  • In this video I use my John Deere 5045e and my Frontier box blade to work up my garden. This was the third time breaking up the ground using this method. Works pretty well to get roots and rocks dug out especially when breaking new ground.

    That is a real view of spring! Here, we still have a foot of snow on the ground after a few days of rain! This John Deere 5045e is a beast! I like it!

    Great use of the box blade and scarfiers. I have the 5055D, 2009.... not the 5055E, and I love it. Mine is two wheel drive and the 5055E is 4wd. (Wished I had purchased the E now) Love what the box blade did as far as turning under and loosening up deep. Great idea in late winter and early spring to get that deep moisture back in the ground along with aerating the soil. Be surprised how many folks either dont think about that or simply dont know. Soils that compact easily... clay type soils in particular... really need this about two weeks or so ahead of planting season. I normally keep my garden area broke year round to control weeds and grasses. I disked last October in a contor fashion to get deep moisture over winter . Now I was thinking of running the cultivator over it but after watching this I am gonna use my box blade. Again it is a learning process and if you use the tiller often the soil tends to be fine enough that it increase its ability to become compacted easily with a few rains. I like this better as it leaves a few clods to help keep it aerated and loose. When you do use the tiller... again try to a week or so before final tilling to plant, make sure to use the tail board chains and raise the tailboard all the way up. If you run the box blade like you did... then you run the tiler a week os so later with the tailboard all the way up... you expose more roots to the air and the stuff you dont want in your garden dies better. If you run the tiller with the tailboard down... it presses the soil with live roots right back down and all your are doing is transplanting grass in a finer soil/seed bed and giving it the best chance to survive in a warm moist soil with great root to soil contact.Funny how important it is to read the operating instructions when we know everything! Lol! Did that for about three years before I read mine... then I had a differnt kinda RED after I read!! Yall have fun. Enjoyed the video and subscribed. I do a lot of this and am now am a tractor service for others. Gimme a yell if you have questions about soil preparation. Post questions here to boost this channel and this video. More need to see this one. Ima save it it my videos as well for quick reference. To see more click on mine. Im not making videos yet but have a lot of VALUABLE ones saved with cool ideas and tools. Feel free to browse my saved videos list as I make most of them public and sort by content.
    I do have a question for Our Green acres.
    I see what looks like a tank below the right step. Is that an auxillary hydraulic tank? Looking at boosting my hydraulic flow and mayby hydraulic pressure to make my grapple more effective. Considering an auxillary PTO hydraulic pump with multiple valve bank to run things with.I dont think the standard JD set up really gives enough flow to work the grapple like I want it and the PTO can also be used to run a hydraulic cutter on the load along with making a log splitter a real work horse. Seeing what looks like a tank makes me think about just the PTO pump instead of having to add the tank on the 3 point hookup like the rig I saw today. Gimme a shout. Thanks in advance for your time.

      Hey Smoke thanks for watching and commenting yea those scarfiers really do a good job breaking up the soil. I have used this method for a few years now and really seems to work well. When I bought my tractor 2018 I think they were all E models with 4wd as and option. I'm not sure what you are seeing under/behind the step, but I'm not aware of any extra tank for hydraulics. Just a heads up, but I have started a new channel just for the outdoor things of Our Greene Acres and I just did another video using the box blade doing the same thing. Thanks again really appreciate you stopping by and subscribing.

    Looking good. I’m thinking you better just give her this John Deere and you can go get a second one Ben. I’m thinking Teresa is a natural operator !! Great garden. By now it’s probably REAL good !!

      She did good just took a little time. I’ve tried in the past and she never would try. I put it in low and all she had to do was clutch forward reverse and neutral. Sure saved a lot of time. She can have this one and I’ll sit in the shade and watch. Take care brother

      Hey Jeremy it just has an extendible two prong metal arm that folds out works very well. Funny you ask I just did another video on this subject editing it right now to upload on my new channel OGA Outdoors it should be out by Saturday might have some better footage of the toplink.

    Thanks for posting and sharing! One question. How big is the 5045E compared to say a Ford 8n or Massey Ferguson 135?

    • @OurGreeneAcres
      @OurGreeneAcres  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Marty thanks for stopping by and commenting. I’m not for sure I would think it would be a little larger. The 5045e is a 5000lb tractor and rated at 45-50hp depending on where you look. The dealer put mine on the dyno and it had 50 PTO hp. Hope this helps and hope to hear from you again. Take care brother

    How do you like your loader on a 2wd tractor sir?

    • @OurGreeneAcres
      @OurGreeneAcres  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Works great no issues with traction when loading. I’ve moved gravel, dirt, mulch, firewood etc and drug a wood chipper around. Thanks
