Big news for anyone who traded in their creaky old Kronos for a nice new Nautilus - now you can trade in your creaky old Nautilus for a nice new Kronos.
It’s essentially a re-release of Kronos 2 with a faster start up and some new programs. Great for anyone who wants a spanking brand new Kronos 2 . (Now dubbed, Kronos 3).
Everyone follows the Apple playbook and acquieses to the aftermarket need to call it "Kronos 3" and the mainline refusal to call it "Kronos 3" anywhere visible.
Please make it ATTRACTIVE with WOOD !!! We keyboardists play instruments that looks like TOYS ....I envy the bass/guitar/drums/strings players etc.....that play beautiful instruments!
Well in my opinion, they should already be worried. They’ve yet to match Korg’s quality of sounds. Korg just pays better attention to the details. And I’ve been a Yamaha guy for years and scratch my head as to why the flagship keyboards don’t have better piano and ep samples. They save those for the stage piano product lines which are missing some of the more powerful stations in the workstations. Korg doesn’t play those games. Flagship means all the best stuff is in there. And Roland has been recycling sounds for over 10yrs now.
Problem is that would make it a competition to 80% of Korgs own newest and most valuable synths, but yes that would have been cool. I think that Korg earns a lot more money in selling all those Pi based mini synths than they ever did with the whole catalog of Oasys based models. This is just a rebranded Kronos with some new hardware and some more modern sample libraries just as Nautilus was in a slightly "cheaper" package without all the real time controllers. They just waited what .. 4 years ? to figure out there were still a market for the Kronos for the pro people in cover bands and various session bands that tours with the big stars to have an opportunity to trade in their old Kronos's as they start to fail. It's still the most powerful Workstation ever made and People that like either the software or hardware version of the different smaller Synth will still be buying them, also if they may slightly overlap each other in what kind of musicians that typically buy them. If you are a Pro and need a Wavestate, Modwave etc. you WILL still buy them separately even you have one or 2 Kronos already for touring. Korg don't really need to put more functionality in the Kronos. Those that seriously use the different engines and sampling engine will most likely know what software to use to get maximum effect out of the slightly archaic UI of the Kronos. But still, they could easily do a full overhaul of the UI without having to sacrifice the backward compatibility with the earlier models. I don't see a reason to trade my own K2 in as long as it works flawlessly, but for those that really relies on the Kronos on stage, and where the reliability already is a problem I am glad Korg releases a new model, even it only got a slight better factory library of samples as an upgrade. I would have liked to see a more powerful hardware with a software that was able at least deliver 2x-3x as much realstical polyphony. But they most likely just chose some new hardware that is able to run the standard software and that at the same time cost half as much today so they can actually up there earnings on a 4k instrument.
@@mrdali67 I think Kronos matters as a flagship, more than as a line item on their balance sheet. However I bet that mentality died years ago and now Korg is run by accountants.
Well, sad that they didn’t put the z1 as an engine ,it could be a really refreshing upgrade for a product that many (as I) think that doesn’t need really to change. Imagine next to the str1 a z1 or moss or whatever they would call it!
1:25 "wood end panels... certainly give an air of quality to the keyboard." LOL, you know what else would give an air of quality? NOT BREAKING. My Kronos 2/73 is the only keyboard I've ever owned that I'm afraid to gig.
There’s only so far these keyboards can evolve. Sample based technology has probably peaked. I’m grateful the Kronos 3 is going to be available as I own both the 73 and 61 key versions (version 2) and can attest that the sounds are great, the action is solid, the user interface offers knobs and buttons and sliders for immediate access to so many parameters. With this instrument one can go deep or simply use the vast and varied presets to cover a wide array of genre. Yes it would be nice to have more polyphony, a larger SSD, a much improved organ engine, and so on but the original design was so far ahead of its time that it still is an incredible tool (especially if one actually dives in and utilizes it’s full potential) for covering existing music and creating new. We shall see.
I own a pair of Kronoses. Other than the faster boot time and the additional patches for the new multisamples, it’s basically a Kronos. Not sure I see myself upgrading to this generation.
Not sure this is a compelling upgrade for current Kronos owners but it’s on parity with the modest changes made in competing Fantom EX and Montage M keyboards. Small, nice to haves for new buyers but not much special for existing customers.
OH LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. THANK YOU KORG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have always wanted a Kronos since they discontinued them. Nautilus to me just seems very limiting.
I bought the original Kronos back in 2012 and loved the thing. The big issue for me was the uninspiring GUI and crappy touchscreen... if they have sorted that out then could be quite nice. But yes they should have all those OPSIX, Wavestate engines IMHO...
Glad Kronos is back, it’s been the most compelling Korg product since its release. But the Ignorance of Moores law in the keyboard workstation market is irritating.
Is there an expected price range for the 3 options. I'm a Kronos 2 user, have no real issues with the Kronos 2 but just curious as regards upgrade options etc.
Not so dissapointed as me seeing the facelift of my Genos, called "Genos2". Genos 2 is a facelift with some hidden Expansion packs, called "new sounds* and "fm".

