Hey Jesse in the late seventies I swapped from bass to drums and Steve was one of my greatest influences - analysed him every gig. This was pretty easy as I developed a bit of a friendship with the band in the mid seventies and am pretty sure I saw every gig they played in Melbourne and can remember when some had an audience that could be counted on two hands. Steve was a great guy and funny as. But also a very stylish drummer and a great songwriter. Also credit must always go to Phil as well as a rock and roll bass player -a freaking steam train
I've watched several reactions to this clip, and you are the only ones that seem to get it. Cold Chisel was never the band that shunned their fans. They walked the streets with them, they drank at the same pubs and bars, they partied with them after the show. Cold Chisel songs and performances are about normal everyday life in Australia [at the time] and about the struggle to get somewhere better while chained down in the 40hr working class. Jimmy has since described their shows as an opportunity to let go and not worry about everything for a while. This clip is part of Cold Chisel's Last Stand tour. They went on a long tour to farewell as they were breaking up and there is a concert video created from the last 4 nights in Sydney.
Everyone I know says Barnsey screams or yells. You are the only other person I know that understands vocal range and says that he is one of the greatest vocalists on the planet!
Just look at the fact this is towards the end of the concert. So he’s been singing like this all night and still is flawless power. Also, his drinking cup is probably full of vodka. He’d drink a bottle while on stage. He’s a legend. Also the nicest guy when you meet him. They say, Jimmy has travelled the long hard road of rock and roll and never left a fan behind.
You were truly amazed at this performance, but that was one song out of one concert out of one tour. Jimmy, Mossy, Steve, Phil and Don did this EVERY NIGHT for multiple nights in a row, amazing audiences all across Australia. Yes, we are blessed here in Australia to have grown up with Cold Chisel, AC/DC, INXS, the Angels, John Farnham etc etc, the list goes on.
Saw the concert for this tour in Townsville. We were always up the front near the stage for concerts & it was wild!.They were always amazing. I was in my teens through the late 70s & into the 80s & it was an incredible time for live music in Aus. I moved to Sydney & the live music scene in the pubs was unbelievably good. We were so damn lucky.

He had some of his best performances while under the influence and sadly in many cases can’t even remember the concert. He is a freak of nature. The best! So many great memories of Jimmy Barnes growing up. He’s the man!
Love this! And what you’re doing for Australian music by showing everyone how great it is and WHY it’s great. After over a year and a half of lockdowns the live music scene is on it’s knees and so many of our artists are dependent on live performance for their bread and butter. One reason why they’re great is live performance. These guys are our legends, but there’s a whole new generation of musicians that need to be heard more widely so people get behind them and support them. I’m going to send you some more contemporary suggestions. And no, Wild thing is not Cold Chisel’s song but this is way the best cover version ever!!!!!!
I think JF was a pop singer in the first part of his career in the 60's & 70's.......then he became the voice.....but yeah, Jimmy is the sound of grind
The guitarist is Ian Moss. Both him and Jimmy share lead vocal duties in Cold Chisel. Moss like Barnes went on to have some solo chart success with some very nice pop / rock tunes in the mid - late 80s. The Cold Chisel song pile of awesomeness is A MUST. and you haven't yet gotten into their most well known and loved tunes yet.
I wouldn't say they share lead vocalist duties....Jimmy is definitely the lead vocalist. Ian Moss has such an amazing voice that totally compliments Jimmy's singing...and enhances each song.......all through the brilliance of Don Walker's music writing (although each band member also wrote their share of great songs). Best band ever is Cold Chisel
@@Ulbre true but Moss does take the lead role in a duet fashion several chisel songs that i know of - Saturday Night / Bow river / My Baby / When the war is over.
Hey Nick! The guitarist in Cold Chisel is Ian Moss. I think you might have reacted to a version of Georgia that he does. His voice is so smooth and the perfect contrast to Jimmy's power. Cold Chisel were the best Australian band in my opinion. RIP Steve Prestwich (the drummer)...
Hi from New Zealand. I totally agree with you about Jimmy's voice, he is in total control of his voice then and now. I've been listening to Chisel and jimmy for over 30 years, and I have gotten many friends and family to become fans too. 👍

I have mentioned this concert in comments on other videos you have reacted to. Last stand. Brilliant! The cover of Georgia at this concert is one of the greatest things you will ever hear!
