Hey guys!
In today's video, I will share THREE different ways that you can transfer a drawing or sketch to watercolour paper or canvas. I'll show you how to use graphite transfer paper, an LED lightboard, as well as a special DIY type method if you don't have either!

Im totally new to sketching and have watercolor supplies but havent started yet... thank you for showing me 2 things I haven't watched in tutorials or seen in my book... 1) tracing paper and 2) the light screen. I'll catch up on any other beginner videos you have ... Appreciate this!
Didn't even know this was possible I'm so excited to try this 😍😍
:D
Small to large. Draw a grid over your sketchbook drawing. Draw a proportionally larger one on a large canvas and use that to redraw the piece onto the larger format.
Yes, I've used graphite transfer paper and it is really hard to erase those lines, plus sometimes there are scored lines indenting the paper (yes, i'm too heavy handed LOL).
Thanks for the different suggestions for transfers!
Thanks so much! Had totally forgotten the light box technique.
I’ve always wondered about this! Thank you!
You are an amazing artist and smart too. Thank you for sharing so many great ideas. Simply amazing, amazing, amazing........
This was extremely helpful thank you!
Thanks for noting the type of pencil!
Thank you so much! I've been wondering how to do this for years. I had no idea it was this easy. Great video!
Happy New Year, Dana !! Continued success and health to you and your family. TFS, these helpful tips! 🥳🎊❄️💫🎆🎈👍🏾🎶
Graphite transfer is one of my favorite ways to transfer a drawing, my art teacher taught me how to do it and I'm forever thankful^^
I love your book. Thanks for this video ❤️
Just received your book. It is fantastic! The quality is outstanding and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. Great job 👍🏻
Thank you so much! I am so happy you like it :)
Love the cat 😩🐈🐱❤️
This is so helpful, thank you! I've been wondering recently how to go about this and not destroy my sketches :)
Thanks, great ideas. I once took a watercolor class, sketched a rose and ruined it by painting it. That sure taught me a lesson. I was so discouraged that I didn't paint for a very long time. This is a great help, thanks so much.
Oh no! Yeah it always helps to make a copy if you don't want to ruin the original! I hope you try again!
thank you. this helped lots
thank you so much! This helped me out a ton🥰

Great video! I have graphite paper and tried to erase lines with several erasers and nothing worked. That is why I was thinking about making my own graphite paper. You were able to erase commercial graphite lines and curious what kind of eraser did you use that worked in this video?
Could you tell me where you get those white wire grids you have your watercolor paintings clipped to please?
You could also take a picture of it and get a projector then it could be any size and you don’t have to trace over your sketch
Love your videos!! P.S: your cat is so cute! 😻😻❤
Maria Ruxandra Thank you! She always wants to be in my videos 😜
@@thewonderforest that's great! You two make a great team 😉 Also, thanks for replying!! ❤❤
What is the type and number of the pencil that you used to do the graphite on the back of your sketch? I think it was the second way you showed.
I've been using tracing paper, then I turn it over and go over my lines. This gives me a reverse image, but that works okay. That's how I've been using your book.
I use Saral paper as carbon paper is waxed and repels the paint.
I like graphite paper for watercolour, but not carbon paper as it's too messy. Some people use Saral paper when working with acrylics, but it also looks messy to me & has to be wet-brushed off the acrylic canvas, so imho it's not suited to transparent watercolour. I recently bought the sewing version of this paper(for tracing paper patterns) which is more like chalk on the back of paper, so I'm going to give that a try next & see how both watercolour & acrylics handle it.
You can also print your sketch onto acetate and then use a projector up to the canvas :)
I love my light board. They are less than $20 and can be used for many things.
I bought a small one for $5 at 5 below and used it for animation and art. I bought a small one to bring to work and do art in-between shows. I do have a huge light box with a really bright light. I used that during art school for animation. I use it when I have like 8 papers stacked when tracing.
How is your overhead setup doing? ive tried a million ways to do this and keep refusing to buy a magic arm extension, has your clamp lost any strenght? Mainly i dont want my Dslr camera to be swinging at some point, thanks!!
Marko Young the clamp is super strong! Still just as good as day one :) if it does happen to get a little loose at the camera attachment part from use, there is a screw that can just tighten back up. 👍🏼
Thank you, just finished mine!! Its great!
Another tip is you can use a window as a substitute light table if you don’t have one
Make a poster at Kinkos?? 😄
There are far cheaper and less inconvenient ways.
Graphite is pencil ✏.
Weird.
