*I was able to use the stop to cut my pieces all the same **MyBest.Tools** Only let the blade come to a complete stop before lifting it back up otherwise it might 'catch' the work and inadvertently move the stop. Used a second clamp for holding.*

Bought this for my friend for his birthday, and he loves it. Father-in-law was a little jealous, even. :) Built solid, but light enough to move around for projects. Easy to use th-cam.com/users/postUgkxPeGkHOMe05FySypTOvYumxMn-xi39oRe and makes great precision cuts. Doesn't come with a laser mount, but the fence is straight as an arrow and if you measure carefully, it's not a problem. Can handle dimensional lumber with ease, but of course, there's a limit to how thick. Handled a 4x4" post without a problem, but 4x6" we had to flip and cut twice. Only thing we've noticed is make sure to tighten the nut that holds the saw blade when you take it out of the box and maybe check up on it occasionally. For some, this is probably a no-brainer, but we neglected to do this and a few months in, found the motor running but the blade spinning at about half speed or less. Tightened the nut, and problem was solved. Very happy with this purchase. Dewalt makes sturdy stuff.

Great video. These are indeed great saws and I love mine. However, it should be noted that the DWS779 has gone through at least three production versions at the time of this response ... Type 20, 21, and 22 now being the latest. Each production version has obsoleted (ended production of) the prior version. However, you will not find information concerning the production version Type on the product's packaging. The production version Type may only be found on the label affixed to the upper surface of the saw's motor. Suffice it to say that all DWS779 saws are not the same and you have to dig deeper than the model name. When initially produced, the DWS779 and its $200-$250 more expensive sibling, the DSW780, differed only in that the latter featured an LED shadow cut line light (XPS Light). While the DWS779 Type 20, possibly Type 21, and DWS780 may have all of the features shown within this video, the DWS779 Type 22 production version lacks at least following features:
    - the bevel stop pawls
    - slide stop lever.
I can only surmise that these production changes were introduced to drive down production cost to make it more competitive, profitable, and provide greater differentiation between itself and the DWS780. It should be noted that many had been turning their DWS779 saws into full DWS780 saws by adding an aftermarket LED shadow cut line light for less than half of the cost differential between these two saws. Given this information, should the bevel pawls and slide stop lever be must have features for you, then you will need to purchase the DWS780 rather than the DWS779. Please additionally note that the DWS779 Type 22 saw has no provision to accept the bevel pawls or slide stop lever parts from the DWS780 or DWS779 Type 20/21.

Thank you for a very nice & informative video on the DWS779. You are well spoken & make sense of things. I just got mine along with a free promo DeWalt 726 rolling stand during last 2019 Black-Friday at Home Depot & will unbox it next weekend! I appreciate your knowledge & run-down on the saw's features & how to adjust it. I will review your video again to be sure I got all your points. Great video! I didnt think I'd need to watch this.... but my Wife got this for me earlier with the stand (the 723) on amazon for $349 (which is a great deal, so I didnt get mad lol). She said she got it for me after seeing how much I've struggled to cut square edges (with the circular, and jigsaw). She said itll be nice to see me not losing my mind from "the woods" and wanted to expand my adventures as a new, but very driven and creative, 1-armed 1-legged woodworker. She's a sassy one though... she made me promise that I never use a tablesaw since I have a 50% chance of not having any arms lol. That's fair... but if I can get a SawStop then I would use one,but that's the only way. (I offered SawStop the chance to put my limp arm into the saw if they gave me a free tablesaw, but still no reply. I mean, if a hot dog video gets millions of views... imagine what a whole arm, and/or leg would get??? SawStop is losing out if you ask me Lol)
Also, That "10 seconds" was a nice dub cut.
Tl;dr - Sorry... I'm hyperactive, and hyper-excite! Many excite! Lol.

I have a 17 year old version of the 780 that I use to do trim work, treated lumber decks, cabinets and every thing else. This saw rides in my tool trailer for long periods then on to it's stand on the job and back to the shop to do cabinets. It is a beast. I tune it up about once a year and keep good sharp blades for it. It is so heavy I did pick up a seven and one half model to use when going up and down stairs. The 779 is not the same saw. Look at the replacement parts list and you will see the difference. Have a good day.