IMHO, if Karma isn't reworked, it's not worth the buy. The KRONOS 1+2 lacked the simplicity of a convenient arpeggiator, or at least some ease of use. It also has a gruesome GUI when it comes to programming all the Karma stuff. You basically get all the sounds on the old KRONOS, too. The only real selling point ist the updated hardware infrastructure, which may result in better polyphony in complex combinations (and, of course, better boot speeds). Insofar, it's an overdue update, but no new features. It's 15 year old renowned technology that finally got a technological facelift. I would have loved a KRONOS successor that dares to combine the powers of a deeply programmable Workstation with the hands on live control capabilities of a keyboard like the NORD Stage. But i guess that's nearly impossible to pull off. Like others already have pointed out, small computers and laptops have grown up to a point where Workstations are becoming obsolete. Insofar, i am not surprised that KORG isn't coming up with a totally new flagship keyboard. However, KRONOS still is king. And there are some reasons to have on in your back pocket.
Disappointing update, maybe the old, unrevised sequencer is still there, the same limited RAM size because of the 32 bit operating system/CPU, 62 GB hard drive isn't much, the 20 year old Oasys already had 40 GB, you get 1 TB today for free(or under 100 Euros). Installing the same synth plugins unchanged for 20 years takes courage, or is a sign of lack of concept and a “we don’t feel the future, we have no clue” mentality. Old wine in new bottles.
Is this a joke ? The Kronos 3 should have ( Mod Wave/ Wavestate/ Opsix ) included. Those older 9 engines are not even competing with modern VSTs. Get a Komplete Kontrol s88 mk3 with Poly Aftertouch and a MacBook and use much better sounding Vsts. Even Yamaha Montage M has a VSTi now, Korg not offering this ? This is a huge let down.
Yamaha went ahead, Roland and Korg are still on same old chasis from previous millennium. Sorry long long time ago I sold Kronos and Fantom, but still hope they will introduce some really new models ( not piece of sh.... as Nautilus )
Korg brings a synth that was groundbreaking in (checks notes) 2011 back with minor spec adjustments and new soundware/content in 2025. Yup, seems about right. This is Korg phoning it in as usual. Which move was lazier, just dropping Kronos without a planned replacement (Nautilus downgrade is not a replacement) or waiting a few years and then bringing back the same thing they dropped. Korg devotees rejoice.
Has Korg gone mad . I have been waiting to buy a new Kronos for years now. Only to be disappointed .korg where is the innovation we use to know. Same old synth nine engine ,no polyphonic aftertouch. Nothing of that sort .62 gigs sad in 2025. I hope you guys have a surprise up your sleeve cause Roland Yamaha and Nord just left you behind .WHATS NEW APART FROM THE PAINT JOB.I AM WAITING
Re releasing a 12 year old instrument and increasing the price is criminal. They should have released a rack mount. What the real message is that 1) Nautulus was ugly and Cheap. 2) their next gen player has been delayed more than Korg has anticipated. Now Korg want you to buy their Kronos and for you to sell you Kronos X or Kronos 2. Just to buy their same thing? At the increased price, I wonder if they’ll add octave transpose button. It’s just two buttons.
The technological leaps of the past are over. It is becoming more and more like with the cars. New car with some bulbs changed and a few small things added that are not really of much use. It seems that this also happens in the keyboard world.
Korg is just milking the Oasys until the last drop. This is so bad. The Kronos OS is so incredibly archaic it’s like a time traveling machine to 1995. Really terrible.
Only 62 gb ssd is a huge disappointment. Hopefully it will have upgrades to structural integrity, keyboard action and modernization of sequencer to make it a worth while upgrade.
Finally, Korg brings back the winner for the 3rd time. If you look at the workstation market, it's a no brainer, there is no workstation from Yamaha for years and Roland Fantom is buggy.
I actually prefer a white or aluminum case so I can see the writing better in the dark; This release looks pretty underwhelming IMHO. I'll wait until release before I pass judgement
I generally agree with this, except the Kronos sounds are better. I almost added a Nautilus to my MPC Keys for the sounds, but the touchscreen and other limitations were too irritating.
@ the great thing about the keys is that it’s a diy workstation so you can make sounds based on samples from literally anywhere like Native Instruments or any VST , the sequencer is superior to anything else out there too and it has pads, I also like Korg sounds but I simply refuse to pay £1400 for a Nautilus, for some software instruments, over Christmas sales I bought the Jura synth for £ 3d for the keys it sounds amazing 😂🤔😎
@ well korg kross 1 has upgraded to korg kross 2 with pads and memory samples, and in my opinion korg removing those knobs, faders etc is not a good idea thats why they decided to bring back the kronos which nautilus is lacking. The old kronos has korg krome but no faders.
Wow. Sounds great. Slow clap....
So happy the Kronos is back

Hope they will add a lightweight version like modx, and add 16 sample pad.
Analysing the past decades, there's no chance that Korg will make mid-priced workstations better than Kronos....
There's Juno DS series with pads.
@ well korg kross 1 has upgraded to korg kross 2 with pads and memory samples, and in my opinion korg removing those knobs, faders etc is not a good idea thats why they decided to bring back the kronos which nautilus is lacking. The old kronos has korg krome but no faders.
