I am eighty years old and never had a cellphone of any kind. i study, read, and stay busy and don't feel a need to talk to others all the time. I liked this video.
@Frank Watkins I don't know how people have time to stay on a phone. By the time I garden, cook, care for the house and help my husband of over 80 years old, and we have been married almost 60 years.even though I am slow, have no time to chat all day on a phone. We both read, study, talk to one another, and rest. He says if everyone minded their own business and kept their own affairs in order, we wouldn't have the mess the world is in. I think smartphones aren't very smart.
@@theoldbeader Your life is honestly the one I envisioned having myself one day. Unfortunately it seems that the political elites and globalist corporations want to eradicate it entirely. God bless and congratulations on your fulfilling life, I am definitely jealous as a young man in this seemingly soon-to-be dystopia.
I came of age, with respect to the internet, smart phones hadn't come into their place as yet. I always wondered why do I need a computer. That question was only going to be answered if I learned about computers and what I could do with one and any restrictions I would have by not having one. Most people I know who have nothing to do with computers or technology always say the same thing That i did in the origin of my experience, that is they do not need to have anything to do with the technology. That is fine as it is their right but I question the logic of their view when their stand on technology is based upon no knowledge of the subject. That makes me believe that their decision is based upon, well.....simply put, ignorance. Fearing the unknown is what i overcome as a young child! The more ya know the more ya go! My usage of technology expanded exponentially as I began to grasp its capabilities. This usage was taken into multiple areas of my daily life from casual to work I found that getting information quickly made my job so much easier. As technology increased with what information is available I found that I become a lot more informed about nearly everything. It is so easy to acquire information that used to take me to the encyclopedia and subsequent yearbooks to derive what I was interested in. The old school is still viable but way to slow for the timeframe I choose to get my knowledge. The flip side of my acquired knowledge base is that being ignorant has is advantages. The old saying that ignorance is bliss comes true so much more nowadays than I would have ever expected. Like the biblical story of the fruit from the tree of life! With knowledge comes an equal amount of responsibility!
@@magicone9327 thank you for your reply. It is not that I am averse to technology. I do have a computer, as I am writing this to you on one. My stand on it is that without an understanding that both good and bad apply to all walks of life, too many today fail to have the wisdom, or use restraint when applying the technology . Yes, the more you know, the more you go as you said, but my contention is that we as a people have gone too far in the wrong direction. My viewpoint is not based on ignorance, nor fear of the unknown.. It is based on the fact that I have a large family, and often watch the results of their not using their time, talents and abilities on more positive pursuits and productivity of their minds.
I'm 16 and I had smartphone about 4years, until last summer when I turned to 16 I bought a "dumbphone", because I started to see more downsides on it than upsides
As a teen girl, I’ve always been intensely pressured by my friends to try this app and join that. Thankfully, I saw how many negative effects are inflicted on people when they always feel obligated to keep their followers up to date with their life. It’s just not right. And by nature I’m a very reserved person anyway so I’ve never listened to them. Good on you for making that decision! :)
Everywhere I go, I see people looking down at their phones. No one is watching life unfold and taking place all around them, right in front of them. Amazing.
Daniel Carrick: You are so correct! Keep doing what you are doing, and if it's appropriate tell others that you are engaging with the world and with Nature and it's impossible to do that while your eyes are glued into your phone. How many times have I seen people walking in crosswalks against a red light because their heads are glued into their phones? It's really a sad statement for humanity and I hope we can reverse course before it's too late. It starts with one person and another, and another...so keep it up!
I have been known to allow people on the pavement to walk bang into me! They also need to look where they are going while crossing a road, I almost hit someone once! Great number of pedestrian accidents these days. And car accidents, keep it OFF while driving.
I have an Iphone 8, but lately it started to bother me. It makes aspects of your mind lazy, especially memory, math etc... Social media on it is also a trap that controls your emotions. I don't think I will upgrade when this one is old or broken. In fact I think I will downgrade to a dumb phone like the one Bjorn has.

