Can someone explain the origin of it? I assume it was on a stream or something, cause it just kind of showed up in a video and he's been doing a callback to it ever since, seems so random though.
Straight up, Celtic Guardian is one of my favorite monsters in Yugioh. I was actually so pumped when Yugi briefly summoned him in the Dark Side of Dimensions movie, it was literally a fan service moment for me!
The duel with Marik isn't even the most humiliating thing for Slyfer. In the final duel between Yugi and Atem, Yugi is able to defeat the 3 god cards by using Slyfer's own ability against them, literally being the one to drag down the team. On top of that, Slyfer was the target of Atem's final ace, Monster Reborn..which Yugi had negated. That's right, the FINAL MOMENT of the original Yu-Gi-Oh's FINAL DUEL, involves Slyfer fading away helplessly.
Yeah Slyfer always felt like a terrible card honestly, its 2000 point nuke seems good but yeah its also been the downfall of that card many times and honestly it has a very large cap on its attack power and thats only if your not playng any cards or have infinite cards in your deck. Ra and Obelesk are far better as Obelesk's two abilities are absurd and its got a base 4000 attack and Ra you can just keep sacrficing monsters and life points to make it unstopable or just have it phoenix mode the field
I dunno, this ranking system seems biased against defense-focused monsters. They should be awarded points based on how many attacks they blocked and/or how long they delayed the opponent from attacking.
The fact that the lists factors in damage and times when they leave the field for a summon or effect actually removes that bias. See, defense-focused monsters in YGO just ... aren't actually really good. All they really do is deal some minor damage when your opponent attacks into them with a weaker monster ( unlikely in this context, what with the anime regularly summoning monsters in _face-up_ defense position until ZEXAL, which ... yeah, you're not gonna trick your opponent into doing that like that ) or provide very slow fuel for other cards that usually won't lead you to lose LP if they get beaten in battle. That's literally all they do, and they're not really even good at the latter unless you've genuinely got nothing better because their slowness means your opponent can accumulate field presence without difficulty, too. Basically, any defensive monster doing well on this sort of list means that it actually _served its purpose_ as a defensive monster, because it wasn't destroyed ( preventing it from going -1 in score ) and allowed the user to Tribute Summon something bigger ( increasing its score ). 'Course, since that's _all_ the monster really does, it's still not going to get high up on a list. But that's just how it goes when an 1800 ATK monster is _so_ much better than a 1800 DEF monster, because the 1800 ATK monster will survive most everything that the 1800 DEF one will, but can _also_ use its higher stat to actively impact the board state and your opponent's LP through attacks, whereas all the higher DEF one has going for it is ... surviving battle with a monster that has exactly the same ATK as its DEF. Yeah, uh, even outdated battle Traps like Mirror Force, Threatening Roar, and Waboku are all gonna do the job _far_ better than any single monster will, barring any _really_ potent defensive effects that you're not likely to find on any monster worth the effort to summon because as it happens, powerful stalling without much counterplay does not make for a very fun game.
@@hi-i-am-atan While I do understand the point you're making, I have to disagree with your statement that DEF monsters in YGO aren't good. The only defensive card I ever considered good and not a filler or part of an archetype has been Millennium Shield 3000 Def, no effect and one tribute has been nice. But that's it.
but even if a defense card is destroyed, it might be worth a point. like, if kaiba has blue eyes and vorse raider on the field, and yugi has 2000 Lp, kaiba plans on using vorse to destroy yugis next defense and use bewd to go for game, but then yugi topdecks soldier of stone, so yugi survives with 100 Lp, cause kaiba has to use his dragon for it instead. might not come up that often in DM, but for example winged kuribohs whole existence is being a blocker, not just because of his ability to nullify all battle damage for a turn, but also when using "super junior confrontation" or whatever it was called, sacrificing it, protects all other monsters from being attacked that turn, and in zexal gogogo golem is often used to waste two of the opponents attacks, which shouldnt cost him points. there are also situations where yuma forgets his defense position effect and plays him in atk mode. misplays like that arent really the cards fault.

Maybe a video on Joey's luck cards would be cool. He's always winning or prolonging duels by rolling dice or guessing face down cards. He even had to guess what card was in someone's hand at one point
All of Yugi's cards are amazing because he makes up card effects as he goes along. Even normal monsters like mystical elf with NO special abilities cast a spell to weaken the opponents monsters and kuribo explodes on contact and if combined with multiply it multiplies WAY over the max 5 monsters allowed in the RULES
I mainly watch yugioh videos in YT but it’s cool seeing some one out side of the yugitube community marking videos about Ygo even better since it’s jwits
you get my like at 2:32 - how much work did you put into this video my dude? Like I'm sorry, I know I'm almost a year late, but wtf? The fact you had to keep track of the statistic EVERY DUEL alone is worth a like. Respect for this serious dedication my man.
