinion about them. I wanna travel, not seeing others traveling . The problem today is that many people instead of doing what they love, they look at others doing what they wanted to do. Also i unfollowed a news page on facebook from my country, because literally all I saw was news about covid, every single time, how many people got infected, how many people got cured, how many people got vaccinated, a new strain, and this nonsense has put limiting beliefs in my head like i can't meet new people or i can't date new girls,i can't travel because of restrictions and stuff like that. Since i unfollow that news page,i feel sooo relaxed and good. Social media is good, unless you don't follow all the nonsense, and irrelevant things. And the real reason why i don't post thing anymore on social media is that I absolutly love my privacy. No one know what i'm doing ,who i'm chilling with, where i'm at, with who i might be . Also keep this in mind and always remember these : - Just because you don't share it on social media, doesn't mean you are not up to big things. - Maturity is when you stop posting everything that happens in your life on social media. - In a world where everyone is overexposed ,the coolest thing you can do is to maintan your mistery - You don't need pictures of your relationship all over social media to confirm that is strong. - Don't give them the privilege of knowing everything about you. - Privacy is power ,what they don't know, they can't ruin. - In this day and age ,Privacy is the biggest luxury. - Save the best for yourself, no need for everyone to get the privilege of a window into all the precious moments and aspects of your life
i was born in 1997 and i really relate to your story! You're absolutely right. if you're using social media you have to always be conscience of who you're following and if what you're consuming is negatively affecting you, to the point where it becomes too much of a hassle. At this point i only go through social media as a rare occasional visit especially if I'm searching for something important or specific
i’m thinking about deleting instagram it’s so hard to enjoy it when all of the people on my timeline are getting 1000-5000 likes per photo and i can’t even get 10
I feel like I'm living my life wrong whenever I go to Instagram 😐 decided to deactivate it today. Even though my interest lies in visual aspects of life, such as art, fashion, photography I think it's time to just be and not make myself feel bad.
Just get a decent Digital camera and take pictures for it, the moment is more personal and special if you taken the photos and didn't need the urge to share it across for some strangers. Mines a DSC-W800 currently and it's amazing for what it does!
@@anupreetiboro1352 Yes! I did that last summer in order to strengthen my mindset and it really really helped me. I no longer seek likes, validation, nor compare myself to others. I simply use social media to inspire and be aspired. I can care less about anything else! Just using social media for the good things it can bring. It took a long break from it to get to this point but it is very possible. Social media may simply not be for everyone, but I see it as a place of opportunity when used with good intentions.
I wish more gen Zs were like you. You understand the toxicity of social media, yet nearly everyone your age (and mine) bathes in the instant gratification that it offers, while disregarding the ill effects of longterm usage. PROUD OF YOU!! 💪
I think for me the biggest reason why I hated social media always was, that I was bombarded with the beauty and affluence and great times of other people. I even hated it when I would watch the posts and stories of friends. It ALWAYS caused FOMO and anxiety. It may have to do with me usually chilling aka doing nothing while im scrolling on social media and that caused a discrepancy in my brain. Me doing nothing - everybody else doing so much and being great at that. It fucked me up. But also posting something on social media didnt feel good either because its all about the numbers. I only post creative things (photography) but it did not feel good at all to share on instagram, there is no authenticity there. Everybody just wants attention and validation and it stinks and is too uptight. Also, I can only be so happy and supportive to an extent. I cant continue to be happy and elated for someone elses beauty if Ive seen 23 beautiful women on insta that day. My brain will then start to compare myself even if Im happy and content with myself. Instagram is literally one of the worst things to happen to society and I will stand by that forever. All the good things that it brought you wonder? Well you coudlve easily achieved positive effects through other means. And i stand by that.
I feel the same way as you do towards instagram. I see it as a platform where you just compare yourself to others, and the worst thing of all is when you start comparing yourself to your friends. Whenever they post something where I wasn‘t invited in or didn‘t participate at and seeing that they had a great time while I was at home and all I was doing was basically nothing, I just feel miserable. I don‘t feel confident enough posting a picture of me, yet even taking a selfie of myself makes me uncomfortable because I already start thinking that I‘m not as beautiful as others (or even my friends). So here we go again with comparing yourself to others. I‘ve taken a break from instagram a while now, and I only go there if someone texted me. I just wish that i couldn‘t care less about other peoples opinion. But that‘s not the case...
Good for you!!! Everyone acts like I’ve done some revolutionary act since I’ve got off of social media, which I think speaks in and of itself. The weight and value that we place in social media is a bit scary, considering it’s just some meaningless internet software. I’m so glad I disconnected. My life used to be completely sunk into my accounts..
Haven't had anything except youtube since july 2020. It's been really impactful. If you are scared of committing completely, you can deactivate some of your social just to see how things go. I really recommend it.

