THE CHANNEL:
This channel is about Kerbal Space Program and can consist of SSTO building tutorials and rocket building tutorials. Some times the videos contain bad language and adult humor but on a low level. In these videos no planet is safe as we can explore space together by landing on places like Duna and Jool and build large Duna colonies or orbital space stations. Also, Interplanetary SSTO builds seem to be a hot topic in the KSP community so I will be touching on those as well. I also build SSRT space craft. These are fun to build and easy to fly! Warships or space warships are one of my favorite things to make. Stock weapons can be very challenging and so when building them over time , you get to see the evolution of the designs. Same thing with the Warships. They get better and better with each new design.
Now , I know it's considered cheating but Kraken drives are a fun way to put things like warp drive ( like in Star Trek ) and or hyper drives ( like in Star Wars ) in your Kerbal space program game. These game mechanic loopholes are fun to figure out as you find out how they work and how to incorporate them into your star ship design.
Everything from Outposts on far away moons and Mining Stations around asteroids and comets, you name it I've ether built it or it's on my to do list! I still haven't really explored things like building SpaceX starship or any of the NASA spacecraft, and I think that's because it been done to many times. Recreations of spacecraft can be found almost everywhere on TH-cam now and so making yet another one seem redundant. Only if the spacecraft recreation is of one that I loved as a kid will I even attempt to build it. Like the Apollo Moon Lander, or the whole Apollo rocket! Now that rocket was cool!
Many people have ask me if I'm ever going to wear my Mandalorian helmet ever again for my videos. And , yes. when the time is right, and I get a new wabcam, I will be dawning the helmet once more!

Best ksp TH-camr
If you're using KER, look at the torque value included with the full delta-V stats. That's how hard your engines at full throttle are trying to rotate the craft about the CoM. You can translate and rotate the engines to reduce the torque. Anything less then 1 is usually controllable, but aim for less then 0.1. doing it this way is more precise then just eyeballing the purple thrust vector. It also allows using less reaction wheels and less control surface deflection. This gives less dry mass, more delta v, and less drag.

An extra note about matching height of landing gear: The closer your landing gear are to the center of mass, the more weight they hold, the more their springs will compress. For my fighter designs, the main landing gear are always slightly lower than the front, because when physics are loaded, this makes them sit closer to level than they otherwise would be.
This probably matters a lot more for aircraft than spacecraft, but for a horizontally taking off spacecraft, it definitely makes a difference too.
if anyone makes a craft with the mk2 parts,there is also the inline mk2 Drone, SAS reaction wheel thingy, which is actually pretty powerful.

4:55 mmmh so the parachute with the node on the top (to attach on it the tower escape system) create more drag (without that system snapped on top)!?
Cuz I recently have done an airplane with a parachute on the nose cone and it work very well but if that parachute have more drag than a normal nose cone then I'm loosing a lot of potential of that craft (I haven't yet unlocked the small nosecones so I can't do test as for now)

Heyyy, so you could put nose cones behind the air-intake housing on those nacelles to remove more drag, and maybe tilt the wings up a lil for better lift, and how about dihedralling (totally a word) them a tad too for more stability in atmosphere. Anywayys, off to have breakfast.

This reminds me of a Cave Johnson phrase "Science isn't about why!, it's about why not!?" 😆 not entirely sure why we'd need a VTOL firetruck... But because we CAN build it we SHOULD!

I tried something similar, but my hinge didn't work well in symmetry mode. I had one hinge hinging while the other did not. Didn't fly well obviously. It would work temporarily, but if I moved something, one of my hinges stopped working.
Thanks for this video. I made mine a bit bigger (4 section shuttle cargo bay w/8 Rapiers on each wing). It's a bit touchy on the controls but took it to orbit and landed it. Over shot the runway a bit, about 1/4 of the planet, so I'm wondering when is a good time to retro-burn? I tried 90* prior that time so was planning to try about 170* or so. Do you have a ball park area that you use for retro-burn on a space plane? Also, how can I determine if I have enough wing? I could not maintain altitude without keeping the nose up so I'm thinking I need more wing sections but am running out of places to put engines. My TtW ratio is about 1.33/1 with an empty cargo bay.
When I'm aiming for the KSC I like to be in atmosphere by the desert to the west, if that helps. Re-entry takes a long time, it'll be a lot of trial and error before you get it right.
The rcs aid mod! Wow I have it installed and didn't even know what is that for, life saver for SSTO planes. (A friend of mine gave me the game and I installed all his mods with Ckan)

