UK price is including all the taxes, US has a tendency of showing prices before tax, so the actual cost will depend based on the state. Well, it's still fairly lower, as the average cost will be around $750 and it won't be possible to go over $800, but for that we can thank our governments, it wasn't Sony who put all those taxes there. Some places have it even worse, looking at South Africa for example, considering salaries and taxes, I don't expect it to reach the highest sales, as the PS5 pro itself will most likely cost around ~£900.

Trouble with that logic is, unlike a console that has a lot in it, Sony can pump out the drives faster than scalpers can buy them up, so if Sony is smart the scalpers will get burnt. Apparently it has already started on Amazon, but as I said these units cost Sony next to nothing to make.

The PS5 Pro CPU is the same as PS5 with a 10% boost if needed which could cause a bottleneck on CPU intensive games causing FPS drops. Unless PSSR has some sort of magical tech GTA 6 could be 30 FPS on the pro.

I fully expect this to happen because the exact same thing happened with PS4 Pro. When games like Destiny 2 released as the Pro was coming out, people were complaining and asking why they chose to target 4k over 60 FPS, not understanding that reducing resolution does nothing if your CPU can’t process the game fast enough. Because they once again chose to do almost nothing to the CPU and instead slapped an overkill expensive GPU to it, it again has a terrible balance of components. Most of the games that struggle on base PS5 do so because of the CPU already. The Pro will barely help there. These mid gen refreshes are always pretty ill conceived. I’m guessing they can’t actually use newer gen CPU for compatibility issues.

Remember buying a voodoo 3dfx card for my pc back in the day, the difference was amazing, nowadays theres no discernible difference in graphics quality for a 700 quid upgrade to a pro
One thing I'd say... "the biggest mid generation upgrade of all time"... how many mid generation upgrades have there been? And to be clear - I also don't believe this is a great product from Sony (based only on the presentation that they have provided). Playing Devil's advocate - XBox are releasing a XBsX with 2TB at USD599. While losing the disc drive (which I hate), they are gaining a significant computational capability. The value will be in what it can actually do to translate the capability to gaming.
There was only 1 - PS4PRo, and it was done not for the reasons everyone state. HDR support or 4k could be easily skipped. the fact that only 15% of all PS4 sold were PRO models, speaks for itself. The reason was that AMD was in deep shit, and simply could not offer hardware in time for normal lifecycle of console PS5 release. And Sony had to do something to stay relevant and appear to do something while they waited for ZEN and RDNA architectures to be finished. PS5Pro has zero reasons to exist. Again, the fact that majority of games shown were PS4 remaster, crossgen titles or launch titles also speaks for itself. Those games already worked and looked good, with 60 fps support. We simply lack good games tailor made for PS5, that will shine and work smoothly. And we lack them, because everything is now released multiplatform and consoles are nothing else that budget mini PC with custom OS overlay on linux in PS and windows in Xbox. The only real console maker is Nintendo. Real gaming is on PC

In the spirit of PS5 Pro, I only included ones that saw some kind of processor upgrade. If you wanna loosen your definition and count significant refreshes that are still an upgrade but had no processor change (like a Steam Deck OLED), this list gets even longer. I also excluded die shrinks (same performance target but smaller transistor size leading to more efficiency), but if I were to include those, you would have to count post 2019 Switch and pretty much every slim revision ever.

I am in Ireland and I am NOT willing to pay almost €1000 for a gaming console that isnt a pc. €800 for console plus 100 for disc drive plus 50 for the stand. Christ knows what the enhanced games will cost!
I think sony is just trying to keep the same margin they get with base PS5. What people don't understand is PS4 to PS4 pro have seen a huge jump in lithography. The processor of the PS4 was build in 28nm while the one of the PS4 pro was 16nm. They could get almost double the performance with a similar sized chip who use similar power and require similar cooling. All for a similar cost. But the PS5 pro is build on the same 5nm the base PS5 uses. It mean, to get a more powerful console, they need a bigger chip. A bigger chip cost more (way more, it is not a linear price per mm² because of defects), it require more power, more cooling, a bigger power supply, a bigger case to house everything that is bigger. All of this increase the cost. I think it is too expensive because the CD drive is not included. But with the CD drive, from 500 to 700 is not too shocking. The GPU is as powerful as a 500$ PC GPU. If you add the 2TB ssd, the CPU, the PSU and the controller, you are at around what a PC would cost (add a controller to the PC and the CD drive to the PS5). I think it's too early for a PS5 pro. They should have launched it on 3nm at 500$ in 2 years with a CD drive alongside a real PS5 slim at 400$. Or add 50$ on each for inflation.