I always think and this is my personal opinion, that although AC DC is Australia's biggest band, Cold Chisel is probably the best band Australia as had. They have a line up that could play all different styles of music, soul, gospel, ballads rock and roll, blues, whatever. I could never see AC DC singing river deep mountain high. Chisel had the versatilty. They can perform everything
Wild thing was originally sung by The Troggs back in 1966 Jimmy back in the day would go through a 2 bottle of Vodka a day thank god he survived it would have been a great loss he survived one heart attack peace out.
His sweat would fly but that’s why we loved him plus he could sing his ass off . Honestly cold chisel people, either loved or hated them. The songs have a lot of meanings most are our youth on record . Love it thanks xoxo

He came on at around 9/10 pm but I have to say it was worth the wait. He was absolutely amazing. 💕❤️🔥
A few more great Cold Chisel songs for you to check out: Flame Trees, Choir Girl, Cheap Wine, Four Walls (a ballad), One Long Day (off the Swingshift album, which is live), Standing on the Outside, Breakfast at Sweethearts, Forever Now, Just how many times (a ballad), Tomorrow, Taipan, i could go on and on. They really don't have any bad songs. Don Walker (the piano player) is such a great songwriter and the rest of the band all dabbled in songwriting too. Flame Trees is probably their best song...well Jimmy thinks so anyway. Saw an interview recently and he didn't hesitate in naming Flame Trees. Loving your reactions.
Loving your reactions! Jimmy Barnes is my favourite vocalist. He should be as big as Bruce Springsteen. But, for what ever reason he has never got the international recognition he deserves. You should check out Cold Chisel Choir Girl.
Nick… NOW that’s what you call a BAND!! Unbelievable musicians, shout out to Ian Moss and co and well … Jimmy !! Think the audience got their value for money!! Keep up the great work!! 🇦🇺🇦🇺🙏🙏👍👍
I’ve been a fan of Jimmy Barnes since 79… we used to call him and Barnsie the “screamers”…we knew nothing about squalls, or runs etc…we didn’t have the knowledge needed to identify what they were, but we were at every concert we could get to…love💖💖💖
The fact that he can do that by sitting is impressive enough for me Nick - I've seen Cold Chisel live many many times and still to this day, out of all that I have seen, they are one of my number one favourite live bands....the guitarist is Ian Moss... you've reacted to him before... he is also an extremely good vocalist.
Hey Jo, About 40 years ago i met the woman whom the 'Cheap Wine' song written about her : "... I had a friend, I heard she died, on the needle she was crucified ..." She was a reformed heroin junkie, and was then a roadie for Chisel in the Adelaide days. We first met at Rob's motor bike repair shop, then in Glenhuntly Road, Caulfield South.
@@alanriley9754 Hey Alan - so many awesome memories and stories come from our music history - sad that some of the lyrics are about tragedies, but that's where a lot of them came from isn't it .... my brothers band toured SA with Chisel back in the day (from Perth)... lots of fabulous memories and catchups when they came here to play. Stay safe !
Jimmy really was a wild boy back then, bloody awesome. He has written about what he was going through personally back then in his very candid autobiographies.
They always played this song as an encore at the end of the show. Jimmy was always so drunk by the end he could hardly stand up (just like he is here) but his vocals were always on point.
"Wild Thing" is a song written by American songwriter Chip Taylor and popularized by the English rock band The Troggs. It was originally recorded and released by the American rock band The Wild Ones in 1965, but it did not chart.
