      Thanks for the comment. Yes, pity not more chargers but next month might see patronage drop when it costs $0.60kWh to charge.

    More chargers are needed in country Victoria, like in towns like leongatha, korrumburra, fish creek, foster

    Very informative Greg. Strange though how Ampol, with its $8.5B market cap, relies on a Govt subsidy to install 1 charger. Presumably you weren’t charging because the Tesla was using the CCS2 charger. Ampol should need to install 10 chargers before getting 1 Aus tax dollar IMO. Very underwhelming. Good vid though:)

    • @ElectricCarAustralia
      @ElectricCarAustralia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nathan, I agree as well as all the $$ gifted to keep the Ampol oil refinery open through Covid fuel consumption slump. Maybe repayable loans with interest would provide the general public better outcomes rather then just handouts to Corporates. Just a thought, but who are we to challenge? :)

  • @evs2k

    I assume ChaDeMo is lower voltage, so more amps. Hence thicker cables.

    It’s great the govt funded it … but only one CCS point is pretty poor for a major public location

    • @ElectricCarAustralia
      @ElectricCarAustralia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Murray. Agreed, let's hope it's just a start and once Ampol see how popular it is they fully fund extra plugs. Cheers Greg

    Great to see this begin - using petrol station loctions (& ditto for BP). Has been some venom elsewhere about using petrol stations and the ethics of these fuel companies. However, the existing infrstructure - public locations, well lit, rest stop facilties and the rest make it very obvious for now vs. (say) female solo driver in out of the way, hard to find locations being totally unnaceptable for obvious reasons. And these same factors not only effect the solo female, but everyone really. I guess the other factor is the present waste of time in the massive trend to install 7kw home chargers in shopping centres everywhere. Total stitch-up. Minimum should be 50kw & just like Ampol appear to be doing.

    Yeah i will stick to the tesla chargers mostly the network is much larger

    • @ElectricCarAustralia
      @ElectricCarAustralia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Pk, thanks for the comment. Yes if you have a Tesla no brainer to use the most reliable and wide spread network being Tesla's own. Having said that lots of Tesla owners use other, particularly the lower cost or free chargers.

    The Charger is installed at a unfortunate location and the bays on a strange angle. It's basically the exit road from all the Dinojuice browsers. While the ABB charger has a nominal rating of 180kW it is actually limited to 200A. This means 800V vehicles get a peak of 160kW max whilst 400V vehicles (which is the vast majority) get about 75kW peak only. And while the charger can load share the other cable is wasted with a Chademo connector. One charger only at a very busy location was ok 4 years ago.....Tesla does it right for over 10 years: 4 stalls minimum per site (plus those are ultra reliable). Given the price of a whopping $0.69 / kWh (Chargefox is $0.30 / kWh, prices as of 14FEB23) this service is almost a joke. To top it off: A dozen of fossils under the roof at the browsers watched me operating high voltage equipment with zero protection in the middle of a down pour a few days after this charger was opened: There is a looooong way ahead before EVs become attractive for the masses.

    Why would you choose to hang around a place like this for 20 minutes?
    For road trips wouldn't it be more sensible to offer charging 100 to 150 Km away from the CBD after all then people going both ways would be in the position to get a top up.
    While more charges is great has Ampol considered the nuances of rapid charging for EVs? Such as many people leaving home on a road trip will be fully charged on leaving home.

    • @ElectricCarAustralia

      Hi Don, thanks for the comment. I think short answer is facilities. Things like food, drink, toilets, tyre pressure test, windscreen clean etc. Not everyone passing here started trip in Brisbane. Could be Warwick, Toowoomba etc. or taxis, ride share or commercial operators as well. Any new chargers are good one 😀