This is no insight at all. Please check the Moore's law is dead channel which leaked the PS5 pro first. Between PS5 and PS5 Pro there is only a difference round about 100 dollars in manufacturing cost and prices for hardware even went down despite inflation in some other areas!

I would probably buy 5 disc drives, not to scalp, but to motivate people to make it sell more than the actual console and so future retro video game collectors can buy the disc drive for the ps5 pro with no worries of price

"Something like" is one thing, but nobody seem to focus on "Up to 45% faster rendering speed". This is a classic marketing stunt in industry, and it basically means - "In a perfect scenario". I'm absolutely convinced, that the 45% is obtainable only while using ray tracing - as the RDNA3 7700XT with custom RDNA4 enhancements on which the PRO model is based, has much better RT capabilities, that will kill the RDNA2 performance. In reality, those GPUs: 6700 vs 7700XT are some in a 40% improvement, which is OK, but wont make as much difference as people think it will. If the game runs 1600p30, it will run 4k30, that's it. If it runs variable 1080p-1600p 60, it will run 1440p-4k 60. Majority of the times, you won't notice. In this case, Sony main playing card is PSSR + frame gen. They will keep lower resolutions and upscale to achieve higher FPS. All ok, but not for £800. If you thinking about upgrade - don't. If you want to buy PS5 - wait for maniacs to start selling and grab a used one. If you want to play games, and have such money - add some extra and just buy a PC, £1100 will build you a future proof, stronger than PS5pro, upgradeable PC and all the benefits of one. Console gaming is dead.

Good thing this is completely optional. I suggest people look into how much of an improvement this is over the base version and try to build a comparable pc. The graphics card alone would be $550.
But that’s why you would never choose to pair a $550 GPU with a $100 CPU. The balance of components in these mid gen refreshes is always terrible. The majority of games stuck at 30 FPS on the regular PS5 are CPU limited. The 10% CPU overclock on the Pro will not be enough to fix it. I have zero hopes for it running GTA 6 at 60 either. All the large open worlds that cause issues for the PS5 currently will continue to do so on the Pro. Unless they were trash games that force Ray Tracing on you (like Arkham Knights) in which case the massive RT upgrade will help.

With this new PS5 Pro, Sonny themselves have become the new scalpers, this price is far to much to pay for this new console, they haven't even released any new games to go with this, I wait to see if this goes down, if it doesn't I not certain I will. They didn't upgrade the cpu Cuz they're putting FSR in the gpu. Thus them saying you don't have to choose either fidelity or performance modes anymore (Cuz AI will do it now) While the ps5 does have 16gb of ram in it, they probably had it running at a lower clockspeed hence them saying more percentage of ram/ram speed. An underwhelming reveal with an unconvincing desire to upgrade with little change of features. They should've included the Pro with dualsense edge cutting controller and stand. We all know exclusives are very thinned out this generation but could've showed off extended gameplay of Death Stranding 2 or Silent Hill 2 for what it's worth. The ps5 pro is an enthusiast upgrade much like a more expensive GPU in a PC, you are not forced to buy it. The GPU in the pro is akin to an rx7800xt which cost €529 on its own add to that a fast 2TB SSD with heatsink that also costs €200 on its own, then you start to realize that €800 for a ps5 pro is a steal. Talking about upgrades the RTX5090 is around the corner that thing will suck 600watts and the custom ones will be around €3000 look how they will all flock to buy it for a 10% speed increase on their rtx4090 which they bought for €2500.
I was waiting for Pro to buy PS5 and I would, even with that crazy price, but only if a disc unit was built in. Now I'll spend that money for a PC upgrade and I will wait for PS6.

