  • After years of only turn plowing with a Massey Ferguson I finally gave a Deere a try. It did good but Massey good!

    Started plowing with Dad when I was in 7th grade. Even played hooky a bit. Dad ran a 450 FarmAll and a 3-16 plow with hydraulic lift. I had an M with a rope trip 3-14. We spring plowed 100 to 150 acres a year, mostly manure covered corn stalks to be planted to soybeans. Great fun as long as the stalks and manure didn't plug the plow. Beautiful flat Iowa soil, but we had to turn around and disc and harrow it as soon as we were done to benefit from a rain and win the war on clods. Progressed through a 706, 806, 966, and finally a 1086 with a "hyra-wide" DMI 5-bottom. Glad you're enjoying the Deere. I am also looking forward to hay season, but we still have 6 feet of rock hard snow drifts in the yard due to rain events followed by spells near zero degrees. Manure hauling has worked in areas of the field that have melted down a bit.

    Looks like the John Deer did did a fine job, plowing was probably my favorite thing to do back when we had the two cylinder popping Johnnies, of course we pulled a 2 12 inche bottom Oliver plow pulled on the draw bar, eventually we had a 730 that pulled a John Deer 3 16 inche lift plow, and then a 4020 doing the same, quite a difference, but I learned on the A ,G,and 730 old school, I enjoyed the video!!!

    You have the draft control set perfectly. How can I tell? Not just the low end engine torque but the tracks the rear tires are leaving. The ground is just slightly moved by the bars. It indicates the tires are getting their maximum bite with the implement draft and machine ballast. Great job and the tractor is doing fine. The new Deeres like yours sense implement draft through the top link, just like your Massey does. Thanks for a great video-that’s one huge garden by the way.

    Ben, I'm running a MF135 and tried plowing for the first time a few weeks ago. It's just an old single bottom but I struggled to really get it tuned in. The ground is plowed but could be better. Any recommendations on getting it dialed in?

    • @khtractors
      @khtractors  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First of all not all plows are created equally. Some just will not roll dirt over good. Big things are to have a good sway bar so the plow can’t swing and have it set to run just inside your right rear tire. Thanks for watching

    I just picked up a 2 bottom plow to break ground for my daughters garden and mine.
    I have a Zetor 3320.
    Any suggestions for a newbie?

    • @khtractors
      @khtractors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pitch the points slightly to the left facing the rear of the tractor then adjust the top link so the front plow is just barely in contact with the ground before the rear. Thanks for watching

      He’s running a low rpm to control his speed. The sound totally smooths out from 1600-2200 normal rpms. Sound’s totally different at those rpms. It’s same motor they’ve used for 15 years or more, great motor
