  • Michelle, Founder of Virtual Hand Care, shows you how to get elbow extension back after an elbow injury, radial head fracture, olecranon fracture, or elbow dislocation. It can be difficult to get the last little bit of elbow extension (or elbow straightening) range of motion. These 2 elbow exercises make it easy to get your elbow motion back.

    Hi Michelle. I suffered a devastating distal fracture in my right arm last year. It took a 6 hour surgery to out it back together with metal plates and screws. My arm was so stiff after that. Till I watched this wonderful video and incorporated these stretching techniques in my daily routine.
    It worked like a charm. Apart from stretching daily, I almost always dangle my arm from the couch while watching tv, gently for prolonged periods and alternate it with light weights.
    It's worked like a miracle. Within 2 months, I regained a lot of extension. So much so, even my surgeon was impressed with the progress.
    God bless you. Thank you.

    Despite not feeling instant pain after a lift yesterday, I woke up this morning without the ability to straighten my right elbow. The first stretch didn’t really do much for me (probably because I’m not the best at loosening up in general), but the second one helped and after only 5 times of 30 seconds, my arm is mostly back to normal. It still does slightly hurt when trying to straighten it out, however the pain is minimal enough that I can do it with no problem

I am taking Xarelto ....strong blood thinner......My whole left arm turned purple/black and now at 10 days some of the blood in thinning out.....I went to the ER at day -7. They also said I had a broken blood vessel.... In the ER, they did not tell me to try to straighten it out.........so I did not learn about it until 5 days later was I told to exercise the painful arm.......I was wondering if I can straighten out this frozen elbow???? Should I go to a therapist ???

    Found a great way to apply the gravity extension stretch. My tables were not the right height. But I laid on my back one foot in from the edge of the bed and stuck my arm straight out. The elbow was just beyond the edge. Very comfortable position so I could stay there as long as I wanted. Over the course of two or three minutes my hand sunk about 2 inches. Three days ago with my upper arm hard against a wall, my hand was 10" away. It was getting better anyway each day, but after the bed stretch, my hand now can touch the wall.

    • @VirtualHandCare

    Please help me. I had an operation on my hand because the thumb tendon was cut, and after removing the stitches, the doctor advised me to do physical therapy, but the thumb tendon got stuck, so the doctor returned the operation to me so that the tendon moved in its course easily. But now the tendon is still short and my thumb can't reach the palm of the hand and the hand muscle is weak and I still can't grab small things with my fingers. Please advise me with information and how long it takes for the tendon to return to its length, knowing that the first operation was in October and the second was in January, and thank you very much for the videos. They are very useful, but I find it difficult to apply them because the strength of my hands is weak, especially the thumb.

    Thank you for this video! I had a bike accident, torn off my triceps muscle and damaged the elbow a little bit. I had a surgery and then had to wear a bandage for 6 weeks. I have been doing my physiotherapy for the last 7 weeks and I seem to have fully restored the extension (about 0 - 2 degrees) and flexion. However, my movement has the whole range of motion only when I do the exercises and the muscles are warm. When the arm is untrained I still miss between 4 or 5 degrees in extension and have only about 115 degrees of flexion + it is quite painful to do these movements. I will keep exercising and hope that sooner or later I will have the same range of motion even without training.

    • @ihorzakharchenko1485
      @ihorzakharchenko1485 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Here is an update from me: I finally got full elbow flexion only after 5 months of training. Now the flexion is identical to the healthy arm. My supination and pronation were not damaged. But the extension is quite stubborn. I have visited 3 different physiotherapists and 3 doctors. All of them told me I have 0 degrees of extension but I don't feel comfortable with it because I used to have about -5 degrees of hyperextension. I can make my arm fully straight but while on my healthy arm the head of olecranon is fully hidden under the muscles I can see a small bit of it on my injured arm even when fully extended. My surgeon told me that I still have time to get my hyperextension back, the room for improvement is one year, so I still have 6 months to get those final several degrees of hypertension and will keep training. I have heard that shockwave therapy might be helpful so I will try this as well

    I broke my arm and I removed the cast yesterday as my dad ( a doctor ) told me to remove it because it healed (I put it for one week and 3 or 2 days only) and today I went to do X-ray and it really healed thankfully 😅 . I see a lot of positive comments and I will try to try the excersice and tell u how it went for me !

      Ask your doctor and see a certified hand therapist before you start moving. You more than likely have a protocol to follow at this time.

    Hi there how can I tell if is safe to do push ups and put weight on my elbow? My sport therapist tested my elbow and said is stable but don’t know if maybe my fear is playing up

    • @VirtualHandCare
      @VirtualHandCare  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can always be scary the first time putting weight into the arm but your therapist and doctor would know more about this. There are ways you can slowly introduce modified push ups into your elbow. This may help your nervousness.