I noticed that too, towarss the end the Sun is rising through the trees and the morning birds just waking and singing.. Took a screenshot heh very beautiful Bjorn video for sure
Well atleast someone cares about you. I'm on my phone 10 hours a day (working on improvement) and nobody ever talks to me, I just look at videos, movies, pictures, memes...
My smartphone is 5 years old and I never wanted it to begin with. It's starting to malfunction now and I won't be replacing it. I'm always the only person not staring at one wherever I go!
I was th same. Certain social media accounts try and throw their agenda in you and push what they want you to see and delete what they don't want you to
Social Media brings you into contact with Internet Trolls whose brains are used for sitting on. I was happier without a smartphone so that’s what I should get rid of now.

Ive never had a smart phone, or used social media. Its true people get shocked. I like my peace and quiet and always use a dumb phone. No tv. Im so glad i found your videos.

Now when I tell people I don't have Facebook they roll their eyes and ask me what I do with my life... I'm not even old yet!
Yes, and the scary thing is, those things you mention are really not that long ago in the grand scheme of things, if I go out walking, hunting etc, I am trying to make a conscious effort to leave the SP at home, one of the worst things for me regarding this technology, is that people have been almost brainwashed into being desperate to reply immediately to messages and things, back before mobile phones we still communicated, we managed, somehow to survive 😂
Ironic. When phones had cords, people were still free. Now the phones are cordless, but people are shackled to the grid. An invisible cage is still a cage.
@@VahisMX Johnny have all you bills sent to you and pay them by check. Use the mail. This is the way everyone paid their bills in the 70 s ,80, and 90s until autopay came along. I depise phones in general.... get sick and tired as heck that folks always expect instant answers and connectivity when I am more than happy if you leave me alone, and leave a message somewhere else, like a landline. I saw so many many folks getting lost in their damn phones, and not connecting verbally at family gatherings, but they text each other when they are sitting right next to each other, so nobody can hear, but blocked themselves out from all useful human activity. And folks don't get it when I turn the damn thing off for a week or so........ I don't need to, and they shouldn't need to..... ya know? thank you Bjorn.... you hit the nail on the head. I hate it. and am still yet stuck to it for other folks sake, and to make sure that my jobs are taken care of... but after dead mom's estate is dealt with.... It stays off until emergency only. I will not allow my kids to have a cell phone until they can pay for it themselves, they don't need it. What on earth did folks do to survive in up until the mid 90's and early 2000's. They don't damn need it, they only use for games and social media crap.... but ain't teaching them anything at all useful, ya know?

I love watching TH-cam Bitçhute. But when I am with friends I turn it off! My wife is on her phone when we are together so I walk away and talk to other women. It is funny to see her looking around then sees my talking to another woman. I have met some nice women!
I have to have one for my self employment (which is worth not working for someone), but I’m disciplined in turning it off, not having you my side every moment. It concerns me how the younger generations have had these things rewire their brains.
Not to mention it keeps pushing the idea you have to keep plugging along and/or rush for things. Then it gets rid of commitment to engagements. I remember calling a friend, setting up a time and then meeting. You’d cancel by phone call if you couldn’t come and that was that, otherwise you go and people would be on time

I absolutely agree! Very well said. I wrote this down. I've felt very forsaken this past year by lack of human contact because of COVID and a family tragedy. Finding my new life, back to the way I used to live! Throw away the tracking device. Get back to living. We are not robots but mankind is being sucked into an artificial reality. Back to the forest!