Most developers are going to care about the already existing systems and the problems the Xbox already has between S and X. The prior midgen upgrades were pretty disappointing to begin with and games not even getting upgrades on one or the other. (In that regard Microsoft gave people a better way of improving existing games,on the Series consoles were it not they stopped supporting it)
People can't keep calling the Series S the problem when the PS4 Pro Pro, and PS4 Pro Pro Pro have sich different GPUs and a game for one needs to work on the other. If they do, you know it's just bias against Microsoft to drive them out and give Sony the chance to do this every generation.

This console can render games at 4k without using PSSR at 60 frames per second and the PS5 can run the same game at 1440p and can't hit 60fps as it runs the game at 45fps and I don't like buying products if I ain't got the top one available so I'm getting it in December

I use the PS3 nowadays mostly as a music cd player ps5 cant even do that lol

One thing I'd say... "the biggest mid generation upgrade of all time"... how many mid generation upgrades have there been? And to be clear - I also don't believe this is a great product from Sony (based only on the presentation that they have provided). Playing Devil's advocate - XBox are releasing a XBsX with 2TB at USD599. While losing the disc drive (which I hate), they are gaining a significant computational capability. The value will be in what it can actually do to translate the capability to gaming.
There was only 1 - PS4PRo, and it was done not for the reasons everyone state. HDR support or 4k could be easily skipped. the fact that only 15% of all PS4 sold were PRO models, speaks for itself.
The reason was that AMD was in deep shit, and simply could not offer hardware in time for normal lifecycle of console PS5 release. And Sony had to do something to stay relevant and appear to do something while they waited for ZEN and RDNA architectures to be finished.
PS5Pro has zero reasons to exist. Again, the fact that majority of games shown were PS4 remaster, crossgen titles or launch titles also speaks for itself. Those games already worked and looked good, with 60 fps support.
We simply lack good games tailor made for PS5, that will shine and work smoothly. And we lack them, because everything is now released multiplatform and consoles are nothing else that budget mini PC with custom OS overlay on linux in PS and windows in Xbox.
The only real console maker is Nintendo.

I’m certain there’s others but I only went as far back as N64 cause I don’t know much about older ones. In the spirit of PS5 Pro, I only included ones that saw some kind of processor upgrade. If you wanna loosen your definition and count significant refreshes that are still an upgrade but had no processor change (like a Steam Deck OLED), this list gets even longer.
I also excluded die shrinks (same performance target but smaller transistor size leading to more efficiency), but if I were to include those, you would have to count post 2019 Switch and pretty much every slim revision ever.

I am in Ireland and I am NOT willing to pay almost €1000 for a gaming console that isnt a pc. €800 for console plus 100 for disc drive plus 50 for the stand. Christ knows what the enhanced games will cost!

I think sony is just trying to keep the same margin they get with base PS5.
What people don't understand is PS4 to PS4 pro have seen a huge jump in lithography. The processor of the PS4 was build in 28nm while the one of the PS4 pro was 16nm. They could get almost double the performance with a similar sized chip who use similar power and require similar cooling. All for a similar cost.
But the PS5 pro is build on the same 5nm the base PS5 uses. It mean, to get a more powerful console, they need a bigger chip. A bigger chip cost more (way more, it is not a linear price per mm² because of defects), it require more power, more cooling, a bigger power supply, a bigger case to house everything that is bigger.
All of this increase the cost. I think it is too expensive because the CD drive is not included. But with the CD drive, from 500 to 700 is not too shocking. The GPU is as powerful as a 500$ PC GPU. If you add the 2TB ssd, the CPU, the PSU and the controller, you are at around what a PC would cost (add a controller to the PC and the CD drive to the PS5).
I think it's too early for a PS5 pro. They should have launched it on 3nm at 500$ in 2 years with a CD drive alongside a real PS5 slim at 400$. Or add 50$ on each for inflation.

