Everyone rags on the little Windsor small blocks but I love them!! This is awesome grass roots street car drag racing on a budget. I could watch this all day over the big money racers. Thanks for posting and sharing.
Anyone who rags on about ford windsor engines don't know what they're talking about. They are some of the toughest motors ever produced. The 351 has as big or even larger main & rod bearing journals than most big blocks. I started out as a chevy fan and I can tell you from personal experience those early sbc's would in no way put up with the nitrous abuse these 302's can handle.
Yes, I love this type of stuff. Go fast for cheap. Anyone can spend huge money and go fast but showing how its done on a cheap budget is really dope. Thanks for putting the videos together.
These cars came out back in the day where you had to learn how to work on cars and do everything you could to get that one last tenth to beat your buddy at the track, a set of pullies, a different belt, more juice, different clutch etc, now people that have no clue about cars will just pick one up in a lot with 600 horses and think they are Mario Andretti, lol
All go, no show; this is what drag racing used to be all about 👍, the real life working man. Just went to Bradenton down here in FL this weekend - if you didnt have $50 to $100K in your ride, don't show your face. Not at all representative of the roots of the sport or it's real bread and butter: enthusiasts on a budget.
So you call gutted cars that parts fly off of when you mash the gas a street car?? ...lol...ok They did a good job making it do what it does for pretty cheap. But other than that it it's not much. There's more to a street car than a qtr mile pass.
Well first off for weight reduction you take the front clip off there's a still bar in there ways over f****** 100 lb you get rid of it and then you get rid of all that fuel injectors s*** all the b******* wiring like he did and you got a good car good motor reliable and like this fuel injection crap they got out nowadays
Back in 1994 I was running 10.40's with a stock bottom end 302 with some old TFS Will Burt Aluminum heads, Wolverine 1087 camshaft, Bennet Racing upper intake w/ GT40 lower, Pro M 77mm maf, Accufab 75mm throttle body, 30lb injectors, SX Fuel Pump and Filter, C4 Transmission w/3000 rpm Stall Converter and 4.30 gears and lakewood shocks and struts, Southside lift bars, Eibach springs and pretty much gutted out 1988 GT and of course a 175 shot Top Gun nitrous system. I had other little bolt ons of course but the bottom end was what came from the factory.
LMAO! I've seen all kinds of crap happen to cars at the strip.... hatches pop up, hoods open, axles break, etc .... never seen taillight lens come off!
I’ve seen a stock bottom end 302 in the 5.70’s at a track I work at. He put the moon tune in it trying to outrun a 351 with a turbo and he did just that and kicked a rod out the block.
Sweet ride my man makes me wanna head out to the garage now. I wish 1000x over i would have done some heads, cam and intake swap on mine a long time ago. 11 years ago I went 7.05@ 95mph with a complete long block fuel injected 302, nothing ported with 150 shot.
With good heads and a healthy cam the 5.0 HO is actually a pretty good stock shortblock for its period in time. The Pistons are factory forged from TRW so they will take some spray. I’ve gone 10.96 on a stock HO shortblock in an 88 Notch around 2850# race weight on spray. I did put good hardware in the bottom end though and open up the ring gap a bit, but stock pistons/rods/crank, OEM bearings etc. XE274, AFR small chamber heads as cast and a healthy Edelbrock fogger/direct port setup. Lots of chassis prep and suspension bits as well- the car itself had been in the 9.20s with a different combination but when the original engine grenaded I threw this together to play around for the remainder of that season.
I thought they stopped putting forged pistons after 86? I'm not trying to say you're wrong because you obviously owned these cars but that's what I've been told
Not sure why some are so doubtful about this. Back in the late 90s early 2000's there were a few of us that went well into the 9s (low 6s in the 1/8) with a stock bottom end with nitrous and supercharger. Obviously the ring gap wasn't stock most of the time and with the vortech I ran Gen 6 DFI and not carb but other than that it had factory pistons, rods and crank. Plus I did it with a manual transmission too. but hey no body believed us back then or had the balls to put their money on the bench to pull the motor to prove it. So why would it be any different today I guess. Shit with an AOD and the stock 235 tires I went 10.80s all day with nitrous back then at a track rental with Disomma before anyone knew who he was. I think I used more nitrous that day than everyone else together lol. If you can get a car to cover the first 300ft quick and clean. Your going to have a great ET. It's amazing how many people don't understand how important that is. It's hilarious in the comment section of Cleetus's channel with Leroy. Many think if it had the factory body on it would be quicker. They actually think aero is going to improve his 60ft to 330 time where the car needs the help most. I don't think they've even been 4.99 in the 8th yet and aero is simply not going to fix that. Getting the car to 60ft where it should will fix the problem. Anyway great video and love the car. Brought back so many fun memories from back in the day. Really makes me want to build another one actual. Stay safe bro and good luck next time out.
I've been saying the same thing about leroy all along. The car is cool but it would be so much faster if they focused on dialing in what they have. On the other hand, if you have unlimited funds, and a stable full of cars, I can see where throwing money at shit to go fast could be a lot of fun.
@@Foxbody_Guy you mean the video that most couldn't comprehend when it comes to drag racing ? Then yes. Unless you been fast. Most just don't understand how important that first 0 to 330 feet is especially the first 0 to 60 compared to say the last 300ft. ET is all front half. MPH is all backhalf. Drag racing 101.
Great comment, always good to listen to what works, regardless of when it was👍 building a vortech/nitrous combo now, just curious what your ring gap was? Stock bottom end w/HCI is what i’ve got but i’m good with pulling it apart as well 3.12 pulley+75 shot.
@@Boostedjasper while it was a stock bottom end. The ring gap was changed. Everyone has their theories but I never had a ring gap problem going back 20+ years. I've ran 250shot on the stock bottom end and factor ring gap too. The tune is very important also, as is the ring gap. If the tune is off. All the gap in the world won't save you but this is what I always found to work for me. Top ring with .0055 × bore size. So 4.00 bore × .055 would be .022 2nd ring .057 × bore size 4.00 ×.055 .022 Now depending on how much more boost you add and nitrous it goes up from their. Maybe .057 to .063 × the bore. If it's a mild set up .005 × the bore would be fine. That's .020 ring gap with a 4.00 Also remember if the block has been bored, you factor that into the equation. Also the more compression the motor has N/A. The more the ring gap. If the car isn't going to be driven on the street. Some will run more on the side of caution and run .002-.005 more gap. If you get new rings. Get the thinner rings with the spacers. The thinner ring can be worth about 10hp on a 600hp engine. They have less friction but still do the job just as good. Hope this helps and feel free to ask anything else. Good luck bro. If you build a motor. Don't be afraid of compression. It's only your enemy if you don't account for it. Otherwise it can be your best friend. It's been mine for decades. Thanks to a good friend of mine by the name of Disomma.

True stock bottom end? Stock displacement? Or is this a 306 with fully forget internals ?
What are the rules regarding stock bottom end 302 nitrous? I might be a contender in this race. Ive a 302 powered 1990 isuzu pup building it for 1/8th mile still a few months out before the build is ready to take out to the track to get dialed in. 18 point cage, 9" rear with spool 4.56 gears 4link, 28" tire, 4 speed auto, NX peremeter plate.
Luv when the horsepower just blows the taillights out.
Tire shake caused that.
Yeah that was the worst tire shake ive ever felt.
I’ve tried contacting them won’t respond