social media is like a toxic relationship. at first it’s hard to quit but after a while you will realise it’s for your own good.
What a good analogy ! so true

I hardly get on my tiktok unless I'm posting a video

idk if this is just me but it feels weirdly dystopian that NOT having social media is considered weird and rare. it’s so so ingrained into our lives- it’s absolutely mind-boggling how dependent our society has been on something that’s so recent - like it’s has a even been around for that long
I feel you. It hasn’t been around for that long but it’s consumed us so much. Dystopian was the right word to use here.
I've been giving informational lessons on high schools for about 2,5 years as a volunteer from mid 2017 to about 2019 and it was weird to see basically each class having several small groups of children who were completely obsessed with checking social media to see if there would be a new like on their latest post, while phones in my graduation year (2004) just started to be able to take supercrappy pictures...
i deleted social media about two months ago and 90% of my anxiety disappeared :)

The FOMO is the reason so many people are still on social media even after understanding what it is doing to them.

What is FOMO?
@@inversion9651 Fear Of Missing Out
Ananya Thanks for the answer.
This is a really nice slow transitional way to do it
Yeah I did the same. I check my FB once a month. I kept getting banned and reported so I stopped using it as much....I got on yesterday for my monthly check and I found out I got reported for a post I didn't post in 2015. I now remember WHY I don't get on Facebook.
Me too! Browser is slower, so it makes the things easier haha

I'd have to ditch TH-cam it is my biggest life waster....and that ain't happening! 😆

Regarding FOMO - sure, you'll miss out on online trends, memes, influencer drama etc... But the people glued to their screens are missing out on other, probably more productive things, e.g. hobbies, reading, going out, watching films or finding peace of mind.
Well said :)
"Pepole glued to there screens" exactly but that's not everyone. It's not social medias fault. Its the same with reading books some people get so addicted to reading that's all they ever do.
I’m 15 and I’ve never had social media before because of my strict parents. I tend to miss in a lot of things and have a hard time contacting my close friends. I just felt different than everyone else and wanted social media more than ever so I don’t fell like an outcast. After watching this video and looking at the comment section, it made me realize how toxic social media is and how it’s just a waste of time.
Yeahhh, you're really not missing much. Can't you contact your friends through text or phone calls?
hmmm what are you leaving this comment on? TH-cam! everyone here is saying how they dont have social media anymore but....they're saying it on a social media...

Whenever I am out with friends, we literally cannot do ANYTHING without at least three of the people I am with interrupting a fun moment to take a photo or video to post to Instagram. I think when we are only having fun to post the event on social media, it takes away from the specialness of the moment. My boyfriend and I, who don't have social media, sat there watching almost everyone around us viewing the exhibit through their phone screens.
Doesn't it? Deaktivation button makes wonders. And I love your last sentence. It's so true.
Well it’s never too late! Now’s your chance 😇
Real friends are better than thousands of social media friends that I used to have. x

It is hard, and people think it’s so weird! But it’s actually the opposite, I find that I’m so much happier without social media but people who still have social media cannot understand why
Why care what the herd thinks? You want people that care about you and push you to do your best in your life, not those that judge you for doing something different. Wrong is wrong even if everyone does it, right is still right if nobody does it.
Sad how people think you're either a loser, dead, Depressed, or cowardly if you drop off of Social Media lol. Shows how bad our society is.