Please check the Moore's law is dead channel which leaked the PS5 pro first. Between PS5 and PS5 Pro there is only a difference round about 100 dollars in manufacturing cost and prices for hardware even went down despite inflation in some other areas!

It would be way cheaper to buy digital and external hard drive . I agree PS5 pro has split the gaming community. I think Sony is going to lose a lot of money . Will the console price go down for black Friday? Realistically the average game still runs at 30fps. The Pro isn’t going to change that .
"Something like" is one thing, but nobody seem to focus on "Up to 45% faster rendering speed".
This is a classic marketing stunt in industry, and it basically means - "In a perfect scenario".
I'm absolutely convinced, that the 45% is obtainable only while using ray tracing - as the RDNA3 7700XT with custom RDNA4 enhancements on which the PRO model is based, has much better RT capabilities, that will kill the RDNA2 performance.
In reality, those GPUs: 6700 vs 7700XT are some in a 40% improvement, which is OK, but wont make as much difference as people think it will. If the game runs 1600p30, it will run 4k30, that's it. If it runs variable 1080p-1600p 60, it will run 1440p-4k 60. Majority of the times, you won't notice.
In this case, Sony main playing card is PSSR + frame gen. They will keep lower resolutions and upscale to achieve higher FPS.
All ok, but not for £800. If you thinking about upgrade - don't.
If you want to buy PS5 - wait for maniacs to start selling and grab a used one.
If you want to play games, and have such money - add some extra and just buy a PC, £1100 will build you a future proof, stronger than PS5pro, upgradeable PC and all the benefits of one.

But that’s why you would never choose to pair a $550 GPU with a $100 CPU. The balance of components in these mid gen refreshes is always terrible. The majority of games stuck at 30 FPS on the regular PS5 are CPU limited. The 10% CPU overclock on the Pro will not be enough to fix it. I have zero hopes for it running GTA 6 at 60 either. All the large open worlds that cause issues for the PS5 currently will continue to do so on the Pro. Unless they were trash games that force Ray Tracing on you (like Arkham Knights) in which case the massive RT upgrade will help.

While the ps5 does have 16gb of ram in it, they probably had it running at a lower clockspeed hence them saying more percentage of ram/ram speed.

An underwhelming reveal with an unconvincing desire to upgrade with little change of features. They should've included the Pro with dualsense edge cutting controller and stand. We all know exclusives are very thinned out this generation but could've showed off extended gameplay of Death Stranding 2 or Silent Hill 2 for what it's worth.

The ps5 pro is an enthusiast upgrade much like a more expensive GPU in a PC, you are not forced to buy it.
The GPU in the pro is akin to an rx7800xt which cost €529 on its own add to that a fast 2TB SSD with heatsink that also costs €200 on its own, then you start to realize that €800 for a ps5 pro is a steal.
Talking about upgrades the RTX5090 is around the corner that thing will suck 600watts and the custom ones will be around €3000 look how they will all flock to buy it for a 10% speed increase on their rtx4090 which they bought for €2500.
I see it as an upgrade option for the PSVR2 enthusiasts who dont want to invest in a gaming pc

Most developers are going to care about the already existing systems and the problems the Xbox already has between S and X. The prior midgen upgrades were pretty disappointing to begin with and games not even getting upgrades on one or the other.
(In that regard Microsoft gave people a better way of improving existing games,on the Series consoles were it not they stopped supporting it)
People can't keep calling the Series S the problem when the PS4 Pro Pro, and PS4 Pro Pro Pro have sich different GPUs and a game for one needs to work on the other.
If they do, you know it's just bias against Microsoft to drive them out and give Sony the chance to do this every generation.

This console can render games at 4k without using PSSR at 60 frames per second and the PS5 can run the same game at 1440p and can't hit 60fps as it runs the game at 45fps and I don't like buying products if I ain't got the top one available so I'm getting it in December
