I had to read the title three times until my brain fully processed the level of AWESOME these mere 4 words contained. I'd love for Squad to finally rework robotics, they are virtually useless to me. Too many glitches, way too many. Well, whatever, this SSRT is a true beauty! I love all the little tidbits and design choices.
Reminds me of NASA's Space Station Enterprise concept, where they planned to essentially put a whole load of station stuff in shuttle Enterprise and launch it. I think there might have been plans to use the External Tank as a wet workshop as well, though I'm not sure that was particularly fleshed out.
Casual viewers can't know what an achievement this is. Building a station with radiators and solar panels properly oriented is hard. Getting one robotic thing to work takes patience. Getting two robotics things to work is not recommended. For building a functional station with many robotic parts that is also SSRT and stable enough to land again.... there is no button for this.
Idea (it is stupidly overcomplicated). A couple of SSTOs bring parts up to orbit to build a rocket, the parts are docked together, reentered into Kerbin's atmosphere, landed, then the rocket you constructed then launches to the mun.
Thank you for the shoutout!!! You are a brave man for using so many robotic parts. I was waiting for the Kraken to visit your wings or truss full of solar panels!
You can use struts to hold together two parts on other ends of a robotic part (like your folding wings), and then disconnect them once you reach orbit and want to fold your wings up. Just right click on them while in flight and you get an option to sever the connection and allow the joints to freely move c:
T Eaux, seems like a Franch name (Eaux meaning waters) And T pronounced Té, with the the Eaux pronounced O is a funny way to tell his first name, Théo, I think. Good craft.
I was actually trying to do something similar on a much, much, much smaller scale last night, unfortunately pistons are so damned temperamental I've yet to get one to extend outside of the hanger. Getting the entire station/ssto transformation system to work is pretty impressive.
I liked the jump cut from you aggressively gliding straight down atop the runway on a wild slope to rolling short off the grass. Cool idea for the wings/ssto-station
I hope KSP2 gives us really good reasons for stations and bases, but anyway, again, great vid love the things you come up with that I try to improve on but fail. I still haven't made more BOX deployables for bases.
3:11 I've followed this exact same philosophy even when I used to upload vids. It's just easier for the viewer to follow along if there isn't a thousand mods they've gotta digest. The only mods I use are visual or utility; kerbal engineer, kerbal flight indicators, rcs build aid, hangar extender, etc.... But I keep all the physics and aero exactly the same so a pure vanilla client can still run that craft
Gebus I know I'm late to the party but I'm just getting back into KSP and considering doing a playthrough focusing on SSTOs so I've been watching your content. This may be the single most impressive thing I've ever seen done in KSP in terms of both the scale and execution. I mean, sure, whatever, single stage to Eve or whatever. But that's not _useful_ that's just a flex. This is actually incredibly useful. Fucking impressive, man.
VAOS, my man, you are a friggin’ LEGEND at this game. One day, you will be as known in the KSP community as Matt Lowne or Scott Manley, I’m sure of it.
Watching you fill and drain all these tanks in the editor to figure out CoM once again drove me to remind you of the mod RCS Build Aid, which gives you a dry CoM marker and some other mildly useful stuff. Seroiously it´s just a small and unintrusive mod check it out.
How do you still not have 20k subs. Soon my friend, soon. Awesome idea with the SSTOSP. You may wanna call it Optimus Prime or something, due to its transforming nature
You should make the SpaceX launch system where the boosters for the first stage detach with enough fuel left and automatically fly themselves back the the launch pad and land vertically by themselves so they can be reused.
Man, I remember being a part of your community station a few years ago. I put in those 4 science returns pods, don't you if you remember that, but those were fun. Eh, if you wanted to do it again you probably would've done so already, so I'm not gonna push or judge, but it was probably my second favorite series on your channel. Just short of that 10% science career mode storyline you were doing around the same time.
Love the videos Vaos, I'm so glad I found your channel because your stuff is so origional and different compared to many other ksp youtubers. Also I think the shoutouts are a really great idea, thanks for ending my week on a good note!
i usually like to use docking ports when using robotic parts in such a way that it docks to the port and use action groups to undock when i want to move it. i found that this greatly helps improving strength to things with robotic parts when in atmosphere or when under high acceleration. you could try that for the wings or the nose?
The strength is fine it’s the fact that they are not connected properly and therefore the game reads all the parts as if they are completely open to the elements. docking ports would sadly not work to remedy this.
I've been trying to recreate the ssto you used to dock with the spacestation in this video and I'm having trouble, could we possibly get a quick build video of it. I love it's look
it's a vehicle that turns into a home? time to make a few of them and park them in rows in orbit: then can have a kerb-neck (green-neck?) trailer park in space.
I hope they have rudimentary robotics programs in ksp2 to make robotics parts function cleaner. Right now if you want to assemble something using a robotic arm, good luck
Hey it's me again You gotta use less wings and front-rocket-drive relative to CoM, like a podracer, 3 columns and only one slightly offset to back, try it you'll know what ı mean tip: shift-move in hangar to make bigga offset gaps. I use 2 wing strakes with total 2.0 lift multiplier and one elevon at back and 2 canards at front. It's enough to lift 63tonnes of spaceplane with teny tiny landing wheels. yours I can lift with 6 big ass wing strakes
VAOS... I have a request: could you do a tutorial about how to do a space plane launched on a Rocket (reusable or not as you like) Cause I can't really work out how to make them fly properly and stable btw as always very interesting video 😊😄
Some mods that might help in the future when using the Breaking Ground DLC are Ferram Aerospace Research (FAR), Kerbal Joint Reinforcement Continued, and Recouple + Precise Editor. FAR makes crafts more realistic in terms of aerodynamics. Kerbal Joint Reinforcement makes things less wiggly. And Recouple can be used to link and unlink that are next to each other but are not connected according to the game and Precise Editor helps you lines things up perfectly.
Precise Editor is super useful for custom wings as well. If you have the mod installed, in the editor press, 'P' on a part and a menu will pop up showing its location and rotation, from there you can type in exactly where you want the part to be.
I mentioned FAR in the video. but most of those mods that you suggested actually change the game mechanics. And I’m trying to keep it stock as possible. 😎👍
@@vaos3712 What about mods like Precise Editor and Editor Extensions Redux which only affect the building of crafts? Or mods like BonVoyage or Mechjeb which adds a part but, the majority of the features are Hud/UI elements?
when it comes to mods that change the game mechanics then I have to respectfully decline. this is because a lot of subscribers try to build crafts that I make and if I used game changing mechanics they would not be able to get the same results. eventually I’ll be sharing these crafts online, so I need to keep it stock. I have an RSS/RO modded game and I have made videos of the SSRTs that I made in it. was thinking of doing a few videos of that in the future. 😎
new to this. I tried installing restock and it got rid of a lot of things. I only had 1 heat shield and most of my electrical and thermal pieces were gone. How do I fix this mod so it works?

The only craft made by VAOS that wasn't an SSTO was space stations, and now he turned the space station into an SSTO. Impossible.
