    I just bought B.tan for the first time today, their darkest color. The color is amazing and it's not done developing. It's not orange and has almost an olive tone. It's very beautiful. It does smell while developing, not during application, no stick. Tons of pros for me so far.

    This was the best sunless tan video. I appreciate all the research and effort you put into your videos. I’m currently using loving tan and I do love it, but I would like to find something more affordable. Apparently according to the comments I need to try bondi sands😆

      loving tan is going to always be my fav (especially cause it dries down) but bondi is definitely a close second. i find it easier to blend and it has a strong tropical scent. the biggest downside for me is that it’s sticks and transfers a lil. color is pretty nice tho

      Bondi Sands (from Australia like myself) Is good but DEFINATLY do not apply it straight after exfoliating leave it a day. I got the worst spots, they look like legions they have taken 2 weeks to go away, otherwise all good smell good.
      I also use a a brand here called Eco-tan by Sonya if you want something with all natural ingredients, It's great however its really an internet business so you will have to get it online and is pricier .(face tanning water AWESOME).
      Also Le Tan is back in the game with a few choices and boasts 10 days, I'd call it more like 9 but pretty good :)

    I’ve been self tanning for YEARS and have tried freaking everything in the market!!! My fave by far is basically any of the Bondi Sands tanners, but the one I’m hooked on now is their Aero Liquid Gold foam. It dries SUPER quick and smells really good!!! Plus makes my skin soooooo soft!!!! Very transfer proof too!!!! I buy it at Walgreens!!!!!! Highly recommend!!!!!!!!!

      I just bought this and tried it as a self tan first timer. It went perfectly! I look so good! No bad smell (actually faintly like coconut), easy to apply, no transfer, not orange, no streaks or patchiness in my application! I love it now! I want to try the Bondi Sands ultra dark now.

    • @GratefulDrea2

      i use the aAero ultra dark. It has no smell it dries completely it doesn't transfer it's nice and dark and I will never go back to anything else. I also topped it off after about five days with their tanning oil which is also amazing but is more gold than brown. You'll never go back you need to try it

    My favorite tip to help with self tanners not drying down that I learned when I use to get spray tans put talc free baby powder (preferably burts bees) all over your body with a makeup brush it helps so much

      adding powder to the fresh tan doesn’t make it dry weird?

    • @Smolrussian
      @Smolrussian 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sarahbrown9926 not at all I use to get spray tans frequently before I started to self tan and my lady taught me the trick let it sit on your skin for a few minutes with a fan blowing on you so it dries as much as possible (because some fully dont) but in creases or areas of your body where the tan can rub or get all weird just dust some baby powder with a brush and it keeps from sticking and a lot less transfer

    • @anngood4141
      @anngood4141 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Using powder was one of the best tips and made a huge difference in how my tan develops. I learned about it like 10 years ago. After tanning I apply it wherever skin can touch skin: crease behind the knees, in the crook of your elbows, the crease of your hip/thigh when you bend your legs to sit down, and under your arms. I started using Gold Bond camomile and aloe because it’s less drying and I avoid talc because of health hazards. I go outside on my patio (it’s enclosed for privacy) where I have a fan blowing to help dry my tan and it disperses the powder, otherwise it can be a little messy in my bathroom. I also learned it made a big difference to moisturize twice a day in the AM and PM to make the tan last longer, which is logical because all day every day we shed skin cells so maintaining moisture is key. Foams usually have a higher alcohol level so they tend to be more drying and make me itchier. I started using a makeup brush to more smoothly apply tanner on my face, hands, and feet. I bought a vinyl back tanning strap to uniformly apply tanner to my back so I’m not trying to twist like a pretzel to reach difficult areas. I moisturize my feet/hands/knees/elbows ahead of tanning because the skin is thicker and drier so it keeps the tanner from being so dark and streaked from the product clinging. And I use disposable surgical gloves to apply tanner all over, which gets rid of the problem with washing tanner from your hands. When you’ve been using self tanner as long as I have you have to keep researching, trying new products since the industry keeps improving formulas, and looking for tips and tricks. I appreciate ideas that people come up with to make the result more natural.

  • @mypurplelephant
    @mypurplelephant 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Loved your input on these! However good for people to keep in mind that the smell while developing is caused by the chemical reaction between the active ingredient (DHA) and your skin, so something that smells okay on you could be super stinky on someone else and vice versa.
    Thanks for taking 7 weeks of your time to review these!!

    I just grabbed a bottle of b. Tan, it was way cheaper, like $11.99 at Harmon. I think it is good for the price. The color develops brown on me, no red or orange tint. I want to try the Bondi Sands next. I am interested to see what you think of The Gradual. It's a self tanning cream. I have repurchased it 2 or 3 times, i love it. It's more of a tan booster, maybe? I use it all summer. Ulta sells it and i think Sephora as well.

    Hi Abbey. Thanks so much for helping to clarify the situation for so many of us who use self tanning products. You've touched on quite a few good points here. As a tanning product manufacturer fresh on the Australian market, we understand why companies continue to make self-tanning products that don't look real. The reason is that most tanning product formulations come from - well - formulators. These people are essentially chemists who have received little to no training in mixing colourants for the formulations. That's what makes our product range different. At Sundance, The Designer Tan, we have a range of 10 self-tanning products that range in strength and natural tone according to your unique tones - and not just skin, but hair and eyes as well. Thanks again for all your hard work Abbey!

    My favorite tanner is sold online by HSN called Tan Towels. The product is inexpensive and easy to use. You take a packet which has a paper sheet filled with their self tanner. You just apply it all the places you want. It goes on easily and i never have streaking. I have been using it for years and love it. It dries quickly and lasts for days. I sometimes use it year round because it is not expensive and I do love to glow!!

