Thanks for the video. I fought for an hour trying to get headlight bulbs seated through the fender. Removed the headlight assembly in minutes, and popped the bulb in. THANKS.
hey, that paper towel technique is a lifesaver
You can also remove the screw in between the head light and turn signal that makes it so much easier

The video was helpful to the extent to when your replacing a new head light assembly . Disassembly of the whole headlight assembly to get one of the two blinker bulb housing units out is a royal pain in the rear to take out - this is where the work comes in . You showed taking the old one out and putting old one back in -that's easy part . Do a video on this would be a bigger help I think to utubers . You meant well tho , thanks
Thanks for the video - going to put in both new headlights today for a friend in his sport model . Video will be greatly used .
Thanks for the video. Dodge could have done better in making replacing the bulbs easier.
3675Chandra this was pretty frustrating but it ain’t nothing compared to a 2002 VW bug
no shit
Thanks for the video and the tips. Exactly what I was looking for. Refinishing and upgrading headlights on my 2002 Durango.
Very good video!! It was very helpful!! Great job!!
Just changed both assemblies on my '04 and found it much easier to remove the parking light assembly first, then have easy access to the headlight fasteners.
scatpack68 • Absolutely. He's doing this the hard way.
Holy crap. You've got to be kidding me! I have an 05 Dakota and am sooooooo not looking forward to having to change this lamp. I have never seen one that required so much racheting and disassembly to change a lamp. !
Mazdaspeed 3 has to have the whole bumper removed before the assembly can come out.
I watched another vid of someone doing an 04 and it looks like that year was made with a separate parking light piece that needed to get removed before getting to the headlamp.
So I finally did it. I removed 2 torx screws. The torx screw that was smaller never came out so i didnt remove the entire headlight assembly. I just pulled the light out of the brackets the best I could and reached in. I have heard other methods where people just reach up under the truck to change it. There is absolutely now way that i was going to reach and unclip my lamp that way cuz i would need 2 hands up there. The parking light could possibly be doable but not the main light. I have an 05. I changed the driver side.
Thanks man
Paper towel
great little tip
should I use the same method when putting my new spec d headlights what do u think
great video neat trick with the paper towel
Thanks for the video. It was a great help.
That is cool man but the driver side is a lot harder to get to on my 98.
Also on mine there is a little metal bracket that is in the way of the lower bolt making it impossible to remove the assembly with a socket. I used a 10 mm wrench but the assembly will still not come out of the body. Any ideas? thanks for the vid man it helped a great deal.
awesome thanks
Thanks!
Thank you!
great video thank you
9 years later first off he sounds like the other TH-cam mechanic on Ratchets and Wrenches, I thought it was him. But this is DIY, so 😢. Also, I have an 01 Dakota and to make a long story short, I ordered after market headlight assemblies to update my trucks look and they didn't fit. It took me till the next day to reinstall just one headlight assembly, the other I didn't mess with. Freaking headlight assembly had the bracket that secures it to the frame blocking one of the light bulb socket! Impossible to get in! I melted enough plastic to finally squeeze the bulb in the socket but man, what a b@#$&! Again I could not install the final light to the assembly, the main headlight, because I tried turning it clockwise counter clockwise and all sort of ways but got nowhere. I really believe it's simple to do yet here I am typing this. I still got the aftermarket headlight assemblies, maybe I'll try again because I saw this and it motivated me.
Anybody got a part number on the header that's connected to assembly
55055174-RH, 55055175-LH. On my 2000 Durango I did have to partially remove the bumper as the headlight assemblies would not come out or go in as shown in this video, both were hitting a brace on the top of the bumper on the inside....
How do you remove the grill?
just removed mine minutes ago. there is a frame that holds the grill to the hood. and there about 6 or 7 screws that hold the grill on to the lip of the hood. both screws are the same size but with the screws on the lip of the hood - you have to kinda apply pressure to the grill (pulling it out) to get the grill off. Sorry clear as mud.
DO NOT REMOVE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. Just reach behind the light turn the clip counter clockwise. & Remove the Bulb & replace. it is three steps that’s it. PULL THE PLUG IN OFF THE LIGHT. Remove the Clip & pull the Bulb. No tool required. Just Hands!
Too Late to tell you the correct way.
Oh snap the front grill comes off automatically! Waste of space/video
