  • Hi Friends!
    SCROLL DOWN FOR LINKS on the products I am using in this video!
    This video is an excerpt from a full one hour watercolor tutorial on HOW TO PAINt A ROBIN IN WATERCOLOUR which you can access here: vimeo.com/ondemand/robinwater...
    In this short TH-cam video I will show you how to easily transfer a sketch from tracing paper to watercolor paper, however you can use this method for canvas or panels as well!
    If you're working from a screen / monitor and want to save yourself a step ( in sketching the image twice), you can pre-flip the image in your image software program like photoshop or preview (if you have a mac) so that it’s already in reverse.

    I found this video after 40 years. I moved on because I didn't sketch that great as 12 years kid.
    Always wondered how people first do some great sketches and then paint.
    I will show this to my daughter. I was looking at the use of tracing paper for photography as a diffuser.

    • @CrystalBesharaArtist
      @CrystalBesharaArtist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use a burnishing tool. Essentially it’s like a pencil except it has a steel neighbor with a round ball at the end available in different sizes. Your best bet would be to head to your local craft supply store. They are often sold with transfer letters! Just ask your sales associate and I’m sure they’ll know :)

    Can yu tell hiw to trace a map in a4 sheet paper

  • @nscan2
    @nscan2 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    That, is so hard compared to just covering back of initial picture with graphite pencil and then place that on paper tape so it won’t move and trace original picture so you only trace once. You can lift as she does to make sure it transfers (don’t use really heavy pressure it will indent the new page).

    • @CrystalBesharaArtist
      @CrystalBesharaArtist  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Do whatever works for you :)
      However, the problem with the method you suggest is that, especially for people wanting to transfer their images for use of painting (particularly for watercolour) is all of that excess lead / graphite often transfers to areas you don’t want - even under the pressure of your resting hand.
      Without a discerning amount of knowledge, the lead or graphite you’ve rubbed all over the back can transfer and sully your entire paper. Speaking from 30 years of teaching experience seeing students use that method leading to frustration. I also have a background as a botanical illustrator where you must keep your art paper pristine.
      It’s much safer and cleaner to flip the image in reverse with software and trace it more exactly and rub on the top side. Zero risk of transferring all of that messy stuff you’ve covered the contact side with.
      The less erasing and clean up, the better for your actual paper. 😊

    Could I use this technique to transfer to metal?

    • @CrystalBesharaArtist
      @CrystalBesharaArtist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You could indeed by using a much darker lead like a 4B or 6B or, you can use the same idea but use a "CHINA MARKER" or CHALK or CONTE pencil in white - which woudl show up much better.

    Would a dotting tool work instead of the burnishing tool?

    • @CrystalBesharaArtist
      @CrystalBesharaArtist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So sorry for the delayed reply. Sometimes the comments don’t show up properly. I’m sure you’ve forgives it out by now but sounds like your tool would work. I think I mention even just using another pencil or , even a capped ball pint pen like a box pen. Anything hard and slightly pointed but not to sharp that it cuts the paper :)

    Hey! So we can’t use an HB pencil to drawing on top of the tracing paper with the important paper underneath the tracing paper for the last transfer step? First-timer here!

    • @CrystalBesharaArtist
      @CrystalBesharaArtist  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      hi! I'm not 100% sure what your question is but I am happy to help. Try reviewing at 1:52 on the video, I explain this a bit more clearly. Your first drawing on the tracing paper can be any pencil or pen you like, however the side that will get transferred needs to be done in reverse (traced again on opposite side of your tracing paper) and usually a soft pencil works best (because it's more transferable). Basically, the side that you want to transfer to your FINAL paper, should be done in a softer lead (an HB pencil or a very sharp 2B).

    I have a question; I'm not into drawing that much but I do have a light pad I got for free recently and I was wondering: why use tracing paper if you can use a light pad? Is it not much easier, clearer and less work than tracing paper?

    • @CrystalBesharaArtist
      @CrystalBesharaArtist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      oh you bet! If you have a light box / pad that is a huge advantage and you can skip all of this. I would say many people do not have one so this video is for them :) Alternatively, sometimes I use something I've traced onto tracing paper to "TRY" an idea out in an existing composition without committing right away. ie: If I have a landscape and want to put some sheep in it, I could draw the sheep on a piece of transparent tracing paper and move it around on the landscape until I am happy with the placement and composition. It's like old school photoshop! Cheers!