Wild Thing was a 60s song by British brand The Troggs. Their version was quite 'hippie', as you'd expect from that era - but Jimmy and Chisel take it in a different direction in this clip!
i'm glad you reacted to this video this is CC and Jimmy at their best and last concert before their break up of course they reformed years later jimmy well into his 2nd bottle of vodka by the time he sung this song
and that was a VB in his hand....................was at that concert...................and he walked around with either a vodka bottle or can of beer the whole time and never lost a beat or sang a bum note despite being two vodka bottles in.
checkout Ian Moss the last stand tour 1983 with his solo version of Hoagy Carmichael's 'Georgia' his stratocaster and voice are sublime These were the days when jimmy used to drink a bottle or two of vodka each performance
As an Aussie who grew up on the chisels and saw jimmy go solo, seeing him live was mesmerizing. He’d chug an actual crate of vodka on stage but retain that V12 voice. His vocal power was incomparable, possibly;t close to guns and roses at his best but jimmy still has it now. AC/DC would be close too
Thank you so much for reacting to my request. A brief history, in 1983 cold chisel decided to disband and they wanted to go out in style , they did a massive tour of Australia and basically performed every gig like it was their last. Towards the end of the massive tour jimmy’s voice was cooked and was coughing up blood, they had a rest and came back in December to do the sell out shows in Sydney. The guitarist is ian moss , you reacted to his performance of Georgia a while ago. Regards Darren Ps the little scuffle in the crowd was just a security guard, jimmy was a nightmare for them because they never knew when he would bolt off into the crowd 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@ThatSingerReactions vocal strain I think. I personally think he sounds great in the video but you can tell his voice is different compared to earlier performances. Check out cold chisel live at rockpalast which was earlier on in 1983 , he sounds amazing.
You saying everyone loves Jimmy Barnes, reminded me of a video shown on a video special tv program quite a few years ago! A small girl child was signing and dancing along to a Jimmy Barnes clip, and her mother turned it off early! She would not stop crying her bottom lip dropped to her chin and she said pitifully, "Jimmy Barnes"! Her mother tried other music but she wouldn't stop until she heard Jimmy's voice again! Yes, we love him! Have you heard him doing "Ain't no Mountain High Enough"!?? Wow! 👍🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for saying that this is not screaming. I'm also sick of people saying that Jimmy screams, he's just a great singer! I wish you'd react to Choir Girl and/or Cheap Wine to hear a very much younger Jimmy.
I hope someday you get a chance to meet jimmy and the family here in Australia 🇦🇺 That would be super cool and I’m sure your nearly 100k subscribers would love it as well. Keep up the great reactions 👍
This performance is from the Last Stand live album, recorded during Cold Chisel's final performances (in the 80s). They later reformed in the 21st century. Wild stuff. So good.
Hahahaha Jimmy still kills it, this was in the days where he was drinking a bottle of vodka on stage and other drugs but still sounds amazing! He was working through his traumatic upbringing in those days. He had an absolutely horrendous childhood ❤️
The guy grabbing Jimmy was from security... which is why Jimmy was telling him to fuck off! I worked as a stage sound ( foldback) technician in my younger days... had lots of singers wanting me to make them sound good to themselves. I always told them that I can't make them sound good, I only can make hear, to themselves how they actually are singing. I refused to ever use "effects" on stage monitors. I fucking love your descriptions of what it is to sing, and to have the ability to do it well. Cheers Bro.
As an Aussie someone really needs to ask for The Angels live doing Am I ever gonna see your face again? Apparently when they did it in the middle east USA troops were shocked at the audience participation of the diggers. Bugger it I'll do it. The Angels are classic Oz rock. Sprained my ankle to Take A Long Line
I watch music reaction videos like yours (and other singers) do deepen my appreciation of music (of all 'genres'). Listening to credible people with knowledge of a subject that I know little about does NOT make me an expert does does broaden and deepen my appreciation of those things. Keep on sharing your knowledge, and giving your opinions, to help the musically ungifted such as myself enjoy the astonishing talents of musicians!!!
If jimmies singing there's going to be a long vid with plenty reactions....love it. Jimmy sings like that for hours and hours...then night after night if I tried one song I wouldn't be able to speak for two days. A good oz band is hunters and collecters a good song is "throw your arms" pearl jam and Eddie were a big fan of these guys.
