    They do make replacement clear headlights that are separate from the corner lights. I replaced my one piece headlight assemblies with them and it was so much easier than installing the one piece headlights. I will be getting the matching frosted corner light assemblies soon. Thanks for all the vids you do, Gotta keep these old trucks going because they certainly don't make them like this anymore.

    I didn't have the lower plastic part of the bumper installed on my truck. So for me it was easier to pull the four 18mm bolts from the bumper and remove it!

    I've had the Depo Black Housing for 12 years and just finally decided to invest in another set for my Dakota, The Texas sun finally took a toll on the lenses to the point no amount of polishing was going to fix them....My old Dakota has been my faithful servant for 24 years, Age is starting to show on her but 24 years with just minimal maintenance, I've had 5 Dodge Dakotas in total all have been awesome trucks whether it was the 88,90,92,95 or my 99 SLT 5.2l 5 Speed with the HD Service Group 3.90 Sure Grip rear end. With Truck Prices nowadays I will just sink money into my Dakota and keep on trucking.

      @@martinbuilt Today I removed the halogen bulbs that came with these lights and installed LED upgrade bulbs, but there are terrible black spots in the low beam pattern when testing with a night drive. I'm at a loss, Hate to have wasted $100 for LEDs unless you have some suggestions, and wonder how the beam pattern was on the LEDs you installed (mine are from Headlight Experts, and seem to be of excellent quality)

    Nice!! I've owned a '99 Durango for quite a while and messed around with the headlights quite a bit. The stock ones just don't throw enough light and with most of the aftermarket ones the geometry of the reflector housing is poor resulting in a dim, scattered light pattern. I wound up buying a pair of smoked aftermarket headlight housings I liked the look of, opening them up and installing a pair of high quality HID projector lens housings and HID bulbs and ballasts. It took a decent amount of work and fabrication but the end result was fantastic, I have super bright headlights with a nice sharp cutoff line and a fantastic beam pattern.

    Amazon has a good group of LEDs equal Amber hue to the original. Bought some with the anti-hyperflash boxes hard wired inline, I knew the computer would freak if I just bought simple LEDs... for low voltage. With the clear lens it'll look better than the "frosted/tinted" lens. The original tiny corner Amber Halogen was noticeable, so I changed them throughout. Tried to at least buy from the same manufacture of LED so their version of "Amber" was the same. You can buy them as switch backs: they run white like the headlights until you use your indicators then they flash Amber like normal. Looks good, but ruins the Amber front corners that made these look as cool at night.

    First off, great video. I watched this before installing them on my truck yesterday and it made it my life easier. Second, was the light pattern splotchy before you did the height adjustment on them? There’s a few “hot spots” with the high beams on as well as a reflection of 3 lines. Not the worst thing in the world but would obviously like to have a more even spread of light like on yours. Thank you!

    Great video, Martin. Thanks for the info. I couldn't wait after the last video and pulled the trigger on getting these. I had seen recommendations from guys on Facebook for the assemblies and had them in my cart for over a year. Your approval sealed the deal for me and I'll be installing them shortly. I recently replaced my fog lights with a pair of 4 inch lights from Amazon. Auxbeam LEDs. I like them, but they interfere with the radio. I added ferrous cores and that helps some. Have you ever had this issue and how did you resolve it?

    • @martinbuilt

    • @NXT_LVL
      @NXT_LVL ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I was looking into the all-in-one housings, though it adjusts everything, not just your main headlight like the OEM 2-piece did. Plus with the separated side marker, you can mix/match between styles. The one's I'd stay away from are the All-in-ones with the LED DLR, once that goes, like they do, you pitch the whole thing and burn another $200+. With an empty housing you just replace bulbs.

    Love your videos. I am putting them to good use as we speak. Just got the 4.7 heads back from the machine shop for my wife's 2006 Jeep Commander and they had to take .025" off to flatten them. They said that I would have to use a .020 shim to retain the timing chain geometry, which they sold me. Have you ever had that issue? they told me to use a sealer between the block and the shim with my new gasket on top of that. This is new to me. I wish you were a little closer to me as I am in Kingman.

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Les, I appreciate that.
      I don't know if you really need a shim to correct the timing chain geometry. I would think the self tensions would take care of the the extra slack.
      the one thing I would be worried about were you the shim might come in handy is when you bolt the intake manifold back on because now the bolt holes may not re align without that shim.

    I just had mine installed today on my '00 Durango and what a difference from my old factory blurred out 22yr old lights.
    The only issue I'm having is, mine aren't as bright as yours and for some reason, i also do not have that "squared" look off the headlights like yours when trying to adjust the leveling of the lights beams. Are you using LED? I am using the upgraded Xenon bulbs and for some reason, the just don't same all that bright. Might as well put my old headlights back in.
    I was wondering what bulbs are you using in yours and is there a part number.

      They work pretty good if you can get a set that will actually work.

    Keep your factory rubber hood seals. The ones that come with the aftermarket lights are JUNK, usually made out of much thinner and less robust rubber. They usually will not fit correctly and will fold under/in when the hood shuts.

    Hey Martin, i like the look of those headlights. I've tried 3 - 4 different aftermarket brands on both my 02 QuadCab & my 04 ClubCab (both with the 4.7) I always end up returning them and getting refunded, going back to my old, yellowing, factory ones. I have not liked how too closed or too open the gaps between the bumper or the fenders end up with aftermarkets, on some i could'nt adjust up or down, i would end up with light beams shooting straight down or looking for owls in trees. Screws bottoming out and not moving the headlight up enough off the ground ( screws actually going past and through the stop in place to hold them in). Just bad experience overall with aftermarkets. On your video i could'nt really tell how the gaps ended up compared to factory lights. How do the blinkers look at night when turn signaling? Would have liked to see that.

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was happy with the gaps between the bumper and fender. I thought that looked pretty good they were easy to adjust that work perfectly and the turn signals were actually brighter than my factory ones I could tell from the reflection of street signs.
      I wouldn't mind trying to set of light assemblies with the double ring halos that are CCFL halos.
