BMW Brake Light Reset Rear Brakes after Pad and Sensor Replacement Video

  • 3 Series BMW Reset Brake Light. In this video i will show you how to reset the brake light after you change the pads and put a new brake sensor on. Basically as the brakes wear a sensor wears out and triggers the check engine light. The sensors are one time use and there are work arounds to bypassing it but honestly it's pretty cheap so best to get a new sensor. After you put it all back to together you perform the reset sequence as shown in the video and you should be good to go. Ignore the other light in the video, it is just my emergency brake light which is on at the time. This should work on most 3 and 5 series including the 328i, 335i, 528i, and 535i.
You can pick up the sensors on amazon on the cheap and other BMW Parts

THANX! Your's was the only video that included thee very important first step, push the BC until you get the time and mileage. Other videos I watched left that out and frustrated the hell out of me.

Dude. Thank you so much for this video. My dad has spent hours trying to get his brake sensor light to reset following all the crazy TH-cam videos out there. Cheers to you!

I would like to thank you for explaining that very important step, push the BC until you get the time and mileage. I tried so many times watching other videos, AND NOTHING. Finally I saw your video and got the pad wear cleared in my 2013 M3. The dealer wanted $90.00 to do it. I did have an extra step when I started the car the next time, to click OK in the vehicle status, but all the trouble because I put new StopTech BBK on the car. Thank you so MUCH for your video!! Now you ask how did I get the light to reset with no indicator? EASY, use a dolphin splice for telephone wire. You dont even have to strip the wire and twist, just slide over the two wires and compress with pliers, it makes great contact and completes the circuit. Thanks again

Thanks so much. Concise and the proper procedure. Thought I had done something wrong while installing the sensor on my 328i, but the other video I watched showed an incorrect method. Saved me a trip to the dealer.

If you try to reset the light and you get _ _ _ _ _ after reseting and the light does not extinguish, you need to change the sensors. I had this problem. I changed both front and rear pads and the sensors (got them off of ebay for $25 total, non OEM). Once I changed everything I followed the video and wholla... worked perfect. No more lines, light was extinguished and gauge was reset to 32,000. Thanks Mark you the man... !

Omg. Dude you are a genius. It worked for my 2007 335i coupe. After driving my car with the red brake light and the car on the lift. Very annoying, specially after knowing that my car didn't need the brake pads or the sensors. The brake light came on after I painted my brake calipers. Your method works 100%. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.

You are a genius!! Thanks so much

Thanks. Worked for me. Much appreciated. One thing that was different for me though is the part at the yellow triangle. I had hold the odometer reset down and in about a two second window hit the BC button to get to reset. If I held it too long the triangle went away, if I let go of the odometer reset it started me over. So for those of you who can't get it to reset, hold odometer reset down and as soon as triangle appears hit the BC button(with odometer reset still depressed). It should then enter reset menu.

btw, to actually DO the reset on each option, once you finally are able to reach the reset menu, you choose what option you want to reset one at a time. Choose the selected option, then you HOLD IN the BC button until it indicates it is actually resetting. A clock type indicator will show up as it resets and you then move on to the next option you want to reset.

I also have found that this works fine if the car is running. You can crank the car, wait for warning lights to turn off waiting for gauge to reach where it indicates outside temp, THEN hold down odometer reset. Orange triangle will appear after a few seconds, THEN hold in BC button and momentarily you will enter reset menu.