Yeah good; love Jimmy and Chisel, but have you checked out "The Goodies" version??? LOL (from an Aussie) There's no need to worry about Jimmy blowing his voice out (his heart took a bit of a battering with the lifestyle), but he's still standing. I'm so glad I got to see early Chisel in pub days. Guitarist is Ian Moss
Can I say Thank you for bringing Australian talent to the world. I know there is so much talent world wide but it's nice to see these hard working Aussies have their greatness showcased to the rest of the world. Thank you so much. And it's only the tip of the iceberg. ✌
the fact that jimmy was usually already drunk on hard liquor before he even got on stage at this particular period of his life and was still pitch perfect every single time is a testament to his skill and natural talent and puts him in yet another league of his own. i’ve never seen anyone else who can do that
That’d be like comparing apples and oranges. When they duet they definitely complement one another. Both JB and JF are absolute legends in their own right.😁🇦🇺👍🏼
I’m spoiled rotten! Seen him live like this so many times, back in the day, like way back. My friends and I were drinking the same energy drink as Jimmy was here in Adelaide, it was awesome, seriously.it would get rough sometimes. Love it !!🙆♂️
Hi Mate, Barnsey was what rock music was all about in Australia early 80s. Another vocolust to look at was Johnny O'Keeffe. Circa 55 to to 76. Good onya for paying this attention to Australian rock music.
Just a normal Saturday night jammin' for Aussie musicians back in the day. No big Arena's just the best pub scene & intimate concert halls that we will never see again. Makes me so sad that times have changed all this. Once upon a time this was the hard yakka of ever making a name for yourself in music, without the internet, digital streaming & social media. In a way the true heart that was captured back in those intimate sessions are permanently lost.
Thanks for looking outside the US at true talent. I’m not sure how old you are, but “Wild Thing” is a pretty well known song, first a hit for The Troggs. Chisel regularly closed shows with it. Mossy was and is a terrific singer and guitarist. RIP Steve Prestwich.
The song Wild Thing is a story in itself. Written by Country singer chip Taylor whose real name was James Vought. He is actor Jon Voights bother and Angela Jolies uncle. His other massive hit was country song angel of the morning. He also wrote songs covered by the Hollie’s and Linda Rondstat amongst others. Taylor has one of the most interesting back stories in music. He started as a pro golfer like his father but got injured so decided to be a country singer. After writing and recording a number of albums he got bored and quit. During that time has was asked to write a rock song so wrote wild thing. In around 15 minutes. After giving up music he became a professional gambler but says he got too good he was banned from every casino on the west coast. After that he took up gambling on horse racing and got so good he found a job as one of the US best racing handicappers. When his mother got sick she asked him to sing to her and once again took up music.he has recorded a number of albums including one all about golf. His album with band the new Ukrainians is very good and worth tracking down.

Stay safe !
@@alanriley9754 yeah another phenomenal roadie for Chisels was my uncle Gerry Georgettis who sadly passed away RIP
Just saw Keith urban playing with Jimmy from 6 years ago and you can tell Keith is just blown away as soon as Jimmy kicks in.
Guitarist Ian Moss did an awesome cover of Georgia at the same concert.
Growing up with Cold Chisel and a plethora of Aussie rock was a blast!
(Original version - Wild Thing - The Troggs - 1966)
Cheers from Oz.
"Wild Thing" is a song written by American songwriter Chip Taylor and popularized by the English rock band The Troggs. It was originally recorded and released by the American rock band The Wild Ones in 1965, but it did not chart.
Wild Thing was a 60s song by British brand The Troggs. Their version was quite 'hippie', as you'd expect from that era - but Jimmy and Chisel take it in a different direction in this clip!
i'm glad you reacted to this video this is CC and Jimmy at their best and last concert before their break up of course they reformed years later
jimmy well into his 2nd bottle of vodka by the time he sung this song
and that was a VB in his hand....................was at that concert...................and he walked around with either a vodka bottle or can of beer the whole time and never lost a beat or sang a bum note despite being two vodka bottles in.
@@bigs1546 not to mention the ummm other consumables he had before hand
checkout Ian Moss the last stand tour 1983 with his solo version of Hoagy Carmichael's 'Georgia' his stratocaster and voice are sublime These were the days when jimmy used to drink a bottle or two of vodka each performance
AC/DC would be close too
ACDC were my number one band.....no band could ever take over......until Chisel did........acca dacca still the second best ever though
Regards
Darren
Ps the little scuffle in the crowd was just a security guard, jimmy was a nightmare for them because they never knew when he would bolt off into the crowd 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Was it vocal strain from singing in such a high caliber vocally for so long or because he was growling to much?