Just got this saw. The bevel lock knob is now made from plastic. My DW708 had an alloy knob. The handle is to the right of the blade so the bulk of the protruding blade guard, and metal support bar, is to the left which obscures line of sight picture when looking down at a work piece. My old saw had unobstructed sight lines left and right as handle was more centered/left. Blade guard wobbles excessively and rides along the swing arm at bottom of cut. It’s just in the way a bit. Material support is bent and won’t install. Is this made in US?
It’s a relief to get a new saw after 20+ years. I can’t get parts anymore for my 708 which was a great saw. I swapped the contractor blade out for an 80T. Still checking plumb 90, 45 using engineers sq., fence and blade appears accurate out of box. Pointers are easy to read and detent locks are accurate. Purchased XPS light online. Seems to be easy to use. Using my old crown stops which fit and bolts up to my old portable DWX726. Powerful and accurate saw.

I’ve been researching these products for some time and have some insight. I also am an Engineer and run sales & marketing for an HVAC Equip manufacturer. In today’s world with well informed consumers and many “players” there is fierce competition and they all know the price points they need to hit…. And they are all making decent GM (prob in the 40% range).
These saws are NOT the same. It’s not like Dewalt is either making a killing on the 780 or loosing their shirts on the 779. They serve different markets and the difference isn’t some add on lighting.
If you look closely, the overall dimensions are different. The base, I believe, is the same, but the shrouds, casing, etc are different. From an economy of scale perspective, they would make them the same as it would be less costly. The reason they are not is because the internal components are different. I called a local service center and they pulled up the parts lists. The 780 motor has different windings and is a better grade. I believe the bearings in the rail system are better as well. I’m sure there are other differences.
    Bottom line:
They 780 is more of a professional grade, provides better accuracy and longevity.
You get what you pay for and these manufacturers thought of these things well before you did.

Can this cut 14" stair treads?

    • @badbernrock
      @badbernrock 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

DIY Dan Out of the box, at 0° miter it can cut up to and including 13.75” stock. If you want to cut anything wider than that, you’d have to remove the left & right sliding fences, then it can handle up to 16.1”

Glen Steinberg... If you are talking about those two black handles, I am with you. The instructions are kind of vague and I was hoping this video would help.

@@tribulationprepper787 I just bought this model and had the same issue. Try putting a few 2x4's under the miter to prop it up so looking underneath will make it easier (or let one edge hang over the end of the table but prob not the safest). Fit the side extensions/black handles first (the 2 silver bars) underneath, then the silver footing (which will hold the 2 silver bars in place) through the long screw that is attached to the base (the manual shows the long screw as separate from the base), then washer and then that tightener. Hope that helps.

@@djnstunts6278 Thanks for taking your time to respond. Appreciated. I wound up getting DeWalt's collapsible roller cart stand and attaching the saw to that. I am just storing those "extra" parts for now. The cart (DWX726) seems solid, works very well and is easy on the back in case you might be interested. Thanks again for your time and I hope that you and yours remain well during these interesting times. Take care

wrong screw buck-a- ro on the 45 screw adjustments

  • @badbernrock

One point you made that is totally incorrect is the use of the lock down pin. It is to be used ONLY for transport, not to stop the saw from sliding on the rails while cutting. The Rail Lock Knob is what you use to stop sliding on rails while cutting. It’s a small, black knob located on the rail housing, right of center, which is right behind the motor housing. Just a word of advice, read the user manual and be sure you know how to use/demonstrate a saw BEFORE you go trying to tell others how to use it.

The Self Made Man no problem man.
I’m a stickler for “correct information” so I just had to point that out. There are a couple other points as well, but I’m guessing you probably got those figured out by now. Good luck with your new 779.

Come on, there are ways of giving advice. You don't have to use capitals and be all condescending. Let me guess, you're one of those people who have NEVER made a mistake. See I can do it too....Not nice is it? By all means point out a mistake, but there are kinder, more helpful ways of doing it. Get down off your pedestal.