I'm loving the new Yu-Gi-Oh! Content, I'd love to see you talk about more than the original series, because there's a real wealth of content out there.
Alas, Gamma didn't appear in enough duels that Jwitzz looked at (only two: The tag-team with Kaiba against Lumis and Umbra and the Battle City Quarter Final against Bakura). It appeared in others in Waking the Dragons as well as the final duel against Atem in Dawn of the Duel. That's why I find Jwitzz's decision to ignore everything past Battle City and filler arcs, while understandable, somewhat cheating the system on some cards. Berfomet is another example that was only used once in Battle City but used many times afterwards, but alas, those appearances weren't factored in here.
Seriously. I actually have run one or two Giant Soldiers of Stone because they have a high defense for no tributes. It was a good way to stall so I could get good cards dueling friends in high school.
To be fair, Defense position monsters in the anime are normally just fodder for the opponent to have a reason to break out their big gun and erase it. How often did Giant Soldier of Stone or Big Shield Gardna actually block an attack and cost the opponent Life Points?
I was also pretty surprised that Dark Magician wasn't always summoned in most of Yugi's duels. It's a pretty refreshing contrast in that way. Jaden does Neos Yusei does Stardust Yuma does Hope Yuya does Odd Eyes Yusaku.......well his deck's all over the place.
Well Yusaku's deck is all over the place because they can't use the other summoning mechanics as easily like Yuya could in Arc-V That's why I hate Link Summoning. It was created to prevent Extra Deck abuse but it only made it worse since Links can do it much easier than the previous mechanics
I personally think it was stupid of Judai to use Impact Flip, letting Yugi mill Beast of Gilfer to take down his Bladedge, and then getting him to draw Card of Sanctity to draw 6 more cards. If he didn't activate Impact Flip, Yugi would have topdecked Beast of Gilfer with no monsters on field, and a 2600 beatstick on his opponent's field
I feel like dark magician increasing dark magician girl’s attack by effect from the graveyard should’ve counted for something if it didn’t, I don’t know if the last scoring criteria included that
I had one of those miraculous one card turn arounds in a game of Magic today. It's wonderful what a board wipe that only takes out your opponent's creatures can do.
Super pumped to see JWittz making content outside of pokemon. With everything going on with Game Freak, it's nice to be reminded of other franchises that brought me joy in the past
Yeah, it is rather strange how Yugi often relied on normal monsters (with no effects) with mediocre ATK stats that didn't even combo together like the Elemental Heroes and Ojamas do. I suppose it did help that one time Kaiba hit his deck with that Crush Card virus, but that was very situational, and Crush Card itself was too overpowered and was rightly heavily nerfed when made into a real life card.
This sudden insistence upon YuGiOh content warms my card gamer's heart like no other. On the chance that you do yet another one (and are open to suggestions from some rando on the Interwebs), perhaps creating a sort of primer video in context of the card game in its current state? Looking into the game's mechanics and how they've grown over the years while explaining them in kind (trying to explain Pendulums alone would probably make for quite the gag by itself), as well as pointing out cool archetypes and capping off at present day meta would be, I think, an awesome video to do, as YGO beginners would always be able to look to it for reference! Another idea would be to make videos about the in-card lore stories that transpire sometimes, like the Duel Terminal/Zefra arc or the more recent World Legacy arc, but I'm just spit-balling now. Your videos are always top-notch, no matter what they're about. Best wishes to you!
Summoned Skull is really good for early Yu-Gi-Oh! since special summoning wasn't as prominent as it was and strategies were more beatstick reliant so a 1 tribute 2500 beatstick is great.
You could also make the case for Cyber-Tech Alligator, seeing it has the same ATK as Summoned Skull, but with 400 more DEF and only level 5 instead of 6. Only problem back then was a lack of availability. Seriously, we had this one in the video games for decades, yet it took until _2007_ for a worldwide physical release!?
I recommend starting off by buying three copies of the Order Of The Spellcasters Structure deck. It revolves around Pendulum monsters and spell counters and there's deck profile that only use cards from three copies of said structure deck. And if you want to upgrade it with other cards I recommend checking out the deck profile on TeamSamuraiX1's channel.
