I suffer from TMJ and l I am constantly in awe of how difficult receiving care is. It felt like Dr. Suzie was telling my story as someone who saw a behavioral therapist, neurologist, and gastroenterologist over the course of 3 years before I self-diagnosed myself with TMJ. I deeply appreciate her speaking on this to spread awareness and am so grateful for doctors like her!

@haleyannan I’m sorry it took so long for you to get a diagnosis. I hope you have a good team of providers now, and that your pain is manageable.

    Love this!!!
I work as a nurse coordinator in the pediatric hematology setting and find these principles to be universally applicable. Also a great reminder in dealing with my mom’s chronic pain. Thanks, my friend, Dr. Suzie - well said!👍👏🏻

Wow! Thanks for sharing. I have a rare chronic pain disease too, CRPS (the suicide disease) in 3 limbs, and have to explain it to nurses, dentists and mental health professionals all the time. It affects every part of my life. Started with a car crash, one lousy x-ray and 25 years later, I'm a daily warrior begging for better healthcare coordination.

Thanks for talking about TMJ. There just isn’t enough proper care and experienced dentists 🦷 were I live to help my chronic TMJ that I’ve had for over 40 years now. So I continue to struggle and suffer from it. I expect that I will never find the proper treatment and relief from it and will die with still having never had any relief and the above mentioned. I just hope someday TMJ will be recognized and treated seriously for anyone who suffers with it. 🙏🤕

Preach!! Dr Suzie and Dr Ryan makes a wonderful team that practices what they teach. I've seen so many people who have finally found their answer with them after such a long journey to do so. An uphill fight to have a more cohesive healthcare system, but one worth fighting for

Absolutely inspiring talk! The emphasis on TMD health and the value of interprofessional care is crucial. It's fantastic to see how collaboration between different healthcare disciplines can lead to more comprehensive and effective treatment for patients. This approach not only enhances patient outcomes but also fosters a more integrated and supportive environment for providers. Thanks for shedding light on this important topic and advocating for a more connected and holistic approach to healthcare!

Great eye-opening (& jaw-opening) talk by Dr Suzie Berman ! We have the NIH-backed HEAL initiative, the NIDCR backing TMJ research, and the TMJ patient help group. But we need personal accounts as Dr Suzie Berman delivers here to make more people understand and feel what this disorder means. - GREAT !

“Efficiency over empathy.” Exactly. And often efficiency over effectiveness. I’ve suffered so much medication damage from this high speed symptom-masking-with-pills and then treating-the-side-effects-of-all-the-pills-with-more-pills approach because I have a super sensitive, prone to inflammation body. This was a great talk! Thank you!

Kathy and I have been patients if Ryan and Susie for 25 years. Not only are they absolutely awesome as people and dental providers, but they have helped us with an amazing expensive and difficult situation that speaks to exactly what Suzie is talking about . Kathy suffered severe teeth and jaw damage following chemotherapy. The jaw bone deteriorated from the cancer treatment. However, medical insurance disallowed coverage as being a dental problem. Dental Ryan was certain of the cause and helped draft an appeal - supported with NIH research - that resulted in Blue Cross medical covering the cost as a direct result of cancer treatment. This truly underscores Suzie’s push for better interaction between health care professionals. Were Ryan and Suzie not so helpful and forward thinking, we would have incurred a tremendous expense. Moreso, one wonders if medical and dental communities talking with each other might devise strategies for lessening the dental impact of a medical treatment. Great that they are creating awareness of the need to interact as one both in research and in treatment!!

Suzie has completely changed my life. I can’t say enough wonderful things about her. I saw many doctors and was told I had Trigeminal neuralgia and was about to get brain surgery to fix the pain that was over taking my life. I am in the early 30s and a mom. So it was the last thing I wanted. My last hope was Suzie and she helped me realize I had TMJ/TMD. I now have my life back. Amazing TED Talk Suzie!!

I'm living this right now. I damaged my condyle as a child. My right tmj is pushed back which is pushing back my tounge blocking off my air way. It's causing sleep apnea as well. My face isn't symmetrical anymore due to the damage. Everyday I'm in pain. There hasn't been a day in 15 years that I haven't been in chronic pain. My ears pop 24/7 and theyre always full. My teeth hurt like i have a tooth ache but theres nothing wrong. And those aren't the days, weeks or months that I could go into a flare up. My doctor is clueless I had to beg for an mri to show her. Now I'm looking for a qualified surgeon who won't mess up my jaw even more than it already is. It's mentally draining. Its slowly ruining my life. I feel like every year I get worse and worse. There needs to be alot more study onto tmjd, were suffering in silence. And if you don't have thousands of dollars you can't get help because either the doctors won't take insurance or insurance won't cover it. I just wanna be able to eat, smile laugh and not hurt.