Wow! 👍🥰🥰🥰
You were impressed with Jimmy solo, Cold Chisel takes it to an entirely different level…
Oh and also that’s the security pulling him, trying to get him under control lol
Love this! Mossy was brilliant . One of Australia’s greatest guitarists. Jimmy was pretty pissed here 😂
Thank you for saying that this is not screaming. I'm also sick of people saying that Jimmy screams, he's just a great singer! I wish you'd react to Choir Girl and/or Cheap Wine to hear a very much younger Jimmy.
I hope someday you get a chance to meet jimmy and the family here in Australia 🇦🇺
That would be super cool and I’m sure your nearly 100k subscribers would love it as well.
Thank you for explaining Jimmy's vocal style!! I love that voice ❤
Your reactions are great the way you explain his voice gives a better appreciation of Jimmy
That Guitarist is Ian Moss. Great player and great vocalist. Had a few hits solo in Australia. Fantastic live act.
The good old days of Australian Rock… 😎👌🇦🇺
The guy grabbing Jimmy was from security... which is why Jimmy was telling him to fuck off! I worked as a stage sound ( foldback) technician in my younger days... had lots of singers wanting me to make them sound good to themselves. I always told them that I can't make them sound good, I only can make hear, to themselves how they actually are singing. I refused to ever use "effects" on stage monitors. I fucking love your descriptions of what it is to sing, and to have the ability to do it well. Cheers Bro.
Wild thing is by the Troggs...I used to dance to it in the 60s
Australia in the early 80’s…everything was a fight!! 😂
Just to throw it in there....Jimmy by this stage of the performance is completely pissed. Makes the performance even more incredible.
As an Aussie someone really needs to ask for The Angels live doing
Am I ever gonna see your face again?
Apparently when they did it in the middle east USA troops were shocked at the audience participation of the diggers.
Bugger it I'll do it. The Angels are classic Oz rock. Sprained my ankle to Take A Long Line
Absolutely
He’s done a reaction to the Angels I think already.
Flame trees stops me every time, I’ve heard it more than a thousand times easy. Never gets old.
Guitarist is Ian Moss. He and barnsey both led cold chisel. A fabulous vouce and his guitar sound was pure cold chisel
It was pub rock. Jimmy was usually off his head. Fans loved it when he jumped in. Always 💕
I have never seen this footage so I was reacting with you, amazing!!!!!
FACTS! ❤. Thank you.
Jimmy... rock.. and.. roll.. legend
Can I say Thank you for bringing Australian talent to the world. I know there is so much talent world wide but it's nice to see these hard working Aussies have their greatness showcased to the rest of the world. Thank you so much. And it's only the tip of the iceberg. ✌
I was there. Amazing. Miss those days
"who is that guy"? that is Ian Moss...you reacted to him doing an acoustic crazy version of Georgia
Live version of Georgia by Mossy at the concert even better than acoustic version.

@@shaundgb7367 I just watched it...just amazing thanks for the recommendation 👌
the fact that jimmy was usually already drunk on hard liquor before he even got on stage at this particular period of his life and was still pitch perfect every single time is a testament to his skill and natural talent and puts him in yet another league of his own. i’ve never seen anyone else who can do that
Right? Totally agree, just astounding
Truly awesome, as John Farnham says he doesn't complete with other Australian performers such as Jimmy Barnes. ❤❤❤
John’s being humble as he is. Of course he compete’s with them! They do different things, but they’re on the same level!
Good onya for paying this attention to Australian rock music.
i am enjoying your journey down the rabbit hole
Just a normal Saturday night jammin' for Aussie musicians back in the day. No big Arena's just the best pub scene & intimate concert halls that we will never see again. Makes me so sad that times have changed all this. Once upon a time this was the hard yakka of ever making a name for yourself in music, without the internet, digital streaming & social media. In a way the true heart that was captured back in those intimate sessions are permanently lost.
Hi mate, defo a cover of the Troggs. Its a tradition for Aussie bands to do a cover or two, especially the final song playing live. Great channel.
The guy playing bass is Ian Moss, he released an album called Tuckers Daughter :)
Respect from Barnsey....🤘🎉🤠🔥🍻. Love your work mate!
Thank you :)
I love you mate Jimmy is a legend.