I never bothered with VTOLs too much but had made a Harrier AV-8A not long ago and man. I just love VTOL!
I definitely need to try a more SSTO VTOL for other bodies also. This has gave me a cool layout to start with 👍
Interplanetary VTOLs are hell: you can't get far with rapiers only, nukes are heavy and bulky, the tradeoff between TWR and dV doesn't allow to VTOL well in high gravity. Huge rotating engine nacelles with nukes and rapiers combined tend to wobble a lot. Grapes of engines each with it's own pivot look ugly and are hard to arrange around center of mass.

On Xbox so makes life even more of a challenge as is haha, but all in good fun... just got done with a Chinook. Trying to do more Kerbin Vehicles as I've been to and landed on every Planetary body bar Lathe and Tylo (and Jool ofcourse. Only brief entered atmo and have made orbit).
@@cluelessgod97 Laythe is the best place for SSTOs because rapiers work in airbreathing mode at even higher altitude than on Kerbin. I always use it as a base camp for all operations around Jool and did some spaceplane missions to Eeloo and Dres after refueling on Laythe.

I've been trying to design a colony for Laythe also and VAOS's prior video on the base idea with the big thermal protector had me inspired for a design...
I may do a unmanned base arrival and use a VTOL SSTO or if I struggle I'll have a VTOL in payload and attempt a manned landing with that to drop off crew and refuel and dock/return to Kerbin... I'm literally flooding with ideas right now haha.

For some misterious reason one of the hinges always wobble like shit, no matter if its copied or rebuilt by hand. Seems like a bug to me, actually. So, ugh... whats your game version exactly?

I followed the whole tutorial. The problem is that when I switch from vertical to horizontal, the hinges become super floppy. How do I fix this?
make an action group that locks the hinges after the switch. just spam it until ur sure their locked. then make an action group that unlocks them before you go vertical.
@@vaos3712 Tried that. I get an error message saying something like: cannot lock hinge while it is moving. It looks like the Rapier gimbal is messing it up? I tried disabling gimbal before locking, which didn't work. I also tried increasing damping and decreasing traverse rate. And I made it slightly different from your tutorial (main difference I used a drone core instead of the cargo bay thing).
@@therealdefoma Ya thats a common error message, best u can do is spam the lock action group key and hopefully it locks after a few time. Also the reason i put only the engine and two light weight aerodynamic parts on the hing is because those hinges are horrible with too much weight. So put as little as possible on them or the wobble will be real bad.

I'm not sure what I did wrong. When I go go to normal flight, my craft just wants to keep banking one way or the other. I feel like a victim of the kraken.

im not sure why but for me my robot parts do not want to go down, if I start with them in "vtol" mode, they snap back to flight mode, and even point upwards. i am playing modded, so I hope it isn't a mod issue. any ideas?

@@vaos3712 for something more in depth, vtol mode kinda didn't work on the right engine but I fixed that. Shuttle mode works fine but vtol mode flips it over. (I am unable to see dry mass)

Nice little thing, both aerodynamically and aesthetically. I'd like to see something like this but Mun or Duna - capable. All my medium range VTOL SSTOs tend to have terrible aerodynamics, even worse look and they can VTOL only on Duna or lesser celestials because only nuclear engines can rotate (I couldn't put all types of engines on hinges without too much wobbliness or ugliness)
why does for me (im building a vtol jet) and im using the same technice of engine placement like in a service bay/hinge combo and for some reason one of the two hinges will decide it doesnt want to work at all... IDK why it does this but it like makes the hinges not work/turn

You should check out and learn throttle controlled avionics and show it off. That and atmospheric auto pilot you can do amazing things in ksp

The engines don't have enough thrust in VTOL mode and when i try to take off normally, the engines start to swing and i crash.
