  • In today’s video we spend one night at the ABC Hotel in Angeles City. ABC hotel was the most expensive hotel that we stayed at in the Philippines and at first we couldn’t even find the toilet 🤣. The following day we visit Bataan Memorial and Subic Bay, where JR gives us a brief history lesson.

Thank you for the history tour, love your videos.
What you said about about the young people today or activists not respecting the flag of the U.S. or in my case Australia and in many Western countries is so unfortunately true. It really grinds my gears that people died for our freedoms

I've been to quite a few of these ww2 memorials all over the pacific. I'm american and live in okinawa and one day i was walking down the street next to my condo and i see a bus load of us marines get off and walk up a steep staircase. I got curious and googled the place they went to. come to find out its a place called sugarloaf and was what the japanese called the shuri line. It was the first major resistance the americans met when they overtook the main island in okinawa. I then found a website and discovered this place i can see from my outside patio had over 3000 us marine casualties. One marine received a metal of honor on this hill and his story blew me away. To this day they're still disposing of bombs that are uncovered. As a matter of fact they're blowing up some ww2 bombs today out in the ocean. Some are really big and make the whole building shake. Even though it was over 80 years ago the sound of bombs going off is still happening here.

Nice video. I was stationed at Clark Air Base during the Mt Pinatubo eruption. I evacuated to Subic and then on to Cebu after the eruption. The eruption and the following two weeks was an experience I’ll never forget. Crazy time, but loved my assignment at Clark Air Base, Nov 88 - Jun 91. Cheers, Tim

Thanks for sharing...Brings back memories. I was stationed on 2 Destroyers out of Yokosuka 1988-'92 and visited Subic so many times. We were there after the eruption and there was ash everywhere. Bulldozers were plowing off the athletic fields with huge piles of ash wherever you looked. Many buildings on base and even more off base, were collapsed from the weight of the ash (it also rained during the eruption which made the wet ash extremely heavy). Many of the bars out in town were closed or just partially open and you literally had to wipe ash off of your bear bottle before you could drink. My final visit prior to the base closing, was April 1992. Sadly, it was never the same after the eruption.

Found this on Wikipedia: "The Bataan Death March[a] was the forcible transfer by the Imperial Japanese Army of 75,000[1] American and Filipino prisoners of war (POW) from the municipalities of Bagac and Mariveles on the Bataan Peninsula to Camp O'Donnell via San Fernando.
The transfer began on 9 April 1942 after the three-month Battle of Bataan in the Philippines during World War II. The total distance marched from Mariveles to San Fernando and from the Capas Train Station to various camps was 65 miles (105 km). Sources also report widely differing prisoner of war casualties prior to reaching Camp O'Donnell: from 5,000 to 18,000 Filipino deaths and 500 to 650 American deaths during the march.
The march was characterized by severe physical abuse and wanton killings. If an American or Filipino POW was caught on the ground or fell, he would be instantly shot. After the war, the Japanese commander, General Masaharu Homma and two of his officers, Major General Yoshitaka Kawane and Colonel Kurataro Hirano, were tried by United States military commissions for war crimes and sentenced to death on charges of failing to prevent their subordinates from committing atrocities. Homma was executed in 1946, while Kawane and Hirano were executed in 1949."

Things have changed quite dramatically since as even in Thailand has changed considerably since we were at the Thai airbase Utapao outside Pattaya on that same det.

Joe, I totally agree with you and understand how you feel. In 2018 we went to Normandy France, US Cemetery next to Omaha Beach. The sacrifice those young soldiers made for world freedom brought tears to me. Then you watch a professional athlete take a knee before a game when the National Anthem is played is heartbreaking. I’m not trying to be political it’s just my experience. Good luck, keep up the good work.

Political: been watching you for a couple of years.. So here are a couple of comments from a Marine Veteran 1966-70.. My generation also burned the flag, which was okay for me, as they were protesting a war that even the people in power knew was not win-able. 50,000 American died for ? And why were we in Iraq? Americans burning the flag are protesting American Gov. actions, the people flying the confederate flag in the capitol want to destroy America as we know it.. Seems clear to me who is the greater danger, thinking with your small head or large head..