    Abby, I wanted to let you know about a product that (for me) avoids the need for a tanning mitt for application. I stumbled upon it in my hubs bathroom drawer, haha. I personally am not a fan of tanning mitts bcz they soak up product, it’s one more thing to clean and spend more $ on. I apply all of my tanning products with my bare hands and then I use this “scrubby” from Lowe’s (It’s a natural soap infused scrubber like a plastic loofa type) infused with citrus and typically used for paint, grease and dirt removal of hands. And let me tell you....it gets off ALL the dark stain residue from my self tan when I use it immediately after applying my tanner. I’ve never actually used it after the tan has set in already. This would’ve been perfect for the bottoms of your feel when you had your leaky bottle disaster. I realize that some people love the mitt, but for those who don’t....try this instead!! It’s a game changer!

    See, I've been using loving tan for 3 years now, and I'd actually rate it lower than she did on transferability and fade. It transfers a lot for me - like everywhere. And its sticky during the entire developing time. The tan lasts a while, but it does fade patchy for me. I just LOVE the color on me (I have cool undertones which their dark formula is perfect for) so I've been scared to try something else. Thank you soooo much for the reviews!! So sweet of you and very informative.
    You know, there was a brand I used to buy from Walgreens and/or CVS I’m nearly 100% certain it was Sally Hansen bronzing gel. But, it seems as though they have changed their formula (if I’m remembering correctly). It was a 12 oz tube of Gel Bronzer “medium - dark” in shade. No hint of shimmer or orange hues.
    I chose the darker shade to stretch it farther since I would need to combine it with my daily moisturizer in order to lighten its shade. That single tube cost me $7.82 after tax and would last me throughout an entire year. Not full body use everyday but usually half of it. My skin looked naturally tanned and healthy.
    The above bronzing gel was replaced with a bronzing lotion that is nothing like the product it replaced. It’s seems more like a type of foundation or concealer of sorts. Like a beige colored mousse/lotion blend. Nothing like a bronzer. Everything like a disappointment.
    I wish these companies would stop cheapening their products, believing it’s some clever ruse for passing along inflation hikes to us consumers without our awareness of it. We notice less product in the tubes these days. The quality changing from a rich texture to an air whipped texture. And the deception that is perpetrated upon consumer’s after years of financial support is one that can be likened to that of a bait and switch scam is dreadfully unfortunate. Maybe I will luck up and find 10 bottles of the old formula on a dusty shelf of an out-of-the-way Walgreens. One can only hope. As for now, I’m going to combine that green toned bronzer (lol) with that bronzer you like best and see how the combination works out. I’m thinking it will look great. We’ll see.
    Take care and YOU ARE THE BEST!! ❤️❤️

The first time you mentioned it in a video I was a little scared of not having a color guard, but I think I've graduated to experienced self tanner at this point and can give it a chance haha.

    This is such a great video. Thank you for putting so much effort in!!! I have been so unhappy with my self-tanner last summer and I just couldn't pick a new one to use. And seriously the attention to ingredients is amazing. Never thought about looking at ingredients for self-tanners, but I freaking put that all shit all over my skin, lol.
    Also definitely interested in a dedicated weekly self-tanning video. I get a lot of fading when I have to shave my legs and have fading and removal issues sometimes.

    This is awesome that you went to the trouble to try all these self tanners out. I was looking in Amazon and the St. Moritz does having a self tan mousse that you can get in dark. Don’t know how well that works I’ve never tried it , maybe that would have better application though than the spray. It’s really nice to see the different brands of self tanner in someone to see how it looks , how it smells and how it lasted. So thank you so much for this💕💕

    St. Moriz (dark) is probably my favorite self-tanner if you like non-orange results (at least that's how it is on my skin). I use the "lotion", though, except it doesn't seem like a lotion? It's more like a liquid to me. The lotion does have the color guard and it dries quickly (unless it's really humid out). I have never had any streaks and it does fade evenly. (Your experience with the mist just sounds awful! I stay away from all mists!!) You might like it! P.S. The price is much better at Target compared to Amazon. :D

    So I honestly dont care about smell but I know alot of people do. I just feel like its only on you for a short time so as long as you dont smell rancid or horrible- I'm cool with that self tan smell! I did get the Tanologist water but I agree that it doesn't get as dark as loving tan so I should maybe do 2 applications. I did ask you before about tanning the face and I know you did say makeup but I dont wear makeup everyday so I hate having that pale face and dark body! Even bronzer doesn't work well for color matching. I would love to know some ideas on tan serums like Ilia or maybe the Coola sunless tan serum? Do you use anything like this and if so I'd love to see a video on your thoughts! I appreciate the time you took to make this!!! I couldn't do it on my face but it just is so blotchy to me I am obsessed with tanning in the beds and outside but I really did think the face Tanner for tanologst was a waste but didn't make me break out nor did the loreal like it was perfect if you want color and don't wear makeup and didn't tan much that week. It makes you glow. Loving tan was too crazy once they changed formulas.

    Hey Abbey,
    Love your channel. I think you’re going to be incredibly successful here on TH-cam. (: My question for you is, do you using anything at the end of your tanning week to remove the former tan completely or do you simply apply over the faded existing tan? Other foams have gone on well in the past and I am hoping this checks all the boxes as well. I did have a question though...do you prep your skin a certain way before applying? I know some say to exfoliate and moisturize a day before... I was not sure if this applies to foam applications as well.