Yes, I think I will do that too...
just deleted my instagram because it took a toll to my mental health. whenever i post a photo, i would always obssess with the numbers. i would get 300 likes on one photo and then 200 on the next one. i would always get anxious if my posts dont improve from the last one. i also doubted my self worth everytime someone unfollows me. so thanks for making this video to spread awareness to the dangers of social media. ❤️
Thank you so much John! So happy to hear that you understand the problems and are looking to fix them :)
I deleted IG 3 years ago because of this exact reason. I’ve been feeling a lot better about myself since.
Bro I only get like 10 likes on my pics. Not a ton but I constantly have to remind myself that it isn’t a popularity contest but shit
That's pretty much exactly how i react too. Can't be good for you
Can relate to this. I'd also think about this while on vacations. Since deleting all socials being on vacation is a lot more fun.
It's pathetic that people deleting social media is like making the commitment to quit drug use and go into withdrawal.
It is quite literally an addiction. Every like and notification triggers so much dopamine to be released.
I want to do something productive but I always delay. it's sad.
I haven't had social media since 2013. I pray, smile and try to love people. I've never been happier.
Nice!
I love myself more 💕
Kudos to anyone who's able to do this and lead a healthier lifestyle as a result 🙏🏽
Woooooooow Robyn thanks for sharing your story - happy to hear you are feeling better :)
It can be challenging sometimes yes but the cost is worthwhile!
That's a great thing to be aware of it - good job Elie!
I feel way less anxious without it
Nice! I am so happy for you:)
TH-cam is the hardest for me. I use it educationally and love keeping up with politics etc. But then I also end up watching vlogs, style videos etc so then I end up comparing myself to other women and it makes me feel worse so it's a hard ball to juggle :/
Yeah I feel you with that, however you can use a chrome extension that blocks you from using it to much and takes away most of the algorithm stuff :)
@@priyachowdhury9075 you have an Google extension called "Block Site" which lets you set 4 websites to block. You can even set up a passcode to add more friction to the process
I love keeping up with politics too, which is why I haven't deleted instagram yet, but I'm considering it
Politics... Which channels do you watch?
i deleted instagram and Facebook, now i waste my time on TH-cam watching stupid shorts🤦🤦🤦
There’s so much to learn here 😇
i also feel like when you have social media, you're almost living to 'post'- like I've been so many people (incl my mum!) at nice places, worrying sm about the right angle, and the nice lighting to get that perfect picture to post on fb or insta- but at the end of the day, its ur life, and if u have some close friends to share ur life with on messages, why should you care about the rest of the world
So true!
I’m sure I’m a lot older than you but I applaud you for taking action on your mental health. It’s inspiring and very responsible of you. Keep using this strategy throughout your life. You may think you’re being “left out” but in reality, they’ll be the ones missing out. XO ❤️
wow thank you so much for your kind comment ❤️
Also keep this in mind and always remember these :
- Just because you don't share it on social media, doesn't mean you are not up to big things.
- Maturity is when you stop posting everything that happens in your life on social media.
- In a world where everyone is overexposed ,the coolest thing you can do is to maintan your mistery
- You don't need pictures of your relationship all over social media to confirm that is strong.
- Don't give them the privilege of knowing everything about you.
- Privacy is power ,what they don't know, they can't ruin.
- In this day and age ,Privacy is the biggest luxury.
- Save the best for yourself, no need for everyone to get the privilege of a window into all the precious moments and aspects of your life
wow! thanks for sharing these pieces of advice!
i was born in 1997 and i really relate to your story! You're absolutely right. if you're using social media you have to always be conscience of who you're following and if what you're consuming is negatively affecting you, to the point where it becomes too much of a hassle. At this point i only go through social media as a rare occasional visit especially if I'm searching for something important or specific
Aaaa i love this comment! 💚
Damn not everyone is an introvert chill
i’m thinking about deleting instagram it’s so hard to enjoy it when all of the people on my timeline are getting 1000-5000 likes per photo and i can’t even get 10
same. social media increases my insecurities tenfold about not being popular enough..
@@thecoolprettygirlful totally agreed, I have been much more productive these days without Instagram🙌🏻
I wish more gen Zs were like you. You understand the toxicity of social media, yet nearly everyone your age (and mine) bathes in the instant gratification that it offers, while disregarding the ill effects of longterm usage. PROUD OF YOU!! 💪
The amount of people saying YT is social media has given me brain cancer. Yes it is but it works way differently
@TheLordWillis fair enough lol
@@jungletroll3844 saying Brain cancer when people are actually battling it, is a reach. 🙄
It is amazing that you have understood the negatives and now you can work on these! That's wonderful to be conscious of these things. You can be proud
Thank you Sydney !:) So cool to hear you are happier without it
Haven't had anything except youtube since july 2020. It's been really impactful. If you are scared of committing completely, you can deactivate some of your social just to see how things go. I really recommend it.
Thanks Markus, glad to hear that you are finding it great too! I think I will just keep going and keep the accounts deleted tho :)
@@LucyAlllan but what do you dooo, every year I take a month long break from social media but I get so bored and it drives me mad and I get bored of hobbies pretty quickly