I can't believe Bjorn's books are not in English, one of the most used and prevalent languages in the world. And yes, I signed the petition. I am 66 years old and I pine for the old days when things were more simple, and somehow we got along just fine without smart phones. What really struck me was Bjorn's statement that he mourns what he LOST during the days he did use a smart phone. Bjorn is very wise.
Nothing is lost unless you're using a phone for stupid reasons. A phone is not a bad thing, it is just a device and used in the right way it can be a good device. Life is about balance not extremes.
I see you as a great father I never had. I've been living in a city my entire life, and it has destroyed me. I have become insecure, self conscious about almost everything, and it goes against every single morale I have, and the masculinity within me. I want to live alone in a forest somewhere, I'd be much happier, and grateful. My society and culture specifically, is very toxic. Everytime I see your videos it gives me... well... peace. It speaks to my inner masculinity. I don't open up much, but I felt like it today hahaha. May you have a peaceful day.
I am 65 and never owned any type of cell phone. I also haven't had TV for 7 years. I get all my information from the internet. I still have a land line phone. Thank you for the video sir.
I'm in total agreement with your thoughts expressed on this video. I don't feel comfortable in this artificial, cold way people communicate now. Growing up being brought up by grandparents, we children visited the elders in our family weekly. We helped by picking vegetables from the garden, sitting on the porch as a family, listening to the older family telling stories that they lived and I miss that. I find that a lot of people now are very self absorbed and not genuine.
I am at the time of typing this 29 years old and have never owned a cell phone. Someone gave me an old go phone which I used once and gave back to them. One of the reasons Bjorn feels better with out the phone is that he is more free from others and society because he doesnt have to worry about lots of texts, apps, etc. Another is because the phone is a frequency emitter and I believe we are very sensitive to those frequencies. I think thats why people are always aware of their phones. Its not just a physical device, its like it has its own presence or intelligence. They are called "smart" phones.
I posted this a few minutes ago. The internet does have a life all unto itself. It has grown, evolved into something massive. My phone makes my hand hot. I can truly say I wish I lived in the woods with limited technology...

Again I enjoy your videos and look forward to each new one!! Thank you and God bless.
It all sums down to the phrase 'ignorance is a bliss'. Before the advent of electronics, we as humans were getting along just fine until electronics infiltrated our lives and changed everything. Before facebook we had pen pals, photos were taken less frequently thus being more meaningful and not a bunch of selfies but rather having more people and memories in them, and I can go on.
I'm with you. I've never had any kind of mobile or cell phone. It's healthy for people to be startled by learning that, so they don't just consider that everyone has one by default, that it's a conscious choice to have one or not. Not having one makes many things hard or impossible, but that's society's problem. They should accommodate people who choose not to have one. Nice to see you out there making a fire.
I got rid of mine too, I was only really using it when I drove in case my car broke down or something (I live in the mountains, if my car breaks down up on the mountain at night I'm screwed) but I don't miss it at all, I'm not worried about driving without it, I don't even think about it, I just make sure I'm not driving around in the mountains at night. I try to use the phone for knowledge more then pure entertainment. I fully agree though the smart phone take over and particularly tracking needs to be checked, it’s out of control.
I've been thinking about doing this ever since I went abroad for about a year without getting a SIM card there. I turned off all connectivity on it and it was basically an mp3 player/camera. That entire period felt so liberating, the fact that I can go somewhere and be unreachable, that now I'm sure my next phone will be a dumb phone. If I ever need a smartphone for my work it will be on for as long as I'm working and then I'll shut it off.
I didn't have one for many years. People thought it was weird. My work said I had to have one to be employed there. I didn't even have a cell phone. For people making small businesses or trying to find clients or gain followers for a personal endeavor, these tools often enhance and actually dictate our success. This is the main trouble I have with smart phone usage.
I gotta admit, I have a anti social problem and I have fear when I go in public.. I have often been a contrarian, suspicious of the zombie crowd Who seem to suffer from FOMO To their unrecognised detriment
I went out with a guy who was addicted to his phone, everywhere you went, a river.. looking at his smart phone, a gig, looking at his smart phone, restaurant, looking at his smart phone.. it came between us hey !.. I don't know about FOMO..missing out on what exactly?
QR codes and digital 'health passes' were my line in the sand. I got rid of my smartphone, and came off all social media. I can't tell you what an improvement those two decisions have made in my life.
Try live without phone, social media,TV and computer.I did almost a year without negative distraction .Family and friends though I had lost it,but I learned so much because I read many books, listened to music and spent more time in the nature. Also it was really nice to be unplugged and just breath.
I have a "dumb" phone as well. Never had a "smart" one. Seems to me the "smart" phone is nothing more than a crutch for those who refuse to think for themselves and are afraid of being alone. Great video.
I totally agree with you on your rejection of the smart phone, I myself have a "dumb" phone and I use it like it's a hard line, I keep it at home unless I know I'm going to need it when I'm out. It's interesting how quickly people get sucked into smart phone usage and then figure the whole world needs to have one as well. When I tell people I don't text I get a look that says "what is wrong with you?". Who needs to carry an "electronic leash"? Not I. If you told people that they had to have a tracking chip surgically implanted in them they would rightfully be up in arms about the subversion of their rights but then get a "smart phone" and carry it with them constantly. Very curious how the smart phone "fad" has caused people to voluntarily give up their rights to privacy.
"If you told people that they had to have a tracking chip surgically implanted in them..." It's coming (actually here already but coming in terms of mass roll out) and with the Covid agenda many will be happy to get one.
I have a smart phone that has not been switched on in 12 months. I last watched terrestrial TV , or any TV for that matter, 25 years ago. My children were raised without TV or smart phones. And, although they have smart phones now I notice a distinct difference between the amount of time they spend on their respective phones and the time spent by others of their age. One of my children writes novels but uses a fountain pen and an 80 year old typewriter. Imagine someone in the future saying they still use an 80 year old laptop or iPad. No? Neither can I. We will indeed sign your petition to have your novels translated into English. All the best.
I don't have a smartphone and I don't use a smartphone, by choice. After seeing my grandchildren with them, no direct eye contact due to them looking down all the time. They really dumb people down in many ways along with losing their social graces. I agree with you and look forward to your posts. Thank you for your time.
Definately agree on that we need to be more "organic", thats talking to people instead of writing. Very important point. I say sitting here texting on my smartphone...

