I just saw Crowded House supported by Teskey Brothers supported by Julia Stone in November. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G night in a park in Canberra, in Canberra! And Nick Cave in the same month.
No one would have ever thought a harmonica could be a main instrument. Except for “Blowing in the Wind”😊. This is right up there, but in a different sort of way. Billy Joel also used it effectively in “Piano Man”. It’s an underrated instrument. It sort of reminds me of the use of the flute in “Land Down Under”. Obscure instruments getting some recognition over the vocalists.

Miss the days when Jimmy was performing at the Hallam Pub every second month. Think I even got him and Rose Tattoo back to back nights once. Might have even been the same gig. That whole nights a blur beside Jimmy tbh
Those were the best times , we were all spoiled rotten with choices on who to go and see every weekend.l remember seeing the Oils , Cold Chisel and the Angels together on the one night at the Family for $6.The line went for about half a k to get in and when we got to the door l heard one of the bouncers say we are only licensed for 250 and there is already over 700 in there.The first band l saw was Mi Sex ,1978 then LRB, Dragon ,Sunnyboys ,Radiators ,Ozzie Crawl ,Hoodoos ,Inxs etc.
Cold Chisel is arguably the greatest rock band Australia has ever produced. AC/DC get the sales and the stadiums, Cold Chisel owns just as many hearts in this country.
I was 15 yrs old when I snuck into a pub in Melbourne Australia to watch Cold Chisel live. That was 40 yrs ago now. They blew my tiny little mind and I became totally addicted to live music. These guys are friggin' awesome live.
I did say the other day that the harmonica player alone, would blow your Sox off. The Bow is as you pronounced it and yes, this is waaaay up there in terms of being a brilliant live performance. 😊
Cold Chisel is the heart of Australia. They were at every BBQ, bday party, celebration, pubs, clubs and everything in-between. I'm absolutely privileged to have grown up listening to Chisel & I've met Jimmy Barnes - beautiful man. Thanks for the video, triple thumbs up for the appreciation of our amazing band
I’d call it ear candy. Loved your enthusiasm for our beloved Cold Chisel with Jimmy (Barnsey) on vocals at the very beginning of this song, and Ian (Mossy) on vocals and guitar. I agree that David Blight’s contribution on harmonica provides that extra brilliance that takes the performance to an extra level. No holding back though for the other band members, Steve Prestwich (RIP) on drums, Phil Small on guitar, and Don Walker on piano. All of which are Stella writers and musicians. They really know how to perform live.

I never understood how the world didn’t embrace Cold Chisel. I was fortunate to see them play an impromptu tour warm up gig at Parra Leagues Club, it was either 80 or early 81. It wasn’t advertised. There were no lights. Just the band and about a half full auditorium as the only ones who knew were those in the club that night, or people who’d heard through word of mouth that day. I worked there and was picking up my pay when an announcement was made on the club’s PA system. I immediately rang a mate off a pay phone (of course it was pre mobile phones. What I witnessed was two hours of music and chaos beyond description. All of their songs up to the Circus Animals album, covers. Jimmy Barnes leaping off the stage and running along the tables that were still there from Bingo and kicking all the glasses, bottles and beer jugs out of his way, then jumping into the middle of the crowd - all this with the old cord mic and the roadies trying to keep the cord intact. He smashed into the shoulder of my mate on his way back to the stage. What a night!

I’ll second the motion for Cold Chisel’s live version of Wild Thing. One of the great unknown (outside Australia and New Zealand) live performances of all time.
If you want to see one of the best live performances ever check out Cold Chisels Wild Thing from their Last Stand, mindblowing. Another unique live performance is Country singer Kasey Chambers covering Eminem’s Lose Yourself playing the banjo would you believe. I’ve never seen anything like it, and it sits in my opinion up there with the original.

Yeah! The band is pretty good, but the Harmonica bloke isn’t just another Harmonica player - he’s mastered it. He really stands out with that feel and skill he has.
Yeah True ay. Cold Chisel are alright have about 5 songs that I like and that’s about it- Saturday Night and Flame Trees, are the next best 2 imo. INXS and 70’s AC⚡️DC I prefer, check out AC⚡️DC - RiFF RAFF (official Video) and you’ll see the hardest Rock n Roll band in their prime.
Interesting fact for you. Bow River is down from Kununurra in North Western Australia. Hubby use to work on a mine site not far from Bow River. They gave up replacing the sign as it kept getting knicked lol Flows into one of the biggest rivers and catchment, Lake Argyle. One of two places in the world to get very rare pink diamonds. Argyle has now closed and if you invested in pinks 20 years ago your doing well.
David Blight on harmonica is a legend. He played a lot live with Cold Chisel. A brilliant band...a unique sounding front man who is a great live performer, an awesome lead guitarist who would be lead vocal in any other band, one of Australia's greatest songwriter's on piano, and a rhythm section who held them together and were songwriters themselves. Keep checking their catalogue...its extensive and they don't really have any bad songs, with a couple of good covers thrown in. Oh, have you watched their version of Wild Thing from off the Last Stand tour? If not, i'm telling you that it too will be in your top ten live performances.
As a 55yr old aussie that has seen chisels more than once in small clubs I love love love the power of the internet and how so many Americans are just now discovering these Aussie icons.

So lucky to have been in my late teens and early twenties during the late 1980s and living through the pub scene in Melbourne. You haven't lived until you've seen the likes of Cold Chisel, INXS, etc in a smokey pub, pot of beer in one hand and a ciggie in the other. If only we realised then how good life was compared to what was coming down the pike.

As a 55yr old aussie that has seen chisels more than once in small clubs I love love love the power of the internet and how so many Americans are just now discovering these Aussie icons.

Cold Chisel was so good. Barnsey (Jimmy Barnes) was a wild man back then.😅 Ian Moss (Mossy) also does a great version of Georgia. Looking forward to your nest reaction.👍

So lucky to have been in my late teens and early twenties during the late 1980s and living through the pub scene in Melbourne.
You haven't lived until you've seen the likes of Cold Chisel, INXS, etc in a smokey pub, pot of beer in one hand and a ciggie in the other.
If only we realised then how good life was compared to what was coming down the pike.