Hey JWittz. On my own time, I want to use your system to find the best and worst cards of Joey and Kaiba’s deck too. Seems amusing because this analysis was fun to watch.
I was a fan because of the pure pokemon content and I loved your expansion to nintendo as a whole. But with yugioh I'm a long time fan of the game and I'd love it if you kept with an occasional yugioh video.
You should do Joey's top 10 best luck-based cards/the 10 best times his luck-based cards swung in his favor. There are a lot of good ones, since Joey has lots of stupidly amazing luck.
Yugioh video huh? Instant like. I dunno why but all of a sudden I've been really into Yugioh XD I thought these feelings had died with 5Ds lol Ok, I've finished the video and that was really cool. I'm not partaking in the bid though, I was considering but that 'crisp' bill was all wrinkled and creased so it seemed sketchy to me XD This is fascinating! Hopefully, as you poured over those episodes and collected Yugi's monster data, you will reappear with videos on Kaiba's and Joey's cards as well. I'm really interested because to me, Kaiba's deck was the most well thought out and had a semblance of consistency (the deck revolving around a certain strategy with a back up) over everyone else. His seemed to grow and get better as the series went. And Joey's deck was all over the place BUT if I understand your rules, its how well they benefitted the player in battles, correct? With Joey's insane luck, I'm sure it'd be an interesting list lol. All in all loved the video!
This is actually a really interesting format that I'm surprised I've never seen before! I'd love to see more of these! Now it's got me to thinking what Jaden's best card would be. I bet it's not Neos or Flame Wingman, I bet it's something like Card Trooper, 'cause it might get destroyed a lot, but each time it does, Jaden draws, so it never gets those minus points.

Robert HS he said WITHOUT support cards
heheh, nice. more YuGiOh videos mean more approval from me.
Maybe a video on Joey's luck cards would be cool. He's always winning or prolonging duels by rolling dice or guessing face down cards. He even had to guess what card was in someone's hand at one point
Man I love your channel, doing both Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh. you're a two in one.
TheJWittz will cover all 4kids dubbed media.
Waiting for the Funky Cops video!
One piece dub
Sonic X
@@plosflow7556 oh yeah, I forgot that was 4Kids
@@plosflow7556 I'm ready for it. Also, let's not forget . . . Dragon Ball Z Kai, 4 kids edition
You have Mushroom Man in your deck, Yami.
MUSHROOM MAN.
Is Dark Magician Girl in the top 5? Yes? That's all I needed to know
Yes
All of Yugi's cards are amazing because he makes up card effects as he goes along. Even normal monsters like mystical elf with NO special abilities cast a spell to weaken the opponents monsters and kuribo explodes on contact and if combined with multiply it multiplies WAY over the max 5 monsters allowed in the RULES
Pokemon Man evolves into Nintendo Man.
Nintendo Man evolves into Yu-Gi-Oh Man.
Something tells me he's not giving up his Archfiend of Gilfer card.
This is so nerdy... and I absolutely LOVE IT
I'm loving all this Yu-Gi-Oh content, there's pretty few good consistent Yugi-tubers, so it's nice to see it mixed into your stuff
I'm loving the new Yu-Gi-Oh! Content, I'd love to see you talk about more than the original series, because there's a real wealth of content out there.
Dark magician is out here getting the job done, he may not be the best, but he’s got the most potential
Loving all the YuGiOh Videos 👏👏👏
> Alpha: 5th place, above even Dark Magician.
> Beta: 10th place, still positive.
> Gamma: 23rd or below, not making the list.
rip purple robot boy.
Jwittz just made Yu-Gi-Oh grading more complicated XD
Still not anywhere near as complicated as Link Format.
Yoooooo no points for defensive monsters? Why you gotta do my boy Giant Soldier of Stone like that?!
Attacker Bias!
Not to mention the defensiest of defense bois, Big Shield Gardna.
chumps sitting in defense don't win the games, not even superheavies, samurais or total defensed shoguns are gonna save you here
@@mageside It should be worth a few points if their defense is what keeps you in a game instead of instantly losing on any particular round
Jaden does Neos
Yusei does Stardust
Yuma does Hope
Yuya does Odd Eyes
Yusaku.......well his deck's all over the place.
Kinda sad that once Yusei got Stardust, he rarely used Junk Warrior.
Then the final duel happened, and it was beautiful.
@@ShallBePurified Scrap Fistooo!!
Yusaku has the almighty power of FIREWALL PASS!