I have not had a television for 8 years and I ditched my smart phone last year. The reaction I get from people when I say I don't have these things is one of shock and pity and it really makes me laugh that they feel that way.
Best thing I did was ditch the "smart phone". It was the most intrusive thing I have every purposefully brought into my life. I felt a huge weight lifted as I left the mobile store with my new flip phone.
Been following you for awhile, and your book viking has arrived yesterday. i must admit it's a big book but i will motivate myself to dive in it! i never did read allot of books but your videos really inspired me. "Social Dilemma" is really eye opening...social media algorithms are becoming much more intelligent. They learn about you & present content to keep you engaged/addicted. It's so scary!
If you think Social Dilemma is eye opening, try to read "Industrial society and its future" by Ted Kacynsky. Social dilemma is nothing compared to that.
Bjorn, i just have to say, firstly hello from England and second, finding you and your videos, i dont know what you have done to me but im inspired, i have been rediscovering my younger self outdoors in the last 3 years, and watching you talk about MH...im now simplifying my life, removing distractions and things that encourage me to consume such as my computer etc etc, i just want to say such a thankyou my friend. p.s. your voice is like butter, never stop 🙂
I suffer the opposite: whenever I call my brother, he Doesn't pickup, and texts: "what do you want? you called" and I write I want to talk to you, and replies: "and what do you want?" 😫
The thing is that we are now in the most connected time in history, and therefore we are the most disconnected people in history. We are able to connect with random people on the other side of the world, but we became altruistic because we are always "encouraged" to do it without purpose.
I quit watching tv shows long ago. I watch an occasional old movie in the evening when winter sets in. Plenty of other things to occupy ones attention. Good video.
Will definitely sign the petition. If I were back home writing I'd ditch my smart phone but for now I use it at the day job. Are you doing nanowrimo next month?

@Frank Watkins I don't know how people have time to stay on a phone. By the time I garden, cook, care for the house and help my husband of over 80 years old, and we have been married almost 60 years.even though I am slow, have no time to chat all day on a phone. We both read, study, talk to one another, and rest. He says if everyone minded their own business and kept their own affairs in order, we wouldn't have the mess the world is in.
I quit spending time with most people who sit and play on their phones. Deleted all social media in May. Never felt better

I'm nearly 75 and back in the 1950s my friend and I would shout to each other across the valley. Great times.
Not to mention that they have zero situational awareness because their heads are stuck in their phones!

