Put an overflow pipe on one end of the dam, where it discharges toward the creek. Use a backhoe or mini ex. Then find any soft spots or leaky areas. Dig it out, then pack it back in. Nice work with the grader box. My favorite implement for sure. I like the weights and the tilt cylinder. Slick.
Well done and the box blade is one of the most overlooked tools ! We keep one on a farm tractor year around for grading , pushing snow and sometimes I follow up after the bulldozer with it . Great tool !
You are absolutely right, the box blade is a very versatile implement. I hear guys complaining about them not working right but I always write that off to lack of experience. When you think about the number of variables to consider it is easy to understand why you need experience. Angle right and left and back and front, moisture content of the soil, whether you are pushing or pulling. Mine has never let me down and I have built a lot of road with it.
Okay, the purpose of a swale is to make a gradual dip in the ground where one can walk across it without tripping, so now your HALF done. Now tilt the blade the other way and do the other half next to that deep plow furrow you left! It will look remarkably better after a second cut, then seeding fescue and you're done!
Remember, those pans cut both ways. Every time you back up with your blade in the air, you are wasting fuel. And don’t forget to use your rippers, they loosen it up so you can cut easier. We used Massey Ferguson wheel tractors and blades to grade with commercially, and it those box graders are really the ticket for tight areas. Also, did you shoot it for fall before you began? Sorry, I don’t wanna be second guessing you, I’m an old dozer hand and used to push dirt crews, so automatically I’m like what can we do better? Good job for a little tractor like that, remember moving dirt is a thinking man’s game, do the job three times in your head before you put a blade in the ground. 💪🙏🤟 be safe out there!

Watching you with that box blade reminds me of my project for the day. We had a storm that knocked down a bunch of trees on my property. One big oak tree is laying right on top of my box blade. I had set it down out back to make room for my sawmill operation. Apparently, I chose the wrong spot! That big old tree has it driven halfway into the ground! I'm hoping that there is no damage. Terminology for things like this vary depending on where you live. Around here I’ve never heard one called that but I know a lot of people do. I bought this implement from John Deere and they call it a Box Blade
did previous owner dig pond so close to property line? have to get permits by county or city? no setbacks? that seems stupid one would or be allowed to dig a pond to close to another property to prevent these issues you are dealing with...
I am sure where you live at neighbors are different but neighbors can be fickle things! When they ask for a trench and you do something different...around my parts you end up getting sued lol. I am surprised you started on the neighbors side though...if you thickened and even raised the part near his property..dug that trench like you intended to...you might not have even had to do anything on his property at all. Is he paying you at all for doing that work on his property? In most states...if its across your property line..its the neighbors problem. I can see how you want to keep things problem free with the neighbor though since he did not have the problem before your pond work. Short but looking next to the next one!
Starting there is just a show of good faith so he knows I’m serious about listening to his problem. He was standing back there right before I started digging and I kind of told him what I was going to try first Most people are pretty laid-back around here and he really couldn’t care less what I do over there as long as it’s not muddy around his horse pen Well I was there I offered to pull some trees for him for free also. People can tell if you have a good intention
Yeah, I’ve already done that. I also Rebuilt the damn. I did this on the neighbors property because he asked me to not necessarily because I thought it was a good idea
The army corp of engineers could have you drawn and quartered for fiddling with their water. Oh! You weren’t aware that they own every drop that falls from the sky or bubbles up from the ground? I saw the give a $45,000 dollar fine to had a permit to do riparian repair in Montana. He didn’t do anything with the water itself but the tires of his excavator went a couple feet into a river. Boom! It put him out of business. They are starting such measures in Colorado.

Using the box blade while backing up each time would have cut much better & then you would still have been able to make cuts going forward each pass too. Granted, there would have been a lot more dirt to pull with the box at the end but would have taken less time & wouldn't have had the crown in the middle either.
I did use it backwards some. Sometime it digs in too hard when backing up and I can’t push it
Thanks for watching
@@RockhillfarmYT, yeah I made that comment before I finished watching the video. Words can't begin to say how much I miss being on a farm & doing the types of things you are doing.
@@kevinelrod323 I hear ya. I love maintaining this property even though it’s a ton of work
now just hope you didnt cut the key out of the damn and it slides away lol
Thanks for watching
Put a sealer gel in the pond!
BamaBass fixed their issues with a two part polymar - th-cam.com/video/MeNjGeXtvqc/w-d-xo.html
Also, never have trees on the dam says my neighbor that builds ponds.
I’m planning on it
Thanks for the tip
Tree roots search for water. The cavities roots build are great spots for leaks. Bamboo is a great barrier for dam banks.
Seems like the swale should be reversed
It's called a Gannon
Terminology for things like this vary depending on where you live.
Around here I’ve never heard one called that but I know a lot of people do.
I bought this implement from John Deere and they call it a Box Blade
Gannon was a box blade manufacturer for mostly construction loaders in Redlands CA, been to their plant several times I assume their still in business
did previous owner dig pond so close to property line? have to get permits by county or city? no setbacks? that seems stupid one would or be allowed to dig a pond to close to another property to prevent these issues you are dealing with...
Can’t say. My neighbor has lived there 30 years and It was there before that.
@@RockhillfarmYT Gotcha. good luck figuring it out, drainage is a big issue in all areas...
I’ve got somebody coming to give me a second opinion before I do anything with the dam
He was standing back there right before I started digging and I kind of told him what I was going to try first
Most people are pretty laid-back around here and he really couldn’t care less what I do over there as long as it’s not muddy around his horse pen
Well I was there I offered to pull some trees for him for free also. People can tell if you have a good intention
Seems like a bad spot for a fence.. on the side of the dam.
Yeah, I wish it wasn’t there but the fence and the pond were there long before we bought the property
You should have tilted the blade the other way too and you wouldn't have had such one sided swail.
Why don't you just put a proper over flow on your pond so you don't affect the adjoining properties?
Yeah, I’ve already done that.
I also Rebuilt the damn. I did this on the neighbors property because he asked me to not necessarily because I thought it was a good idea
So sometimes the obvious doesn't work? Dam lucky your not looking for my advice then.
If you’re a true operator then you should know how to use a box there older than i am an ive been using them for sixty years
I fast forwarded it many times and still felt like I lost a substantial part of my life.
That means that you are not the audience for this video.
My videos get millions of views per month and this is one of the shortest videos I have
@@RockhillfarmYTI tend to agree. On the other hand congratulations on the view count....march on!