Well Yusaku's deck is all over the place because they can't use the other summoning mechanics as easily like Yuya could in Arc-V
That's why I hate Link Summoning. It was created to prevent Extra Deck abuse but it only made it worse since Links can do it much easier than the previous mechanics
This was really fun. I was never big into Yu-Gi-Oh but I DID watch it fairly often as a kid. You're like dredging up ancient memories.
You’re becoming a Yu-Gi-Oh channel and I’m living for it! Great content as always!
This is so much grind and heart into a video i'm surprised this isn't liked more
Beast of Gilfer was even useful for Yugi in GX when he fought Jaden!
For a pokemon channel, you've uploaded more yugioh content lately than some yugioh channels I've followed, right as I got back into pokemon, lol!.
I'm just waiting for a Yu-Gi-Oh! intro at this point..
"One fifty dollar bill" is my favorite reoccurring joke you've ever used. Please keep it forever.
So much Yu-Gi-Oh content lately. Not that I'm complaining.
Wonder what's next.
Super pumped to see JWittz making content outside of pokemon. With everything going on with Game Freak, it's nice to be reminded of other franchises that brought me joy in the past
Is this a yugioh channel now?
Not entirely.
It's a Duel Monsters channel as I don't remember him mentioning anything from 2004 and onwards.
@@pablomadrid6962 So does that make him a yugioh "genwunner" or something?
@@manekimoney kind of? I don't know his opinions on GX and beyond
Not a pack opening channel.
Acsilverfish360 also not a banlist channel.
0:03 yugi is right as all cards even the weakest can be used in a way to defeat your opponent
William worrall but only if you combine it with the best card in the game: Asspull.
Mai only has one monster in her whole deck, she still does alright...
2 on her chest
Lost to Joey lost to Tea lost marik
This was really cool. I'd love to see more videos like this exploring the other characters in the series.
*_I Summon Little Kuriboh_*
Little Kuriboh : doo da la la la...
Been getting some miles on the fity dolla bill gag Mr.Wittz? please continue, it makes me smile every time.
Love seeing these yugioh videos, really enjoying them. If you ever do more, do Kaiba, Joeys and Mai's decks.
I'm loving the increase of YuGiOh content!
@@SuperGoker64
It's defense being higher makes it worse, since it wasn't searchable with Witch of the black forest
Yugi treats the Dark Magician as his ace and his favourite, but there are so many other cards with more consistent wins in his Deck.
Love the hard work on these videos. Makes me want to give Yugioh a chance
Dude this channel came back and it’s amazing
Instead of using the term 'destroyed by battle' I will now use 'gobbled up' thanks
You should do Joey's top 10 best luck-based cards/the 10 best times his luck-based cards swung in his favor. There are a lot of good ones, since Joey has lots of stupidly amazing luck.
After the pre intro scene, I just subconsciously heard the GMM intro.
Yugioh video huh? Instant like. I dunno why but all of a sudden I've been really into Yugioh XD I thought these feelings had died with 5Ds lol
Ok, I've finished the video and that was really cool.
Nobody:
Catapult Turtle : YEET
Jwitz actually getting into the yu gi oh scene on youtube????? Bettt im down for that
Yugi: Tribute summons 3 for Slifer the Sky Dragon
Me: Active Mystic Mine
This is actually a really interesting format that I'm surprised I've never seen before! I'd love to see more of these!
Now it's got me to thinking what Jaden's best card would be. I bet it's not Neos or Flame Wingman, I bet it's something like Card Trooper, 'cause it might get destroyed a lot, but each time it does, Jaden draws, so it never gets those minus points.
omg how could you forget that one time in the last episode when beast of gilfer makes an appearance
Good to see you branching out for topics, as much as I love Pokémon.
I will buy the card and pay for 51 dollars but it need to be sign by you TheJWittz.
That would just make that card's price skyrocket after that.
This is honestly one of the coolest videos I've ever seen
8:43 I find this really funny because I’m the actual game it lead to an easy turn 1 victory and breaks the whole game apart.
Somehow, celctic guardian is an awesome nostalgic trip because almost every gameplay on my old GBA or ps2 games, he gets stacked with a horn of unicorn+ Black Pendant+ and Reckless rush for defense and kills monsters left and right.
I can never truly know sadness knowing Sanwitch is out there in a prison cell somewhere
Your vids have been POPPING my man
The end just devolved into to a Wizard of Oz "Ignore the man behind the curtain!" style rant lol.
I don’t play Yugioh, and I don’t watch any yugitubers...just a guy from the recommended page congratulating you for 2019’s best thumbnail.