I have to have one for my self employment (which is worth not working for someone), but I’m disciplined in turning it off, not having you my side every moment. It concerns me how the younger generations have had these things rewire their brains.
Not to mention it keeps pushing the idea you have to keep plugging along and/or rush for things. Then it gets rid of commitment to engagements. I remember calling a friend, setting up a time and then meeting. You’d cancel by phone call if you couldn’t come and that was that, otherwise you go and people would be on time

Now, I am not technical or good with tv wires etc, so when the room looked nice, I realised that I couldn't work out which wire/cable when where so I gave my tv to my neighbour who wanted a tv for her bedroom, That was about 9 years ago and I've never looked back. My late husband was the electric go-to one in the house, so that's my poor excuse.........no husband = no tv!
We haven't had cable since 2009, don't miss it one bit.

I was at the grocery store and watched 3 youngsters that appeared to be in their early 20s shop. All 3 had their faces and fingers buried in their phones the entire time and they rarely spoke to each other. At that age I was happy 24/7 they seemed to have an attitude.
I see college studenta crossing busy streets addicted to their Smart Phones, Heads Down AND not even looking either way for oncoming traffic. Pathetic.
I see the same thing, Toe Tote. I often have a real problem seeing the way people are with their phones. Any suggestions about how to cope with it? I've found that if I tell people about how it bothers me, they either laugh at me or get defensive about it. Some will agree with me, but defend how they 'need' it.
@@brynne77 / it’s probably not a good idea to let them know how you feel about their behavior with their phones or with anything else. You gotta remember when we where young we did things our elders didn’t like so I’d let them be.

I don't necessarily mean to glare at them, but I can't help it. I seriously don't like people acting like phone zombies with their phones. I envy you. I dislike everything about smartphones and social media. But the life Im currently living requires one. It's eerie how smartphones tend to pick up words from conversations and then present them as advertising. One can wonder if that's really all there is to it.
Agreed. My friend and I were chatting on the phone about diamonds for some random reason. The next day I was getting jewelry store ads. And the worst is that it's capable of listening even when you're not using it.
yes this happens a lot to me and my friends. They are listening all the time and we all know it

Plenty of camera options out there small enough to pocket. Try the Ricoh GR II - the GR III is out so now the 2 is cheaper.

I have a smartphone, but I only listen to radio stations around the World on it, when I am on a long bus or coach journey, close my eyes and relax. I don't watch social media, or even video's on it. I do enjoy listening to radio stations around the World though.
Great theme Bjorn!
I do own a smartphone BUT I use it mainly for replacing the things that I use to take in my purse:
- normal phone
-Journal (now write in "Notes")
-Calendar
-Agenda (now write in calendar)
-voice recorder (I used to take a small one now I record in the phone's voice recorder)
-maps, that was the worst, it was heavy in my purse, I used to carry everyday this little book of maps of my city (european capital)
- camera: I didn't used to take a camera with me, now I'm happy that whenever I want a picture, I can take it with my phone.
-compass
But I don't use social media, well, I discover TH-cam and watch things that interest me.
I don't have WhatsApp on purpose and my friends are always complaining that I am disconnected and bla bla...so Im very happy to read all of your comments, I don't feel so weird 😊.

I also dumped my smartphone due to the expectations of using it. I never felt particularly “addicted”, but instead I realized that society wants me to use it. Now I can choose when to be accessible, which is never.

Flip-phone, desktop terminal only, best way to go.
I too, stopped using a "smart phone" for many of the same reasons.. I went back to using an old style "flip phone"... It is practical and meets my needs for communication. I did not like how much information about myself could be monitored via a smart phone... I have nothing to hide, but the reality is; It is no one else's business... it's a privacy issue.
I lived without one for 40 years, I can live without it another 40 years.

If I ever need a smartphone for my work it will be on for as long as I'm working and then I'll shut it off.
I didn't have one for many years. People thought it was weird. My work said I had to have one to be employed there. I didn't even have a cell phone. I did not like the fact people could talk to me wherever I was. I said if people need to get a hold of me I am at work or home.
