      @@tomboy1875 I am now replacing my 10 year old 351W with a cast crank and beam-ground and weight matched but stock rods, which has survived 7500 RPM shifts 1000 times plus. So why am I replacing it? Going with a 438" Windsor. 359 wasn't big enough for a 3000 pound pickup. Not a problem. So...keep playing that BS, but put your ear buds in so nobody else has to hear it.

    • @tomboy1875
      @tomboy1875 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      oldmusher oldmusher whoopty doo good for you bud lol. Will say I won’t speak on a Windsor since I’ve never seen one throw down. I was more or less speaking on the poor mans build in my eyes which is a junkyard iron block truck motor and throw some power adders at her until I get to happy with the tune and grenade it. Then I turn around and do it all over. 500 a motor isn’t bad at all lol. I’ve tried a 4.6 and had several coyote f-150’s I let my guys use in the log woods and both the coyotes shit themselves around 100-120k miles and the 4.6 did the same when I pushed it past 500 horses on stock internals. You know what is still getting abused like no other and still kicking though?? The handful of Chevy trucks and even the two damn dodges I have which is a damn good surprise. The ford guy actually came buy my shop the other day trying to sell me more work horses and I laughed in his face.

    More cam and bigger heads on the 302 so it will make peak hp at 7500. The stock short block will hold together.
    Ps if anyone really wants you to use an old Chevy 302 you would have to compare it to a boss 302 Ford you can even run stock heads on them and just add more camshaft and nitrous. Boss 302s really enjoy nitrous.

    Not that impressed with the Ford, and I'm a Ford guy. Ran a 306 till it's tongue hung out. Ported 289 HP with bigger valves. RPM airgap, Fred Flintstone cam from the 70's. Did the math with weight and times slips and got 368hp at the back tires. Wilma Flintstone tried to take the engine, swore it was part of the divorce settlement with Fred. Drove it down every time on drag radials, ran the turd on motor, drove it back. Not earth shattering, but all recycled parts, cam was TRW tp109. At $750

    Well...I AM a Ford guy, and I was whining at the lame heads, cam and intake. So... that was fun, now try a 351W against a 350 Blow tie. I think Nitrous wins this one.

    @jackcurrence263 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    As a (more or less) Chevy guy, I will gladly cede 5.0L pushrod superiority to Ford. The cute bore of the Chevy 5.0L really hobbles it in terms of making power; IMO using a 305 outside of a truck application is just using the wrong tool for the job.

    • @jackcurrence263
      @jackcurrence263 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jeff Kopis Not the two valve pieces... those things were dogs, even though the OHC design let them place the valves in a more advantageous location than a pushrod design would have. Valve shrouding against the bore wall... the struggle is real! But yeah, multiple cams/valves, boost, and RPM work wonders for making power. :-)

    • @jackcurrence263
      @jackcurrence263 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jeff Kopis True; they at least closed in on making 1 hp per inch. Unfortunately, that was at the same time that GM was rolling out the LS-powered F-bodies...

    The 307 Olds, 318 Dodge, and 301 Pontiac’s were battling the 305 Chevy and 302 Ford’s in the 80’s. Let see how the 1980 “other guys” V8’s did against the Ford and Chevy.

    • @richardholdener1727

      what was the 301 Pontiac in except the Turbo Trans Am?

    • @Fehrway_Engines
      @Fehrway_Engines 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 301 was in the Pontiac A/G-Body cars (Grand Prix, Grand Am, & LeMans) and was one of the rare GM A/G-Body cars with a V8 4 Speed Standard option. The 1978 Grand Am CA is one cool car! I know they might not have the same power potential of the 302 Ford and 305 Chevy but that’s why they are the “Other Guys”!! I really enjoy your videos but to be honest I get more excited to see 10 pounds of boost on the “Other Guys” than another boring 1000HP LS motor.

  • @edwardpate6128
    @edwardpate6128 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've always been a GM or Mopar guy but having owned a 1985 Trans Am with a TPI 305 I found it to be far from great. Just didn't understand GM going with a small bore long stroke set up like they did. Even the old 307 with a 3.875 bore and a 3.25 stroke would have been better. That small 3.736 bore from the old 1955 265 in my view just didn't breath well.

    • @hahnmowermotorsports179
      @hahnmowermotorsports179 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Robert Elmo my buddy had a 307 in a ‘70 g10 van and we threw a cam, intake and 4 barrel on it, as well as a built th350 and welded the rear diff. couldn’t find headers to fit because of the narrow frame rails, but it made decent power for what it was. People gave the craziest looks when we were doing donuts in a Burger King parking lot

      Richard Holdener I would love to see you do an episode of “The Other Guys” featuring the 307. Nobody wants them and they can be picked up dirt cheap if not for free. I always felt they had more HP potential than the 305 especially with the shorter stroke and slightly larger bore (ie higher rpms). I personally think the 305 is a lazy lethargic turd and strongly believe the 302 Ford will stomp the guts out of a 305. And I’m mostly a Chevy guy.

And for you chevy guys, remember the cleveland ford? Yeah.. I thought you would. Altho to be fair, the cleveland fords did have a few problems in racing 1 the blocks and oiling system, and ford had to really ruin the exhaust port because of that age old shock tower design they had used for way way to long. Do you have a similar TFS-SBF combo with the typical EFI 5.0l style mega plenum intake(like a TFS Track Heat or similar) that you could add to the Funnel Web-dual plane comparison too? It isn't going to be a "fair" or "equal" comparison due to the charge air cooling effects of carbs vs EFI obviously - but what I'm interested in seeing is how the CURVE of an EFI 5.0l style intake compares to the curves of the traditional single & dual planes(surely must be closer to a dual down low with those runner lengths - but maybe they breathe better than a dual up top?). I have a TFS EFI intake with a cracked plenum mounting flange corner and have been wondering if just swapping the intake out for a single plane with injector bungs(an EFI Funnel Web? hhhmmm...) would be worth doing, since it's primarily a drag car...
    ...and, frankly, those absolutely gigantic EFI plenums are REALLY annoying to deal with/work on/work around, they're just so damn HUGE!
    (this is assuming that you don't have a comparable EFI single plane test that could be used for a better comparison to the stock style EFI intake of course)

    I do like to see another test with carb spacers, I assume you already had filmed this and that's OK, I like to see what it does to this particular setup you tested as I have seen results on bigger engines, I notice as well you have different collector extension lengths and I have heard the different theories about how to select these lengths but I have never seeing actual results on a Dyno, same as carb spacer I have seen some results on Dyno but not actually trying to mimic a open plane intake by using a dual plane with different open spacers in order to have the torque advantage of a dual plane and the HP advantage of a open plane intake, I normally see 3/4" and 1" open spacers tested but what about going to 1 1/2" or 1 3/4" how much does it change if at all, same for headers collector extensions how much does it change and where do you want to start sacrificing TQ and HP over each other through these collector extensions, I know each engine have its own requirements and what works with one will not necessarily work for other, but still it will be interesting to see the results with a particular setup.

    The Ford and Chevy 5.0 were similar power wise. What really made the difference between head to head shootouts with the Camaro and the Mustang back then was not the Engine, but the chassis. The Camaro just could not compete with the lightweight Fox chassis Mustang. Similar engine power, lighter weight. Mustang wins. Very similar to the current battle between the Mustang, Camaro and the Hellcat.
